The Most Affordable Ways to Fence in a Yard

Practical and Attractive Borders

1/19

A fence that keeps out nosy neighbors and possible intruders can also boost your home’s curb appeal without breaking the bank. While fencing materials such as aluminum ($45 to $65 per linear foot installed) and vinyl ($27 to $47 per linear foot installed) are decidedly pricey, you can install a front yard or backyard fence far more frugally.

The following fencing options are relatively affordable, particularly compared to the cost of vinyl and aluminum. Some of these options are purely utilitarian and others, primarily decorative, but you’re sure to find a fence that suits your tastes and your budget.

Treated Pine

2/19

Pinewood panels that are chemically or pressure treated to resist rot and pests, installed in a non-breaking vertical or horizontal orientation, are available for far less than naturally rot-resistant lumbers such as cedar or redwood.

Because treated wood tends to twist or warp post-install, handpick fence panels from your lumberyard to ensure that they aren’t green or damp, signs that the wood will easily move out of place once in the ground.

Cost: $14 to $20 per linear foot installed

Chain Link

3/19

Chain link, comprising thick steel wires bent and hooked together, is often the best option for a small budget and a large yard. While the 2- to 3-inch spaces between the wires mean less privacy than a solid fence, chain-link fences effectively keep pets in and intruders out.

While chain link isn’t especially attractive, you can improve its appearance by planting a fast-growing vine such as ivy directly behind it and letting it cover the fence. Painting it with an oil-based exterior paint in a pleasing neutral or earth tone, like forest green, can also transform the look of the chain link.

Cost: $17 to $20 per linear foot installed

Full Trellis

4/19

Using a trellis as the panels in a fence can create a charming backdrop for a yard. Whether painted bright white, stained and sealed a rich chocolate hue, or covered in vines from the garden, a trellis allows some light to filter through and creates interesting shadows in the yard. Price will vary based on the material and strength.

Trellises—especially at the lower end—are not as sturdy as other fencing, so don’t expect them to corral dogs or keep predators out. They can, however, add visual appeal and privacy where you need it.

Cost: $3.50 to $7 per linear foot

istockphoto.com

Barbed Wire

5/19

When you’ve got livestock to rein in and fierce roaming predators like wolves and coyotes to keep out, it’s hard to beat this low-cost option. Three to five strands ( tiers) of barbed wire are stretched horizontally between metal posts around the property line, with wood or metal posts installed at corners to hold the wire up. Note that barbed wire fences are only permitted in rural areas, so check local codes before using this material.

Cost: $1.50 to $2 per linear foot

istockphoto.com

Hog Wire

6/19

Budget-conscious homeowners may appreciate this dirt-cheap material used to fence in small animals or mark property boundaries. Rigid metal wire is usually strung in a grid-like pattern over a series of large wooden frames. There’s minimal wood incorporated in this type of fencing, which may allow you to splurge on a high-end species like redwood for a more attractive look.

Cost: $3 to $5 per linear foot

Electric Fencing

7/19

Electric fencing to deter animal and human intruders is popular with homeowners for its low cost and simple setup: a transmitter, receiver, and multiple wire strands strung between vertical wooden posts. These security fences deliver a high-voltage pulse when the wire is breached, so they are usually only allowed in rural areas and must be kept clear of roads and highways.

Cost: $2.40 to $7 per linear foot

Pallet Fencing

8/19

Want a wood fence but don’t want to pay for it? DIY a fence from pallets you can pick up gratis at nurseries, construction sites, and other venues. Pallets can be installed either vertically or horizontally between vertical pallet posts, either with or without space between. Though you can usually get the pallets free, keep in mind there are costs associated with fasteners and other installation supplies.

Make sure any pallets you score bear the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) logo, which certifies they were heat-treated or fumigated to prevent the spread of insects or plant diseases. Also know that pallets can contain splinters and nails—handle with care.

Split Rail

9/19

Traditionally used on farms and ranches to corral animals or mark property boundaries, the split-rail fence has made the leap to ranch and Southwestern-style homes and beyond. Timber logs, usually cedar or chestnut, are split lengthwise into “rails” and then stacked horizontally between short or tall vertically oriented posts. Because there are 8 to 10 inches of space between individual rails, this fencing uses less material than solid varieties, and thus costs considerably less.

Cost: $12 to $30 per linear foot

Picket

10/19

An enduring symbol of the American Dream, the picket fence is also among the best affordable fence ideas for bringing privacy to the yard, thanks to vertical fence pickets spaced 1 to 3 inches apart that are attached to top and bottom horizontal rails. A range of decorative picket styles, including pointed and round, also boost the curb appeal of a Colonial, Craftsman, Cape Cod, or Georgian home.

Cost: $17 to $25 per linear foot installed

Dog Ear

11/19

In this modern twist on the picket fence, ideal for Colonial Revival homes, the top of each individual section of fencing takes an inverted curve shape. The fence panels in a dog-ear fence may all be of shorter lengths than the fence posts, adding more visual variety. But more complex wood cuts are needed to achieve fence panels of different heights, hence a higher price than traditional pickets.

Cost: $16 to $21 per linear foot installed

Lattice Top

12/19

This unexpected tweak on a solid wood fence is well suited for Queen Anne or Country French homes. A frame of thin slats, made of wood or metal in a crisscross pattern, is installed on top of a shorter, solid wood fence to let in sunlight and maintain a view to the outdoors while preventing unwanted attention from passersby. Even better? The lattice doubles as a trellis for nearby climbing vines.

Privet

13/19

Green thumbs appreciate living privacy “fences,” most commonly made of privet hedges. Depending on the privet species (there are more than 50), the semi-evergreen shrubs grow tall, from 4 to 10 feet or more. They can be planted around the entire yard or only a small expanse, and then pruned and sculpted to suit your taste.

Spotted Laurel

14/19

These hardy, bushy plants with green leaves and yellow or brown markings can survive air pollution and salt-bearing winds alike, which is why they are popular in places with suboptimal air quality, as well as near the coast. Also known as Aucuba japonica, laurels reach 6 to 10 feet tall at maturity, ideal for backyard privacy with a burst of color.

Cost: $8 to $9 per linear foot

Bamboo

15/19

These tall and striking plants in the grass family around the perimeter of your property look great with Tropical Modern or California Bungalow homes. Bamboo reaches 10 to 50 feet or higher to boost outdoor shade and comfort. Keep in mind that the more invasive “running” variety of bamboo spreads fast and far, potentially overtaking the land, so stick to the clumping variety that grows in small mounds. Bonus: Bamboo repels deer, so your new fence won’t be food for 4-legged neighbors!

