The color of the sky, the ocean, and the happiest bird, blue has an inherent peaceful stillness that soothes the senses even as it refreshes the spirit. It’s no wonder that after neutrals shades, blue is the most popular color for decorating bedrooms. And what makes it even more praiseworthy is its adaptability. Match it with just about any other color—it works. Use it with just about any decorating theme—it can handle it. So whether you like your blues whisper-soft or extra-bright, mixed with a strong color, or partnered with a pastel, there’s a color combination that’s right for you. These bedrooms show you how to do blue right.

    Blue and Brown

    Stephanie Hoey Interiors

A great color duo is blue and brown, like this comfortable bedroom designed by Stephanie Hoey Interiors. Differing shades of brown in a variety of textures add dimension: the light colored wooden dresser, the dark-stained outline of the chair, and the tan and beige colored bedding show a great range. Pairing this with the pale blue curtains and the light blue pillows, and tying it together with the blue patterned area rug makes a subtle but charming combination.

    Blue and Pink

    JK Interior Living

Blue and pink are a delightful combination–no need to pick one over the other. This bright room from JK Interior Living is proof that these colors can go hand in hand. The pale periwinkle walls serve as an excellent backdrop for the pink wall art and decor, allowing them pop. The added pink floral detail on the ceiling shows that these colors can work in perfect harmony.

    Blue and Black

Pairing any color with black is bound to make a statement, and blue is no exception. Adding black into your bedroom doesn’t have to be overly dramatic, though. Including it through accents is a great way to create an anchor without overpowering the space. The cerulean color bed in this room certainly stands out, but the black and white art prints and the unique charcoal chandelier elevate the room to a bold, modern level.

    Blue and Silver

    If Walls Could Talk

Darker blues and silver are a perfect pairing if you’re looking for something classic and sophisticated. Just like this bedroom designed by If Walls Could Talk, the silver accents are a perfect highlight that doesn’t distract you from the blue focal point. The cool tones in both shades mean they aren’t competing with each other for the spotlight–they make a great team.

    Blue and Gold

However, silver isn’t the only metallic that blue works well with. This elegant bedroom proves that gold is just as dazzling. The best mix of these two colors is using gold in accent pieces, the way this room included the lamps, chairs, and small decor. With navy and cloudy shades on the bed and chairs, the room gives a modern and sophisticated feel.

    Blue and Purple

    Margot Austin

When blue is paired with purple, the results can be soft and sweet, like the bedroom here from designer and stylist Margot Austin. However, this combination can also become dramatic and moody when the chosen hues are dark and intense. Either way, combining these two cool colors makes for a soothing bedroom with a striking appearance.

    Blue and Red

    Eric Hernandez/Getty Images

Want a palette that pops, yet is easy to modify by going slightly muted with your chosen colors? Then give red and blue a try. It’s a classic country palette, especially when mixed with white as in the country charmer shown here. But you aren’t limited to casual or rustic styles: contemporary, retro, and Asian themes all work well in blue and red. It also makes a great palette option for a child’s bedroom.

    Blue and Orange

    KatarzynaBialasiewicz

Blue and orange are color complements, meaning that they sit directly across from each other on the color wheel. When used together, they have a powerful contrast and a definite dramatic vibe, so this isn’t the palette for a highly subdued or tranquil feel. Still, when used as accents, not as primary colors, blue and orange add a sense of excitement without overwhelming the space. For proof, check out the geometric teen bedroom shown here.

    Blue and White

    Kim Armstrong Interior Design

Match white with any other pure color, and you end up with a striking room. Combine white with a dark hue of pure blue, as in this lovely room from Kim Armstrong Interior Design, and you get a major dose of tranquility accented with a splash of drama. Add the nautical touches in the accessories throughout the space, and the final result is a bedroom that both soothes and delights.

    Blue and Yellow

    Dazey Den

Blue and yellow are quite different in feel—yellow is cheery and warm, while blue is relaxed and cool—yet they complement each other beautifully. While you can work this palette to perfection with just about any decorating theme, it certainly plays well in this stunning eclectic bedroom from Dazey Den

    Blue and Neutral

The beauty of neutrals is that they can carry a room on their own, but they also play well with every other color. When you add accents of blue to a neutral theme, as in this featured bedroom, you add a big dose of peace and serenity to an otherwise bland space. It’s even better in a room with rustic touches, like the weathered wood wall here.

    Blue and Gray

    Tom Sibley/Getty Images

While blue and gray are both on the cool side of the spectrum, they don’t have to cast a chill on your interior design. Just add in some touches of bright blue, like the turquoise throw pillows here, to chase off any cloudy or too-subdued doldrums. By keeping the gray soft and the other blues muted, the room’s overall vibe remains very serene and relaxed, yet still inviting.

    Blue and Beige

    Hannah Tyler Designs

If you prefer a calm, peaceful atmosphere, then you should try pairing blue and beige. These two have tons of versatility, regardless of which shade of blue you prefer. Whether you choose navy for contrast, a light blue for a beach style, or a moderate option for a tranquil oasis (as Hannah Tyler Designs did here with this lake house bedroom), you can’t go wrong.

    Go Monochromatic

Robin Ivy for Blakely Interior Design

Blue indeed works well with essentially every color–including itself. Monochromatic color schemes may seem like overkill to some, but they can be stunning when done correctly. This bedroom from Blakely Interior Design is a fitting example. The wallpaper incorporates navy and sky shades of blue, and the unique pattern allows both of them to shine, rather than looking drab and boring. The patterned rug on the floor and the lamps on the bedside tables build upon the blue color scheme, and the result is a serene and stylish atmosphere.

    Blue and Green

    Crisp Architects

Sitting next to each other on the color wheel, blue and green work together in perfect harmony. You can choose to go bright, but for a more soothing bedroom, stick with a pastel tint of blue and a slightly stronger lime green, as in the room designed by Crisp Architects shown here. Light blue walls and white molding create a wonderful backdrop for the pops of blue and lime green within the furniture, curtains, bedding, and accent pillows.

22 Ways to Decorate With Navy Blue in the Bedroom

Design: Marie Flanigan Interiors; Photo: Julie Soefer

Moody, mellow, modern—is there anything blue can’t do? While we’re firmly of the opinion that there’s never a bad time to embrace a blue mood, deep and dreamy navy hues have been spending some time in the spotlight. After Sherwin-Williams named their 2020 Color of the Year “Naval,” a slightly oversaturated true navy, we knew it was high time this standby blue got its due.

As one of the most classic bedroom colors, deep blue is known for being restful and soothing. But don’t worry, maximalists! These eclectic rooms prove that navy is much more than its traditionalist reputation. In fact, we think there’s something downright rebellious and edgy about many of these inky-dark retreats.

To shed some light on the color, we turned to interior designer Marie Flanigan, who is a big proponent of bringing navy into the bedroom. “I’m inspired by colors found in nature and am always drawn to the misty blues of the ocean and sky,” she tells us.

Read on to see 22 of our favorite navy blue bedrooms and expert tips on how you, too, can put a twist on the classic color.

If dark and moody just isn’t your style but you’re still looking for drama, the simplest way to keep a dark wall color from giving your bedroom a cavelike vibe is to paint just one accent wall and leave the rest white.

We especially love this high-contrast effect in spaces with high ceilings and big windows offering plenty of natural light. Blue and gray prove to be an awe-inspiring pairing in this soothing escape.

Let navy blue be the base for all your wildest pattern-mixing dreams. Here, a delicate floral wallpaper, a rattan headboard, and an embroidered quilt all play well together. Notice how shades of brown and terra-cotta create contrast with navy blues for a look that really pops? There’s a lot to learn from this elegant room that’s a lesson in tasteful maximalism.

Think back to your art class days, and take a look across the color wheel for a complementary color pairing that will knock ’em dead. An earthy orange or brown looks truly smashing when paired with a rich, dark blue like navy. Bonus points if your materials are earthy, too—rattan, leather, and wood fit the bill in this blue oasis of a bedroom that seems to embody the essence of calm.

The best thing about blue? It’s a vast color family, and we’ve yet to see a combination of blues clash—ever. Take a tip from this upscale, stylish retreat and pair navy blues with undertones ranging from green to gray to purple for an unexpectedly lush take on the trend. Feel free to throw in a few lighter blue accents for good measure, too.

Those looking for a serene retreat will find that navy is a natural fit in an Earth-inspired color palette.

“Bedrooms are the perfect place to incorporate these serene hues because they instantly provide a sense of calm and tranquility,” Flanigan tells us. A subtle gray-tone navy blanket is right at home next to foresty green pillows, pale sky blue bedding, and driftwood brown furniture in this down-to-earth bedroom.

Matchy-matchy never looked so modern as in this glam, Old Hollywood-inspired suite. Selecting furniture, throw pillows, and a rug in similar shades of indigo makes a monochrome, high-contrast color scheme look even more impactful—especially when it’s set against a fresh, white backdrop.

Our favorite touches, however, are the metallic gold and silver accents that really amp up that luxe look and stand out against blue and white.

When you love a color this much, you might just find it difficult to stop painting. Even an inky navy can take on a maximalist, over-the-top vibe when you let it bleed off the walls and onto architectural elements like millwork, the ceiling, and whatever else happens to get in your way. This is the kind of cozy bedroom cave we can get behind.

Our love for linen bedding is well-documented, but in shades of navy, the natural character of this cozy material looks even more inviting. Throw in some warmth from natural materials like wood, woven baskets, and a jute rug, and you’ll have the most inviting, global-inspired bedroom around. We’d love to wake up here on a rainy Sunday morning with nary a plan for the day.

Just because a room is dark doesn’t mean it has to be dreary. This rich, slate-blue bedroom in a mix of muted blues takes on a charming characteristic thanks to a door painted the same color as the walls. Patterned pillows, a fuzzy navy throw, and a cane headboard create some necessary contrast and round out the modern cottage aesthetic of this moody space.

