Now that you’ve chosen where to live at university, it’s time to think about room decoration. Whether you’re moving into university as a fresher, or a new house as a returning student, decorating your own space and making it feel like home is so important.

While this might sound expensive, we’ve found the best ways to decorate on a budget. Yes, you can have a pretty room and money in the bank!

From bedding to lamps and decorations, we’ve put together a guide so you can get the most out of your university-living experience.

Find out how to make friends at university before you arrive and during freshers’ week.

  • Get pretty bedding

Credit: All About Space – Shutterstock

    Cost: £15 – £25 (depending on the shop/deals)

When you move into your new university room, it’s a great idea to bring some homely essentials with you to brighten up the room and add your own personal touch. Stylish bedding is a great start.

Having lovely bedding is probably the easiest way to introduce colour and interesting patterns to your new room. You’ll immediately make it feel more like home, without having to spend much money.

Depending on what you’re looking for, you can get cheerful bedding from Wilko and Primark. It’s also worth looking at the Urban Outfitters sale for some nifty discounts on duvet covers, pillowcases, cushions and more.

  • Invest in a blanket

    Credit: Alena Ozerova – Shutterstock

    Cost: £3 – £10

Dress your bed with a blanket or throw if you’re feeling fancy. These not only make you look like you have your life (and room) together but serve well in the winter when it gets a little chilly. They’re also very cosy, making them ideal for when you’re feeling a bit homesick.

Primark is a great place to get cheap homeware and is definitely worth the trip. They often have sales on items like blankets, so keep your eyes peeled.

  • Get storage boxes and separators

    Cost: £1 – £12

If you have a small room in university halls (or in your student house), you’ll want to make the most of your space and use storage solutions. These boxes from Wilko (similar styles available from IKEA) are brilliant for the top or inside of your wardrobe, or wherever else you have space.

You may find that you also have some space under your bed to store stuff. These storage boxes will fit perfectly under your bed and make it easy to access all your favourite items, without your room getting too cluttered.

We’d also recommend these IKEA drawer separators to make the most of your drawer space, no matter how big or small.

  • Buy lamps for extra light

    Cost: £8 – £20

A lamp is a great essential to show off your taste. From experience, we’d say it’s best to stick to one to start with, but some rooms may have space for two (lucky!).

Lamps are great for giving off a softer, more relaxing glow than ceiling lights, which can sometimes emit a harsh white light. Perfect for your relaxing haven.

We bought ours from Dunelm, but we also love this Argos selection.

  • Get stick-on blinds for rooms that are too light

    Cost: £5 – £8

If you struggle with too much light in your room and wake up with it peeking through your curtains, we’d also recommend getting some blackout blinds. Have a look at the blinds from Wilko as you may be able to find some that stick onto the window frame.

You might also be able to find stick-on blinds in IKEA, too.

Stick-on blinds can be removed at the end of your tenancy without leaving any marks, making them perfect for renters. And they’re particularly good if your landlord has installed curtains that look and feel as though they’ve been crafted from tissue paper.

  • Add fairy lights

    Credit: Africa Studio – Shutterstock

    Cost: £5 – £15

Fairy lights are a great way to liven up a bare-walled, unfriendly house without overdoing it. Plus, fairy light curtains look amazing over windows.

It can feel impossible to decorate your student room walls due to the rules in your tenancy agreement. But, we used the Command Decorating Clips to attach lights to our walls and had no issues in removing them. They kept both our contract and walls intact.

  • Use decorative vines/string for photos

    Cost: £4 – £10

Got a couple of clips left from tip six? Use the rest to attach decorative vines or string (for photos) to your walls.

Vines are a great way to add a pop of colour and personality to a room without turning it into an actual jungle!

  • Hang photos and prints

    Cost: £2.50 – £10

Pictures of your family and friends will comfort you when you’re having a down day and missing them a bunch.

Try attaching your photos to some string to display them with a homely touch. We’ve found this snazzy photo hanging kit to get you started.

And, if you’re a fan of frames but are worried about leaving holes in the walls, these Command Picture Hanging Strips have got your back.

You can print your photos out cheaply via FreePrints or (if you’re feeling fancy) with Cheerz for Polaroid-style pics. For more info, we’ve got a whole guide dedicated to free photo printing services.

  • Find a memo board

    Cost: £3 – £10

A memo board is another great way to display pictures, notes, plans and even fairy lights. And, like most other things, it can also be hung with Command Decorating Clips or Command Medium Hooks for a damage-free look.

You can make your own whiteboard calendar by using paint chips from your local hardware store, glue and a big photo frame. Adulting and organisation, here you come!

If you struggle to keep up with plans, check out how to be more organised.

  • Use Washi Tapes

    Credit: Photographee.eu – Shutterstock

    Cost: £1 – £6

If you want to be super extra, get some patterned Washi Tapes to decorate your walls. It’s basically glorified masking tape (remember that from school?) and, again, allows you to personalise your room without losing your deposit.

We found ours in Typo, but they can be found pretty much anywhere with a home decor section. Nice!

  • Buy a wall tapestry

    Credit: Amazon

    Cost: £6 – £18

If washi tape isn’t to your taste, a wall tapestry might be. These serve fierce looks, are relatively inexpensive and, again, can be utilised alongside the decorating clips we’ve been banging on about!

There are loads of different colours, styles and materials to choose from. Click through to get the one on the left and the one on the right.

  • Add wall decals

    Credit: Photographee.eu – Shutterstock

    Cost: £7 – £15

Wall decals are an ideal way to make your new room look luxurious, without having to spend much money.

If you’re not up for making your own design with washi tapes, wall decals are a super easy and damage-free way to snazz up walls, furniture and dull doors. You can make a pattern with them or just dot them around in places you think could do with an extra bit of love.

  • Hang a mirror

    Credit: Odua Images – Shutterstock

    Cost: £7 – £20

So you’ve arrived at uni and there’s no mirror to be found? Urgh. We feel your pain.

These IKEA four-panel square mirrors are all the rage, and when you’re done with them you can just leave them on the walls for the next person if your landlord/halls don’t mind.

We’d recommend checking with your individual halls or landlord if you definitely are allowed to hang a mirror. Alternatively, you could grab something similar to these mirrors, so you can take it with you wherever you move to.

  • Get plants

    Credit: Prystai – Shutterstock

    Cost: £2 – £8

A touch of green never killed anyone (we think?!), so why not adopt a houseplant? If you’re not too good at remembering to water your babies, consider cacti, aloe vera and spider plants as they’re relatively easy to look after.

Bloom and Wild have some lovely plants for sale, as do Patch Plants.

You can also spring a little life into your room with fake plants. If you’re not ready to become a plant-parent, they’ll look vibrant all year round, require zero care and can often look pretty realistic.

  • Add small decorations

    Credit: Daria Minaeva – Shutterstock

    Cost: £1 – £8

Candles and reed diffusers can make a room look and smell very put together.

We tested the candles from Primark. Our verdict? We rate them.

We’d also suggest having a look in Home Sense or TK Maxx for budget-friendly candles. Plus, there are loads of other decorations you can add to your room, such as vases and scratch maps.

  • Get desk storage

    Credit: Stock Rocket – Shutterstock

    Cost: £2 – £12

Your desk will also need some form of organisation, even if it’s not too fancy! We recommend coming prepared with a good magazine rack (to store papers), a pen pot and an in-tray.

Depending on your room and what you’ve been provided with, you may need a desk tray to hold your books, notes and other stationery too.

It’ll save you time searching for those pesky revision notes when the time comes for a last-minute cramming sesh.

    Small but perfectly formed

Congrats! You’re off to uni! This is seriously exciting news and likely the first time you’ll be living away from home. As well as the chance to make loads of new mates, try loads of new bars (and, y’know, get a degree and that), it also gives you an opportunity to get creative with your uni room decor, so you can put your own stamp on your new digs.

Yep, halls rooms are pretty bland by nature. You’ll have a lil’ single bed, a wardrobe, a desk and literally nothing else, so, you’ll need to bring some decorative bits to make it cosy. Plenty of photos, a string of fairy lights and some pretty art prints should help you make it a bit less beige and a bit more you. See our picks of the best uni room decor below for more inspiration.

Looking for uni room ideas for your grim box of a space? You’ll probably start by scrolling through Instagram and Pinterest, saving pictures of rooms filled with fairy lights, wall hangings, house plants, Good Vibes Only cushions, pallet furniture with huge windows and glorious white walls. Well kids, hate to break it to you, but the reality is you are going to get a box room with a tiny window that barely opens, built-in shiny, orange wood furniture and there is always always at least one wall painted some vile bright colour that whoever designed the halls thought might be ‘fun’.

But hey, you can work with orange furniture and a ‘fun’ wall, you just need some creativity and our top REALISTIC bedroom decorating tips…

    1. Fairy lights really are invaluable

Okay first off, we are going to be slightly hypocritical here. We are fully aware your student halls or your room in a Victorian terrace is not going to look exactly like the one below. But obviously no one takes professional pictures of student bedrooms so you’ll have to bear with us on that.

So, fairy lights. They really are your saviour; the more you have the better. String them around the corners of your room to add cosiness to your space. They also work around window frames. We love Primark’s £2.50 warm white battery lights but if you are after something longer, these fairy lights from Lights4fun are also a good option.

These warm white lights from Lights4fun are a quick way to add cosiness to your uni room

    2. Take lots of side lights

Inevitably you are going to be stuck with one bare bulb burning as brightly as a very cool toned sun hanging from your ceiling, so along with fairy lights, take some side lights with you too. These will just give you a warmer lighting option, something to work or read or binge watch Gilmore Girls by. These bedroom lighting ideas will help you kill that OHL (overhead lighting for the uninitiated) and make your room feel more like home.

    Get a noticeboard

Of course, you can fill yours with more personal things than some generic sunset pics, a motivational quote and some sunglasses that look like they have been stolen from an Elvis impersonator. While you can always use a noticeboard to actually help remind you of important things like deadlines and reading lists, you can also use them to add colour and decoration to your uni room. More of the best noticeboards this way <<.

    4. Pick out all the house plants

While we can’t promise those lovely white white walls, you can get some uni room ideas from this space. House plants are always going to, quite literally, bring life to even the most drab of rooms. Pick out some really gorgeous, quirky pots too and arrange them in clusters around your space.

Thinking you can barely look after yourself let alone houseplants? Well our guide to common house plants will be sure to make your fingers a bit greener. Or if in doubt just go for fakes. Find our best indoor plants (real and fake) in our buyer’s guide.