Cost: $3 to $6 per linear foot

Yew

16/19

This dense, dark, hardy evergreen is a smart choice for a living fence in cloudy and sunny climates alike. Yew grows slowly, however, usually taking years to reach a mature hedge height of from 4 to 20 feet or taller, depending on the variety.

Cost: $6 to $7 per linear foot

Corrugated Metal

17/19

If total privacy is the goal, and your design style of choice is industrial, a corrugated metal fence may be ideal for your needs. Galvanized sheets of corrugated metal are lighter in weight per square foot than many other fence materials, and the material can resist mold and rust. Some DIYers even choose to upcycle old metal.

Cost: $10 and up per linear foot

istockphoto.com

Potted Plants

18/19

For those who don’t need privacy or a secure perimeter to contain pets or little ones, a row of potted plants or potted trees can make a visually striking and interesting border to a yard. While the plantings can be anything that enjoys the local climate, inexpensive options for pots can include simple DIY-made boxes, upcycled pallets, or crates.

Cost: $25 and up per linear foot

Garden Wall

19/19

Rather than using wood or metal to partition your property, consider growing a garden wall. Instead of the traditional hedge, create a functional vine-filled vegetable garden of cucumbers, pole beans, or pumpkin. Vertical gardens are popular because you can grow plants up instead of out, saving space and water if designed well. The garden’s bounty can provide some extra privacy to a hog wire, lattice, or chain-link fence and make a delicious addition to the dinner table, too.

Cost: $15 and up per linear foot

What to Look for in a Professional Fencing Company

Fence installation is a common DIY home improvement project because a fence can be relatively simple to plan and build. However, there’s no shame in hiring out the project, especially if it’s a very long fence. If you hire a pro, they take care of purchasing materials and having them delivered, digging holes in what may be rocky ground and making sure the fence conforms to local setback and design codes and restrictions.

There are many national, regional and local fencing installation companies across the U.S. If you decide to hire pros to install a fence, utilize online customer reviews, and ask friends and family if they have recommendations. It’s a big project, so take your time deciding who to hire. Whenever possible, get more than one bid so you can compare your options. Here’s a list of the most important things to consider when vetting fencing companies:

  • Look for a specialist: General contractors can build fences, but if they don’t specialize, they may not be helpful with fence design, and then that falls on you. If you’re already settled on the fence material and design, a general contractor may be able to offer a fair price for installation, but a contractor who does only fencing will likely have better access to wholesale materials and be able to offer a better price.
  • Check credentials: Any contractor you hire for a home improvement project should be licensed and insured. Otherwise, you aren’t covered for problems that crop up, such as defects in workmanship, onsite accidents and substandard materials. Some states, such as California, require extra accreditation for fencing contractors, and many fencing specialists hold Certified Fence Contractor (CFC) accreditation from the Accreditation & Certification Institute (a national organization). CFC accreditation is largely voluntary and is an indication that the contractor who holds it is serious about quality.
  • Compare quotes: Some contractors charge by the linear foot and others by the hour, but most will quote a fixed price based on the length of the fence as well as the design and materials. These quotes are likely to vary from contractor to contractor, so be sure to get more than one bid for comparison. Get signed copies of estimates so when you choose one, you have documentation of the agreed upon cost if there are overcharges when problems arise. Don’t forget to ask about warranties and warranty periods, because they can also differ greatly.
  • Get references: Any reputable fencing contractor will happily give you local references. Follow up as many as you can. That’s the best way to find out whether the contractor works in a timely way and delivers as promised. You can also make inquiries about contractors on media apps like NextDoor and Facebook groups, where you’re likely to find people more responsive, given that people these days seldom answer their phone if they don’t recognize the number. It’s also worth a look at fences the contractor has built to get an idea of the quality you can expect.
  • Check the company history: A fencing contractor with a good track record over several years is a better bet than one who is just starting out. You might have to pay a little more for experience and a good reputation, but it’s almost always worth it.

If your search for a fencing company hits a snag, here is a list of some of the top ones that operate regionally or nationally. It isn’t exhaustive because it doesn’t include companies and contractors that operate only in your area, but it’s a good start.

Start with a Good Fencing Foundation

Posts are the backbone of any fencing system. Your fence posts support the fencing itself, and because of that, need to be made of a durable material and installed properly to do their job.

While preparing to construct your fence, you’ll have some choices to make about the posts. By understanding the specific functions of your new fence, you’ll find your decisions are easier to make. Consider these questions:

  • Will the fence be permanently installed?
  • What is the general layout of the fence?
  • What additional features are required? Consider gate placement, corner placement and terrain the fence encloses.

With those aspects in mind, it’s important to understand that your fence system may require several different types of fence posts:

  • Corner posts, which are usually made from wood, must be set deeper than in-line posts to withstand the strain of supporting the fence line. These posts require deep installation (about equal to their above ground height) to help support them as they stand against the strain of a taut fence line.
  • In-line posts will be needed between corner posts to support the fence wire and keep it from sagging. In-line posts do not need to be installed as deeply as corner posts, but should still be firmly set into the ground.
  • Temporary and portable posts, which are smaller and lighter, might be used to section off a pasture into smaller areas for short periods of time. These posts are easy to install, often pushed into the soil quickly with a step-in flange.

Fence post spacing varies depending on how the fence will be used. Most posts that will carry an electric fence should be placed 12 to 20 feet apart.

Fence Post Types

Types of fence posts available for use include:

  • Wood Posts – For use as a corner posts, it’s recommended to use a wood post at least 8 feet in length. Set 24 inches to 48 inches in the ground for best results and more than 48 inches in sandy or rocky soil. Also suitable for gate and in-line posts.
  • Steel Rebar or Fiberglass Rod Posts – These posts are ideal for temporary and portable fencing needs, such as rotational grazing or temporary corrals. Serving identical purposes, fiberglass and steel posts are equally useful in the pasture. Fiberglass rods are considered more flexible, but are also require gloves for handling. Both these posts can also be used as in-line posts or spacers.
  • T-Posts – With a variety of easy-to-use accessories, t-posts can be used with permanent or semi-permanent fences. In particular, they work great as in-line posts. T-posts require a special handheld post pounder to drive them into the ground.
  • Step-in Posts – An inexpensive option for temporary fencing, step-in posts are lightweight and small, making them perfect for rotational grazing systems. They also work well as in-line posts and require no clips or insulators.
  • Pigtail Posts – These posts are ideal for use in cross-fencing for managed intensive grazing systems and feature a lightweight, portable design. Loops at the top of these posts resemble a pig’s tail for easy line attachment. They also require no clips or insulators.