It’s a no-brainer that deep, oceanic blues pair perfectly with rich tropical foliage—in fact, the link to nature is one of the reasons Sherwin-Williams cited for naming this hue Color of the Year in 2020. Play up your #plantmom instincts with some lush house plants or bring in tropical greenery through printed pillows and art if you don’t trust yourself with a plant just yet.

Why go minimalist when you can go full-blown maximalist? This swanky bedroom is the height of luxury in shades of deep navy and creamy ivory. The simple color palette leaves room for more extravagant touches like a stunning crystal chandelier and gold tables polished to a mirror shine. We love the free-standing, paneled headboard wall that separates the space from a closet and gives the whole room a five-star hotel vibe.

It’s actually pretty easy to fake some architectural detail if you’re in a home that doesn’t have any. Simple shiplap planks installed horizontally (or vertically if you’re looking to mix things up) look stunning no matter how you treat them. Paint them the same color as your walls for subtlety or go with a bolder color for more pizazz. We love how cerulean blue plays with all the navy and gray throughout the rest of this space.

Give your room the royal treatment with panels of fabric hung dramatically behind the bed. “One of my favorite ways to add color to the walls is to panel them in fabric,” Flanigan says. “It absorbs light in the most magical way and changes the whole feel of the room depending on the time of day.” It’ll also add a serious dose of glamour to your space.

Navy might have a reputation of being “traditional,” but that only means you have more creative freedom when adding off-the-wall, artsy elements to this stately hue.

Put another way? Go ahead and pack a ton of art, pattern, and texture into your dark blue bedroom—the sky’s the limit. And don’t forget a showstopping light fixture and some tropical foliage, while you’re at it.

We think millennial pink has finally met its match in the best way. Muted rose tones look chic—and dare we say, mature?—when paired with a playful, dark blue wallpaper. There’s just something very modern about the way this designer packed so much personality into one room. Consider this our blessing and all the encouragement you need to cross two buzzy colors off your list at once.

13 Colors That Will Complement Your Navy Blue Aesthetic Every Time

White-on-white interiors have been dominating for quite some time now, so we can understand if you’re craving a little color but may be nervous about taking the plunge.

As an honorary neutral that adds just a touch of drama, navy is the perfect way to dip your toes back into colorful waters. Start with a navy throw pillow or two, and if you like the look, layer on a blanket and maybe even upgrade your artwork to echo the color.

If you’ve been looking for a way to upgrade your bedroom furniture but something new just isn’t in the budget, consider giving one of your existing pieces (or a new-to-you secondhand find) a fresh coat of navy paint. Don’t forget to upgrade the hardware and style the top with a cute mirror and your favorite trinkets for best results.

So you’ve decided to take the plunge and coat your walls in a dramatic navy. Well, Flanigan has another tip for you. “When painting a bedroom a dark, bold color, I like to add layers of softness to create a visual break,” she shares. “Whether it’s elegant drapery framing the headboard or natural elements like leather or wood, these additions create a beautiful sense of depth.”

If you’ve been blessed with something more unique than the cookie-cutter, box-shaped rooms many of us live in, we highly encourage—no, we insist—that you show those assets off. Whether it be custom millwork, a fancy fireplace, or architectural ceilings, a coat of navy paint contrasted with white features (or vice versa) gives a crisp, high-contrast look that puts all those unique details in the spotlight.

In case you haven’t caught on, navy works in just about any space for any aesthetic, and rustic design is no exception. It works as a brilliant accent to the warmer color palettes often found in rustic design, which means a little navy can go a long way. Add a few touches here and there—think a blanket, pillow, or accent chair—then tie it in with a multicolored rug or piece of art.

What’s more synonymous with nautical than navy? This playful kids’ bedroom takes the classic motif a step further with a sweet wavey wallpaper, shades of blue bedding, and the cutest starfish pillow we’ve ever laid eyes on. But, nautical theme aside, navy is actually a great color for a child’s bedroom because it’s timeless—it’ll grow with them as their style changes.

Raise your hand if you live in jeans—you’re not alone. Take cues from this chic space and turn your bedroom into a tribute to your love for all things denim. Bring in various shades of rich blue, but be sure to work in some contrast pieces in warmer tones like rust and wood, too. And if you’re feeling sentimental, consider upcycling your Canadian tuxedo into a stunning work of art so you’ll always feel close to it.

Blue is the perfect colour for your bedroom. Able to contrast and complement other shades beautifully, it also has a deeply calming effect, as a colour that chimes with the sky and sea. Blue falls within a wide spectrum of shades, from the palest dusky blues that can create a coastal feel to deep inky blue-blacks that will cocoon you.

How you introduce blue into your decorating scheme can be guided by a few key factors. If you have high ceilings and/or large windows that will allow in plenty of light, you can dare to paint the walls with a dark blue, and add modern accent tones of pale pink or grey.

However, if you’re trying to create an airy feel – perhaps in a smaller space – a muted theme will suit better, based on a palette of aquamarine or dusky bluebell and white.

If blue isn’t for you, check our our bedroom colour schemes for more options

To add a rustic feel to your bedroom, beech, oak and walnut all contrast fantastically with shades of blue. Marry a wooden double bed and furniture with sky-blue bedlinen, add plump white pillows with a subtle blue stripe.

A beach-inspired makeover is also wonderfully effective and simple to achieve. Transform a simple divan bed with an oversized fabric-covered headboard with a nautical stripe, and dress the bed with complementing striped bedlinen.

1. Paint the ceiling night-sky blue

(Image credit: Future PLC/ Georgia Burns)

There’s no hard and fast rule that says your bedroom ceiling has to be white. Thinking of the ceiling as a fifth wall and painting it a deep blue instead will help you feel cocooned in a calming, restful sanctuary.

2. Choose a soothing blue that won’t fade

We all associate denim for its hardwearing and casual look, so it seems a fitting colour choice for a room geared towards relaxation. Layer indigo fabrics in soft linens and textured weaves to enhance the soft, slouchy look, and throw in some raw edges for good measure.

Also, make sure your walls are as hardwearing as your fabric choices. This Blue Gravel Easyclean matt emulsion, £25 for 2.5ltr, Crown , is 200 times tougher and more washable than a normal matt paint. You can wipe down walls quickly and easily to keep them free from dirt and spills, so they will appear as immaculate two years in as the day you painted them.

3. Roll with ocean blue in the bedroom on a seascape wallpaper

(Image credit: Future PLC/ Dan Duchars)

Drift off into a deep sleep surrounded by rolling waves thanks to a seascape wallpaper. The line-drawing print is enough to make a statement but gentle enough still to retain a tranquil vibe. Paired with driftwood furniture and dreamy blue fabrics, this bedroom scene is the perfect calming coast inspired retreat.

4. Paint the walls deep blue for an inspiring bedroom-cum-workspace

With a day bed for deep-thinking (or sleeping) and simple shelving for doing make-up (and business), a space like this can be dual-purpose and stylish. Deep blue walls and whimsical wallpaper make it calm but also inspire creativity.

The sofa-by-day, guest-bed-by-night is dressed in pretty tones of blush pink – lilac would also work as an accent colour here.

5. Co-ordinate your shelves in a blue bedroom

(Image credit: Future PLC/ Jo Henderson)

Perfect for a kids room, or a study, use calming blues in different depths of its palette on walls, shelving and even flooring. Use between three and five shades of blue, from the same colour family (you could go by the paint strip on a colour chart), for a totally balanced scheme.

6. Introduce coastal stripes in blues, greys and neutrals

(Image credit: Future PLC/ David Brittain)

Immerse yourself in a laid-back scheme influenced by the seashore, featuring fluid outlines and coastal colours such as pebble grey, marine blue and sand. A painterly striped wallpaper in soothing blues and greys echoes the calming feel of the waterside – perfect for creating a welcoming place of escape.

Mirror the wallpaper design with striped accessories. Stick to horizontal stripes and soft ombre effects. The painted floor echoes the deep blue sea, while textures like rustic driftwood, woman sisal and soft, crumpled linen build ambience.

7.

Mix deep turquoise with green accents

(Image credit: Future PLC/ Polly Eltes)

If you have a small bedroom don’t feel like you have to stick to pale blue shades. Take the plunge and create a room filled with gemstone colours such as turquoise and emerald.

To make sure this room is filled with plenty of natural light as well as sumptuous colours, keep the decadent wallpaper to one feature wall at the head of the bed. Paint the rest of the walls in a more neutral shade of blue and decorate with green and blue wall decorations.

8. Combine lupin and cornflower blues

(Image credit: Future PLC/ Dominic Blackmore)

For a gentler look in a bedroom scheme, team a deep indigo blue with purplish coneflower blues, adding textural woods and plenty of soft textiles for a comfortable, lived-in look. Add a vintage feel with a heritage print from William Morris or Liberty. Small bursts of lemon yellow will make an instant but not jarring impact.

9.

Go tropical with a mix of blue and green

(Image credit: Future PLC/ Simon Bevan)

So the song goes, ‘in the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight…’ so why not use a jungle print as a backdrop to your own rainforest retreat? The look combines leafy greens, indigo blues and burnt orange and features a clever trick – as wallpaper can be pricey, the bottom third of the wall has been painted in a complementary teal.

Increase the sense of luxury with an upholstered bedstead in a rich velvet fabric, then layer with co-ordinating linen bedding. Create the feeling of a luxe treehouse retreat by introducing rustic wood and woven rattan lampshades.

10. Use a deep all-American blue as the backdrop for a global look

(Image credit: Future PLC/ Dominic Blackmore)

Collect characterful, well-designed items of furniture and they’ll carry off any trend – like this bold, American-inspired look – with ease. A mellow grey-blue is the perfect relaxing backdrop that ties together the cool grey bed and the warm tan chest and orange accents.

A wall-mounts lamp saves surface space and lends the room a slightly industrial feel, as does the studded headboard and that fabulous multi-purpose trunk.

11. Combine chartreuse and steel blue for an energising look

(Image credit: Future PLC/ Dominic Blackmore)

Create a vibrant Mid-century scheme by combining abstract patterns with curvy furniture in a retro palette of chartreuse, steel blue and grey. Don’t be afraid to clash prints. if a full wall is too bold for you, frame a section of wallpaper instead.