    5. Cover ugly walls with wallhangings

Bright turquoise wall be gone. Make like all the posts you’ve inevitably saved on Instagram and get a wall hanging up in your uni room. We love Urban Outfitters for quirky, boho style wall hangings, but if you are on a budget, believe it or not, Amazon do some very similar ones.

Top tip for you: to create a kind of canopy effect and just to soften the whole room, pin your wallhangings from the ceiling and then to the adjoining wall. Sounds weird, but we’ve seen it work.

Urban Outfitters in out go to for wall hanging (always check the sale section, you’ll usually find some in there!)

    6. Stock up on command hooks

Things might have changed since we were all at uni, but the number one rule apart from don’t smoke in your room and don’t burn candles, was don’t hammer anything on to your walls. Back in the day, we had good old Blu-tack to stick up our embarrassing pictures from nights out back home and posters of films we’d never seen, but now, well now command hooks have opened a whole new world of possibilities.

With command hooks, you could actually put up frames! Just check the weight is right for the hooks you choose. You could even hang a mirror, too! If you want any tips on how to create the best gallery wall, head over to our guide.

    7. Or create some wall decor with photographs

If a gallery wall just sounds like way too much of a faff then check out this uni room idea. String up some fairy lights (again Command Hooks to the rescue) and use pegs to hang your photos, postcards, motivational quotes from.

    8. Get a nice rug

Sure people might think you are tad high maintenance rocking up with a rug under your arm, but when they see its room changing abilities they’ll be sorry that they didn’t think of it too. In case you haven’t guessed, when it comes to decorating your room at uni, you basically want to cover as much of it up as you can, and a nice trendy rug will do just that. Check out H&M Home for some gorgeous, affordable options.

Add hip flask to the list and there you go, all you need when you leave the door (obviously we are talking about when you are going on a night out, we in no way condone you taking a hip flask to lectures). This post is giving you some university room ideas that will transform your uni room from drab to fab!

Ello ello, you’re here because you are looking for some ideas on how to decorate your university room. All three of my university bedrooms were given to me bare and bland and yours will be too. They will lack personality, have ugly carpets and probably a few DIY paint jobs in random spaces on the wall. Therefore, you want to quickly get in there and decorate it to make it yours as you will be living there for a whole year. It’s possible, it’s doable and all of these ways below will help make your room yours.

If you haven’t yet packed for University, make sure to check out my Ultimate Uni Packing List, comprising of everything you need! Without further ado, let me share some of the best genius ways to decorate your university room.

    University Room Ideas

We are here to take the stress out of decorating your room and make it easy as possible. Your university room is going to be your little slice of heaven, whether that be to relax after a long day, entertain friends, and get your study in (amongst other things lol.)

Before we get into the ideas, I am going to list a few things all university students need when you are decorating you uni room: renter friendly adhesives!

You are going to be sticking some of these things up and these command strips all leave no mess, no fuss! However, if there is a bit of a mess this polly filler pen is amazing!

Now enough chatting from our end, here are some super cool and easy university room ideas.

    Hanging Ivy

    @lxlybaker

    Recreate this Room:

This idea will NEVER get old, because you can do so much with this fake hanging ivy. I love how simply Lily hung these up but I have been in plenty of university room where these ivys have been draped so artistically across walls and bookshelves. Also, adding some nice greenery to your room will really brighten it up and make it more inviting and cozy. Plus, these require zero watering!

    Plants

This uni room decor idea was one of my favourite ways to add an extra something to my uni bedrooms. I do not suggest keeping plants that need a lot of watering because chances are you’ll forget to water them and if you are away on Christmas and Easter break, no one will water the for you. Alas, fake plants are the answer!

    These were my favourites:

    Washi-Tap Wall!

    @livvy_home

    Recreate this Room:

Who else had never though of using washi tape on their walls? If you are looking for some university room ideas for your walls that is simple (and fairly easy) this is such a perfect solution for art on your walls! Student landlords will literally fine you for anything so luckily, washi tape does not leave any marks behind- a perfect university room ideas.

Drawback, i guess you can only really work in lines. HOWEVER, you can get yourself some really cool washi tape and go all out!

    Pompom Garlands!

    @paint_and_pom

    Recreate this Room:

I have to say these pompoms are one of my most favourite university room ideas as they are so frickin cute! I love how different they are from your traditional fairylights 😍 and they come in so many colours and styles for you to chose from (like they even do Christmas ones!) Definitely pick these up and hang them on your bed, wall, shelves, anything, for a pop of colour.

    LED Lights

    @lizzie_harvey01

    Recreate this Room:

LEDs are not just for teenage boy bedrooms anymore. LEDs are extremely versatile when it comes to decorating and they can literally go anywhere. Some options for university room decor is:

    • LEDs around the wall
    • LEDs behind furniture – so it looks like it’s glowing
    • LEDs around a floor length mirror
    • Like this photo, LEDS around weird wall shapes!

    A Whole-Azz Photo Wall!

    @itsjojosugianto

    Recreate this Room:

A photo wall is perfect, especially if you are going far away to uni! It’s so nice to have a a few photos (or a hundred) from home. For cheap photos definitely check out freeprints! However if you do not want to have photos of yourself on your walls, these packs from amazon are great and come in a bunch of different themes/ colours.

Also the crochet pillow is so cute and homey. I think the crochet adds a nice new dimension to your room and is quite different to your standard pillows

    A Snack and Drink Trolley

    Recreate this Room:

In my opinion this is one of the best university room ideas ever! Going to the kitchen to make a drink is SO last year. These trolleys are so versatile you can put snacks, books, whatever you want on them. They can be as decorative as you want them to be! Having it is a MOVABLE drinks cart is so smart though- you will be studying and do not have to get up to make some coffee!

    Art Prints!

    Recreate this Room:

Art prints immediately make your room yours! They add so much personality to your room and DO NOT break the bank or the rental agreement!

PS: your university will most likely have a poster fair at some point in the first few months so definitely check that out for more variety!

    Photo Grids

I love these photo grids and I wish I knew about them whilst I was at university. They are multifunctional and you can double them up and make them as large as you would like!

I would personally go for a mix of things on my board, from photos, to memos, to memorabilia (is that the word I am going for?) just to make it more personal.

    Bookshelf Desk

If you are not living in halls or just have a very small desk, I highly recommend buying one of these desktop bookshelves. They’re so cool and you can adapt them to however you like. These add so much function to your desk and also saves a bunch of desk space.

    Moon Phase Garland

    @aesthetic_immie

    Recreate this Room:

This garland is one of my most favourite university room ideas! I love the moon phases, and the fact that they come in a bunch of metal colours is an added bonus, so they can fit any theme/ taste. I highly recommend looking into these because they are out of this world! 😍😍😍

    Fairy Light Wall

    @thecuriousplannerblog

    Recreate this Room:

If you do not have room for a source of light in your room; these lights are the perfect solution. The fairy lights make your room feel super cosy and relaxing. They are also super easy to put up and surprisingly really long.

I got these for a pretty good price, especially as they are electric and you can change the light settings on them! They are one of the favourite things in my room; highly recommend!

Mirror It Up and Some Cute Prints

I am obsessed with this sort of vibe! Adding a mirror will help give the appearance of a bigger room and you can also take bomb ass outfit photos and the prints just add more of your personality.

Both of the options below are great prices for mirrors (honestly never knew how expensive mirrors could be!) the black one is a great option as it hanges over your door- this could be for bathroom, bedroom or wardrobe doors. This mirror also comes in a range of colours. Then the white one is great for the wall or leaning up against it.

I would definitely check out the wall packs below- they are majorly on trend!

    A Macrame Tapestry

I love these macrame tapestries as they are so stunning and give your room a nice boho feel!

Can we also take a moment out to appreciate how lovely this university room decor idea is!? Both options are so trendy and they are neutral so they go with every colour scheme!

    Must Have University Room Tapestry

Every first time uni student needs a tapestry to jazz up their room and these ones are my absolute favourite:

    Storage Boxes

Who says storage has to be ugly? Storage can look super trendy whilst also being extremely functional.

The options listed below are really good for university as they are cute, easily transportable (between moves) and they fit various functions.

I cannot get over how cute these little baskets are! i’m thinking skincare in one, shower stuff in the other, all little face towels in the third. Also the American ones have tassels!

These are such cute decor options as opposed to clear bags/ caddies.

These storage boxes are absolute lifesavers. They can go just about anywhere and look like trendy decor pieces. These grey ones are in a cute chevron pattern, gender neutral and fit most bedroom themes. Also, MaidMax is my favourite collapsible storage brand- highly recommend for their versatility in styles and their durability.

If you are looking for something a bit more trendy and boujie, these white wicker baskets are stunning! They come in three different sizes and make GREAT storage decor!

    Cool Photo Frames

Photo frames are a nice way to spice up your university room decor. I love cool and unique frames and these are so lovely.

    Photo Lines

These are also such a cool way to spruce up a naked wall whilst adding personality. Not only do you need to hang up photos but you can also hang up cool prints.

That’s a wrap! 20+ University Room Ideas perfect for your university room! Make sure to send pictures if this post inspires your university room; we’d love to see them!

12 Ways to Decorate Your Uni Room As A Student

Moving into new student accommodation? Perhaps it’s your second year in the same room and you fancy doing something a little different? Either way, student rooms don’t need to be boring. In fact, there are lots of ways you can decorate your uni room to add some personality — without breaking the rules that are set by your university halls.

Plus, with a range of big and small changes, you can update your university room to feel homely — whatever your budget, style and timeframe. So here are our favourite uni bedroom ideas that any student can do…

    Bring in wall art

From photos of your friends and family to posters of your favourite band, adding some prints to your wall is a simple and effective way to show off your personality. Create a collage of memories or stick up some motivational quotes to inspire you. Just don’t forget to check the rules as you might need to use Blu Tack — instead of pins or sellotape — or risk being charged for damaged walls at the end of term.

    Add fairy lights

Uni rooms are a blank canvas which means it can be difficult to create a cosy feeling. Adding some fairy lights around your bed and draped across walls is an affordable way to do it. You could even invest in lights that change colour — warm white is ideal for nights in, while multicoloured will make the best pre-drink setting. We’d go as far as to say these are uni room essentials.

