Modern roofing – TECHNONICOL

Proper arrangement of the roof is a responsible task. The security of the house of noise, precipitation, dust and temperature changes directly depends on the choice of material and compliance with the installation technology. Today, there are many roofs available: hard, soft and metal. In this case, choosing a material can be quite difficult, so the main thing is to rely on the following criteria:

  • light weight – reduces the load on the structure, simplifies transportation;
  • easy installation – does not require the use of professional tools;
  • efficiency – low cost combined with low consumption of materials;
  • resistance to any impact;
  • attractive appearance – the aesthetics of the roof must be maintained for the entire period of operation;
  • environmental and fire safety;
  • durability – the service life of a roof can reach up to 60 years!

Of course, the ideal roofing material does not exist. But if it meets these characteristics, then it is quite suitable for arranging a roof. Let’s consider each of them in more detail.

Roofing bitumen-polymer and bituminous materials Flexible tiles Composite tiles

Roll media

TECHNONICOL company produces rolled roof coverings according to new generation standards. In accordance with modern technology, materials are fused onto a fiberglass or polyester base. It is considered traditional and is suitable for covering flat pitched roofs with an angle of inclination of less than 45 degrees.

The advantages of rolled roofing materials include:

  • optimum waterproofing in all climatic conditions;
  • low cost;
  • strength and durability throughout the entire service life;
  • roofing quality control at every stage of production.

Depending on the type of roof and operating conditions, both budget and premium roll materials are available. The most affordable options for professional construction are the ECONOMY and STANDARD lines with a service life of 10-15 years. Rolled roofing coverings of the BUSINESS and PREMIUM series are characterized by an extended service life – 25-30 years.

Shingles

Flexible tile SHINGLAS is intended for arrangement of a roof on a solid, rigid and even base. This small piece soft material does not fade and remains resistant to harmful atmospheric influences. Protected from corrosion and decay. And most importantly, it is suitable for any climatic zones: from extremely cold to extremely high temperatures.

Among the advantages of the material are:

  • easy fastening with roofing nails to solid plank decking;
  • large selection of shapes and colors;
  • economy – minimum waste;
  • low weight reduces the load on the structure;
  • service life is from 20 to 60 years depending on the series.

These properties, together with an attractive appearance, make soft shingles one of the most popular roofing materials. However, its main purpose is private cottage housing construction.

Composite tile

Composite tiles are a universal roofing material with high decorative and operational qualities. Due to the production technology, it combines the beauty of natural stone and the durability of a metal alloy. Externally, the composite imitates natural tiles, but surpasses it in a number of parameters, therefore it is considered an elite roofing material.

For those who choose the most advanced technologies, TECHNONICOL produces LUXARD metal tiles. It combines a technological composition of aluzinc with natural stone granules, providing increased strength and durability. In addition, composite tiles:

  • effectively absorbs noise;
  • is suitable for roofs even with minimal pitch;
  • is resistant to external influences, scratches, corrosion;
  • does not allow leaks at the joints;
  • has an optimal flow rate with a minimum of waste;
  • is environmentally friendly.

The most popular composite tile for arranging the roofs of country houses, cottages and townhouses. Depending on the type, the coating naturally imitates ceramics, clay, wood. If desired, with its help, you can create a roof even in the Mediterranean style.

What material should I choose for roofing?

For flat structures and exploited roofs, roll materials are best suited. All other coatings should be used for pitched roofs inclined at an angle of 10 degrees. For roofs with a slope of 20 degrees, piece materials are suitable. For complex structures – soft tiles. But the main thing is that the roofing has high performance and beautiful appearance.

What would you call a house without a roof? Box? Building? Indeed, if a building has no roof, then it is difficult to call it a house. It plays an important role in the organization of the whole house. And one of the main components of the roof structure are materials for the roof. What can be said about them? Over time, the coverage of the house has changed. Technology is advancing, there are even more products, and their quality is improving. What can you choose from?

Does everything end with slate or corrugated board? In fact, the range of roofing materials is very large. And in this article, we will look at each roofing for the manufacture of roofs.

Coating requirements

Any roofing product must meet certain requirements. Here are seven criteria by which products can be judged:

  1. Waterproof. It is important that the coating does not allow moisture to pass through. After all, heat-insulating materials and the entire roof structure are afraid of moisture. It can damage the entire roof.
  2. High strength. No weather effects should affect the coating.
  3. Frost resistance. Whatever the sharp temperature drop, the roofing deck must withstand it without wearing out quickly.
  4. Well, when the coating absorbs all the noise. Otherwise, you will clearly hear rain, wind, etc.
  5. Articles must be free from chemicals and micro-organisms.
  6. Long service life. The minimum indicator is 10 years. It’s better when the number is higher. In addition, installation does not have to be difficult.
  7. No less important is the decorative part. The coating is always in sight, so the roofing materials for the roof should look beautiful.