If you use one room for multiple activities (for example study and sleep) consider using paint to distinguish between the areas.

12. Use blue almost as a neutral

(Image credit: Future PLC/ David Giles)

Maximalism is huge right now, but the clashing of prints and patterns can be daunting. You could play it safe by using a white backstop, but we think multicoloured fabrics have more impact against a deep blue like this one. You’ll also find it more calming against the chaos.

13. Style a serene sleep space in turquoise and coral

(Image credit: Future PLC/ Dominic Blackmore)

Go modern with fresh whites and bright accents that evoke the Caribbean or Miami Beach – you’ll wake up feeling like you’re on holiday all year round.

Use the height of the room to maximise bedside storage. Pick a pair of tall units to frame the bed and look for solutions with both cupboard space (for unpretty essentials) and open shelves for versatility. Insert smart boxes into cubbies for further organisation. A laminate floor with a rustic grain adds depth.

Pull things together by painting the walls and a piece of furniture in the same shade. Here, a coffee table at the foot of the bed is handy a place to put books, throws and decorative pillows just before you fall asleep.

14. Work around a duck egg feature wall

(Image credit: Future PLC/ Sussie Bell)

A pretty wallpaper was the starting point for this dreamy duck egg scheme. Accessories in shades of grey, biscuit and lavender give a more grown-up look than pinks. Mismatched lamps and bedside tables ensure the overall scheme isn’t too contrived.

15. Embrace a classic combo of white and midnight blue

(Image credit: Future PLC/ Dominic Blackmore)

Combine traditional tile patterns with fresh white walls and co-ordinating painted furniture. For this look, more is more. Layer Moroccan-style patterns, from geometric latticework to decorative Persian knots. The only rule is to stick to a strict colour palette.

Make a statement by painting a piece of furniture deep blue for a bold contrast against the blue-and-white patterned walls. For a classic, rustic look, leave the top unpainted but simply sand and oil it.

16. Paint focal a feature blue

(Image credit: Future PLC/ Jamie Mason)

If  you don’t fancy painting your whole room blue, and don’t even want a full feature wall, you can introduce the colour in a clever way – and paint your framework, like a fireplace or a door frame, this gorgeous, rich green.

17. Add blue with matching soft furnishings

(Image credit: Future PLC/ Polly Eltes)

If you’re looking to create a blue bedroom, don’t limit yourself to the walls introduce it into your room with blue patterned curtains, cushions and a blanket. In this room the walls have been white washed and paired with pristine white bedding. The matching blue patterned curtains and Venetian blind are left to make a soft statement.

Colors that go with navy blue – the best shades to combine with this moody hue

Looking for colors that go with navy blue? Blue still remains everyone’s favorite shade to decorate with, perhaps because it’s bold and can feel like a brave choice, but in some ways, it also acts like a neutral, easy to work with, suits any style and can be combined with so many other colors. And of all the blues, this versatility is no more apparent than in the ever-popular navy.

Dark and moody in some lights, and muted and soothing in others, it’s a chameleon of a shade, which does mean it can lend itself to almost every other color on the color wheel.

But how do you decide on the best combination for your space and style? We asked the color theory experts on their favorite colors to mix with navy blue, from zingy yellows to more subtle neutral tones. Find out what colors go with grey too, in our expert guide.

What colors go with navy blue?

‘Muted and moody, soothing and super versatile navy is one of those colors that pairs beautifully with so many others. ‘ explains Abigail Ahern . ‘From the classic creams and whites to my favorites earthy greens which I happen to think are one of the most foolproof combos ever. Just look to mother nature for reassurance there.  You can also pair navy with jewel tones like burnt orange and saffron yellows as well as blacks and let’s not forget golds. Gold and navy is such a well-loved pairing it literally enlivens everything!’

So whether you are after bold pairing or something more traditional, there’s a navy blue palette to suit…

1. Navy blue and blush pink

(Image credit: Soho Management London Ltd)

Blue and pink may have once had connotations with child’s bedrooms and nursery decor but in recent years, they have been rescued from their child-like origins and become one of the most popular combinations in the world of interiors.

Navy blue and blush pink are the classic hues to choose for the most sophisticated, grown-up look. The shades just work so well to balance each other out. The muted warm rosy tones of blush pink counteract any of the cooler tones of the deep blue and the navy prevents the pink from looking too sweet and sickly.

The key is to get the undertones right. The majority of blush pinks do have that blueish undertone, it’s what gives them their muted tone, but be sure to order samples of your paint or fabric and see how the two shades sit together.

2. Navy blue and crisp white

We couldn’t not have a crisp white right up there as one of the best colors to pair with navy. It’s the oldest, most tried combination and we will never tire of it. Classic, clean, and crisp it’s a mix that lends itself to any room and any style, but it works particularly well in kitchens for a look that’s bold and yet timeless. Consider opting for a two-tone look, mixing dark navy cabinets with a true white island.

It’s a lovely combination for a bedroom too. There’s something very hotel-esque opt for a deep soft matte navy blue all over the walls (and ceiling if you are feeling brave) combined with crisp white bedlinen and accents of white decor.

3. Navy blue and lilac

Lilac and lavender have been gaining quite a bit of traction recently, with trend forecasters predicted it’s likely to be the color of the year 2023. It’s a very calming hue, that much like pink does need something darker to ground it and give it a less saccharine quality. Hence why it works so well with navy blue. It has the same cool undertones but adds a softness to the darker shade and you can find lilac shades that are so subtle, they almost just act like a neutral.

‘I’ve always been lavender skeptical, perhaps because I’m insecure in my own masculinity? Well, I’m insecure no more! Lavender is the pastel du jour and I am obsessed with it.’ says Jonathan Adler . ‘Lavender feels dreamy and floaty and surreal. And lavender plays well with others – navy, chocolate brown, taupe, and white.’

4. Navy blue and mustard yellow

Like all dark colors, navy blue is the perfect backdrop for making bright bold hues really pop. A sunny mustard yellow stands out so vividly against navy blue walls even just a splash of it becomes the focal point in a room. It’s also a lovely shade for warming up a navy blue color scheme as this steely blue living room demonstrates – the dark walls and cool grey sofa need that accent of something warmer to make this space feel more inviting.

Most yellow tones work with navy blue, but mustard tends to be the go-to as it’s not as high-contrast as say a lemon yellow, and creates a slightly more muted combination that feels fun and fresh but it’s not overly dramatic.

5. Navy blue and light grey

Grey and navy blue may sound like there would be too many cool tones going on and it would risk making a space feel frosty. However, pick the right warm light grey and pair it with a beautifully soft midnight blue and the mix becomes one of the coziest and most cocooning combinations on the color wheel.

It’s a palette that works best in bedrooms and living rooms where you have plenty of opportunities to layer up textures and mix tactile fabrics. Be inspired by this blue bedroom idea and mix pale greys, whites, and deep navy blues by layering bedlinen in various textures.

6. Navy blue and rust orange

The color wheel already tells us this is a combination that’s meant to work. Complementary colors sit opposite each other so orange was made to pair with blue, the warmth balancing out the cool of the navy. And it doesn’t have to be a dramatic high-contrasting scheme (although we do love how tangerines really zing against navy), a deep rusty orange looks beautiful against the moodier tones of a dark blue.

‘There are plenty of complementary color options to choose from when it comes to navy. To create a contrast, look at colors such as browns, reds and oranges. Orange sits just next to yellow on the color wheel and works particularly well with navy as the bright tones of the orange make the dark blue appear even deeper.’ says the designer and head of creative at Swyft , Kelly Collins.

7. Navy blue and fresh greens

Blue and green should never be seen right? Wrong! Navy blue and a really fresh bright can be a really sophisticated, traditional pairing. The green really lifts the navy, giving it a much fresher and livelier look.

‘As long as you carefully pair the right tones, this color combination can be an unexpected, yet striking pairing. By using the same tonal color group, the two hues will complement one another.’ explains Helen Shaw, UK Director at Benjamin Moore .

‘When creating a contrasting palette, we recommend thinking about splitting the room into ratios. With the main color being 60% of the scheme, 30% the secondary, and 10% an accent. The accent color can help to break up an ultra-contrasting scheme and allows the look to be tied together. Rich and dramatic, or pale and interesting, you can look at all variants of these shades, from forest greens or navy to teal and aquamarine hues. These tones feel rich and dramatic and can add a sense of theatre to any room.

8. Navy blue and warm neutrals

For a more calming and subtle palette, mix navy blues with warm neutrals. Look for neutral shades that have pink or yellow undertones, it will bring out the warmer tones in the navy blue you pair it with and create a color scheme that feels calm and soothing, perfect for bedrooms or living rooms.

‘When bringing navy into the home I suggest mixing it with soft natural shades, such as Farrow & Ball’s Skimming Stone, with its clay-like hue, this is the perfect natural color to make navy pop. With dusty blues set to be big in 2022, bring in on-trend touches of pale blue to harmonize the room, creating a serene and tranquil living space where navy stands proud.’ explains interior designer Juliette Thomas .

9. Navy blue and rich lighter blues

(Image credit: Soho Management London Ltd)

Blue on blue might sound bland, but going all over with a single color always has a surprisingly striking effect. Trying pairing navy blue furniture, whether that be a sofa or a headboard, with slightly lighter rich blue walls for a calming and cocooning look. Add some much-needed warmth with gold accents as can be seen here with the mirror and the lighting.

Also, note how this isn’t actually a huge room, it looks very grand and elegant because of the high ceilings, but in terms of floor space, it’s a relatively small living room. Monochrome schemes are great for smaller spaces because they can blur the edges of the room so you don’t notice the dimensions, and the room isn’t broken up by blocks of different colors.

10. Navy blue and aubergine

Both being jewel-like tones, navy blue and deep rich purples are a sumptuous combination that would be perfect if you want to create a cozy but sophisticated living room or bedroom. Experiment with a deep aubergine on the walls and combine it with a statement piece of navy blue velvet furniture for a pairing that’s moody and dramatic but also so elegant and timeless. Add in some golden accents for extra glamour.