    Incorporate plants

House plants don’t just look great, they’re also proven to reduce stress, increase productivity, improve the air quality and boost creativity — all of which you’ll probably be needing after a few nights out. Coco Rose Interiors even said that “plants instantly attract the eye, calm the soul and bring a peacefulness to any room”. Don’t worry if you’re not naturally green-fingered as there are some plants that are super easy to look after including Monstera, Spider Plant, Hedgehog Aloe Vera and ZZ Plant.

    Use wall hangings

Your university halls or landlord probably won’t allow you to paint your walls. But that doesn’t mean you can’t accessorise them and bring colour into your room. Wall hangings from your favourite holiday or something from home can help to personalise the space. A tapestry of fabrics is also a great way of refreshing the room. Other ideas include hanging a map or flag — just be sure to check the rules first.

    Buy a statement lamp

Bedside lamps won’t only make your room feel cosy but they’re a fantastic way to add personality to your uni room decor. Choose from those inspired by animals, consider Moroccan style features to add colour or, for something really unique, a lava lamp.

    Create your own bed canopy

Bed canopies will add the wow factor to your uni room and can create a peaceful space. They’re really easy to construct and don’t require too many skills. You will need a spare hula hoop though. Simply drape some sheer fabric over the hoop, secure it over your bed and say hello to your brand-new den.

    Accessorise with cushions

If money is tight, you can still update your uni room with a selection of cushions. Charity shops and the high street are fantastic places to find unique and different fabrics that are super cheap — and if you’re feeling creative, you could make your own. Either way, scattering cushions on your bed is the easiest way to get different patterns and colours into the room.

    Add a rug

The flooring in your uni room probably isn’t going to win any awards but by adding a small rug you can make it feel a little comfier — and add some personality. Choose from luxury faux fur, natural cotton designs or, for something a little different, a bamboo rug.

    Get patterned bedding

The bedding you choose can have a huge impact on the overall look and feel of your room. Change up the colour, pick different designs and alternate between fabrics including cotton and satin. Adding a matching throw can also make it feel like a luxury hotel. This is also an easy way to regular decorate your uni room a different way and give a new feel to your room.

    Swap door handles

Not a fan of the door handles? Why not swap them for something you do like? Once again, charity shops usually stock a great range of handles but remember to put the original ones back on at the end of your tenancy.

    Use a pinboard

Pinboards are a great way to display work assignments as well as photos, quotes and postcards — without damaging the wall. There’s a range of styles too, including traditional cork as well as contemporary metal ones. Coloured pins and clips will really make it stand out.

    Get a doormat

Touches of your personality don’t have to be confined to your bedroom. A statement doormat that sits just outside will welcome visitors and add a breath of fresh air to your halls. You can even get mats that remind you to grab your keys or turn your straighteners off…

When you decorate your uni room it doesn’t have to cost a lot or take up huge amounts of time. Plus, you can still make a space your own without annoying your student halls or landlord. For more tips on how to decorate your student room, without losing your deposit, check out our guide here

19 Ways To Decorate Your Student Room | Student.com Blog

Make your university room Instagram-worthy without blowing your student budget.

Tired of how your room looks? Learn how to decorate your student room with our top tips:

    1. Add strings of fairy lights

A string of fairy lights is essential for any student looking to create a snug bedroom worthy of Pinterest. These can be draped around a room and are also perfect for holding up photographs from home with pegs.

    2. Customise your bookshelf

Anything can be transformed to hold your belongings if you get creative. Even a small stepladder can become a cute storage feature with a bit of love and attention. If your bookshelf has a plain back panel, you can personalise it by adding photos into the empty spaces behind your books. That way, you’ll have all of your friends there (in spirit, at least) to support you through your next essay deadline.

    3. Don’t forget your drawer space

Simple measures can transform your storage space to make it look organised and attractive. Take these dividers, for example, which can quickly jazz up an underwear or sock drawer in seconds.

    4. Poke holes in lamp shades

Everything can be personalised – even plain lampshades! If you poke holes in them, you can project any pattern you want around your room. Word of warning – only do this to lamps you own though or you could face losing your deposit.

    5.

     Create your own deadline board

It’s no secret students have a lot to remember, what with all the essay deadlines, exam dates and lunches with friends. You could cover every inch of your room with post-it notes, but a much better (and tidier) solution is creating your own deadline board. Our favourite is this one, because it’s a really simple design using a cork board and some string. Alternatively you can even use an old tray.

    6. Make your own removable wallpaper

This one sounds scary, but hear us out. It turns out you can make temporary wallpaper using nothing more than sheets of fabric and liquid starch. All you have to do is choose your favourite material (the wackier the colour, the better) and then use a sponge roller to stick it up using the starch – you can find the full instructions here. When you’re ready to move out, you can just peel it right off.

    7. Failing that, add a tapestry

Add a splash of colour to walls like interior designer Paigebrowndesigns did on this dorm room. She attached this dreamy, blue tapestry to the wall using double sided tape – an easy decorating solution if you are not allowed to make holes in walls.

    8. Hang accessories on a cork board

There is no reason why storage options can’t be attractive too. Take this jewellery board for example, which is a simple way of keeping track of necklaces and making use of space in a room. These can be attached on the inside of wardrobe doors if you wish to keep a minimalistic look for your bedroom.

    9. Make your own headboard

If your bed is looking a little dull, you can design your own headboard to add a touch of personality. All you need to do is head to the nearest hardware shop to pick up a decent-sized plank of wood to decorate with lights, fabric or anything you fancy.

    10. Spice things up with cushions

Slogan cushions or those with a colourful or quirky design can bring a bed area to life. These Harry Potter-inspired wonders can be found online here, but Etsy also has a diverse selection for any student room.

    11. Paint your own rug

An easy way to get a unique, personalised rug is to paint one. There are lots of cheap rugs out there in thrift stores and other secondhand shops for you to use, but you’ll get the best results if you use one with a low pile. To find out how to do it, check out this tutorial.

    12. Use Washi Tape for… everything!

Washi Tape is a magical Japanese masking tape that is completely removable and reusable (so don’t worry about your deposit!) Use it for making photo frames, crafting (more) removable wallpaper and, our personal favourite, using it to create imaginative pineapple-themed wall art..

    13. Personalise your hangers

If you have an open wardrobe with a visible hanging rail, things can look messy really easily if you use a load of mismatched hangers. Instead, try buying a set of cheap hangers and then customising them so they match your room. Add sequins, cover them with fabric or spray paint them gold for a luxurious touch…

    14. Add some greenery

There’s not much to this trick, we’ll admit, but adding a few plants here and there is an easy way to bring life to a room. They also come with a surprising array of health benefits, like making the air cleaner and helping you study better (seriously!). Aloe vera, jade plants and rubber trees are all really easy to care for, or you could start with a few of these.

    15. Organise messy wires

You’ve got your phone, your tablet and your laptop… all of these things need to be regularly charged. With so many wires it’s easy for your favourite electronics to pile up and begin to look unsightly. But we’ve got a fix for this, too: make your own charging station! You’ll be surprised how quickly things look tidier without all the wires.

    16. Make your desk a creative hub

You will probably be spending at least some of your year working away at your desk, so why not make it a place you actually want to sit at.  Spruce up the area with colourful lanterns, photos or plants. If you wish to attach items to the wall, try UHU’s white tack, which is great as it doesn’t leave stains.

    17. Use your furniture to break up the space

If you’re living in a studio apartment, it can be hard to know what to do with the open space. But there’s an easy fix! You can use your furniture to create different ‘zones’. Put a bookcase along the side of your bed and you can create a bedroom area. Set up your desk along the side of the living room to separate it from where you sleep. There are lots of ways to do it (and it’s quite fun thinking of them), so check out Houzz for some inspiration.

    18. Switch your handles

If you’re bored of the fittings that came with your room, there’s a really easy way to change things up a bit. Unscrew the old handles on furniture like your chest of drawers, and screw in different ones that you’ve chosen yourself. There are loads of options out there, and you can easily put the old ones back at the end of your tenancy so you won’t get in trouble!

    19. Use removable mounts

If you want to hang something heavy and Washi Tape just won’t cut it, you can invest in some Command Hooks. These removable wall mounts come in a range of sizes, so you can hang up everything from your favourite artwork to your winter coat without leaving a trace behind on the wall when you leave.

Everyone dreams of a cozy and comfortable bedroom. However, the owners of “odnushki” are limited in square meters. Recommendations from experts will help to equip the bedroom space in a one-room apartment correctly and ergonomically.

Often you have to combine a bedroom, a living room, and an office in one room.

Properly selected furniture can solve several major problems at once:

    • Capacity – find a place for things, having 15-20 sq. meters is quite difficult;
    • Maintaining style – not all modules fit perfectly into the finished design of the room. This applies to both the dimensions of the furniture, and textures, shades.

You can always find the optimal solution for arranging several areas.

As an example, you can study the presented photos of finished premises.

Sofas in the interior of your apartment

When it comes to sofas and cozy ottomans, it is important to remember the folk saying “measure seven times”. Sofas “eat up” most of the room, but benefit from the possibility of “folding”. It is better to give preference to modern modules, the design of which is being developed for limited areas. The most effective options can be found in the presented photos.

    A bed in a one-room apartment

A bed differs from sofas, first of all, in convenience. Owners can choose the best quality mattress that will prevent the development of back diseases. If the bedroom area allows, you can use the zoning method. Thus, the owners can divide the room into a guest room, where you can spend time with friends, and a bed in a small one-room apartment.

One-room apartment does not have much space, but if desired, it can be turned into a cozy nest.

Thanks to the variety of furniture modules, today you can find a transformer bed that is hidden behind a rack or in a closet. Unfolds as needed, freeing up a large space for active pastime.

A family of two can share the space so as not to disturb each other’s interests and peace.

Zoning the living room bedroom in a one-room apartment

Knowing the basic rules for zoning rooms, you can ergonomically fit everything you need. Below are the main methods and examples.

    Zoning with partitions

Despite the fact that odnushki most often cannot boast of a large number of square meters, it is quite possible to solve the problem of accommodating everything you need.

In a one-room apartment, space demarcation is most often indispensable.

    Methods:

    • Screens and partitions are the most “clean” option for dividing a space into two parts. In large chain stores you can find products of any textures, patterns and shades. The main thing is that the selected screen and partition should be mobile and have a practical component.
    • Whatnots – will solve several problems at once, which are associated with a lack of storage space and zoning.

Ready-made options can be found in the photo. Experts have collected the most practical solutions for dividing the space of small bedrooms.

