Suppliers selling to doomsday preppers are making a fortune off fears that the world is coming to an end.

Rising S Company sells underground doomsday bunkers at every price point. The Texas-based manufacturer says its business has soared over 500% since the election of President Trump, with about 230 units sold and $12 million in sales in 2017.

The bunkers are made of steel and set 11 feet underground, which makes them useful in natural disasters, nuclear attacks, and other doomsday scenarios, according to the company.

“Anybody can put containers in the ground and sell them to people. What Rising S sells is safety,” Gary Lynch, general manager of the company, told Business Insider.

About a decade ago, a woman approached owner Clyde Scott about building her a much larger storm shelter — around 40 feet long — that came with all the creature comforts of home.

“She wanted the whole works — bathrooms, beds, sinks, camera systems — and it got me thinking, she isn’t wanting no ordinary storm shelter, but a survival shelter,” Scott told Dazed.

He used $3 million from his storm-shelter business to create a bunker company, and the move has kept him busy ever since. According to Lynch, the company’s client list includes tech moguls, professional athletes, politicians, and celebrities.

A few years ago, a California-based company called Vivos produced snickers when it introduced a series of luxury survival bunkers. Equipped with all the medical, recreational, and other gear one might need when the world comes to an end, the bunkers seemed to have it all. Only one problem: Starting at tens of thousands of dollars, they were beyond the budget of most suburban survivalists. Enter the Vivos 1000, a “bargain” economy-class bunker, which you can squeeze into for just $9,950 per person. “Now, virtually anyone can afford a boarding pass,” the company says. Here’s a guide to what you’ll get for your money:

How much protection do these bunkers offer?
Vivos claims its shelters are engineered to withstand a 50 megaton nuclear blast, and “virtually any other force that either nature or mankind may create.” They come with their own power generators, deep water wells, and medical equipment.

How much is the first-class luxury shelter?
Space in one of the five luxury bunkers being built starts at $25,000 a person, and requires a $5,000 deposit. Each shelter can accommodate roughly 250 people in “spacious quarters” (about 100 square feet per person) for one year. Occupants get medical and dental centers, pet kennels, complete wardrobes, books and entertainment materials, pool tables, wine cellars, and a year’s supply of freeze-dried food.

And what about the rest of us?
The cheaper Vivos 1000 offers only the bare essentials, so no pet care or chilled wine. And instead of a complete wardrobe, occupants will get only “comfort sweats.” The size of the bunker is the same, but it will be filled with four times as many people. Occupants will share a room with three others. Most importantly, the economy-class bunkers only ensure survival for six months. That “hardly seems like enough time for nuclear fallout to settle down and create living conditions for humans,” says James Johnson at The Inquisitr. “I see these units becoming living tombs after half a year.”

Where are these bunkers?
Due to security concerns, the location of the first-class bunkers are being kept under wraps. But the company says the economy-class bunkers are somewhere in Nebraska, “far from known targets, fault lines, all oceans, and well above the subsided earth changes envisioned by many predictions.”

Are people really investing in these things?
According to Vivos, yes. More than 10,000 people have either applied for a reservation or have actually handed over a cash deposit. Since the March 11 earthquake in Japan, reservations requests have skyrocketed by nearly 1,000 percent, and hundreds of people are curious about the new budget facility, says Vivos CEO Robert Vicino, as quoted by CNN. “This may be your only chance to secure a spot in Vivos and to have a far better survival solution than trying to survive on the surface. “

Building a bunker is just as complicated as building a house, so if you wouldn’t be comfortable building your own house, we do not recommend that you attempt to build your own survival bunker.

They can plan for the construction of your bunker along with the construction of your home. This can save money on materials, machinery, and labor.

Dig Your Bunker Into a Nearby Hill

If you’re not thinking about building a new home, you might be able to use a nearby hill. If you’re lucky enough to have a hill on your property, then this could be a no-brainer solution for you.

Remember that the most important part of building a safe bunker is putting as much mass between your bunker and the surface as possible. Digging a bunker underground means that the deeper you go, the safer you are.