What is the best style for a dark blue bedroom?

Navy bedroom ideas – can you use other colors?

Do you like the idea of a navy bedroom? It doesn’t mean you cannot use other colors in the interior as well – on the contrary, it’s highly recommended. Dark blue and white or grey are the most popular combinations. In this case, it’s the mentioned timeless classic which is never outdated and always trendy. But it’s just one of the many possibilities.

A navy blue bedroom looks equally good with other colors like:

  • mustard,
  • blue,
  • pink,
  • green – various shades,
  • lavender.

Contrary to what some might think, a dark blue bedroom looks interesting with other intense colors like pink or lavender. Of course, just like in every other case, you have to keep everything in moderation and not overdo the color added to the interior. If you have any troubles with the design, you can always ask an interior design expert for help.

A dark blue bedroom – where can this idea work?

It is generally accepted that dark shades like navy blue are suitable for large interiors only, as they might make small rooms look even more cramped. Of course, there’s a lot of truth in this, but it doesn’t mean that you have to give up navy blue if your bedroom is small – especially if it’s your favourite color.

It’s important to use the right amount of the color. If the interior is small, combine the shade with other colors and use it only on one wall or in accessories. This way, you can create a fascinating design.

There’s no such problem in large interiors – here, you can use as much dark blue as you want – and even combine it with other dark colors. But, in this case, take care of good lighting – if possible – natural, or artificial in the form of a few light sources. It might be that when resting in your bedroom, you will feel better if it’s well illuminated. Make sure to take care of it earlier to avoid additional, costly renovations.

White and navy blue bedroom – a simple classic

A white and dark blue bedroom doesn’t have to be boring, as some might claim. Such an interior can be enriched with many interesting accessories. You can pick unusual versions of the following elements:

  • lamps,
  • flower vases,
  • pictures,
  • carpets,
  • bed linen and pillows.

A photo wallpaper installed on the wall over the bed might be a good solution. In this case, you can pick a design offered by catalogs, or choose something completely new. A decor element like this will make the interior unique.

A white and dark blue bedroom is a fantastic solution for those who love marine themes. They can let their imagination wild and create a perfect resting room for them.

A grey and navy blue bedroom – an idea for a peaceful interior

Many consider navy blue a color symbolizing order, while some claim grey has relaxing properties. Such a combination in a bedroom is exceptionally beneficial – especially for those who want peace and quiet, and aren’t fans of designer experiments.

One can use both colors in many ways, and they will look perfect almost every time. You can pick, for instance:

  • grey bedroom walls, wooden furniture and dark blue accessories,
  • navy blue walls and bed, and grey interior elements,
  • wooden furniture and bed, and a combination of grey and dark blue walls.

A grey and navy blue bedroom is extremely easy to design. One can easily say that it’s a perfect solution for those who want to design their interior themselves – without any help from experts. All they need to do is pick what they like the most and combine it together.

A dark blue bedroom and gold – glamour style

Glamour style is one of the most popular trends of the recent times. It’s not a surprise, then, that it also appears in bedrooms. A combination of dark blue and gold is a perfect example for how to easily add glamour style to home interiors. It’s classic and elegant, while flexible in terms of design at the same time.

A dark blue glamour bedroom uses a typical pattern. A navy blue base is supplemented with golden accessories. They can be the following items:

  • lamps,
  • decor placed on furniture,
  • furniture elements – armchair or bedside table legs.

As an interesting solution, you can lay one wall with tiles featuring golden elements or a mirror effect. Not only it looks beautiful, but also makes the interior look bigger. One is certain – a dark blue bedroom like this has to look “luxurious.”

A navy blue bedroom with a color – an interesting idea

A dark blue bedroom might be a too dark interior for some. In this case, you can break it using another color to brighten or enliven the room, and add some character to it.

If you are afraid of bold combinations, perhaps dusty rose or lavender is a good solution for you. They add elegance and peace to the interior, and at the same time they look fascinating. An upholstered bed in these colors looks great against a dark blue wall. But, you can also pick a navy blue foundation and add some pink and lavender elements to it. Light satin bed linen looks excellent on a dark blue upholstered bed.

Are you not afraid of courageous mixtures? Combine a dark blue base of the bedroom and various shades of yellow and green. Using these two colors is analogous to the two colors described above. But the result is entirely different – perfect for fun people who want a tint of extravagance in their bedroom.

Blue bedroom in different styles: combination of colors, furniture, lighting

In this article I will tell you how best to decorate the interior of the bedroom in blue tones, what colors to combine with, and what finish to choose.

The interior of the bedroom is selected carefully and thoughtfully, because it is in this room that a person rests and gains strength after a hard day’s work. Good rest and good mood depend on a well-chosen interior of the room. This bedroom is a popular design solution. This range is suitable for the bedroom. It is only important to combine it correctly in the interior.

Color in the interior of the bedroom

Blue color in the interior of the bedroom is quite appropriate in its different shades

A light palette is associated with freshness, airiness and weightlessness. This is the color of heavenly azure, which has a beneficial effect on a person. Light shades of this color are appropriate in a bedroom of any size.

A rich palette of cobalt makes the owners of the bedroom feel a sense of reliability and self-confidence. This range was preferred in the old days by the rulers of many countries. This shade emphasizes the status of the owners, saturates with energy, ideal for active and purposeful people.

The blue bedroom is a room where you can truly relax and unwind.

Designers do not recommend using cobalt in the design of a small room. A small bedroom in this tone looks gloomy and gloomy. But blue shades give the bedroom freshness.

Selection of shades and their combinations

In order for a rich color not to overload the room, it should be used in tandem with a light palette.

So, the shade of cobalt is combined with blue-white tones.

Bedroom design in blue and white

Saturated dark colors are appropriate to use in large rooms. They visually reduce the space and give the room coziness. To avoid gloom and coldness, the interior is diluted with bright accents. For this, an orange and peach palette is suitable.

For a bedroom in blue tones, the floor of a natural shade is very suitable.

Cheerful and courageous people will like a combination with bright yellow or green. Such an interior will not let you get bored. Refined and calm natures will not like this combination, for them it is better to combine it with a calm pastel range: pale pink, light green, muted yellow.

Blue bedroom with bright yellow rug

Combination with pearl gray will bring an atmosphere of sophistication and luxury into the room.

A strict dark shade, matched to the tone of textiles and furniture, contributes to a healthy sleep

Only light blue tones are used in a small bedroom, they visually enlarge the space and go well with delicate pastels.

The blue bedroom looks especially impressive.

Design styles

The gamma suits all styles. This color in accents is acceptable in all genres, from marine to modern.

Bedroom in a marine style Blue bedroom in a classic style Blue bedroom in an Empire style Bedroom in a loft style

However, designers do not recommend using blue as the main one for classic, country and retro.

Indigo is especially popular in minimalism, as well as high-tech and loft styles.

Finishing recommendations

If blue is chosen as the main tone for wall decoration, then it is better to give preference to wallpaper in delicate light shades or pastel colors. Painting the walls with water-based paint is also suitable. If in doubt about this option, use wallpaper for painting, you can change the color scheme on them at any time.

Intense dark blue decorates the walls only in a large bedroom. In a small room, the walls should be light pastel.

Bright blue walls – a modern and creative solution

The palette on the walls implies a white or beige ceiling (painted or stretched). In a room with any area, a gentle blue ceiling looks harmonious (you can stretch modular).

Most often in a blue room the walls and ceiling are the brightest.

A dark-colored ceiling is rarely appropriate and only in a large room with a high ceiling, where it will be associated with the starry sky.

A varied range looks better on stretch ceilings than on painted ones.

The interior flooring is in natural tones. It can be parquet, laminate, in extreme cases – linoleum as an economy option.

It is worth paying attention to natural wood furniture

If the main color of the bedroom is blue, then blue furniture and a bed with a high back will look very elegant in it. The surface of the furniture can be decorated with details. Optionally, it is permissible to install a canopy.

Blue requires a careful approach to lighting

A rich palette requires the right lighting. The color belongs to the cold color range, it is associated with morning freshness and night coolness, so soft and warm lighting is welcomed. Do not use bright fluorescent lamps, subdued lighting from economy bulbs is sufficient. Suspended ceiling involves the use of point suspended lighting fixtures, a regular ceiling (painted or whitewashed) needs a chandelier. Additionally, use wall sconces, floor lamps, table lamps.

In addition to the chandelier on the ceiling, you can also pick up sconces, floor lamps and table lamps

Tips and recommendations from experts

Experienced designers agree on one thing: the blue palette must be diluted with bright or pastel warm tones, white is ideal.

A bedroom in blue will suit both an adult and a child.

To revive the cold blue beauty, use fresh flowers in pots and vases. This technique will give the room a touch of freshness and summer warmth.

The emotional state of a person largely depends on the competent selection of the color palette of the interior. This or that color can create a cozy atmosphere, soothe, excite or set up for vigorous activity. According to psychologists, shades of blue have a particularly strong influence, causing associations with the sky, the water surface and the fresh sea breeze. Since many consider the blue color in the interior to be too cold and dark, it is not so often used in interior decoration. However, this opinion is erroneous: with the help of blue-bluish tones, you can equip the most comfortable space. But first, you should find out what colors they harmonize with, what rooms they are suitable for and how to avoid mistakes when developing an apartment design project.

The meaning and features of the blue color

From a psychological point of view, the blue color, which embodies natural motives, is the color of organization, reliability, slowness in decision-making. On the one hand, it relaxes and restores peace of mind, on the other hand, it helps to concentrate and tune in to a working mood. When designing a space, blue allows you to solve the following tasks:

  • Visually enlarge the room.
  • Create a feeling of comfort, calmness, silence.
  • Brighten up a room by using separate details (furniture, decor).

In styles such as modern or classic, shades of blue can be used as a base background. Also, experts believe that it weakens claustrophobia. For this reason, the blue color will be a good choice for finishing small rooms without windows (bathrooms, dressing rooms).