Proper distribution of zones in a small apartment

Before carrying out repair procedures, it is important to prepare a project in advance that will help ergonomically occupy even precious centimeters. Owners should remember when it comes to limited space – accuracy is paramount. An example of the division into a bedroom, living room, storage areas can be found in the photo.

The sleeping area can be fenced off with a curtain or screen.

    How to rationally divide space

It all depends on whether a person lives alone or with a small family. Single owners of odnushki can design a plan based only on their own preferences. However, if several people live in the apartment, then a separate space will have to be allocated for each. Having your own space is important.

Although the apartments place a lot of emphasis on open space, it is worth having a separate sleeping area – one that serves the night’s rest and where there is no clutter.

Dividing the bedroom with decorative elements

The separator can be either a visual design, using textures, shades, or the decor itself. For example, pots with tall plants or designer curtains will help to retire.

Most often, beds are equipped with comfortable shelves, drawers, which makes it possible to place bedding and other things.

    Saving space

You can live comfortably even in a one-room apartment, if you properly organize space for storing accumulated property. Experts have compiled a list of the main methods that everyone can use.

In a one-room apartment, the sleeping area can be arranged in such a way that it will be a place not only for sleeping, but also for a pleasant and even useful pastime.

    Space Saving Tricks

5 Ingenious Solutions for Every Family:

    1. Use of drawers – today you can find a large selection of sofas and beds with additional storage below.
    2. Podiums – using even the lower space will help to accommodate bed linen, clothes, etc.
    3. Transformer bed with pull-out shelf – when this module is folded, an additional shelf opens up, on which books, flowers and figurines can be placed.
    4. Transformer chairs – even the space underneath can be used as a storage space for magazines and textbooks.
    5. Utilization of the space above the door – a separate closet can be made there, which will allow you to fit your belongings.

This is just a small list of tricks to help organize your storage space.

What to consider when designing a bedroom

Even at the beginning of planning a renovation, it is necessary to take into account all the possibilities that will help to properly organize the bedroom. Experts recommend paying attention to the following nuances, which are adapted to different types of buildings.

If desired, you can fence off the bed and so. It is simply closed around the perimeter with a light curtain.

    Accordion-shaped partition

The main advantage of the accordion is its mobility. It folds easily and takes up minimal space. Each family member has the opportunity to retire and relax, even if it is Khrushchev.

The sleeping area can be separated by an accordion partition.

    Drywall Partitions

Instead of spreading dust and dirt by building a brick wall, you can consider drywall options. A variety of ideas and shapes will allow not only to isolate the bedroom from the active part, but also to get additional storage space. Even the owners of Khrushchev can count on a full-fledged recreation area.

A drywall partition is also a good option. It can be provided with shelves.

An alcove bedroom is the perfect solution

An alcove bed on a special podium will save valuable square meters. An isolated bedroom in a 1-room apartment is in the photo. A few arguments in favor of this decision:

    • a place for privacy – such a niche can be covered with a small curtain;
    • is ideal for a family with children – adults have a separate place, not to the detriment of the playroom;
    • is stylish – it looks very unusual, you can start from the main style of the room.

Successful examples of zoning a one-room apartment into a bedroom and a living room

On the net, you can find a huge number of options when citizens are independently engaged in rebuilding odnushki. If you do not prepare for the repair work in advance, in the future you may encounter a huge number of “pitfalls”. Specialists have identified several adapted projects with a hall that will help you find inspiration for creating your own unique style.

If you have a small room, the layout can be quite simple, but it looks no less cozy and stylish.

One-room apartment design – one-room interior ideas, photo

Decoration of each zone and life hacks

Design of a one-room apartment is a kind of challenge. The task is not an easy one: to accommodate everything necessary for life in an area of 30-50 square meters. And the kitchen, and the work area, and a place to relax and sleep. We have collected for you interesting ideas for interior design of one-room apartments. Let’s figure it out together!

    Far-reaching plans

Soberly assess the possibilities: what is the area of the apartment, the state of communications, the height of the ceilings? Are there additional rooms that can be used in the layout – a balcony, a pantry, a niche? Do you have any children? In what style would you like to decorate the apartment? All this will help you better understand your capabilities and start planning. It is best to order a design project, taking into account individual characteristics, which will clearly demonstrate the future interior.

Interior design in a one-room apartment

    Main room

The only room in the one-room apartment is a multifunctional space. It accommodates a living room, a bedroom, a work area and, if necessary, a nursery. There are several features to consider when planning.

    Life hacks:

    Free arrangement of furniture

Don’t try to fill every free meter with furniture and decor. A solid “wall” along the entire wall remained in the 90s.

    Sofa instead of a bed

Folding sofa instead of a bed. It can also be comfortable for sleeping thanks to an orthopedic mattress. And it takes up half the space.

    Effective zoning

Don’t forget about zoning. Partitions, screens, curtains and shelving are indispensable for separating the recreation area from the work area.

    Convertible bed

Mobile version of the bed – folding bed. Puts away in the closet during the day and pulls out at night. Very comfortably! More about furniture-transformers here.

    Mezzanine bed

If ceiling height allows, consider installing a bunk bed. Below you can place a closet or workplace – practical and creative. Podiums and mezzanines significantly save space, which is so valuable in a one-room apartment.

    Miscellaneous lighting

One chandelier in the center of the ceiling – boring and little light. Use built-in lights, diode panels, floor lamps and table lamps.

Work area on the window sill

The work area can be combined with the window sill or a folding table can be installed, which can be disassembled if necessary.

    Entrance hall design

The apartment starts from the entrance hall. If yours is very small, think about how to place everything you need there. A narrow shoe rack, a shoe rack with a seat on top, and pouffes with shelves under the seat save space. A large mirror can be hung right on the front door – it is convenient to look into it before leaving. Instead of a separate hanger, you can hang coat hooks and a shelf for hats and scarves on the wall.

If the area of the hallway is more than four meters, it makes sense to install a closet. Take a closer look at built-in models if there is a niche. Such cabinets are located from floor to ceiling, combining a closet and pantry.

    Bathroom and toilet

In a one-room apartment, bathrooms can be either adjacent or separate. In any case, you will need to fit the maximum number of items in a small space. Do not put the toilet diagonally, so the usable area is eaten. Also look for showers instead of bathtubs. Do not forget that you can install a cabinet with shelves under the sink, and narrow hanging cabinets will not take up much space.

    Kitchen design

As a rule, kitchens in one-room apartments are quite small. But even three square meters can be used wisely! Position the kitchen set at an angle, experiment with the shape of the countertop. The window sill can be used as an additional work area or a table for lunch. By the way, the table itself can be a narrow bar counter or a folding table mounted on the wall. Like on a train, remember? Why not?

Small appliances are best kept in cabinets when not in use. And now there is a large one of any size and for every taste – built-in appliances, small bar refrigerators, two-burner electric and gas stoves, narrow dishwashers.

    Balcony

The presence of a balcony in a one-room apartment is a significant bonus, almost a separate room! Do not store unnecessary things there, but use the space to good use. The balcony can be insulated or arranged there, whatever you want.

And you can put light there and arrange a working or lounge area. An excellent option would be a podium bed: it combines a place to relax upstairs and the ability to store things inside.

    Solutions for children

Every person, even the smallest, needs their own space. It is convenient to place the crib in a niche (if there is one) to fence off with a curtain or a rack.

    Designing a children’s area in a one-room apartment

Using color zoning, you can designate the “adult” part of the room with more saturated colors, and the “children’s” part with light pastels.

    Color scheme for one-room apartment

White visually expands the space. Therefore, light shades of furniture and finishes are indispensable in the design of a one-room apartment.

Certain color accents can be made. For example, a bright sofa, and everything else is like a background for it. The color of wood or stone, yellow, white, blue, pink creates a cozy atmosphere in the house.

The color scheme of the apartment reflects the character of the owner. If you are comfortable in a dark room, make a contrasting accent on one wall. You should not paint in a dark color except perhaps the ceiling. Light is most reflected from the ceiling, black eats up a good half of the light. This is especially critical in small apartments.

    One-room apartment design styles

At the stage of defining the general concept of the apartment, ask yourself what is your soul? Someone likes organic minimalism, someone wants to live in a creative loft, or maybe you can’t live without beautiful decor? It is always necessary to build on your own feelings.

The first thing that comes to mind when decorating a one-room apartment is minimalism. This does not mean that the decor will be spartan – a table, a chair, a sofa and that’s it. Minimalism assumes that each piece of furniture is needed for some reason, and not just like that. It’s great if it performs more than one function. For example, a folding sofa – and sit and sleep. Extended window sill as a table or workspace. Furniture decor in this style is as concise as possible and does not eat up space.

The trendy loft is perfect for designing a one-room apartment for one person or a young couple. Don’t be put off by the fact that a loft usually requires large areas. Use individual elements for inspiration and turn the apartment into a cozy space for living and creating.

Scandinavian style is a great design solution for a one-room apartment. It involves a lot of light and a light finish. This design will visually expand the area and is perfect for small apartments. With the right approach, you will not have bare white walls and a hospital atmosphere, but a minimalistic modern design.

Provence suits romantic natures. Light colors, delicate decor. The main highlight of a one-room Provence-style apartment will definitely be the kitchen – you just won’t want to leave it!

What conclusion can be drawn? Whatever area you have, you can always make the house cozy and comfortable for life. Believe me, we have tried and we know. The main thing is to decide on the budget and priorities, the style of the future home. This will help our test

Tiny apartments for a family of three are always a challenge for a designer. It was necessary to plan so that there was a room for the child, a common living room, a bedroom for the parents and enough storage space, the space was filled from a functional point of view and did not look cluttered.

Living room, bedroom, work area, wardrobe in one room

Proper zoning of a one-room apartment to create two beds

There are several ways to divide a room into a living room and a sleeping area:

      solid partition to the ceiling

        ─ stationary or sliding;
      • cabinet, shelving, partitioning the space;
      • curtain, screen, lattice;
      • decorative partition not full height of the room;
      • podium that raises part of the floor;
      • live or artificial plants;
      • separate design of floor, ceiling, walls and area lighting.

For one person, it is enough to visually divide the room, but the design of a one-room apartment for a family with children should provide for the possibility of privacy.

Important: In order to rationally divide a small room into three, it is desirable to make one sleeping place completely closed.

Dividing a room with a sliding partition

More common are standard rooms with one window at the end. This cannot be divided into zones by a wall while maintaining full natural light in both. The problem is partially solved with the help of partitions made of glass or plexiglass. Screens and curtains made of dense material also provide significant insulation, providing a connection of zones during the day and light throughout the room.