You can build a bunker in your backyard. In fact, your backyard may be the most convenient place for you to build it. Since you’re going to have to build your bunker at least 3’ (0.91m) underground, your backyard may be the best place to dig.

Keep in mind that survival bunkers need to have a lot of mass between them and the surface. The denser the mass, the better, which means that you will likely have to pour reinforced concrete between your bunker and the surface.

Do You Need a Permit To Build an Underground Bunker?

You need a permit to build an underground bunker, even if it’s wholly within your property. Go to your local building department to inquire about which permits you will need to get before you can begin construction.

The types of permits you will need depend heavily on your location. In general, you will likely need most or all of the following permits:

Grading permits for the bunker’s excavation.
Building permits for the construction itself.
Discretionary permits in case your bunker affects the surrounding area.
Plumbing permits if you’re installing plumbing in your bunker.
Electrical permits if you’re installing electrical wiring in your bunker.

This is another area where hiring a contractor to build your bunker can save you plenty of time.

Not only are you probably unfamiliar with which permits you will need, but you are also inexperienced in filling out the required forms and submitting all the necessary documents. Even a simple mistake could delay your permits for weeks or even months.

How Deep Does a Bunker Have To Be To Survive a Nuke?

Your bunker should be at least 3’ (0. 91 m) deep underground to survive a nuclear blast. How strong the bomb is and how far away from you it detonates will also significantly impact whether 3’ (0.91 m) will be enough to keep your bunker safe.

A bunker this far underground should provide enough protection for civilians, as the bomb will likely not target your house specifically. If you believe that your home is more likely to be near a detonation site, then you should build your bunker as much as 15’ (4.57 m) underground to increase survival odds.

Keep in mind that by placing the bunker underground, you’re trying to add mass between you and the blast. Tightly packed soil or reinforced concrete are great ways to add study mass above your bunker.

How Long Can You Live in an Underground Bunker?

You can live in an underground bunker for up to 5 years after a disaster event. However, you only need to plan for 24 hours up to 14 days if you are worried about a nuclear bomb. Nuclear radiation will be deadly for many hours after the initial blast.

If you are building a survival bunker to protect yourself and your family from a possible nuclear war, you should stock it with enough supplies for at least two weeks. If you’re worried about other possible extinction-level events, such as superbugs or climate disasters, then you should look for alternatives that allow you to stay underground longer.

How Do You Supply Air to an Underground Bunker?

To supply air to an underground bunker, you will need an intake vent and an exhaust vent. You will also need an air pump to cycle the air in and out of your bunker. Finally, you will need a filter, ideally an NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) filter, to protect you from harmful chemicals.

You can find NBC filtration systems online that come with all the vents and pumps that you need. A complete NBC filtration package will usually come with the following:

NPC filter
AC and/or DC power cords
Air intake hose or pipe
Blast valve for intake hose
Overpressure valve
Ventilation blower
User’s manual

Although an NBC filter can be expensive, they are a necessary feature of every smart prepper’s bunker.

If you’re not trying to protect yourself from a nuclear event, then a regular HEPA filter can be used instead of the NBC filter. HEPA filters are much more affordable than NBC filters, so if you’re not worried about nuclear bombs, you can find an affordable HEPA filtration system for your bunker.

Whatever the scenario is, there is likely to be plenty of dust and other particles in the air that could clog your air intake system.

You must always install a filter as a part of your bunker’s air supply.

Exceeded expectation. Location is amazing. Bed and linen was extremely clean and to a high standard.
The 2 woman who appear to run the place were friendly, caring, helpful.
Free breakfasts were a nice surprise.
This is a budget place so dont complain it is not 5 stars but it is excellent. We have travelled the world and started in 5 stars. This place is as good as anywhere we have stayed.
We had room One, king bed, own bathroom, shower, fridge. For $85 a night – wow.
The shared lounge is sort of non-existent, we stored our bikes in there. But who needs a shared lounge – get out an explore Napier. 1 street back from the waterfront and right in the CBD

Obviously this is a back packers and I understand they are not star rated accomodation but the price was exhorbitant due to there being a concert on in town. There was nothing but a bed in the room. No mirror no table no added anything. The toilets were not clean and were out of toilet paper. We didn’t use the kitchen but wouldn’t have given the grubbiness. It was the last Ed in town available for that we were thankful but certainly paid for it.