However, everything is good in moderation. It is believed that an excess of blue tones can cause melancholy, a feeling of despondency and anxiety. Therefore, in order to achieve harmony, you need to dilute the blue with other colors. There is one more rule. Light shades (azure, turquoise) are suitable for finishing large surfaces (ceiling, walls), and deep dark tones are suitable for accentuating individual details (curtains, accessories).

When developing a harmonious design, remember that blue is a cool color. For bright rooms with south-facing windows, it will be an ideal choice. If there is little light and sun in the room, a combination of blue with dark tones would be more appropriate, or you can stop at atypical shades of blue.

Shades of blue and its combination with other colors

Many shades of basic blue are used in the design of living spaces. These shades differ significantly depending on their style:

  1. Pure blue looks rich, creates a feeling of coolness in the heat. A room decorated in such colors looks aristocratic and noble. Examples of the use of pure blue shades are found in both oriental and classic European interiors. Americans are not indifferent to pure blue. For example, in the US, the following color palette is often found: a beige main background and bright blue details.
  2. Blue-green is the traditional color of southern landscapes. This option can be advised to people who want to equip a house in a Mediterranean, classic, colonial style. As a result, a strict and at the same time cheerful color scheme is created – what you need for a pleasant stay. To beat the interior, it is worth using blue-green shades pointwise (for example, in the living room, lounge area or library).
  3. Light blue – the color of peace, comfort, stability. It does not tire the psyche, and therefore can be safely used, for example, in bedrooms or children’s rooms. Of course, the interior, made in light blue tones, does not look very status, but for a good rest there is no better option.
  4. Grey-blue. Gray-blue shades, devoid of sharp contrasts, are typical of the Provence and French Romantic styles. They pacify, relieve feelings of anxiety, create an atmosphere of comfort and silence. However, these tones are commonly used in medical facilities. Therefore, in order to avoid dubious associations, you should not overdo it with them. It is best to dilute the color palette with warm and eye-pleasing shades: beige, pistachio.

The next important issue is the combination of blue with other colors. So, a combination of blue and white tones is considered a win-win option. The room decorated in this way looks spacious, bright, visually light. This union is ideal for small spaces. To create a marine style, it is not necessary to make repairs: you can refresh the room with decorative pillows, gzhel, ceramics with white and blue painting.

Perfectly harmonizes with blue and yellow. Such a combination will surely appeal to extraordinary people who are not indifferent to original things. The combination of lemon and cornflower blue tones looks the best: such juicy shades are indispensable when arranging country-style apartments.

Blue looks much more extravagant in combination with red. How to relax in such a room will not work, but such a color palette invigorates and stimulates new achievements. It can be recommended for arranging study rooms and playrooms, but in the latter case, blue shades should prevail.

The mix of blue and light blue is also very popular. This combination calms the nervous system, gives a sense of security and promotes normal sleep. In addition, it has some therapeutic effect, lowering blood pressure. So sleeping in a room decorated in blue and blue tones will be very comfortable.

The tandem of blue and black is rather specific. Indeed, for many it may seem boring and even mournful. However, in spacious bright rooms, such a combination looks very interesting. You can dilute gloomy tones with a small amount of green, orange or yellow (sofa cushions, ceramics, lamps).

Common Mistakes in Using Blue

Since interior designers are expensive, most people try to make their homes cozy on their own. But not everyone succeeds in competently approaching the matter, and this is especially true for the blue color, which must be used carefully. Here are the most common mistakes:

  • Too much blue. As the main color, this color is used infrequently. This is mainly an art deco style, where large blocks of blue tones predominate. However, shades for art deco must be chosen carefully, otherwise the room will look cold and uncomfortable.
  • Combination of blue and brown. These colors do not harmonize very well, although the addition of small details of brown or coffee shades is allowed.
  • Combination of many colors. The interior, which, in addition to blue, involves several bright colors (red, yellow), looks clumsy. Such a combination tires the eyes and psyche, and the person will feel uncomfortable. Therefore, such annoying options are best avoided.

There is one more nuance. Floors in rooms made in blue tones should be light. Avoid laying dark brown laminate or black tiles.

Blue color in the interior of different rooms

Now it’s time to figure out how appropriate it is to decorate the interior in blue colors in different rooms. Here’s what the designers think about it.

Kitchen

Blue fronts of kitchen sets are found in many Russian apartments. The kitchen, furnished with blue furniture, looks bright, fashionable, stylish. An interesting option is also colored household appliances (for example, a blue microwave or refrigerator), as well as additional details in blue:

  1. Kitchen textiles.
  2. Pots, ceramic dishes.
  3. Lovely trinkets to make the kitchen feel cozy.

To create a comfortable environment, blue should be diluted with other shades. The favorite in this respect should be called white. So, lovers of Russian folk motifs can decorate the kitchen in the Gzhel style. To do this, you can choose the appropriate ceramic tiles or simply paint the walls white.

Buying blue kitchen furniture also has its own characteristics. It is better to give preference to matte facades: glossy cabinets often look cheap. The most successful choice would be a set of a noble blue hue with well-finished edges and hidden fittings.

Living room

Blue tones have taken root in living rooms so well that they are used in a variety of stylistic directions: modern style, minimalism, classic, high-tech. If desired, the owners can experiment with the decor. For example, if you want to create an informal atmosphere, you should choose a light gray background as a basis and arrange blue furniture: cabinets, armchairs. A good addition to such a composition will be posters in the style of pop art.

If you want to emphasize the high social status of the owners, you can stop at a combination of deep blue hues with silver and gold. The main thing is not to overdo it, because the abundance of “expensive” flowers will tire the eye. As for the walls finished with blue wallpaper or panels, they will be perfectly combined with solid wood furniture.

Children’s room

The blue color is also suitable for decorating children’s rooms. Deep blue, azure and other shades soothe the child, relieve feelings of anxiety when waking up. A competent combination of blue with other shades (for example, beige) will allow you to zone the space, dividing the room into a place to relax and a corner for games.

Of course, most often boys’ rooms are decorated in blue tones. They can be decorated thematically, in a pirate or marine style. This will not require large expenses: it is enough to purchase suitable photo wallpapers and decor elements. For the arrangement of girls’ rooms, they usually choose more neutral and eye-pleasing tones (for example, pale blue). Nautical prints in the rooms for little princesses also look appropriate.

Bedroom

Blue is the best solution for bedrooms in Provence style. It is undesirable to use dark blue tones in places for night rest – the atmosphere should be as relaxing as possible. It is better to dwell on light blue and bluish shades that soothe and lull. To play with the atmosphere, you can paint one of the walls with blue paint: the interior will acquire some depth. Complement it with beautiful blue and white curtains, bedspreads and linens.

Neutral shades are recommended as flooring for blue bedrooms: wooden parquet, light beige laminate. Particular attention should be paid to the decoration of the ceiling. So, a ceiling with an imitation of the starry sky and backlighting will help to relax perfectly. Children in such an environment fall asleep faster, and adults enjoy the romantic atmosphere.

In cases where the family budget is not designed for such expenses, you can paint the ceiling with light blue paint or paste over it with wallpaper on which clouds are painted. It is surprisingly easy to breathe in such airy interiors. Even if the room has not been wet cleaned for a long time, it will look cleaner.

Bathroom

Since bathrooms in Russian apartments do not differ in large sizes, moderation should be observed when using blue in the decoration. So, blue tiles can lay out the floor or one of the walls. The blue pattern on the white tile also looks original. Blue plumbing (sinks, toilets) is an option for an amateur, but an acrylic insert in a sea-green bathtub is what you need. As a finishing touch, hang fluffy blue towels and arrange accessories: glasses for toothbrushes, soap dispensers.

Hallway

The blue color looks good in the hallway too. Here, much depends on its area. If the hallway is small, the use of dark blue tones will have to be abandoned; they are out of place in compact enclosed spaces. But in the spacious and well-lit hallways, dark blue looks quite harmonious.

Thus, the blue color can be called one of the most successful interior design. It has a beneficial effect on the psyche, relieves stress, helps to relax the eyes. If you follow the measure, with the help of the blue color you will be able to equip a cozy comfortable home that guests will admire.

Finishes

The standard use of blue in the interior is wall decoration. This color makes spacious rooms more comfortable. In a small bedroom, a dark accent wall adds depth, expanding or narrowing the room – it all depends on the area of \u200b\u200bapplication. For decoration, wallpaper, paint, decorative plaster or wood panels are used.

Pictured is a bedroom with a lavender accent wall.

The blue color on the floor and ceiling is guaranteed to make the room bright and distinctive. It can unite the walls and ceiling or set off the top of the bedroom. An irregularly shaped room that is only partially painted looks especially impressive: for example, an attic with a sloping roof.

Pictured is a cornflower blue ceiling with wooden slats that follows the headboard wall.

As for the flooring, the most popular flooring for a colored bedroom is dark wood laminate or parquet, which adds solidity and solidity to the environment. The blue floor is less common, as it looks very eccentric. To create it, carpet is usually used.

Selection of furniture and textiles

In modern interiors, the arrangement of white furniture on a blue background, which not only looks stylish, but also lightens the atmosphere, is a winning one. A bedroom with a brown suite creates the effect of a cozy and lived-in room. Often these three shades are successfully combined in a marine style.

An excellent solution would be to use blue furniture against an identical background: a wardrobe painted in the same color as the walls gives an interesting effect, as if dissolving into the surroundings. Contrasting furniture gives the opposite result: for example, a red and blue combination of an armchair or decor against a cornflower blue wall.

The photo shows a spacious bedroom in a marine style with blue and transparent furniture.

The purpose of textiles in the blue bedroom is to dilute the base and give the interior coziness and texture. A good solution would be to decorate windows with tulle, light curtains or blinds. If blue is an accent in the bedroom, pillows and curtains of the same color will come in handy here. Covers with a geometric pattern look great, as well as colored elements: yellow or orange sofa upholstery, dusty pink or silver pillows.