Tip: Combine zoning methods, surround the bed with a drywall wall and cut windows or shelving into it, covered with a curtain or sliding panel if necessary.

Separation of the bedroom with a plasterboard partition

a variety of decor, and do not use colors and textures that visually reduce the space.

Minimalistic design of a one-room apartment with two beds

      Techniques for maintaining space and light when developing the design of a one-room studio apartment with two beds: , shelves;

    • built-in wardrobes disguised as a wall – more spacious than usual and do not visually narrow the space;
    • mirror panels on the wall or furniture doors reflect the room, making it twice as large, and also increase illumination where light does not penetrate well;
    • neutral light tones in the decoration give a feeling of space, peace and freshness; dark ones hide volume, it is better to use only as a color accent;
    • simple and clear geometric shapes in layout, furnishings and decoration.

Important: Do not use more than 3 basic colors in the interior of a small apartment. You can add variety with the help of textiles in pastel shades ─ blue, turquoise, lilac, salad, yellow ─ or one bright decorative item.

Use of color accents ─ dark brown, yellow, turquoise

These features are inherent in several directions of interior design, so the choice is not limited to minimalism. Taking white as a basis, adding cold light blue and light green tones, natural wood and knitted blankets, we get a practical Scandinavian style. The pacifying Japanese design is distinguished by a modest setting, the use of eco-materials and natural elements in the decor ─ images of animals, plants, stone compositions.

Tip: Reflective glossy surfaces do the same job as mirrors, expanding the space. They are used when creating minimalism, classicism, futurism or techno style in the interior.

Examples of design of one-room apartments with two beds

I present to your attention two ready-made design projects of a one-room apartment for a young family with children. In the first case, the window is located in the middle of a long wall, which made it possible to divide the room into two full-fledged rooms with natural light.

    Project 1

Project 1. Plan of a room divided into two zones by cabinets

On the left is a daughter’s room with a transforming bed that folds vertically into the wall, a wardrobe, a large workplace and shelves. To the right is a living room with a folding sofa for parents, shelving, a TV and a small table that is used as a dining or work table. Spacious low cabinets are built into each part of the room.

This is important: The comfort of a home depends largely on having enough storage space. It is not recommended to reduce the required area of \u200b\u200bcabinets for the sake of beauty.

    Project 1. Living room interior

Minimalism is clearly expressed in the design. Basic colors ─ white, gray, light wood. One bright color accent in the living room is an orange sofa, and a calm olive in the nursery. Simple geometric shapes, smooth matte finishes are used. Variety is provided by long pile carpets and modern posters on the walls.

Project 1. View from the living room

    Project 1. Nursery interior

    Project 2

In the second project, a reconstruction was made, the kitchen niche was moved closer to the corridor to make room by the window for an additional room. Allocated fully enclosed bedroom with wardrobe. The living room is made according to the principle of a studio, separated from the kitchen and the corridor by a dining table ─ counter.

Project 2. Studio with a separated bedroom

Design preference is given to restrained cool colors, glossy surfaces and eco-decor elements. Due to a variety of modern lighting, the interior looks stylish and a little fururistic. The wooden bedside table and shelves in the bedroom, combined with low-hanging lamps, create a cozy feeling. A large painting in blue and beige-brown tones, pillows on the sofa and a soft carpet add warmth to the common room.

Advice: Interior designs for a studio apartment with two beds mean that one will have to be combined with the living room. Sleep comfort affects health. It is better to choose full and full-sized beds, put them in a transformer closet or under the podium. If this is not possible, choose a sofa with a thick, dense, seamless base or use an additional mattress, mattress pad.

Having at your disposal even a one-room apartment, you can comfortably accommodate a family in it, if you think over the interior in detail at the design stage.

    Interior Design

We are talking about techniques that will help make a one-room apartment more comfortable.

    Two open plan options

    Storage system around the bed

The simplest example is when the apartment has already been renovated, or you don’t want to move the partitions, but you need to take into account all the wishes in the interior. In this case, the arrangement of the apartment is done by arranging furniture, light and decor.

Bedroom area: The dimensions of the room make it possible to divide the room into a bedroom area and a living area. The storage systems here are U-shaped, around the bed. This allows you to make the most efficient use of space.

In the living area of there is a sofa, and opposite – wall cabinets and a cabinet under the TV. This furniture does not narrow the space, but on the contrary, makes it multi-level, visually making the interior more interesting.

Kitchen with this layout is quite standard, located at a corner, but thanks to the use of interesting light and facades of different colors, it was possible to diversify and refresh the space.

Loggia: On the spacious loggia you can organize a comfortable place to relax, here you can enjoy the beautiful view, read a book, sit at a laptop.

Combining the kitchen with the living room and a sliding partition in the bedroom

When the apartment is not renovated, there are concrete walls around you, and the layout from the developer does not meet all your requirements, there are also several options for non-standard redevelopment of a one-room apartment. One of them is to create a modern and, especially today, up-to-date open floor plan.

Kitchen/living room combination: We arrange the kitchen furniture in an L-shape to maximize the work surface. At the same time, all equipment is located on the right in tall cabinets.

Dining area: has a spacious table that can seat up to 6 people. If desired, the dining table can be replaced with a kitchen island, this technique will make the interior even more modern and create an additional work surface. A comfortable sofa adjoins the table, and on the contrary, in the TV area, which is decorated with interior lighting, there is a small workplace.

Bedroom: Walls can be finished with extra strong decorative plaster, which is resistant to abrasion and, due to its texture, creates the necessary relief. In this layout, we even managed to carve out a small bedroom. We had a full bed with a spacious linen box and two small bedside tables. We lightened the space thanks to the soaring ceiling, which is decorated with decorative lighting. The kitchen-living room and the bedroom are separated by a sliding partition that allows light to pass through.

Bathroom in this apartment is small, but we managed to fit a wide sink with a built-in faucet and a spacious shower. The washing machine and dryer are located in a column and are hidden behind the facades of a spacious closet, which also has a place for household items, mops, rags and washing powders. On the walls – large-format porcelain tiles in combination with wooden inserts.

Entrance hall: there is a comfortable ottoman with a built-in shoe rack and a spacious closet. The color palette is designed in gray colors.

    Folding furniture and zoning

Folding furniture: is the optimal solution for transforming space in a one-room apartment. With the help of a folding table and chairs, you can make the zone multifunctional: organize a home office, a mini-dining room or a hobby corner. At the same time, furniture can be removed at any time and space can be freed up for other purposes.

Zoning: There are several ways to visually divide the space: screens, partitions or shelving. I recommend paying attention to the last option. With the help of an open shelving, you can easily divide the apartment into zones without interfering with natural light, while adding additional storage space for books, documents and other items. And to make the rack look aesthetically pleasing, store all things in boxes or decorative baskets.

Two zones in one place: Many women want to have a beauty corner at home – a dressing table with jewelry and cosmetics. In addition, over the past year, we have realized the importance of having a convenient remote workplace. But in a one-room apartment, it may be difficult to place two separate tables. I advise you to combine two zones into one and transform them as needed – with the help of proper storage, this is absolutely real. For example, place a laptop and documents in drawers, and store a folding mirror, organizers for cosmetics and jewelry on the surface of the table. Or vice versa – depending on your preferences.

    Kitchen decoration

Visual tricks: If we have a small kitchen space, then a massive countertop can become visually lighter by varying its thickness. You can also visually lighten the kitchen with the help of lighting. Some volumes will stand out and create the effect of soaring and lightness. However, it is important not to overdo it with the backlight. It is better to use it locally, for example, only under the countertop or only under the plinth.

The room can be visually enlarged by emphasizing the horizontal lines with decorative lighting.

Additional work surface: Few people think that there are other simple ways to increase the functionality of a small kitchen, for example, it can be a cutting board or an additional surface that is placed on the sink. As a result, you can use a useful work surface instead of a sink – this is an elementary solution that anyone can implement.

design of each zone and life hacks

Everyone who lives in a one-room apartment understands that a small space must be filled wisely and to the maximum. Therefore, before finishing, it is important to clearly think over the interior of a one-room apartment, to allocate space for children, and for rest, and for work. Not everyone can do it themselves, and this article will tell you what the interior design of a one-room apartment is like, what methods of zoning and decoration are in fashion today.

    1. Minimalist one-room apartment design

The minimum amount of furniture and decor, as well as the overall restraint of decoration, is the best way to make a one-room interior look spacious and elegant. For greater effect, use mirror surfaces that visually enlarge the room.

Tip: use “transformers” to reduce the number of pieces of furniture. For example, a wardrobe or a sofa bed, folding or sliding tables, a sofa with a built-in tabletop and shelves, etc. You can consider interesting options for such furniture in our article.

    2. Zoning the interior of a one-room apartment without partitions

To divide the interior of a one-room apartment into functional zones, it is not necessary to use walls or plasterboard partitions. The above-mentioned transforming furniture will allow the living room to simultaneously act as a bedroom.

The kitchen can be combined with the living room, but at the same time separated from it by a bar counter, which at the same time can act as a dining area and an “island”.

Floor shelves and cabinets can come in handy when you need to separate a children’s area, home office or bed. However, room curtains will also do an excellent job with this role.

In a one-room studio apartment, various finishing materials can be used for visual zoning of space. For example:

    • Tiling the kitchen;
    • Guest area – laminate / linoleum;
    • Bedroom – carpet.

Different wallpapers for walls and ceilings will further emphasize the transition.

    3. Color design of a one-room apartment in 2017

It is believed that bright or very dark colors are not suitable for the design of a small apartment. There is a tradition that a one-room interior almost always has light walls and a ceiling. However, in a modern studio apartment or with a minimalist design, when the room is not littered with unnecessary things and decor, it is quite possible to experiment with more saturated colors. The main thing to remember is that in a small space it is better to avoid small patterns and a large number of details.

Using the color combination table below, you can create harmony in your studio apartment.

    4. Modern interior design of a one-room apartment – ideas with 13 photos

A few more tips that will come in handy when you are planning to renovate and design the interior of a one-room apartment:

    1. Do not clutter up the space with various unnecessary things. Buy wardrobes, sofas, beds, ottomans and other furniture with built-in compartments for storing bedding and other items.

    3. There are few doors in a one-room apartment and this is its plus. However, in such an interior it is important to pay attention to the arrangement of furniture. Get more ideas for this in the article.