Wood Fence Posts

When selecting a wooden fence post, there are a few things to consider. First off, remember that wooden fence posts will decay over time. For the most part, untreated wood will decay in just a few years, so you want to look for wood that’s been pressure-treated with chromated copper arsenate (CCA). This treatment slows the decay, often extending the life of a fence post from years to decades.

Of course, not all CCA treated wood is the same. Look for a measurement on the post that reads 0.4 lb/ft3 or higher. This indicates the amount of CCA applied per cubic foot of lumber. Anything lower will break apart fairly quickly.

The other consideration when selecting wood fence posts is the type of tree the post is derived from. Pine is the most common and, when pressure treated, can last for up to 30 years. Other long-lasting types are Redwood and Sweetgum.

Some tree species don’t need to be treated and can last up to 25 years. Primary among them are Black Locust and Osage Orange.

Whether treated or not, avoid using “landscape timbers” for fence posts, which are often unlabeled and not cut to support fence tension.

Metal Fence Posts

At first thought, it may seem like using metal fence posts for your fencing needs is a perfect solution for your fencing needs. In some cases, such as an ornamental fence or as part of a chain link fence, that’s perfectly fine. However, in nearly every other instance metal fence posts are inferior to wooden ones, especially as corner posts.

Though metal is strong and durable, it isn’t as flexible as wood. Once it’s bent, it stays bent. When it comes to fencing, you want posts that are a bit flexible and return to their original shape after being stressed. If you’re installing a fence to be used with livestock, then chances are that those animals will test that fence by pushing it to its limit. If that happens with a metal fence post, there’s no going back – you’ll need to replace it.

Corner posts should be sunk as deep into the ground as their above ground height. In-line posts aren’t under the same stress, so they can be planted shallower.

Posted on by cuttingedget

A lot of people scoff at the dream of a “white picket fence” in a yard, but for many people, a fence is a way of really changing your yard for the good. In fact, many insurance companies and municipalities require you to have a fence around your pool, especially if it is in ground.

But when it comes to getting a fence, not all companies are created equally. Top 10 Habits of an Excellent Fencer

Maybe you’re heading into your first year of competitive fencing, or maybe you’ve been at it for a few years now and are taking home medals. Either way, you can always learn some new habits and do a little extra to up your game.

If you’re new to the sport, now’s the time to start thinking about good habits! It’s easier to start off on the right foot from the beginning than it is to make changes later. If you’re an experienced fencer who plans to keep pushing for the next level, use this post as a checklist to see where you’re already on the right track or where you can improve.

Here are 10 things that excellent fencers do:

#1 They are athletes first.

Modern fencing is a very athletic sport. You must have great endurance, explosive speed, and flexibility. An extra inch on your lunge or a quicker start can make all the difference in a fencing bout! You must be aerobically fit for back-to-back bouts when you advance in Direct Elimination. Often what separates the top finishers from those that get knocked out is not fencing skills, but the ability to keep fencing at a high level late in the day.

The best fencing clubs have an entire weekly class dedicated solely to conditioning. Sometimes these classes are optional—the best fencers don’t see them that way. They require themselves to go because they are committed to their sport.

#2 They focus on footwork.

You must have the basics and foundation down solid in order to build on top of that with excellent fencing skills. Exceptional fencers take the time to perfect their footwork. They are willing to drill it over and over again even though it may not be the most exciting part of training.

Good footwork is the only way to be in the right place as quickly as possible, and that’s a huge part of fencing. And the only way to learn good footwork is to practice, practice, practice until it’s second nature. Get this down first, and you’ll be paving the way for yourself to become a talented fencer.

#3 They engage in physical training outside of fencing.

You might think that the best fencers spend all of their time fencing, but it just isn’t so! Other physical activities make great cross training for fencing. Look for successful fencers that swim, run, play badminton, or play tennis.

#4 They respect their opponents.

While the connection may not be as obvious, you will notice that the most accomplished fencers tend to be very respectful of their opponents. Fencing has noble origins and all fencers are expected to display respect for themselves, their opponents, and the officials when competing. The best fencers go above and beyond in this regard. They don’t flaunt their skills, but let their abilities speak for themselves. They also are often the first to offer a tip or a bit of coaching for their fellow fencers.

#5 They ask for advice.

You learn by doing, but also by watching and learning from others. The best fencers are not too proud to ask for help and are constantly seeking out advice and tips from other fencers and coaches. They also take constructive criticism well. You can’t learn or get better if you’re not willing to accept your areas of weakness! Listen to the experts around you and take their advice as a gift.

#6 They watch lots of bouts.

Good fencers watch other good fencers. They watch their teammates and they watch their opponents. They watch bouts in person and also on TV and YouTube. They are always looking to learn from others and try something new to improve their skills.

#7 They take private lessons.

Group training is a great way to get started in the sport of fencing and should be part of continued training throughout a fencer’s career. But the best fencers always graduate to adding private lessons and then keep going to them continually on a weekly basis. Ideally they find a certain coach that is a good fit and stick with that coach for consistency in training and to build a mentoring relationship.

Even Veteran fencers take private lessons!

#8 They attend clinics and intensive specialty camps.

The best fencers go above and beyond weekly training and private lessons to also attend clinics and specialty camps. These events are often in the summer during the off-season and good fencers know that it’s important to keep practicing. Plus, clinics and camps give them the opportunity to train with different people and learn new things from new coaches.

Simply put, nothing can beat a one- or two-week intensive program in which the fencer is training day after day; it can lead to a breakthrough in progress. The most serious fencers will seek out this type of training right before an important competition.

#9 They eat well and take care of their bodies.

For the serious athlete, your body is your greatest tool. Standout fencers take their physical health seriously. They eat well, get plenty of sleep, and rest when they need it (e.g., injuries or illness). You may see a serious fencer work through an injury or illness when it matters most (like at Nationals or World Championships!), but a smart fencer will sit out a practice if he or she is truly ill or injured to get healthy for the next practice or competition.

#10 They have FUN!

If you think about most of the great athletes of our time, they all seemed to truly enjoy their sport. You don’t get to the top levels of competition by hating every step along the way or pushing yourself so hard that you lose the excitement and joy.

Make sure to remember that sports are essentially GAMES and are designed for enjoyment and satisfaction. You can take fencing very seriously, we certainly do, but at the end of the day, you will lose some bouts and you will win some bouts, and you have to make sure to keep having fun either way.

Deer fencing can be a necessary component to protect your garden, keep ticks at bay, and prevent deer from entering your yard. While it’s possible to plant deer-resistant shrubs and perennials that don’t attract deer, it’s not always a guarantee that deer won’t visit your outdoor space—and along with stepping on your plants, they can even bring disease-carrying ticks with them.