In the photo, the head of the bed is combined with pillows and a bedspread, and the blue carpet seems to reflect the ceiling of the same color.

Elements of emerald, mustard or orange shades look great in combination with blue furnishings.

Furniture in the interior of a blue bedroom

The main thing in the interior of any bedroom is comfortable and stylish furniture. The bed occupies a central place in the design of the bedroom and its choice should be given special attention. The dimensions and shape of the bed should be selected based on the area of \u200b\u200bthe room itself. If the scale allows, you should give preference to a large bed in the center of the room, which will be the main element of the entire interior. For small bedrooms, you should choose a modular design that easily transforms into a sofa or wardrobe. An excellent choice would be a dark model with light bedding. It is practical and so the focus of the entire bedroom will remain on the bed.

Furniture for a blue bedroom can also include a bedside table and a wardrobe or chest of drawers for things. Women can add a dressing table and a couple of armchairs. All this should be in harmony with each other and correspond to the overall style of the blue bedroom. The blue color in the interior of the bedroom allows you to combine different shades of blue with each other, diluting it with lighter gray, beige or white.

Examples of lighting and decor

When choosing a shade of blue for the bedroom, it is worth considering that the room will look different in natural light than in artificial light. Cold tones are best diluted with warm light by installing a chandelier or wall lamps with incandescent lamps.

Pictured is a classic blue room lit by a warm glow.

In a modern style, spotlights in a stretch ceiling will be appropriate, and in pompous baroque – crystal chandeliers and sconces with floor lamps. Dark rooms decorated with garlands or stylized as a starry sky look picturesque and romantic.

Pictured is an artsy baroque bedroom in lavender hues.

Wallpaper for the bedroom in blue tones

For such an interior, plain wallpaper in a light shade is best suited. If you want to make the bedroom visually smaller, you can choose a shade darker, but here it is important not to miscalculate and not overdo it. For lovers of interesting designs, neutral wallpapers with contrasting blue accents are suitable. This will freshen up the room and add playfulness. Another idea of the original wall decoration is a panel of wallpapers of different shades and textures. But here you need to be very careful not to make the walls lurid and flashy. Blue walls in the bedroom will also look advantageous if you choose the right shade.

Choosing wallpaper for the bedroom in blue tones with stripes, you can easily create a marine style. Wooden accents in the form of shelves or picture frames will help to fix the effect.

Photo of striped wallpaper in a classic bedroom in blue tones: cdn.shopify

The ceiling is best decorated in a classic white version or a neutral light gray tone. If you choose a stretch ceiling, you can achieve a mirror effect and even more visual expansion of the room. Otherwise, it all depends on the size of the room and preferences.

A dark floor finish will look harmonious. Ideally, carpet or laminate is a couple of tones darker than the walls. If you decorate everything in one shade, you risk making the room cold and uncomfortable. At the same time, a light floor with dark furniture will look great, so it all depends on the final result.

Pictured is a nautical-themed teen bedroom with wide white and blue stripes on the walls.

To make the rest room expressive, you can decorate the headboard with watercolors, floral prints, photo wallpapers or frescoes, and also paint only half of the wall in blue: the bottom or the top.

The photo shows an unusual room with artistic painting, the palette of which echoes the carpet on the floor.

Interior styles

An elegant neoclassical interior is a balance of expensive aesthetic accessories and textured finishes. The blue color in such a bedroom should not be intrusive: wallpaper with patterns, colored textiles and furniture are used for this.

In a laconic Scandinavian interior, indigo is most often seen – and only on an accent wall. It goes well with white furnishings and wooden elements.

Blue is not characteristic of the loft direction, but a stunning combination of rich cornflower blue details and orange bricks make the atmosphere of a rough industrial style bright and memorable.

The photo shows a neoclassical bedroom with aquamarine wallpaper with silver ornaments.

Summer Mediterranean style bedroom is a combination of wood, all kinds of patterns and shades of the seascape. The walls, finished with blue plaster, become the basis for recreating the holiday mood.

Hi-tech sleeping room is the complete opposite of the previous approach. High-tech appliances, metal elements and glass help to support this direction, and the blue tint is achieved due to the abundance of built-in lighting.

Dark colors are rarely used in the minimalist style, so the bedroom in muted blue colors looks unusual, but does not lose its conciseness. The palette here is monotonous, but this does not make the monochrome room any less attractive.

Combination with other colors

It is worth remembering that blue is a cold color, so to shade it you need to choose warm tones – milky, beige, cream, sand, gray-ash, yellow.

The abundance of blue in the interior of the bedroom is softened by a well-chosen shade of calm brown, and a bright yellow carpet on the floor, echoing the furniture, enlivens the calm atmosphere

A very stylish (albeit somewhat austere) interior in silver-blue will look: this combination is especially suitable for high-tech interiors, where other glossy surfaces are preferable.

Snow-white ceiling and floor, shaded by blue walls – this is the severity of hi-tech, and photo wallpapers serve as decoration, refreshing the interior. This color scheme gives a feeling of coolness on a summer day, and with proper lighting it will envelop an atmosphere of warmth in cold weather.

In addition, the combination of blue and white solves the problem with small bedrooms: white will visually enlarge the room, and blue will refresh it.

White is better to use in the decoration of the ceiling and walls – to visually enlarge the room, and blue – for furniture and textiles , blue with beige – teenage boys will appreciate the design. Especially if this combination is in wall decoration.

Blue in textiles echoes lamps, and orange trim looks good in contrast with blue

Tip: if you want a change of mood depending on the time of day, you can use aquamarine color for decoration – it is perceived differently in daylight and artificial lighting.

In addition, since blue is considered a calming color, decorating an interior with one of its shades will create the right relaxing atmosphere.

The combination of pistachio or olive with aquamarine in the interior looks very stylish

Note: blue bedrooms are suitable for people suffering from insomnia, poor sleep, as this color has a positive effect on perception.

Bedrooms in shades of blue are suitable for styles such as:

  1. Hi-tech cool blue gloss, smooth surfaces of cool blue or turquoise contribute to a stylish modern design.
  2. Classic – the luxury and splendor of the classics, contained in each element of the interior, allow you to immediately determine the wealth and taste of the owner of the bedroom.
  3. Nautical – of course, aquamarine and turquoise seem to be designed specifically for the nautical style. The design of rooms in the form of cabins will especially appeal to boys who dream of long journeys and battles with pirates.
  4. Modern – just like classic, this style welcomes some restraint in interior design, bordering on luxury. Art Nouveau bedrooms are one of the most popular, and modern bedrooms decorated in blue tones will arouse admiration for their bold design.
  5. Provence – this style of interior will save even a simple decor. Modesty combined with white and blue (the same Gzhel painting) attracts you, allowing you to plunge headlong into the atmosphere of rural themes.

Blue and gold will also be a good color combination, as a reminder of the luxurious palace bedrooms.

Intricate patterns on the wallpaper, blue and gold textiles and furniture with frilly legs make it easy to feel like royalty in such an environment!

Tip: when choosing color combinations, it is recommended to pay more attention to wall and ceiling finishes and decorations than to the color of the flooring. It is desirable to leave the color of the floor neutral, without accents.

The combination of blue with brown or black will not be entirely successful – here it is important not to overdo it in choosing shades.

Blue curtains and dark finishes, black textiles in contrast with white cabinets and a dedicated bedside area – all selected shades should be saturated

However, brown is the color of wood and blue is the color of water. Together, this combination is the personification of nature, which can be expressed by combining any shade of blue and natural wood – oak, walnut, teak. It is important that brown is rich, deep – but this only applies to small bedrooms, where muted shades do not create a gloomy atmosphere.

Despite the saturation of all the colors that make up the interior, the bedroom does not look gloomy thanks to the white ceiling and milky white textiles

Another component of the “natural” interior is green and its shades. At the same time, green should be calm, muted – such a combination of green and blue in the interior is preferable for people who come home just to rest. The design of the bedroom in blue-green color does not irritate, does not tire, has a beneficial effect on sleep, and relaxes.

For those who prefer a warm atmosphere with home comfort, you can choose soft shades of blue – turquoise, warm blue, muted blue. And combine them with the same milky white, cream, pale beige.

Separate union – contrasting colors. These include red and blue. This is a rather aggressive combination of colors, especially in the bedroom, where it is planned to equip a separate workplace.

For balance, you can add white to the interior – it will balance the effect of both shades order in thought.

Note: if you want to decorate the bedroom in red and blue tones, then it is undesirable to choose colors in equal quantities – one of these shades should dominate, and the second should dilute, complement the interior.

For active people (mainly young people or teenagers) you can use the combination of blue with orange or yellow. Again, it is important not to overdo it with the saturation of both tones and their contrasts. As a rule, blue-orange interiors are used for sports facilities – so let the youth apply a similar color scheme to their bedrooms in a minimalist style.

In addition to children’s rooms, blue-yellow and blue-orange interiors are chosen by people who prefer Mediterranean-style bedrooms, as this color combination is reminiscent of a sandy beach, nature and the tropics.

If we consider blue-yellow from a design point of view, then there should be more blue in the interior and decoration – since such a contrast can irritate no worse than blue-red.

There are equal parts of blue and yellow — this combination is diluted with pastel tones

Another interesting combination is blue and black in the interior. Despite centuries of belief that black is a symbol of melancholy and gloom, it is this color scheme that will emphasize a certain style.

Interior classics are blue textiles with black furniture, and you can dilute the interior with a light gray or white palette.

An interior decorated in such colors (and such a proportion) will emphasize the taste of the owner of the bedroom, give the room elegance and sophistication.

Restraint is also evident in the finishes: the combination of two colors completes the floor in a neutral shade

Alternating stripes is one of the concepts of this design; dark tones in an orderly pattern do not have a pressing effect

Another version of the classic bedroom: furniture and a bedspread with a headboard decorated with textiles create an image of real royal chambers

Despite the abundance of pastel colors, it is clear that the dominant color is blue, thanks to textiles (curtains, pillow covers) and an insert in the wall decoration

Features of blue color in the bedroom interior

The color scheme of the room affects the mood of a person. In this case, preferences are given to your favorite colors, in most cases the choice falls on blue. What are its benefits?