    4. Combining the kitchen with the living room, you can allocate space for a separate bedroom or children’s room. The easiest way to do this is to cut the area of \u200b\u200bthe kitchen and dining area. So, you can use a corner kitchen set, and replace the window sill with a countertop
    .

    5. If building codes allow, then it is better to make a bathroom in a one-room apartment combined and install a shower cubicle instead of a bathtub.

Does your odnushka need redevelopment? The decision depends on many factors, objective and subjective.

    Objective reasons for redevelopment

In which house is the apartment? New building or second home? If the first, then, most likely, redevelopment will not be needed – modern apartments are being built with fairly large kitchens, the same rooms and balconies. Rare odnushka found less than 38-40 square meters. To make a comfortable space with such footage is real and without redevelopment.

If the apartment is in a secondary building built during the Soviet period (for example, in Khrushchev or Brezhnev), redevelopment is a way to rationally allocate space and highlight functional areas.

Another objective reason is the presence of load-bearing walls inside the apartment. In no case should they be demolished – this threatens with fines from public utilities and will become a big problem in future resale. Again, in new buildings, load-bearing walls in odnushki are often made between the kitchen and the only room – in this case, legal redevelopment is simply impossible.

    Subjective reasons

Subjective reasons are your personal requirements. If you are making a single room just for yourself or plan to live there together with a partner, you can do without redevelopment. will help to highlight the desired zones. If a family with an adult child settles in a odnushka, it is often impossible to do without redevelopment, because you will have to find a place for two sleeping areas, a common living area (even if combined with a kitchen). At the same time, it is desirable that the zones are also isolated.

Most likely, you will never be approved for redevelopment if:

    1. You want to add a balcony. According to modern standards, balconies are considered common property, and should not be subjected to increased load. Another thing – loggia. They are attached and insulated.
    2. You encroach on common house areas – part of the corridor, the attic of the house or even the basement. A possible option is a documented refusal of neighbors in your favor, but in practice there are very few such cases.
    3. You want to move a residential area to a non-residential area (for example, make a kitchen in place of a room). This is illegal and threatens to inconvenience the neighbors, since all communications are connected to a certain room and are the same for the entire “riser”.

    2
Light colors for decoration and furniture

Be sure to provide several “levels” of light: general lighting, such as a chandelier or built-in spots, sconces, table lamps, as well as directional light – above the working area in the kitchen or above the mirror in the bathroom.

    9

There is no place for useless decor in a small apartment – it will simply litter the space. Frankly, useless decor is a taboo for any apartment, but especially in a one-room apartment.

Look for options that will simultaneously perform some function in the interior. For example, a floor lamp with an interesting design or cool cutting boards that can be left in plain sight and thus decorate the kitchen.

    10

Bright decorative accents are the basic rule for a bright interior. Monochrome design has its place, but it can get boring and can be easily refreshed with a few bright accents. For example, colored pillow cases or a bright sofa cover.

    11

Everyone knows about the role of mirrors and reflective surfaces in small apartments. They are the best . Of course, you should not abuse it – not everyone is comfortable in a room where there are a lot of mirrors. But thinking about mirror inserts or, for example, choosing glossy facades for the kitchen is a good solution for a single room.

    12

In a small apartment, every square centimeter must be put to good use. The windowsill is no exception. Make it a work area in the kitchen or use it instead of a dressing table in the bedroom. Eight more great ideas.

    13
Built-in wardrobe up to the ceiling

The rule of small apartments is oversized furniture. But there are exceptions. Built-in wardrobe to the ceiling – what you need odnushka. It is desirable if the facades are in the tone of the wall decoration in order to additionally “disguise” the overall furniture.

    14

If you have a suitable niche or want to organize it yourself, then you can do without a closet – and shift the entire storage load to the dressing room. By the way, some storage experts argue that for small-sized dressing rooms – even better. There you can think over the right number of shelves, rails and storage accessories and thus use every centimeter.

    15

For example, a washer-dryer or oven with built-in microwave. Do not give up on modern gadgets – look for opportunities to build in the equipment you need, even in conditions of lack of space.

    16
    Long curtains or no curtains

Long curtains for the ceiling – a decoration of the room and. Visually, they stretch its height. If you want the room to have as much light as possible and stick to the Scandinavian style, you can ditch the curtains altogether.

    17
    Furniture-transformer

This is what should be in every small apartment. For example, a folding table is a real salvation for a small kitchen, and in a room there is an opportunity to organize a full-fledged workplace and not sacrifice space.

In this article, we will offer you ten ideas for creating the most functional interior of a one-room apartment, dividing the space of a single room into several zones, arranging an office and a cozy bedroom in one room, and also talk about ways to visually expand the space in a one-room apartment.

A one-room apartment, of course, cannot be called the most spacious house for a family, but since you only have such a modest living space at your disposal, you need to make it as functional and comfortable as possible. We hope that the tips offered in this article will help you cope with this difficult task.

The only room in the apartment becomes a living room, a bedroom, an office, and a nursery. Combining such a large number of functions in a small area is certainly difficult, but with the help of modern design techniques it is quite possible.

The first idea – we are trying to get rid of everything superfluous

Before you start decorating the space of the only living room of your apartment, you should think carefully about what you cannot do without in this room, and what can be taken outside of it.

The worst option for arranging a “odnushka” is a completely cluttered room, in which, due to the abundance of furniture, there is simply nowhere to turn around. Therefore, you should clear the space as much as possible and get rid of everything superfluous.

For example, if the corridor in your apartment is large enough, it is here that you should install a spacious closet, which will become the main storage place for the family wardrobe. Then in the room itself it will be possible to install only a light wall for books, souvenirs and other trifles.

If the apartment has a balcony or loggia, they can also be used to get rid of unnecessary items. Just organize a well-thought-out storage system, for example, order or buy ready-made racks, otherwise, instead of a living room, it is the loggia that will turn into a warehouse of unnecessary things. In general, all items that can be stored in an unheated room can be taken out to the balcony.

Typical “Khrushchev” houses usually have a pantry that can be converted into a dressing room. We already wrote about this arrangement option in the article “Storage places in a small apartment”. You can also think about moving the work area, that is, a table for a computer or laptop to the kitchen, but this way of freeing the living room from excess furniture is not suitable for everyone. If the kitchen itself has a very small area, it will not be able to take on additional functions.

Now that only the necessary pieces of furniture are left in the room, you can think about the design of the interior.

Of course, one cannot do without storage places in the only living room of an apartment. But let it not be a massive closet crammed with things, but a light wall that can simultaneously serve as a TV stand

The second idea is minimalism as a way to make the room more spacious

This advice is a logical continuation of the previous one. As an interior style, minimalism is ideal for creating a space freed from everything superfluous, leaving the owners with only the most functional and necessary pieces of furniture and decor.

Conciseness, which is the hallmark of minimalism, will allow you to leave enough free space even in a small area of the living room, to avoid excessive splendor and pretentiousness, which would simply be out of place in a one-room apartment. “Less is better, but better” is an excellent principle for arranging a one-room apartment.

If you do not accept minimalism in its purest form, considering this interior design option too cold and devoid of individuality, adopt certain principles of such an interior. So, of course, you don’t need to completely avoid decor, but it’s not worth overloading the room with details, for example, decorating a low ceiling with lush stucco or placing a huge picture on a small empty wall space between the TV and the wall.

Strict lines, neutral shades, laconic facades, an interior where rare decor items coexist with extremely functional furniture – minimalism, like no other style, is suitable for creating a bright and not overloaded with details interior of a one-room apartment

The third idea is a podium as a way to hide a sleeping place

How to make a podium bed with your own hands, we already wrote in one of our articles. In a one-room apartment, such a design can be a panacea for the lack of free space for installing a spacious closet or double bed.

The last option is the most convenient for one-room apartments, because you will definitely find a place for a sofa to watch TV or receive guests, but not always for a double bed or a sleeping place for guests.

Of course, a podium with a hidden bed will have to be built to order or on your own, you will have to purchase a convenient and reliable system for “rolling up” the bed under the flooring, materials for finishing the top and a good mattress. However, all these expenses will be more than paid off by convenience – you just have to pull out the drawer and the already made bed is at your service – as well as saving space incomparable with other methods.

On the podium itself, a recreation area, a workplace or a playpen can be located, but the sleeping place will be securely hidden inside the structure during the day

    Fourth idea – transforming furniture

Another invention created specifically for small rooms. In large houses, there is simply no need for such multifunctional or “masquerading” furniture – here the table is just a table, and the bed is just a bed. For modest “odnushki” this option is not suitable – since the room itself performs many functions, then the furniture should be appropriate.

What is worth buying for the only living room of the apartment:

    1. A sofa bed with a spacious drawer for linen and other things. A surprising number of useful items are placed in a drawer under the sofa, ranging from pillows to winter shoes “hidden” for the summer. Well, you can’t do without a sleeping place that develops for the day in the “odnushka” at all.
    2. Chair-bed. An excellent “safety” option for a friend who decides to stay the night. And it doesn’t take up much space, and you can sleep comfortably. By the way, for a child who has already grown out of the playpen, but lives with his parents in the same room, it is also perfect.
    3. Table-cabinet, a table that “leaves” from under the bed, just a folding or folding table for a family dinner, working at a computer and receiving guests.
    4. A bed that “hides” in a closet for the day, turns into a table, an ordinary sofa, rises to the ceiling, and so on.

The only disadvantage of such transforming furniture is its high cost, since reliable models simply cannot be cheap. In addition, transformers often have to be ordered in advance so that they meet the general style of the room and its size.

At night – a full bed, during the day – a sofa and shelves for books. This is what a transforming bed looks like in business

Fifth idea – a closet with open shelves as an option for dividing the space

One of the most successful zoning options for the only living room in the house is the use of shelving or cabinets with open shelves. Such structures will not be a serious obstacle to sunlight, but at the same time they will reliably hide, for example, the owner’s bed or the child’s bed.

If a closet that rises almost to the ceiling seems too bulky for you or interferes with an effective natural lighting system, you can choose relatively low structures. In general, it is enough that the rack is flush with the headboard, sofa or playpen, which will be hidden behind its shelves.

The advantages of such structures include their mobility – if desired, the rack can be easily moved to another place, as well as the ability to use open shelves on both sides. And the main drawback can be considered precisely openness – the rack turns into an exhibition of books or souvenirs, it will not work to store various household trifles on the shelves.