Thankfully, there are a variety of choices for deer fencing that can be utilized without the need for planting deer-resistant species or spraying harsh chemicals to remove ticks. By fencing deer out, you can keep your plants safe, avoid chemicals, and even keep pets in your yard with the right options.

Below, learn all about different types of common deer fencing and repellants to keep these pests away from your outdoor space.

Considerations for Deer Fencing

Before choosing a deer fence, consider the following features:

  • Fence Height: Deer are great jumpers, capable of leaping 8 feet into the air. While some shorter fences can be effective, if deer are especially interested in your yard, a barrier-style deer fence at least this tall may be best. Many other kinds of fencing cannot reliably keep deer from crossing your property borders.
  • Slack: Even as large animals, deer can try to push under fencing. Ensure there is no gap between your fencing and the ground. When using any type of loose fencing (for example, metal wire or polypropylene mesh), leave some slack. Let the extra fencing spill over the ground and pin it down with stakes.
  • Repairs: Any damage incurred by barrier-style fencing will have to be repaired promptly: A compromised barrier is not effective. Deer are smart enough to find a breach in the fence and enter through it quickly.
  • Pest Prevention: Depending on the type of fence you build, you can prevent other pests like rodents and small mammals. However, you must select barrier-style fencing that only has small openings. This can cost more, so decide whether the benefit is worth the extra cost.
  • Durability: To increase durability, any metal deer fence you use should be galvanized, and any polypropylene fence should be UV-protected.
  • Gates: Remember to include a gate or other means of accessing the area being fenced (and deer-proof the gate with proper latches).

    Metal Wire Fencing

    zixuan Fu / Unsplash

    • Best for: Easy installation

    Metal wire fencing consists of heavy-gauge metal wires running horizontally and vertically that form rectangles, which are attached together at each intersection. This is one of the best options for the greatest number of gardeners, as it’s typically affordable compared to standard yard fencing. It’s also easy to install: Simply hammer metal posts (or install stronger wood posts) in the ground, then attach the wire to each post.

    This type of deer fencing for years has been a go-to for gardeners and farmers for years. It still has its champions, and it’s quite durable when the posts are properly sunken into the ground. If you’re willing to pay for a high-end product, metal wire deer fences that have been coated in black polyethylene are the best of the bunch, as they’re more weather-resistant and less visible than standard silver wire options.

    Cons

    • Needs to be staked into the ground

    • More expensive than polypropylene mesh

    • Silver metal wire options can stand out

    Polypropylene Mesh Fencing

    • Best for: Affordability

    Polypropylene mesh is a type of plastic fencing that’s attached to vertical posts to form a barrier, similar to metal wire. This option is the most affordable, but it may look less attractive than some other options. Installing polypropylene mesh tightly—rather than letting it become loose—can help it look more like standard fencing.

    Keep in mind that deer are powerful animals that can rupture plastic fencing that isn’t strong enough. If you do choose polypropylene mesh, select a grade that has a breaking load of at least 800 pounds. The breaking load figure signifies how strong the product is.

    Pros

    • Best affordable option

    • Types with higher breaking loads are durable enough to prevent deer

    • Mesh is nearly invisible

    Cons

    • Needs to be staked into the ground

    • Can be unattractive without tight installation

    • Not as durable as metal wire

    Electric Fencing

    JMrocek / Getty Images

    • Best for: Less visual obstruction

    Electric deer fencing consists of a wire (or wires) strung low along a border that carries a mild shock. This type of deer fencing isn’t a constant barrier: Instead, it’s helpful to influence deer behavior, similar to an electric dog fence influencing your pet’s behavior. Some options are affordable, while others can become expensive depending on the brand.

    Electric fencing is cheap and much less visually obtrusive than mesh or permanent fences, but it’s not as effective. It’s sometimes baited with food to expose the animal to the shock, which discourages it from approaching the area in the future. A variation is a product known as “The Wireless Deer Fence.” In this case, baited posts (with no actual fence) are placed on deer paths leading into your property or around plants prone to be eaten by deer.

    Chain-Link Fence

    Pranut Kukom / EyeEm / Getty Images

    • Best for: Sturdy fencing on a budget

    Chain-link fences consist of sturdy metal wires that interlink in a zig-zag pattern, which are attached to metal posts that must be set in concrete underground. Like other conventional fences, chain-link fencing can also serve as a barrier to deer.

    Tip

    In general, it’s best for deer fencing to be at least 8 feet tall. If you don’t have plants that are particularly known for attracting deer (or previous deer problems in your yard), a shorter chain-link fence may be effective.

    Chain-link fencing is very durable, and while it’s more expensive than wire or polypropylene mesh options, it’s still more affordable than wood privacy fences. However, deer can still see through it, so they may be tempted to jump the fence to reach your garden if they notice appetizing plants.

    Cons

    • Difficult installation

    • Can be considered unsightly

    • More expensive than other popular options

    Privacy Fence

    Blogging Guide / Unsplash

    • Best for: Sturdy fencing with an attractive look

    Solid wood privacy fences are typically at least 6 feet tall and composed of solid wood boards attached tightly together. This option can be the most effective at preventing deer, as its durability and view-blocking features make it difficult for deer to see plants and breach the fence.

    By choosing a wood privacy fence, it’s easy to get by without the full 8-foot fencing height. The reason is that deer can’t see if a potential predator is on the other side, so they err on the side of caution and move on (instead of jumping your fence). However, wood privacy fences are often expensive.

Choosing a Deer Fence

Deer fencing varies in cost, visibility, effectiveness, and durability. First, assess your landscaping budget: If budget constraints are too burdensome, consider installing an affordable deer fence like metal wire, polypropylene mesh, or even an electric fence. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a long-lasting and attractive fence, other standard options like wood privacy fences can be very effective. Hiring a local fence company is a great way to ensure your fence is installed properly and built to code.

Rather than fences, some homeowners also prefer to use deer repellents. These range from DIY options (like spraying plants with crushed hot peppers or unpleasant smells) to commercial repellents. Depending on the product, deer are driven away because they dislike the smell or taste of the substance. However, whereas fencing represents a long-term solution to the problem, repellents offer only a temporary solution, as they must be reapplied after rain and plant waterings.

A good stainless steel railing will last half a century.

Railings are a frequent functional element in the design of office and retail premises. Railings and railings made of stainless steel is a building envelope that provides safe descent / ascent of the stairs.

In addition, they are an accent decorative element of the interior.