Please note! Even better, if the coating can be easily maintained and repaired.

Types of materials

There are a lot of types of roofing, but they are all divided into four groups:

  • soft bitumen roofing: bitumen-based roll products, self-leveling, bituminous tiles, self-adhesive and all kinds of polymer membranes;
  • metal roofing: flat and profile sheets, metal tiles, seam roofing, corrugated board;
  • polymer roofing: polycarbonate, composite tiles, euroslate, plexiglass;
  • mineral roofing: porcelain stoneware or types of artificial ceramics.

And now let’s proceed to a detailed analysis of a particular roofing product in order to find out in more detail the types of roofing materials for the roof.

Ceramic tiles

Roofing material is made from clay mass. It is formed and fired in a special oven at a temperature of 1000 ˚C. The result is a natural reddish-brown color. Some types are covered with a protective glazed film. It is applied even before fire treatment. Thanks to it, atmospheric precipitation is better removed from the surface.

When finished, this is a small tile, the minimum size of which is 30×30 cm. Its weight starts from 2 kg. Ceramic tiles are available in different varieties. It all depends on the production method and the position of the tiles on the roof. Materials are:

  • flat belt;
  • slotted tape;
  • slotted stamped;
  • single wave;
  • with two waves;
  • grooved, etc.

These pitched roof materials are used for pitches between 30 and 60˚. Fastening between the tiles occurs through a system of locks, and it is fixed to the roof through special holes. It turns out that the roof tiles cover part of the lower layer. This keeps the roof from leaking. Quality material will last more than 100 years.

Use ceramic tiles for a wooden, brick or stone house, regardless of the number of storeys. It is silent, durable and beautiful. The disadvantage of coverage is a very high cost.

Cement-sand tiles

The weight of ceramic tiles is quite impressive. In order to reduce the weight of the material for covering the roof, cement-sand elements have been developed. It is not fired, but the finished solution is pressed. Weight of 1 m 2 is 35–45 kg. The material consists of cement, sand and iron oxide. The latter acts as a dye. The type of products does not differ from ceramic products.

Tiles are produced in flat and profiled tiles, with and without glaze. The recommended slope of the roof slope at which the material can be mounted is 20–60˚. Installation takes place in rows on a crate with dressing. In this case, the previous row of tiles is shifted by half the width. The material is fastened to the grate with nails, through ready-made holes. Pleased with a large selection of colors. Over the years, the roofing material becomes stronger and stronger without losing its properties. The cost is also high.

The material is silent, frost-resistant, durable and reliable, does not leak.

Bituminous tiles

The material belongs to soft roofing. The basis is fiberglass or cellulose. They are covered with polyester and dyed in the desired color. It is a good and reliable roofing material. The sheets are flexible and must be laid on a continuous crate. Installation is easy: the shingles are glued to the base, as the bitumen-rubber coating glues the material to the crate, and under the scorching sun, adhesion only improves. The coating is noiseless and monolithic. Provides good thermal insulation.

The material is sold in shingles – small sheets (from 30 cm). The weight of the roofing material per 1 m 2 is from 8 to 12 kg, which is very good. The shape of the petals is very different:

  • triangles;
  • rectangles;
  • oval and round.

The color range is quite large. The material is plastic and weather resistant. The roof will be silent.

Please note! Due to its flexibility, shingles can cover any complex roof structure.

Used for slopes with a minimum slope of 12˚. There is no maximum value. Sphere of use: cottages, private houses, arbors, garages and public buildings. The price of the material pleases.

Metal tile

Galvanized steel sheet, covered with several protective and decorative layers. Their number and connection depends on the manufacturer. But there must be a zinc protective layer and a polymer coating. Depending on the top layer, the surface can be smooth and shiny or matte.

The texture of a metal tile resembles a ceramic one. But, they are completely different. Metal roofing comes in the form of large steel sheets, not tiles. The invoice can be different, as well as the sizes. Used for roofs with a slope of 15˚. Due to the fact that the material is rigid, it is problematic to cover complex structures with it.

Please note! If the roof slope is up to 20%, then it is important to seal the joints.

The material is easy to install. Sheets are fixed with nails or self-tapping screws for the roof. The device will require a regular crate, with a step identical to the wave of the sheet. Vertical overlap – not less than 25 cm, horizontal – in one wave. The use of roofing material is unlimited. The disadvantage is the noise of the metal and the property of rusting. And so, the coating is durable, there are many colors, it looks beautiful and lasts a long time. The price is low.