A light rack with open shelves made it possible to allocate a separate cozy sleeping area on the territory of the room

The sixth idea is a screen, a light partition, a curtain

You can divide the space of a “odnushka” into several functional zones not only with the help of a rack or a cabinet with open shelves. Designers suggest using all kinds of screens for these purposes, light mobile or stationary partitions, curtains and even carpets.

One of the easiest ways to quickly organize an isolated sleeping and relaxing area is to use chipboard boards that are connected to each other with piano hinges. Such a screen can first be pasted over with the same wallpaper that decorated the walls of the entire room. You can also play in contrast and choose a brighter shade of paint or wallpaper with a different pattern to finish a light partition. When creating such a screen, the edges of the plates are pasted over with the same wallpaper or covered with paint matched to the tone.

Glass partitions are not very popular because of the too cold, office appearance, but high-tech fans will do just fine.

Another option for dividing a room is a bar counter, which, moreover, can become not only a place for receiving guests, but also a work desk.

Branch screen will immediately give the room an exotic style, and if such an interior is not to your taste, you can replace it with a thick fabric curtain

The seventh idea is to add a balcony or loggia

In a cramped one-room apartment, adding a loggia or balcony becomes literally a dream of the owners, although it requires additional costs, as well as coordination of redevelopment.

However, all these costs and efforts are paid off by the appearance of a cozy separate or completely connected area with a room where you can place a bed, a computer desk, a children’s play area, and so on.

A less expensive way to add a balcony or loggia is not to demolish the entire wall, leaving the existing window sill, which can become a table, aquarium stand or bar counter.

In any case, you should consider the heating system of the attached area and arrange it in the main style chosen for the entire room.

Eighth idea – options for placing a crib

A one-room apartment is a good option for a young couple or a person who has not yet had time to start a family. But cases when a family with one or two children lives in the “odnushka” are far from uncommon.

In such a situation, one of the main problems of the owners is the placement of a children’s bed. Consider a few options and design tips:

    1. If the room already has a niche or an alcove, it is in this cozy corner that you should place a bed for a child. A light curtain – and the niche will become a separate children’s bedroom. In some apartments, in such originally planned alcoves, not only a bunk bed is placed, but also a small desk.
    2. Experts do not advise placing a baby bed by the window – a draft, too bright sunlight, a hot radiator – such a neighborhood cannot be called useful for a child.
    3. A long elongated room can be divided visually or with the help of screens and partitions into two zones – for children and adults. Sometimes, to highlight the corner of the child, it is enough to place a bright rug in this part of the room. And let it be the adult zone that will be a walk-through, so that the baby, who usually goes to bed before his parents, does not bother anything.
    4. The baby bed can also be placed on the podium.
    5. A loft bed that leaves enough space on the lower bunk for a computer desk or play area – great for a studio apartment.
    6. For the first time, a playpen installed by the parents’ bed is quite enough for a newborn. And it will be possible to create a full-fledged children’s corner for an already grown up baby who needs a real bed.

This room already has a niche where the playpen fits perfectly. This option can be called optimal, and if you hang a light curtain in the opening, then the nursery will turn into a cozy and hidden corner from prying eyes

Ninth idea – optimal color scheme

Designers are unanimous in terms of color solutions and recommend choosing an interior designed in neutral tones, with occasional splashes of bright tones. Using different shades, you can emphasize the division of a room into separate zones, visually expand the space by choosing light colors, so you should not underestimate the importance of colors in creating a comfortable interior.

Ceiling should definitely be preferred in plain, light beige, white, light green or pale yellow. Remember that dark corners and walls will make a small room even cramped, so these options should be avoided.

You should not get carried away and decorate the interior in one single color scheme. In a room with pink curtains, light red walls and a scarlet sofa, even a very balanced person will feel uncomfortable. It is better to choose two or three primary colors that blend perfectly with each other. The following combinations are considered classic: beige and chocolate, pink and white, yellow and blue, brown and green, mustard and terracotta, blue and gray. In general, white color goes well with all shades, but bright red, blue and dark green in the interior should not be much.

The cheerful sofa looks especially bright and cozy against neutral walls. In such a bright room, even rich dark furniture would be appropriate.

The tenth idea is a properly equipped lighting system

One light source in such a multifunctional room will not be enough. Imagine a situation when you want to read, and the second half is already sleeping – the light of a large chandelier will definitely interfere with it.

When setting up a lighting system in the only living room of an apartment, one should be guided by a simple principle – each functional area needs its own lighting device. Do not forget about the wall lamp near the bed and work desk, a night light or a dimmed lamp near the crib, and so on.

It is necessary, of course, to create a room lighting scheme even at the repair stage, if necessary, you should contact a specialist and take care of reliable wiring. And remember that lighting fixtures should be combined not only with the main style of the interior of the room, but also with each other. Many manufacturers offer chandeliers and sconces with the same shades – this choice will not make a mistake with the design.

In principle, a massive chandelier with numerous shades can be abandoned altogether, it is better to create a spot lighting system.

Spotlights, sconces above the bed – the lighting system of a one-room apartment should be as thoughtful as possible. Lack of light can be as much of a problem as a huge chandelier that is too bright.

Arranging the only living room in the house requires a special approach. Often, in pursuit of maximum functionality, the owners forget about beauty and harmony, about the basic principles of creating a cozy interior. We hope that our advice will be useful to those who plan to turn their modest “odnushka” into an attractive and comfortable home.

We associate a small one-room apartment, first of all, with an uncomfortable and cramped dwelling with low ceilings. Owners of typical “odnushki” often complain about the lack of free space and the lack of additional rooms. However, modern technologies make it possible to organize the design of such apartments in such a way that there is enough space for everything you need, but it turns into a multifunctional room with several zones.
How to equip a one-room apartment and make it a spacious comfortable room?

But not everyone will like this idea. Combining the living room and kitchen has its drawbacks. In this case, there is another way out – the space can be expanded only visually, using various techniques: the play of light, facing materials, zoning, etc.
A glossy ceiling with a lot of lights is perfect here, from which the room will seem much wider and larger than it is. Another alternative is a two-level plasterboard ceiling with neon lighting. A prerequisite for the “odnushka” – light colors with transitions and soft lines. it is quite possible to realize in a small one-room apartment.

A one-room apartment is usually a room that has a small area. To create comfort and arrangement, the design of the apartment is necessary. You will need the right selection of decor, the choice of all the details for the interior, take into account the features of the entire room.

Design of a one-room apartment, the purpose of the design is to expand the area of the apartment. To do this, you will need:

    • Demolish the partitions between the corridor, the room and the kitchen.
    • Paint the walls in light colors.
    • Install light furniture.
    • Consider furniture dimensions.
    • Combination of a bathroom.

Applying these methods when designing an apartment, you will achieve a good result in increasing the area of the room.

How to maximize the use of space

When designing a one-room apartment, the question often arises. How to make everything convenient and practical, but so that the room is not cluttered? Don’t give up on wardrobes. Effectively, with the greatest benefit, use the niches available in the apartment, connect the balcony to the creation of the design, insulating it in advance, hang shelves. For storage, there are a number of modern systems that allow you to create rooms for your wardrobe, small in size.

    Choice of color

Color plays the main role in the interior of the apartment, so take your time to look at the photo of the design of a one-room apartment and think about what color of the room you want. It is desirable that the walls are light colors, but not monotonous, add photo wallpaper, decorative plaster in darker shades.

    Design Features

The design of a small one-room apartment is a free layout of the apartment, it is now popular, however, some subtleties must be taken into account in interior design. It is required to divide the room into functional zones. To do this, use a mobile partition light curtains, floor level. For example, equip the kitchen on the podium, hide the sleeping area behind a low partition or a light light curtain. Do not be afraid, experiment, everything is in your hands.

    Apartment design project

Apartment design is its heart, zest and that individual note that distinguishes your home from thousands of other apartments and houses. It will most eloquently tell about your tastes and preferences. In order for your home to be individual, it is necessary to develop a design project for the apartment before carrying out repairs. First of all, it is necessary to take into account the footage and the number of rooms. So the design project of a one-room apartment will have its own specifics. He must take into account the fact that a one-room apartment in one room should contain both a living room and a bedroom, and often a dining room and an office. This helps the correct arrangement of light and color. Such a project begins with the definition of the functional purpose of each zone in the apartment and the general concept. In accordance with this, it is planned to arrange lighting fixtures, and then a choice of furniture in one style or another is made. Based on this, lighting solutions also vary.

A professional approach to the development of an apartment design project

It is very important that a professional is involved in the design of a one-room apartment project. You can, of course, take as a basis ready-made apartment designs with an already proven methodology and practical experience in their arrangement, but there are times when ready-made design projects are not suitable. So, for example, a client can make individuality and exclusivity the main goal of the project, but it will be impossible to adapt an existing design project to a specific living space, and then it will be necessary to develop individual design projects.

The interior of apartments can be very different:

    • richly decorated;
    • simple;
    • minimum;
    • functional.

Everything is selected according to the wishes of the customer, and this should be done by a professional designer. He can take into account all the technical subtleties.

The visual effect of apartment design

The development of apartment design has two goals:

    • maximum comfort,
    • visual effect.

If you have a small apartment, for example, a two-room apartment with low ceilings, and you often invite guests, it is necessary to set a goal for the designer to make your apartment more comfortable, functional, versatile and improve the visual effect. Thus, a design project for a two-room apartment should include:

    • visual expansion of space;
    • visual increase in ceiling height;
    • achieving increased comfort.

    Apartment redevelopment design

If necessary, it is possible to develop a design project for a one-room apartment with redevelopment. Sometimes this measure is absolutely necessary to make housing more comfortable, adapted to the needs of a particular owner. So, for example, a two-room apartment can be turned into a three-room apartment. This is very useful if a large family lives in the house, there are children. In fact, redevelopment does not increase housing meters, but helps to zone the premises, increase the number of rooms and provide each family member with personal space.

And if you need the design of a small one-room apartment, then the designer can bring to life the most daring ideas, turn on the imagination to the maximum, use the latest cutting-edge technologies, equip a three-room apartment or house with the latest technology and in accordance with the most fashionable trends.

It helps to introduce design ideas, bring elements of luxury, wealth and, of course, comfort into the house. Ready-made apartment design projects will not be as bright and original as a custom-made project, which includes all the wishes of the customer, adapted to a specific room. See a photo of the design of a one-room apartment in order to accurately establish your decision.