Application area

Stainless stair railings are used in the construction of:

  • stairs;
  • entrance groups;
  • open areas;
  • ramps;
  • loggias and balconies;
  • swimming pools.

They solve many practical and aesthetic problems. The main function of building envelopes is to protect people from falling. In addition, they can be used as a support to facilitate climbing / descending stairs, ramps, etc. The beautiful, strict gloss of fences and handrails decorates the interior and becomes an important element of the architectural appearance of the building’s facade.

Today, the manufacture of stainless steel structures is also in demand in private housing construction. And this is not only a railing for the entrance group, which will look great in front of the entrance to a law office, and to a country cottage, and to a small store. Stainless steel stairs to the second floor fit perfectly into all modern styles – loft, techno, minimalism, Scandinavia. Straight, mid-flight, spiral staircases can be decorated with beautiful smooth railings.

Glass and stainless steel are materials partners that are used together in many constructive solutions. Thanks to glass screens, you can be calm for the safety of children and pets. Decorated in different decor techniques, the glass filling will become a spectacular decoration of the interior.

Another material partner for stainless steel is wood. This combination is rarely used, but allows you to perfectly integrate the cold sheen of metal into chic classic interiors. Not only wooden railings, but also racks will bring a special charm and zest.

Benefits of stainless steel railings

The use of stainless steel pipe and bowstring for handrails, resistant to corrosion and properly designed, results in the following advantages:

  • corrosion resistance, which is very important especially when installed in damp rooms, outdoors, in aggressive environments;
  • excellent strength and high load-bearing capacity – handrails and railings provide reliable support;
  • low dead weight of the structure, which reduces the level of requirements for the base and reduces installation;
  • aesthetic appearance – the surface of the pipe has an even gloss, which remains throughout the entire period of operation;
  • easy installation due to the presence of a variety of extensions and accessories – tees, support posts, couplings, fittings for turns, holders for bowstring or glass, etc . ;
  • long service life of decades. Usually railings are changed in connection with the renovation of the interior, and not because of their wear and tear.

Of course, all these advantages are provided on the condition that the fences are made of high-quality material and the installation technology is fully observed. For example, installing a cheap pipe made of chrome steel is fraught with the fact that the structure will quickly rust. Violation of design and installation standards can cause insufficient rigidity of the railing and strength, their rapid wear. In this case, the design may even begin to pose a danger during operation.

Features of stainless steel railings

Sturdy railings for stairs and landings have a wide range of applications in different segments of building arrangements. They are installed for fencing stairs, entrance groups, atriums, rooftop platforms. They enclose street terraces and paths, pools and much more. Features of their application:

  • Any kind of internal and external installation work, which allows you to create beautiful design solutions both outside the building and inside. Stairs made of stainless steel are well integrated into both classic style solutions and modern ones.
  • Can be installed on a variety of substrates: brick, concrete, wood, metal. Thanks to this, the design is easily mounted both indoors and outdoors.
  • The material is resistant to heat and cold, temperature changes and other weather conditions. It does not rust even at high humidity, does not deteriorate, does not rot.
  • Low maintenance, easy to clean, no scratches. There are no streaks or marks left on the surface. It shines beautifully under the lamps and in the sun.

Ledger, post and handrail construction provides high strength and reliability, can withstand heavy loads.

Fencing design features

There are several types of fencing structures: Usually they are located at a height of 900mm from the floor and have an offset of 60mm from the wall. Wall handrails can be single, double, with an additional handrail for children;

  • railings are a well-established way to fill in railings. The crossbars are attached to the posts through crossbar holders or by welding. The fence can be with a different number of crossbars: usually from one to six;
  • without girders – railings without filling on posts. Racks can be located through one step, on each step, 2 per step;
  • combined – stainless steel system can be complemented with premium wood handrails or posts;
  • glass – this is a beautiful and safe option, since the glass cloth performs additional enclosing functions. Glazing becomes a reliable barrier between the span and the march. In frame models, glasses are installed between racks on clamp or plate holders. In all-glass versions, the canvas is installed on mini-racks, profile or points. This option is also advantageous because it is possible to install not only traditional transparent glass, but also bronze, gray, tinted, sandblasted, etc .;
  • with vertical filling – structures are installed in schools and kindergartens. They are carried out according to GOST. The height of the enclosing structures is 1,200 mm. A continuous vertical grate, in which the spacing of the bars is only 100mm, reliably protects the baby from falling. Additionally, double, triple handrails can be installed, providing comfort of movement;
  • cable – systems with steel cables look light and delicate. Cables with a diameter of 6 mm are stretched between the balusters with the help of lanyards;
  • with double handrails – such structures are installed on ramps and often on stairs in buildings that are often visited by the disabled, the elderly and children.
  • Handrails for railings can be very different and solve various design problems: round, square, glass, wood, etc.

    Installation features

    type of fasteners and installation locations of racks, taking into account the strength of the base and load requirements;

  • Marking of rack installation sites. Fastening of stainless steel racks is possible in concrete, granite, tile, marble, wood, metal. Diamond drilling is carried out to a depth of 100 mm or other methods of fastening. Such work can be carried out on the finished finish without damaging it;
  • installation of posts in prepared holes. The system is reinforced with hardening solutions;
  • fitting of handrails, crossbars to calculate the exact geometry. For glass railings, a geodetic survey is required before the glass is made;
  • welding of pillars, handrails, filling with polishing.
  • The most popular method for assembling fences is welding. It gives the structure solidity, rigidity, and increases the service life. After welding, the welds are cleaned until the surface is perfectly smooth and mirror-like. High-quality manufacturing of stainless steel fences ensures that the finished product will not have sharp corners and notches that you can catch on.

    Balcony railings

    Stainless steel balcony railings fit perfectly into the facade and architecture of the building and are protected from corrosion. It is possible to install different types of fencing:

    • with crossbars – the most economical option. 3-6 crossbars are placed in the design;
    • with vertical filling is a great option if children go out on the balcony. The gaps between the posts are 10cm. The frequency of the racks increases the rigidity of the structure by an order of magnitude.

    Another option is a glass screen railing with high-strength triplex, which is hung on holders. Glass not only encloses the balcony, but also protects from the wind. Glass with a 5-fold margin of safety is used for balcony railings. It will not work to accidentally break such a fence, but to do it on purpose, you will have to try. The fence can be on racks or all-glass (on mini racks, points, profile). Opportunity to install frosted glass for greater privacy.

    According to GOST, balcony railings must withstand a load of up to 300 kg. The railings use AISI304 low carbon, high nickel and chromium alloy steel. It is perfectly protected from corrosion in outdoor conditions and retains excellent aesthetic characteristics for up to 50 years. For balcony railings, the most durable type of installation is used – for welding.