Great communication with staff, advised us room and key. Showers were hot & clean. Parking unavailable in front of hostel at time. Had to park around the corner. Would be good to know about parking. Easy walk to the waterfront.

ビーチが目の前ですぐ行けます。スタッフの方も優しくて着いた瞬間不安も吹き飛びました。ネットで予約したのですが少し予約に矛盾があったようですが（女子部屋希望なのに、ダブルベッドになってました）しっかりパソコンの画面を見せて条件と料金の確認をさせてくれました。同室の女の子たちも親切でとても居心地良かったです。寝るときに蚊が一匹居て寝にくかったです。キッチンは綺麗とは言えませんでした。食器やカトラリーは自分専用のものを箱に入れて貸してくれました。シャワーは水圧も強く清潔でした。ドライヤーがなかったので、持っていくことをおすすめします。私は同室の子が貸してくれました。

Metallinvest St. Petersburg manufactures bulk material hoppers, regardless of the complexity of the project. Stainless steel is used in the production, which is durable and resistant to corrosion, lends itself well to polishing, cutting and grinding.

Appointment of bunkers

The production of bunkers for bulk materials is one of the company’s priorities. Such structures are in demand in various industries:

agricultural;
construction;

These metal containers are used for short-term and long-term storage of various materials: both food (flour, grain, animal feed) and construction materials (ore, sand, limestone, cement). Also, bunkers are used as a storage of fuel materials (coal, biofuels).

These metal structures are practical and economical: if they are present, there is no need for additional storage facilities.

Types of storage bins for bulk materials

Depending on the purpose, there are several types of metal containers for storage of bulk materials. These are:

The production of storage hoppers is carried out in modern workshops equipped with automated equipment. Accumulators are used to collect garbage in the yards of multi-storey buildings, in production and construction sites. Such a bunker can store solid domestic waste, including construction waste, interior items and furniture, broken household appliances.

The production of solid waste bins is carried out by MetallInvest SPb in accordance with the technical maps. Products are made of high quality materials, have precise geometry and aesthetic appearance.

The receiving hopper is used for temporary storage of food and non-food bulk materials. The purpose of the design is to receive products from containers or conveyors with their subsequent direction for sorting, processing, packaging. Receiving bins are placed on small and large productions of the mining, agricultural, construction industries.

Feeder hopper is designed for the accumulation and supply of loose and small-sized materials that are not prone to sticking. Such structures are widely used in industries associated with crushing (cement and crushed stone plants, processing plants).

The main purpose of the dosing hopper is the accumulation and strictly dosed supply of loose, granular and powdery substances, the structure of which does not contribute to sticking. Structures are installed in the food, pharmaceutical, chemical, and construction industries.

Metallinvest St. Petersburg manufactures custom-made bunkers and silos according to the client’s specifications. Please note: hoppers are rectangular or cylindrical, silos are only cylindrical. If we compare these two types of containers, then the silo differs from the bunker in greater height and smaller width.

Just a few years ago, government “bunkers” were the stuff of legends. But now, thanks to the declassification of archival documents, you can find out how the most mysterious part of the city actually looks. And not only learn, but also see with your own eyes! We will go down the mines to the tunnels located deep under Zamoskvorechye. We will visit one of the unique engineering structures created in 1950s to protect against a nuclear strike. We will open the old Soviet hermetic doors with our own hands. We will see equipment that allows us to determine radiation, chemical and biological threats. We will attend a lecture by one of the leading Russian specialists in special fortification.

On the tour you will see:

security doors weighing up to 10 tons;

premises of the underground special storage of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs;

preserved equipment of the former “secret bunker”;

subway tunnel failure.

At the lecture you will learn:
where is the real “Stalin’s Bunker” and how to distinguish it from fakes;

is it possible to walk underground from the Kremlin to the Lubyanka;