    Conclusion of cooperation

To develop a beautiful apartment design, you must have an approved design project in your hands. To do this, the customer and the contractor create and agree on the terms of reference, in which all the wishes of the customer are entered, then an agreement is concluded, according to which the terms and obligations of both parties are indicated. The development of a document involves not only the content of the written wishes of the customer, but also various schemes, drawings, layouts. Before the implementation of the project, the designer coordinates all the points with the customer, makes the last changes, after which the design project is approved and its concrete implementation begins.

One-room apartment design, design ideas for 1-room apartments with photo

One-room apartments are an interesting object for design, as specialists have the opportunity to create a unique interior in a limited space using non-standard design techniques and solutions.

Modern spacious areas, small odnushki in panel buildings or miniature Khrushchev – any version of a one-room apartment is equally demanding on the functional zoning of space and interior design, corresponding to modern trends in design.

The design of each type of apartment requires compliance with various nuances, but it is worth highlighting the general rules for arranging apartments of this type.

    Planning solution

The most popular layout option for small-sized housing is open. This means combining several small rooms into one. The purpose of this technique is to create a living space of sufficient size for comfortable movement and residence of family members.

In the case of redevelopment in one-room apartments of standard panel buildings and Khrushchev, their legislative and technical feasibility is of great importance. Therefore, you cannot do without an experienced specialist in this field. However, even excluding global changes in the design features of finished housing, designers will be able to offer you interesting options:

    • individual layout of the bathroom in a one-room apartment: installation of a shower room in addition to a bath, zonal separation for spa treatments and a toilet, expansion of the bathroom due to the adjoining pantry, placement of spacious cabinets in the bathroom for storing towels, bathrobes and other accessories, installation of built-in washing and drying machines;
    • changing the functional affiliation of the loggia with the placement and design of a home office, patio area or winter garden on it:
    • location in existing niches of one-room wardrobe systems, a bed, a desktop and shelving:

One-room apartments in modern houses, as a rule, initially have spacious rooms and an open layout, which means combining a kitchen area with a living room, and sometimes an entrance hall.

When developing a planning solution within the framework of the design project of such a space, the needs and wishes and composition of family members are taken into account. Designers are working on a functional zonal division of a room in an apartment, taking into account the interests and lifestyle of the household. Unlike small living space, spacious rooms require more detailed zoning and division of the common territory into separate areas.

    Colors and finishes

The pastel palette in interior design is the best canvas for creating harmonious interiors in apartments.

Modern wall finishing materials are available in numerous variants: plaster, wallpaper, paint, wall panels. When choosing a color scheme, stop at light shades: milky, beige, white, light gray, dusty pastel shades of powdery, apple green, weightless blue, peach, olive.

The bright interior of the apartment is not at all boring and monotonous. The use of color accents is even desirable, but they will be single and skillfully placed by a specialist. With their help, you can highlight separate zones, or focus on individual pieces of furniture and decor.

Finishing in light colors allows you to focus on luxurious chandeliers and non-standard furniture details.

If an undesirable view of the room opens from the front door, decorate the walls of the hallway with wallpaper with an expressive pattern. It will draw the attention of visitors to itself, thus visually preserving the privacy of the living space.

When developing a design project for spacious areas in apartments, it is permissible to choose a slightly darker palette of chocolate, gray, dusty colors, while in a room of less than 20 square meters they will look heavy, visually reducing valuable free space.

Living room decorated with dark furniture pieces

If you want to emphasize the geometry of the space, the laconicism of the wall decoration can be diluted with accent moldings, a darker shade of the floor covering, and contrasting trim of door and window openings.

Feel free to use mirror elements in the decoration. They fill the room with volume, due to the refraction of light they create an additional visual expansion of the space and are a unique element in the design of one-room apartments.

Pay attention to the entrance doors with a mirror, which will visually enlarge the entrance area. Place mirrored wall paintings in front of the windows in the room, the room will become much lighter.

    Room zoning

Whatever the area of one-room apartments, the only living space must be designed as functionally as possible. It should be comfortable to relax in front of the TV, engage in your favorite hobby, work, receive guests during the day and recover at night. Each of the classes requires a separate, albeit small, zone.

As part of the design project of a one-room apartment, smart zoning of housing is being worked out with special care. With it, you can delimit the room into visually separate sections, while leaving the common space of the room as a single territory.

Many design techniques are used to highlight zonal spheres:

    • zoning with partitions

Structures that serve as room dividers can be made of plasterboard sheets. It is used to radically divide a room and create a virtual room within a room. This method is often used to equip a separate sleeping area in the living room or divide one room into two.

Rack systems, depending on their density, allow you to visually divide the space and are a harmonious accent in Scandinavian-style interiors, loft and minimalism.

Luxurious partitions made of glass sheets in technological and minimalist one-room apartments make zoning weightless while reliably protecting isolated areas from extraneous noise and odors.

Sliding structures are canvases that, if necessary, cover part of the room from the rest of the space. When choosing this zoning option, give preference to options with frosted glass or mirrors, as they are visually lighter than deaf canvases.

    • furniture zoning

With the help of through shelving, you can successfully allocate an area for work in a common room. A sofa set back to a work or dining table encloses the lounge area, while a designer high-back chair, placed away from other pieces of furniture, isolates a place for reading or hobbies.

With the help of a mobile screen, in the necessary situation, you can create an area invisible to the rest of those present.

By placing a TV set on the border of the furnished areas of the bedroom and living room in a one-room apartment, you will divide the room and, depending on the need, will be able to spend time watching movies both on the sofa and relaxing in bed.

The bar counter separates the kitchen area from the living room.

    • zoning with light

The division of the territory in the apartment with the help of light sources allows you to visually highlight and highlight individual parts of the room. Sconces located above the sofa, a cozy floor lamp near a freestanding armchair, a ceiling lamp above the dining table, lowered suspensions for a bar counter or bedside tables, a track light aimed at a desktop are zoning methods. In the conditions of a small living space, they are the most in demand, as they do not make the space heavier, but give it volume and divide it into separate sections.

    • zoning with finishing

An interesting design solution is the allocation of zones in a one-room apartment using a combination of different color areas, textures and textures of finishing materials.

It is possible to highlight the area of the desktop or the location of the dining group with a more saturated shade on the walls. The head of the bed is decorated with contrasting wallpaper, slatted construction, wall panels. The kitchen area is emphasized with ceramics and marble against the background of parquet or laminate in the living room.

With the help of ceiling structures it is possible to zone the living space in an original way. Here, color contrasts and differences in levels are used. In this way, you can highlight the area of \u200b\u200bthe bed in a room or kitchen area. By lowering the ceiling level at the border of the zones, you will visually emphasize their separation.

    Functional furniture

The relevance of multifunctional items in the interior is indisputable. In modest square meters of one-room apartment, they save free space necessary for a full-fledged pastime in an apartment, and in luxurious spacious rooms, they are unique technological innovations that come in handy more than ever in the third decade of the 21st century.

Modern production offers a wide range of transforming pieces of furniture:

    • wardrobe-beds
    • folding tiered coffee tables
    • functional dining tables with the possibility of increasing the seats
    • electric sofa beds
    • 360 degree functional TV stands with built-in sound system
    • upholstered furniture with a built-in bar, massage apparatus, speakers for listening to music
    • loft beds with remote control, allowing you to store a resting place under the ceiling during the day
    • walk-in closets containing built-in items for drying clothes, ironing, deodorizing
    • electric beds for adjusting the orthopedic base for an individual and correct body position during sleep and much more.

All technological features are designed to maximize the space of the room and provide the owner with impeccable comfort.

A rack with compartments for storing equipment and books not only saves space, but also expands it due to mirror elements.

    The restraint of decorative details

It is difficult to imagine a truly cozy living space without decorative interior items. It can be vases, clocks, cushions, paintings. However, in living conditions in a one-room apartment, you should pay attention to the amount of decor.

If you are a collector, set aside a separate place, shelf or cabinet for your items of interest. Figurines, souvenirs, figurines placed everywhere give the room an excessive volume and reduce free space.

To make the design of a one-room apartment look stylish, it is enough to place two or three decorative objects in it:

    • Place a piece of modern or classical art in the room, depending on the style of design.
    • A wall panel can become the central author’s accent of the room.
    • Graceful floor vases will support the style of the interior of the apartment.

The textile component is also important. Clothing for windows can be an elegant addition to the space, or it can create oppressive twilight. When choosing curtains, give preference to light curtains that let in daylight. With their help, it is easy to fill the room with volume without concealing its dimensions. Refuse massive lambrequins and multi-tiered curtains if the room has small windows and its area is less than 30 square meters. Conciseness and the absence of lush details in this case would be more appropriate.

Modern interior with bright single decor

    Actual interiors 2022

Modern interior design of one-room apartments actively promotes environmental friendliness, which in turn means reasonable consumption and maximum naturalness in everything. Rooms are at the height of fashion, not overloaded with details and created with the help of natural materials: natural wood, fabrics, stone, living plants.

    Minimalism

One of the most sought-after areas in a small living area. Monochromatic surface finishes, simple geometry of functional pieces of furniture and light sources, discreet decor – the design of a one-room apartment in a minimalist style implies the presence of only the necessary without unnecessary details and lush fittings.

Maximum conciseness of the minimalist space of a one-room apartment

    Urban style

Life in a modern metropolis is reflected in the interiors of apartments. Young people often choose the loft as the main stylistic direction of their own home, which is characterized by deliberate roughness of finishes and an industrial appearance.

Brick walls with emphasized imperfection of masonry details, forged metal in the bases of upholstered furniture, cabinet furniture and light sources. Large window openings with simple textiles.

You can soften the design of a one-room apartment in the urban style by placing a wall with vertical gardening, decorative elements in the form of frames with photographs, posters, paintings with works by contemporary artists.

Urban appearance of a one-room apartment in a metropolis

    Neoclassical

The design of the apartment in a modern version of the classic style is characterized by a more concise design and less festive decoration compared to its predecessor.

The decoration uses luxurious marble, elegant laminate, high ceilings may contain elements of stucco molding, decorated with moldings. Light sources have many options, both classic images with crystal, and modern discreet geometry of directional light.

The style is suitable for spacious interiors of one-room apartments, and therefore is a popular request among owners of modern housing.

Stylish modern classic in the interior of the living room

    Eclectic

A term denoting a combination of several styles within one space. This design of a modern apartment allows you not to adhere to strict compliance with one style in the interior, but to add your favorite details of a different nature to the chosen main image. In this case, the combination can be both shocking and calmly harmonious. The main thing is a sense of proportion. To avoid stylistic chaos, it is not recommended to combine more than two or three directions.