    Similar requirements for roof railings. They are installed on flat roofs and must be continuous. If the fence is placed on the roof of the visited office, retail buildings or hotels, glass infill is usually used with a glass thickness of 8 mm to 12 mm. If, taking into account the entire perimeter, it is expensive to install glass screens, horizontal crossbars can be placed between the posts.

    Pricing

    The price per meter of stainless steel fencing depends on a number of factors:

    • on the steel grade – the AISI 316 pool grade is more expensive, AISI 304 outdoor steel is slightly less expensive, AISI 201 indoor steel is the most inexpensive;
    • surface – using brushed steel will increase costs compared to polished;
    • number of fittings: for example, crossbars can be installed on welding or crossbar holders, or even pass through the rack;
    • design complexity: for example, the strapping may be continuous, only the handrail may be tied, or the railing may be completely broken after each march.

    Thus, having decided to install stainless steel railings, you need to call a measurer who will evaluate the installation features and calculate the price more accurately.

      How to choose a shower enclosure? Ideas and helpful tips

      A hot shower is one of the essential pleasures of the day. In addition to the actual need, it gives a charge of positive energy and a good mood. A shower enclosure is an elegant design for arranging a shower area. A visual and constructive barrier that separates the place of water procedures from the rest of the room. In fact, these are doors with a pallet or even without it. And without a back wall and a shower rack. Fencing always requires special preparation of the walls, because. attached directly to them. Saves a lot of bathroom space.

      Choose the shape and place of installation! If you are a happy owner of a niche in the bathroom, then by installing the door, you will get a comfortable shower area. Please note there are many options. One section is enough if the niche is small. A three-dimensional design is suitable for a spacious one: with a static segment, with a door system or even an accordion. Interestingly, in addition to the usual options, there are shower doors with a double-sided mirror mosaic pattern. This is a great way to visually enlarge the space by expanding the boundaries and decorating the room.

      The most common shower enclosure shape is the quarter circle. Installed in the corner, effectively save space. A great solution if the bathroom is small. As you know, the main principle when choosing a shower enclosure is to fit well into the allotted space. It is desirable that the size of the fence was still not less than 80×80. Interestingly, in addition to the usual fences with sliding doors and four sections, there are products with hinged doors, as well as with two or three segments.

      The most unusual shape is a semicircle. Installation of the fence is possible anywhere along the wall, perfect for very spacious bathrooms or rooms with a complex layout, where all corners are occupied by other plumbing.

      Pentagonal railing is the trendiest option. High ergonomics, elegant appearance. Diamond-like edges visually expand the boundaries of the room, adding air and light. The corner arrangement allows you to reasonably spend the usable area. Please note that there are products with a towel holder on the handle, as well as with a rose gold shade profile. The color of the dawn, and indeed the metals of warm shades, make the atmosphere delicate and inviting.

      In today’s world, asymmetry is synonymous with great opportunities. What is not available in a conventional bathroom becomes possible in a complex layout. Asymmetric shower enclosures create a unique interior, adapt to the available space, but most importantly – provide exceptional comfort. And with the current variety, you can choose the perfect option. Let’s say 90×70, 80×70, 100×80. The finer the settings, the higher the comfort.

      The square shape is considered the most traditional. No surprises – everything is simple, convenient and versatile. And the design execution can surprise: an unconventional original handle to the floor or a “cellular” design. Such “segmentation” completely changes the perception, gives a sense of security along with extraordinary ease. Great option for perfectionists!

      And finally, rectangular shower enclosures. Usually require space in the bathroom. Installation can be both corner and along the wall. Interestingly, with all the traditional forms, such a fence can look very creative and boring. For example, a black profile, extreme transparency and a barn style are some of the most current trends. An amazing combination of luxury and rebellion.

      Another unusual rectangular fence – in the form of a constructor. These are several partitions connected by a connector. Moreover, you choose the internal dimensions of the shower area yourself. Here they are, the magical possibilities of transformation for personal comfort. In search of unusual options, you can look at the fence, which looks like the letter E or a beach cabana. The middle wall defines the place for taking a shower, and in such a semi-enclosed space, heat is retained longer. There are no moving parts, which means there is simply nothing to break.

      The most airy and visually lightest design is the “free entrance”. A lonely glass canvas without doors with one or even two entrances. Looks impressive. It perfectly zones the space, allocating a place for a shower and protecting another part of the bathroom from water. It is important to remember that when choosing a solution without a pallet, you will have to install a shower drain and prepare the walls and floor in a special way.

      If not “free entrance”, then which doors are better? Swing doors require space to open. Not suitable if a sink or furniture is installed next to the shower. There are hinged doors that open in both directions. And sliding doors move to the left or right along the guides. Convenient and modern solution.

      Which glasses to choose? When you want privacy, you should look at tinted or matte. But the most popular option is transparent. Thanks to them, the shower does not clutter up the bathroom and becomes almost invisible. Good practice – combination: transparent glass with a pattern, mirror mosaic or engraving.

      Whatever decision you make, a shower enclosure is a great choice! Saves space, leaving a significant space inside, compensates for uneven walls, costs less than a cabin. And in the absence of a pallet, a barrier-free zone is obtained. Take a shower with pleasure!

      Road metal barrier barriers: types, design and installation

      It is difficult to imagine a modern road route without barriers that perform multiple functions. Road barriers are primarily elements of the road that prevent car accidents by containing and dividing the lane. What are the types of fences, as well as their purpose and provisions, fixed by GOST, we will consider further.

      So classic road fences look like

      Characteristics of road barriers and their purpose

      Road barriers are made mainly of steel, the top layer of which is covered with a thin zinc protective layer, which prevents its premature deterioration. Elements of road barriers are beams that have supporting mounting posts.

      Guard rail mounting parts

      In addition to metal, concrete structures are also widely used, which are stronger and more durable. The production of road barriers is carried out at specialized factories, where reliable supports and separators are created.

      Road barriers perform the following functions:

      • Protect the car from driving into a ditch on especially dangerous sections of the road route: bridges, hills, cliffs;
      • Divides the roadbed into several parts, preventing collision of oncoming traffic;
      • Do not allow pedestrians to violate the rules of the road: crossing the road in the wrong place;
      • Restrict the roadway from wild animals that can create an emergency on the road;
      • Serves as a warning element when an accident is filed on the road or when road works are required to be guarded.

      In addition to the positive aspects of installing fences, there is one significant disadvantage.