  1. Light shades of blue set a person up for positive friendships;
  2. The head quickly assimilates the information received during the day;
  3. Stress is relieved, heart rate slows down and blood pressure returns to normal;
  4. Blue is the color of harmony and tranquility.

Tips for choosing a shade

Nature has created that all colors have their own shades, blue is no exception. Of these, you should choose just one so that it not only fits into the design, but also leaves a pleasant feeling. Let’s talk about a few shades that designers most often use.

Indigo

A rich and deep tone of cold blue is ideal for a modern bedroom. Most often, this color is used for the ceiling, decorating it with an LED strip, creating the effect of a starry sky.

Blue

The classic shade is great for well-lit rooms. In most cases, the room is decorated in a marine style. Do not neglect the advice of designers and combine the blue color with warm shades, while the room will become much more comfortable and calmer.

Blue

Provence-style rooms are a combination of light and delicate shades, the color of wind and sky, dreams and tranquility. At the same time, such a simple style, unlike dark colors, figuratively expands the space. Usually blue is chosen for the bedroom in which the boy will sleep, but girls are no exception.

Combinations with other colors

You can diversify the blue color with white, brown, silver, green, pink and yellow colors. There is no limit to experiments in this case.

The blue and white bedroom looks fresh and clean. After all, a white tint significantly reduces the gloom of a dark color. Start with the ceiling, which will slightly raise the height of the room. Designers use one interesting trick to increase the room and in length.

One of the four walls will also be completely white, but not the wall where the bed will stand, because before going to bed the owner will see dark walls that remind him of a hospital.

The gray blue bedroom is suitable for both a young man and a girl. The room is filled with the energy of protection and peaceful sleep. Gray curtains or interior items will help to emphasize the status of male presence.

There are nuances with brown. Gloomy dark blue bedrooms will lead melancholic people into a deep depression. This does not mean that brown can now be set aside. For energetic people, this is not a hindrance. They wake up in a brown-and-blue bedroom cheerful, apathy does not threaten them.

Red is present in nautical decor, it is chosen for children, but do not be too zealous with its introduction, because if you overdo it with color, it will look like spots or blots from children’s tricks.

Bright colors look unusual in combination with blue, the household will have to get used to this design, but it looks specific. Even if someone says that yellow or green does not go well with a blue bedroom, he is mistaken. Positive people will find use even for orange, and at the same time, the bedroom will not lose its direct properties.

Choice of furniture

What kind of room without furniture, because only with the right furnishings the interior will become cozy enough. Furniture primarily dilutes the dark base of the room. Lovers of modern style choose a blue bedroom with white furniture. You will have to face the fact that stains will be visible on a white sofa if you handle it carelessly.

Do not neglect the introduction of glass, wood and metal into the interior. The more mirrors in the room, the larger and brighter it will look.

Lighting

The light in the room should be not only natural but also artificial. At the same time, you can use not only the main chandelier on the ceiling, but also various lamps, spotlights, sconces and floor lamps. Properly selected light sources will comfortably combine with the hobby of the inhabitants of the bedroom. For those who like to read a book before going to bed, a sconce hung over the bed is suitable. Additional details will benefit both adults and kids.

For a person, sleep plays an important role; the coming day depends on it. The more pleasant it is to relax and sleep in a room, the more energetic and positive a person will be. The wrong situation in the bedroom will lead to deep depression and irritability. The blue interior of the bedroom is ideal for positive emotions and easy awakening after sleep. It’s nice to be back where you feel comfortable.

Dark blue color in the interior.

How to use the blue color in the interior and get the most out of it. Blue color in the interior

The blue color in the interior looks fresh and peaceful. But be careful: if you overdo it with blue, the room will become too cold, like the halls of the Snow Queen. This can only be afforded if the room faces south with wide windows and is flooded with bright sunlight all day. Well, since most apartments cannot boast of excessive insolation, the Motherhood portal offers blue color lovers to combine it with warmer shades. What exactly? That’s what we’ll talk about.

An excess of dark blue in the interior evokes an association with a cinema. A perfectly acceptable option for a living room or bedroom, but for a living room – gloomy. If you stop at an abundance of ultramarine, then at least dilute it with large white details and light parquet.

In this case, the bold designer paired a blue sofa with smooth walls in the same color. In contrast, dark brown parquet and other details to match the wood work. The huge expanse of a dark blue wall is broken by the light background of the poster. The size of the window is also important – from floor to ceiling.

Most likely, great sea lovers live in this interior. The whole room is designed in blue and blue tones and is almost devoid of contrasting details.

White and gray colors can make the blue scale lighter and more airy, but since they themselves are neutral, they contribute to the image of snow and ice. The interior as a whole looks very cold, despite the presence of a fireplace.

The combination of white and blue fills the room with air and visually expands the space. But, deciding on white furniture, it should be understood that it will require frequent and thorough cleaning.

The sofa may be blue, but with an abundance of white, the interior will still look light and airy.

A huge blue sofa has become a compositional center in this room. It doesn’t even need supporting blue details.

The most win-win, but at the same time quite modern and unhackneyed move is a combination of a dark blue sofa with an oak parquet floor and sand-colored walls. A moderately warm gamma neutralizes the cold blue, creating a harmonious combination. The blue pattern on the curtains and the blue glass vase complete it gracefully.

Another example of the combination of blue sofas with sandy walls. There was even a place for a mahogany table, which looks quite appropriate. But the vases in the niche, unfortunately, did not match the tone of the upholstered furniture.

A turquoise blue sofa dominates this light beige living room with dignity.

The wall behind the blue sofa can also be gray. In this case, it does not look cold thanks to the blinds and the table to match the birch.

This bedroom is a fun example of how the designer decided to place an iceberg in the middle of a warm room. The sparkling plush headboard and the shattered crystal painting make for a complete impression. One can only guess how such an idea affected the intimate life of the owners.

This hotel room uses the same technique suggested by nature itself – a combination of blue and sand colors.

The number of ship parts depends only on the age of its inhabitant and the financial capabilities of his parents.

Another example of a blue sofa that looks great in a white and beige living room, even without the supporting blue pieces.

The minimalistic interior is solved in literally three colors – white, black and blue. A little warmth is added by bleached oak parquet.

The living room is decorated in blue and white with dark wood and does not look cold only thanks to the bright sunlight pouring in from the huge windows.

A great example of using the same shades (chocolate and turquoise) in several interior items: sofa, carpet, wallpaper and paintings. Such a decision requires a lot of patience and precision in the selection of elements that exactly match the color and style.

The blue sofa can be combined with shades of lemon and light green, but in small proportions. The main thing here is not to overdo it.

Bright yellow combined with blue looks flashy and cheerful. Only very brave people are capable of such a decision.

Restrained shades of yellow look more relaxed.

Blue goes well not only with light, but also with dark shades of wood. It adds much-needed warmth to the interior.

In the absence of natural wood, it may well be replaced by the noble brown color of the walls. And matching pillows will support the theme.

The blue sofa also goes well with coffee brown walls.

Another blue and brown interior. In this case, the blue sofa is designed to dilute the overly warm interior, which without it would look somewhat monotonous.

As you can see, the combination of blue with coffee is quite popular, but it is even more fashionable to combine turquoise with chocolate.

This interior looks very fresh and modern. The eco-friendly combination of colors contributes to the creation of a calm, but at the same time, cheerful mood.

You can use trendy brown wood furniture in combination with blue walls, carpet and bedspread. But be careful: the shades must match exactly!

The brown sofa goes well with the blue pouffe and cushions.

Such an interior is not very difficult to create: the furniture store will help you pick up pillows for the sofa, all that remains is to paint the wall a slightly lighter blue color and add a few details to the wall.

Blue is a color loved by many, creating a feeling of infinity of the sea and sky. Shades of blue are associated with harmony and trust, with something intangible and intangible. This color helps to calm down and focus, sets up deep reflections, therefore it is especially good for the work area, but, nevertheless, it is suitable for absolutely all rooms: bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom, nursery . .. The blue color offers many possibilities: it can make up the main palette of the interior, and can be combined with other – both bright and muted – colors. Blue has many shades, from a light sea-green to an almost black navy blue, and therefore suits completely different styles of decoration – from classic to modern, from minimalism to baroque luxury. What should be the interior of the blue room? How is blue combined with other colors in the interior? In our photos you will find rooms with individual accents of blue and rooms completely decorated in shades of blue. Happy viewing!

Silence, lightness, height, coolness, freshness, depth, spaciousness… Here is an incomplete list of abstractions associated with blue.

In Christianity, blue is the emblem of spirituality, the companion of the Mother of God; in Islam – the color of holiness, mystical contemplation.

Oriental teachings interpret blue color as a sign of harmony, sensuality, tenderness. According to Feng Shui, it symbolizes the feminine and is associated with care, maternal participation.

Modern man is not indifferent to the bright blue color also because it is identified with holidays, beaches, resorts… Other attributes of a happy, carefree life.
However, like any other color, blue can also cause unpleasant emotions. Too dark tones will be associated with some gloomy secret, cause anxiety, unaccountable anxiety …

Stylistics and blue color

The traditional blue color scheme interacts with many: from to and .
For example, this color will not do without: empire, rococo, art nouveau and other luxurious styles; It is not for nothing that many shades of blue have telling names: palace, precious, royal, imperial…

Loft, hi-tech and minimalism also welcome blue, especially its shades such as slate, deep cobalt or blue with a metallic sheen.
And it’s absolutely impossible without blue when it comes to a house in Greek, Roman, Arabic and Egyptian styles. Or when the dwelling is made out in Russian, based on.

Blue color and features of the room

Of course, you remember the axiom that the dark color visually “compresses” the space, reducing the dwelling. Now, forget about it. Contrary to all the rules and prejudices, the blue color does not reduce the room. Such is its nature: the blue walls seem to expand the room, and the blue top creates the illusion of the evening sky, visually raising the ceiling.