Slate

Good old friend! Previously, it was used almost everywhere and by everyone. It is made on the basis of a cement-composite material reinforced with asbestos fibers. The ratio of Portland cement to asbestos is 85% to 15%. Produced in sheets, has a rectangular shape. Wavy, 1 profile accounts for 6 waves. Standard dimensions: 120×70 cm, with a wave height of 2.8 cm. Weight is not too large – 10–15 kg/m 2

The recommended roof slope is 12 to 60˚. In general, this is a widespread material, known to everyone. As time goes on, the slate is replaced with new roofing materials. However, due to its low cost, they continue to cover minor buildings: a barn, a summer kitchen, a utility block.

Decking

One of the simplest types of metal cladding. It was the forerunner of metal roofing and was often used to cover roofs. In addition, it is a universal material from which fences are made and the facade is sheathed. These are profiled sheets made of galvanized steel. Sheets may or may not be coated with a polymer coating. Waves on a sheet come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Due to the waves, it is easy to join the roof elements, and the finished coating is attractive.

The minimum slope for roofing with corrugated board is 10˚. For mounting on the rafters, a crate is stuffed, with a step identical to the step of the waves. Fastening is carried out by means of self-tapping screws. Approximately 7 pieces are required for 1 m 2 . Joints are made with an overlap of 20 cm and filled with bitumen sealant. The material is noisy and can rust. Roofs are covered with them, but not often. Usually these are sheds, garages, sheds, utility rooms, etc. The price of the material is low.

Steel rebate roof

As a roofing material, smooth steel sheets, the edges of which have a certain bend. On the seam roof, water flows quickly, and without lingering, even if the slope is small. Steel sheet can be either galvanized or not, with or without polymer coating. Used when the slope is not less than 20˚.

At the heart of a seam roof is the connection of sheets to each other by means of a seam. The material is fastened to the crate with clamps, and with an adjacent sheet with a seam connection. It turns out a completely sealed seam that does not let water through. The crate for a folded roof is usually staggered, with a step of 20–40 cm. There are four types of folded joints, which you will see in the photo below.

The seam is rolled up with a special tool, manual or electric. It is used to cover houses, estates, temples and industrial buildings. The material is inexpensive, strong, durable, airtight, light and resistant. In order not to hear the sound of rain and wind, you need to make a substrate.

Copper and aluminum seam roof

These materials are not cheap. But their service life is very high. The roofing material is durable, strong, beautiful, does not corrode, light and reliable. Copper for roofing is produced in sheets with a thickness starting from 0.3 mm, a width of 70 cm and a length of 110 cm. The mass is small – only 5–10 kg / m 2 . And aluminum is even lighter – 2–5 kg/m 2 . Materials are used with a roof slope of 15˚.

Only installed copper will not retain its color for long. Carbon dioxide, steam and compounds in the atmosphere will give the material a special green color. It comes from patina. This is a carbonate film, due to which copper does not rust, is resistant to UV rays and damage. Aluminum will also be covered with an oxide protective film. It is important that at sub-zero temperatures, copper will not lose its ductility. Installation is done according to the same scheme as with a steel seam roof.

Bituminous slate

Since this roofing element contains bitumen, it is flexible and soft. At the heart of cellulose fibers, which are impregnated with bitumen. The roofing sheet is treated with pigments and mineral additives. Due to the heat treatment of the roofing element under pressure, its strength increases. These roofing elements are also called flexible slate. Bitumen sheets have a wavy shape and are used at a record angle of 5˚. Installation is carried out with an overlap.

The size of one sheet is 2×1 m, it all depends on the manufacturer. For the device of the roof, a continuous crate is made of flexible slate and a waterproofing substrate is laid. They cover both houses and other buildings. The use of material on domed or arched structures is not possible.

Natural roof

In this case, natural materials are used. What exactly?

  1. Straw.
  2. Sod roof.
  3. Kamysh.
  4. Tree.

This type of roof was used by our grandfathers. We can say that today the method of constructing a roof with these materials is outdated. But, such a roof is 100% environmentally friendly and does not harm the environment. Although such a roof is not made for private houses, it is suitable for exclusive places. For example, they cover commercial and cultural buildings: a restaurant, hotel, bar or museum.

Practice shows that a reed roof in a restaurant or bar attracts more people. Neon advertisements and signs with bright facades are resting. In addition, the coating is also suitable for arranging a country house. If you are a nature lover and enjoy the beauty of your garden, which is overgrown with plants, then such a house with a thatched roof will be a great addition to the whole composition. This roofing material is used exclusively for decorative purposes. There is no need to talk about fire safety and moisture absorption.

To summarize

This is not all types of material for the roof of the house. Every year, manufacturing technology improves, and new products appear that are getting better and better. Old coatings are becoming a thing of the past, and new ones are gaining more and more consumers. Each type of coverage has its pros and cons. When choosing, it is important to compare the positive and negative sides, as well as listen to the recommendations of the consultant in the store. Such a variety of materials cannot but rejoice.