      Various types of road barriers

      Road barriers prevent snow removal by specialized machines, making this process almost impossible. However, a significant number of pluses make these elements of the road extremely important and necessary, especially in those places where the most emergency sections are located.

      Return to the top

      Types of road barriers

      Since the route can be very diverse and pass through various relief irregularities, road barriers are classified according to three main characteristics:

      1. Derived material.
      2. Functionality.
      3. Appearance.

      Depending on what role the fences should play, their installation differs, the main provisions of which are fixed in GOSTs 26804 and 52289.

      what material they are made of:

      • concrete;
      • reinforced concrete;
      • metal;
      • plastic.

      Return to the top

      Concrete and reinforced concrete fences

      Fences made of this material are distinguished by increased strength, as well as the ability to withstand strong impacts, preventing vehicles from leaving the roadway. Concrete fenders and parapets can be of two types:

      • dividing;
      • fencing.

      The first ones divide the carriageway into several parallel sections, preventing the collision of oncoming traffic. Fencing structures are usually installed on the side of the road, preventing vehicles from moving into a ditch. Such structural elements can be found both on ordinary highways and on bridges.

      The installation of concrete trapezoidal barrier-type barriers is carried out using special equipment, because the weight of one such structural part is quite large (especially if we take into account reinforced concrete).

      Existing types of concrete fences

      Installation is carried out in accordance with GOST, which sets out the main provisions and rules for the use of specific elements of fences.

      Initially, markings are made on the road, where monolithic structures will be subsequently installed one by one. For those places where marking is not possible, a beam is installed.

      Return to index

      Metal railings

      Metal railings look like a beam attached to supporting structures. According to GOST 26804, which fixes the provisions on the operation of barrier-type metal fences, the structure has the following structure:

      • Beam;
      • Metal stand;
      • Bridge support;
      • Rigid console;
      • Reflective part of the face guard.

      In road bridge railings, two-tier structures made of barrier-type metal are used, which several times increases the functional ability to restrain vehicles from falling.

      Scheme for assembling road barriers made of metal

      GOST 26804 states that the installation of such barrier-type metal barriers is appropriate for those places where there is a high probability of vehicles leaving the roadway: long turns and “blind” zones.

      Back to index

      Plastic barriers

      In some countries, where the tracks have small relief irregularities, it is customary to use plastic road barriers. It is a barrier-type plastic tank into which sand or small gravel is poured. This kind of protection softens the blow, and is also able to restrain the car from significant damage.

      In this case, the installation of plastic barriers is advisable in places of road signs, as well as where there are no road markings. Naturally, concrete and metal barriers have many more advantages, but their high cost sometimes leads to the fact that plastic road barriers are preferred.

      Return to the table of contents

      Types of barriers by functional purpose

      Road barriers are capable of dividing, enclosing, restraining. These qualities served as the classification of fences: dividing, enclosing and restraining. The barrier protection can be both metal, and concrete. It all depends on the purpose for which it is used.

      Dividing fences in most cases are needed in order to divide the roadway into several equal parts.

      Such marking not only conditionally separates, but also well protects against possible oncoming traffic collisions. Retaining railings usually act as a parapet, which looks like a beam with the main metal structures fixed.

      The process of installation of metal road barriers

      The marking and installation of restraining barriers is carried out by road services in accordance with special laws and rules of work enshrined in GOSTs.

      Return to the top

      Classification of fences by appearance

      The appearance of road fences also plays a significant role, especially for places of national importance. GOST fixes the following types of fences according to their shape:

      • Beam, when a metal beam is attached to the supporting pillars of the pavement;
      • Rope: a cable is pulled between metal support posts to restrain vehicles in emergency situations;
      • Trapezoidal. Concrete and reinforced concrete chippers having such a shape do not interfere with movement, and also provide reliable protection;
      • Fencing – reinforced concrete fences in the form of small protective fences;
      • Water filled – plastic containers filled with water.

      Cable road barriers are most often found on country roads with a high accident rate.

      Cable road barrier

      GOST allows the use of this type of limiters in several rows, especially for places where exits into a ditch are possible. This provides good impact resistance and also causes less damage than a concrete fence.

      A new element of dividing fences are plastic monoblocks, which are made in the form of water tanks. They usually come in two colors: red and white. They are used rather to attract attention, as well as to warn drivers of vehicles about repairs taking place on the road. They are quite easy to transport from place to place, which makes such fences extremely popular during temporary road repairs.

      It should be noted that road barriers in terms of their functionality are not only faithful assistants on the roads, especially in emergency situations, but also serve as a kind of decorative element, making the track unique and attractive.

      Back to the top

      Rules for the use of road barriers

      There is GOST 52289, the last part of which fixes the rules and norms for the use and installation of road barriers. In the first parts, the rules for installing road signs, as well as fencing places with increased accident risk, are considered.

      The rule for the use of road barriers, which is fully regulated by GOST, contains the following main provisions:

      1. The holding capacity of the barriers must be strong enough to resolve the emergency with minimal loss.
      2. The marking of road sections where the installation of fences is planned must fully comply with the requirements, especially for residential areas and administrative territories.
      3. Bridge structures must protect not only vehicles, but also pedestrians.
      4. The sizes and dimensions of the guards are used depending on the places of installation, as well as their functions.

        Dimensional drawing of the guardrail structure

      5. Separate supports are used for road signs, which are not part of the barriers.
      6. When registering an accident, it is recommended to use plastic signs and fences, which are installed as a warning to drivers about a possible danger.
      7. Parapets and bridge railings must have handrails for pedestrians to hold on to.
      8. Fencing is being installed in stages so that at least one working lane remains.
      9. Lack of road signs can lead to serious accidents.
      10. If the installation of fences involves concreting the curb, this must be approved (this applies to protected areas and wildlife sanctuaries).

      Back to index

      Guaranteed road safety

      Undoubtedly, the main purpose of road barriers is road safety. It does not matter if they separate or restrain, at the moment of creating an emergency, their purpose is to maximize the safety of human life and minimal damage to the vehicle.

      Despite this, it is important for drivers to know and understand the responsibility that lies on their shoulders while driving. Therefore, it is important to follow the rules of the road, pay attention to the existing signs, especially in those places where the traffic flow is huge. Every year, road barriers become more and more durable, as do various devices that reduce injuries in a collision.

      For example, a reflective coating of metal and concrete fences allows the driver to see the dimensions of obstacles at night, as well as the upcoming road. No matter how modern and durable the fences are, the safety of life and the car depends entirely on the driver, who needs to drive the vehicle as carefully as possible without violating the rules of the road.