However, it is worth remembering that blue “cools”, fills the monastery with “morning freshness”. Therefore, it will best fit into compact rooms, the windows of which are facing the sun.

Tip
.
Do not use blue on too large surfaces if you do not want your home to look emphasized – official and even “official”.

Blue color from the threshold to the kitchen

Interspersed with bright blue color will enliven the interior of any room, give expression and color. For example:
. If it is light, rich shades of blue, cornflower blue or cobalt will do. If there is not enough light, azure or ultramarine tones will help out.

In order not to overload the hallway with one color, we recommend painting only one wall in moderate blue, hanging a mirror opposite: in this way, the room will immediately “sound out” in breadth, filled with fresh ether.
And if you want to add height, use blue on the ceiling.
And you can also combine several shades of blue, for example, blue, a chest of drawers against the background of a pearl blue wall will look grand and create a sense of perspective.

Board
.
Particularly relevant in recent times is such a shade of blue as Tiffany. This amazingly beautiful tone, close to turquoise and blue, got its name thanks to the jewelry company, which chose it as its talisman. Armchairs, bookcases, light tables, Tiffany-colored textiles diluted with silvery or sandy shades are the hallmark of houses where material well-being is intertwined with subtlety of manners and sophistication of taste.

The ability of blue to add space can play a not very good joke if the room is already large. In this case, blue tones will make it faceless, monotonous.
It is important to consider both the location of windows and the amount of natural light. If there is not much of it, the windows are facing north, the abundance of blue will give the living room gloominess and aloofness.

Actually, in order to beautifully and brightly decorate the interior of the main room of the house, soft pieces of furniture are enough: a large sofa, armchairs or cornflower blue ottomans. And if you add white curtains to this ensemble, a couple of sea shells on a shelf and a landscape a la Aivazovsky, you get not just a blue, but a “sea” living room!

– the best option. A blue lamp, curtains, chair upholstery will relieve eye strain, invigorate and promote productive intellectual activity.

The blue color perfectly calms the nerves, preparing for a healthy, quality sleep. In addition, if the walls of the bedroom are painted in a smoky sapphire color, they seem to dissolve, enveloping the bed in a “real” night haze. This charming effect can be enhanced with the help of stretch ceilings imitating the starry sky.

With the help of juicy strokes of cheerful blue color (by the way, this is not an epithet, but the official name of one of the shades), they often create a playful children’s room with a nautical theme. Or even in a pirate one – if they add a poster with a map of the “treasure island”, and hang a canopy in the form of a sail over the bed.
As you know, a children’s room should combine a play area and a recreation area. The advantage of blue is that it can fulfill both roles. In the play part of the room, blue, along with other primary colors, will stimulate the development of the child, encourage him to be creative, and in the relaxation area, lull and lull him to sleep.

Blue is definitely the king here, even the god Neptune. This is not forgotten by the names of many shades of blue: the color of Niagara, the color of the Bay of Biscay, the Adriatic, the Caribbean, the Aegean, the Danube, the Mediterranean, the Pacific …
– Choose any!

The bathroom can also be decorated in an adventurous marine spirit: hang curtains and towels with dolphins and seahorses, attach a mirror in a frame stylized as a steering wheel, place a rug in the form of a starfish on the floor … And if you add juicy spots of yellow and orange to blue or green (dispensers, holders, vinyl stickers) – you get a beach or tropical style. Such an environment will contribute to a special relaxation – complete and blissful …

Blue is said to suppress appetite. But science does not know the facts when a person refused his favorite dish just because he dined in a blue dining room. But the presence of cornflower blue, bellflower, turquoise-blue fragments makes the kitchen more “airy” and, oddly enough, cleaner in appearance.

Blue, or better turquoise, in the kitchen can be napkins, cushions on chairs, vases, ceramic dishes and bowls, as well as furniture fronts or an “apron” in the cooking area. In such an environment, a meal will resemble a picnic in the fresh, sea air.

Combinations of blue in the home interior

A classic of the genre – a combination of blue with shades of brown. These tones are perfect for each other: both are natural, unobtrusive, soothing.

The most popular and pleasing to the eye are the following duets:

  • blue and white – enhance the atmosphere of lightness, neatness and freshness;
  • blue and mint green – will give the room a “landscape”, bring a sense of harmony and fullness of being;
  • blue and yellow – an excellent “cure” for the blues, an option for creative, uninhibited natures;
  • blue and silver – the epitome of discreet luxury, suitable for living rooms and bedrooms in a classic style;
  • blue and pink are a slightly wild pairing that will make your home dynamic and elegant nonetheless.

Accessories and decor for blue interiors

This color is literally related to silk, porcelain and faience, “marine decorations” (shells, corals, stars), with gold or silver trim.

This or that decorative element is chosen not only according to the color, but also, mainly, according to the style of the dwelling. For example, for Russian country style, look for wall plates with a blue painting on a white field. For the French provincial – linen curtains, tablecloths and capes in white with a light, forget-me-not print. And for the Mediterranean theme, blue and gilded amphora jugs and floor vases are suitable.

Tip
.
Furniture with parts made of dark, textured wood, gilded or silver items (candlestick, jewelry box, mirror frame) automatically turn the blue living room into a rich aristocratic salon.

Not the most sought after in terms of interiors, as many people are repelled by its coldness. But once in the blue interior, we feel peace, tranquility, it invites us to think. By the way, it has been proven that this color normalizes the heartbeat and pressure. It also reduces appetite, so it is perfect for the kitchen for people who want to lose weight.

A little note.
Since the blue color belongs to the cold palette, it has a refreshing and somewhat cool effect. This suggests that this color is perfect for rooms with windows to the east. But for those rooms whose windows face north, blue is not very suitable, it will make them too cold, as well as small dark rooms.

But, in principle, the blue color and its shades are well suited to any room, the main thing is to choose the right tone and choose a combination with other colors.

Adding white to blue

When it comes to combining with blue, designers most often advise to take white. Here two problems are solved at once. The first is a visual increase in space due to white. And second – blue brings freshness to the room. So what follows from this? This combination of white and blue is perfect for small rooms that need freshness. And for very small rooms, this union will be simply saving. Moreover, white is recommended for walls and ceilings, and blue for furniture and windows, but there may be other options. It is also important in this color design not to draw attention to the color of the floor, let it be neutral.

The blue and white combination is very often used to create. The union of these two colors evokes in us associations with sea foam, the endless expanse of blue water and the eternal sky above our heads. This design is suitable not only for lovers of seascapes, but also for simply romantic natures who like to think in a calm and quiet environment.

However, do not forget that this combination is still very cold, and if such an atmosphere is welcome, then you can safely choose rich shades of blue.

And if you want the interior to be not too cold, but only refreshing, then it is better to prefer soft shades of blue, close to blue and turquoise. And white, by the way, can be chosen from a sweet palette: cream, the color of coffee with milk, and so on.

Perfect for blue interiors, both as a material and as a color. They complement each other perfectly, creating a certain sophistication. After all, both of them personify nature: a tree is a tree, and the blue color is the sea, sky, wild flowers. So, blue can be presented in any shade, but it is better to choose a tree for it in rich tones: cherry, dark walnut, mahogany, dark oak, chestnut, teak.

Related colors: blue and green

On the color palette, blue is located next to each other, such colors are called similar, they are not contrasting, and, therefore, calm. This combination gained popularity not so long ago, before it was feared and simply forbidden to be used both in the interior and in clothes. But in our time there is no place for prejudice, and in fact it is clear that this union of colors is simply magnificent, it brings depth, harmony and liveliness.

These colors are very fond of children, besides, this design is great for both boys’ and girls’ rooms, and even if both live in the same room.

Blue-green interiors have a very positive effect on a person: they do not tire, do not irritate, on the contrary, they cool, reconcile and soothe. It’s all about the association with nature, since green represents the earth (more precisely, grass), and blue is the sky. Due to this, such interiors become fresh, cool and light.

We have already said at the beginning that the blue interior of the kitchen contributes to a moderate appetite, so blue-green environments have the same qualities, but in addition to reducing appetite, they also extinguish the desire to consume sweets.

In the bedroom, such a duet has a beneficial effect on sleep, in its environment it is easy to relax and fall asleep quickly. With regard to shades, we can say that the basic rules apply here: rich tones – a cooler atmosphere, soft – a calm atmosphere.

Brown accents in blue interiors

Neutrality relaxes the intensity of blue, softens its coldness. But such a tandem will be appropriate only in a spacious room, and a small room in this design will become too gloomy. Based on this, shades of these colors are also selected. That is, in a large room, you can safely take rich tones of blue and brown. But in a room with more modest dimensions, it is better to take muted shades of both colors, then you can avoid the feeling of gloom.

Reconciliation of irreconcilable colors: blue and red

This is the union of two very strong colors. The properties of blue are opposite to the properties of . Red is an impulse to action, increased heat sensitivity, a decrease in space, but blue, on the contrary, is the color of calmness, reflection, a decrease in heat sensitivity and expansion of space. Why then use these colors together if they are in clear antagonism? Everything is very simple. By creating such a duet, their qualities and properties are combined. For example, the costumes of Hollywood superheroes are made in this combination (more blue). What does it say? The fact that the hero is reasonable, calm, kind, but at the same time brave and courageous. Roughly the same can be said about the interiors in blue and red design.

By the way, in order for the blue and red colors to coexist better together, white is added to them, which acts as a catalyst and balances their forces.

Another subtlety. You should not take these colors in the same amount, then their struggle will become too obvious. It is better if one of them is dominant, and the second is complementary. Which role to give depends on the temperature preference for the room. If the task is to make the room warmer, then the main one should be red. For a cool vibe, solo blue.

Blue with orange and yellow

Blue and is a rather bright and bold combination, very catchy and even immodest for some. These colors are complementary hues, resulting in extreme expressiveness and balance. Most often, this combination can be seen in strong-willed clothing, denying authority, preferring freedom of choice and a craving for adventure.