      In the morning at the intersection of Dostyk Avenue and Satpayev Street, the pit lane where the cars were located was crowded. Still, not every day in the city center you can see so many familiar movie and TV characters and even sit inside their unusual racing cars.

      The Red Bull Soapbox Race was held in Almaty for the third time. Participants of 51 crews came to the start, showing imagination in everything. Some of the names of the teams were worth something: “Shearer on the Blade”, “Tailed Axes”, “Mad Sideboard”, “Hydraulic Horse”, “Batyrs Clean And Fast”. To match were the costumes, which the participants mostly sewed themselves.

      – In 2019, we were spectators at the race, we liked it very much, so this time we decided to participate, – says the captain of the “Pike Heads” team with garlic” Alexey Grekov. – We all love fishing, hence the design of the car, the name and the whole entourage. The car was created two months. They tested it off-road and accelerated it to 60 km / h on the highway.

      “Ryba” didn’t let down its designers and “swam” the distance perfectly in 57.5 seconds, entering the top ten teams.

      By the way, the participants had to pass the 400-meter track as quickly as possible. At the same time, a track was waiting for them, stuffed with various obstacles, on which many lost their details, and some even got up. There were some falls, accidents, but that’s what makes the Red Bull Soapbox Race interesting. Here, the most nondescript car can easily go the distance and, conversely, heaped up to crash.

      So, the “Batyrs Clean And Fast” were unlucky on the bath: not having time to start, they had an accident and crashed into a fence. The obstacle “Tamgaly-Tas” became a stumbling block for them. Vanna lost her rear wheel and refused to go further.

      Bad luck at the same point and the team “Sweet afterburner”. Their car also crashed, but the crew came to the rescue, and the car continued the race. True, on the way I lost a couple of sweet elements, but successfully finished.

      – The smoke from the checkers got into my eyes, I didn’t see where I was going, and crashed into the hay, – admitted the pilot of the Sweet Fast and the Furious car Elizaveta Konovalova. “Then everything went smoothly. I thought it would be harder and scarier. Emotions are overflowing!

      In addition to positive emotions, the team also received a special prize in the nomination “The most delicious car” from SMALL.

      Not only emotions, but also weather conditions went off scale that day. The heavenly office every time tests the racers for stamina. At the first two races there was a scorching sun, but this time the wind came up, it got colder, and then it started to rain. The participants not only stoically coped with the weather vagaries, but also showed excellent time.

      ZigZag team

      There was some sensation. When the ZigZag crew, who had won the Red Bull Soapbox Race twice, got to the start line, the spectators were waiting. The guys made a car from the cartoon “Scooby-Doo”, but, alas, he brought them only to fourth place.

      It was evident that the team was very upset, but the race is a race. Here luck can easily turn away, and vice versa.

      – We really wanted to get into the prize-winners. And we did it! – Andrey Kulikovich, the captain of the Crazy Maksat team, which took third place, does not hide his emotions. – For the first time we participate and, I hope, not for the last time. “Mad Maksat” is our Kazakh version of the movie “Mad Max”. Guitars, costumes, paraphernalia were made by ourselves. Even the skull on the grille is handmade. We are happy!

      The team’s efforts didn’t go unnoticed, they also won the Most Creative Car category, established by Helios.

      This race will be remembered not only for interesting ideas in the creation of cars, but also for teams that came from other cities and shook Almaty with their performances.

      Cheerful “Hippies from Taraz” in bright costumes lit up to cool music

      © Maxim Malov/Red Bull Content Pool

      The “Hippies from Taraz” team is one of them. Cheerful, in bright costumes and cool music, the Taraz people lit from the heart. And not in vain. They became the silver medalists of the race.

      – Participation in this race is my dream. I like to create various interesting cars, and then go out and show them at car festivals, – Gennady Chernyavsky, the captain of the Hippie from Taraz team, told us. – When I found out that the Red Bull Soapbox Race will be held again in 2022, I decided that I would not miss it for anything! Friends supported the idea, and we have gathered a fun team. Why “Hippies from Taraz”? I have been collecting a real such car for four years and I am going to go on a European tour with my friends. I am glad that our idea brought us a prize. Next time we will come for the first place.

      – On the day of the race, I felt like a heroine from the movie “Tokyo Fast and the Furious” or someone associated with such racing films, where people experience a real storm of emotions. They invested so much, built, it was amazing. I am still overwhelmed with emotions from the race,” says artist Mimi Ilnitskaya. – With the Supernatural team, which became the winners, a childish trigger worked for me, because the car is, as it were, assembled from a metal constructor, and I really wanted such a constructor as a child. It was very difficult to get it, and only in schools they were given out at certain lessons. Due to the fact that I did not have the skill to correctly assemble this constructor, I, of course, could not assemble it. It all made me very sad. And at the sight of this car, I immediately froze and did not want to evaluate the car, which I never succeeded. And then, touching all the details that the guys cut out themselves, picked up all these elements in the way they should be combined, how they thought it all out, I didn’t fully know that the car was disassembled. When the team went up on stage and each of them took part of the car, I thought that the car fell and fell apart. But then at the performance, when they started to assemble the car, it was so engineered that we were all in shock. A lot of teams impressed me. People are obsessed with ideas, their eyes burn, they have a lot of emotions, they are in anticipation, in some kind of courage, and it’s all such a clean, healthy, sporty mood, such a lifestyle, people live it. A lot of people have a good sense of humor, it was noticeable in all the participants. Cars with comical ideas, where the members can artistically show something, it was a real show that you don’t see in cool places.

      Jury of Red Bull Soapbox Race – 2022

      © Andrey Kulagin/Red Bull Content Pool

      – This is my first time on the jury at such an event, – says singer Ali Okapov. – This race takes place in 130 countries of the world, and it’s great that Kazakhstan is on this list. I am very glad that such events are also held in our country, where people of different ages, professions are creative, create and are not afraid to be funny. The participants were amazed by their imagination. I really liked the team “Old School Hunters”, who created the car based on the movie “Ghostbusters”. I was impressed that they were quite mature people who were in no way inferior to the young. They took the race very seriously, from the build quality of the car to the synchronized dance. I love the message of the Red Bull Soapbox Race: have fun, enjoy life, make your dreams come true and don’t be afraid to be different.

      Supernatural’s team took the championship title and the main prize – a ticket to the final of the Formula 1 race in Abu Dhabi.

      – We first wanted to build a children’s construction kit. Then, on the Internet, we stumbled upon a Chevrolet Impala model from the TV series “Supernatural” and decided to make such a car,” commented Vladimir Ermolenko, captain of the Supernatural team. – The car passed the track perfectly and brought us the victory!
