20 Best DIY Pallet Bed Frame Ideas to Update Your Bedroom in 2021

Ah, the elusive DIY pallet bed frame idea, it is minimalist and rustic with just a hint of farmhouse chic. A handmade pallet bed frame is just about as easy to make look bad as it is to make it look good. What’s a weekend warrior to do? Fortunately, when it comes to pallet design ideas, the difference between an epic fail and a DIY bedroom paradise is a little vision and guidance. That’s why we’ve pulled together 20 fabulous looks to help you achieve the perfect DIY pallet home decoration look in your bedroom.

20 Super-Cute DIY Pallet Bed Frame Ideas to Update Your Bedroom on a Budget

One thing you should know before jumping into a pallet project is that you’ll need some basic tools to pull it off. At an absolute minimum you should have a power drill and wood screws and sanding paper to smooth the wood. Some other stuff you may need (depending on the look you’re going for) is paint or wood stain, a hammer, and metal brackets to screw into the wood and hold certain angles in place (like for a headboard).

The most important thing to know before diving into a homemade pallet bed frame project is that you’ve totally got this! Pallets come with some structure on their own, so it’s more or less a simple game of Tetris to put the pieces together in a way that looks great with your home decor.

If you love farmhouse, then consider painting your pallet white for a cute look. If you have a more organic, minimalist style, then consider leaving the wood in its raw state or adding a little stain so the grain shows through. If you love traditional decor, then staining or painting your pallet a darker color will make it look extra elegant. Now, grab your power drill and let’s get to decorating! Here are 20 gorgeous and versatile DIY pallet bed frame ideas to inspire you.

It’s time to get creative! I’ve rounded up the best pallet bed frames and beds ideas for your home. This DIY project will not only be budget-friendly but can also add a rustic charm to any room in your house. Who said you need an expensive headboard? Rustic pallet bed? Yes, please!

With these wooden pallet bed frame projects, you find your inspiration on how to build one yourself! You’ll never spend more than $100 on a bed frame again.

A pallet bed frame is an example of a project that can be quite simple to make or can require more woodworking knowledge, depending on how you want to approach it.

It all depends if you just want to stack some prepared pallets and put a mattress on top or build a proper pallet bed frame from recycled pallet wood. A pallet headboard that is a project by its self can be added as well.

With some basic power tools like a jigsaw, circular saw, orbital sander, or power drill, you can put together a very nice project in no time.

In most basic projects, all you need to do is put some wooden pallets on one level and join them using steel flat brace brackets. If you want your bed to be higher, add another pallet level, or use a thick mattress.

Make sure the pallets are safe to use, clean and dry. Sand them with a power sander and then paint or stain depending on your preferences. Finish with a coat of poly to protect the paint/stain, and that’s it!

For a fancy look, put some LED string/strip lights underneath the bed. These are easily available on Amazon, and you can choose from a wide range of colors. For those of you who want some diversity go with a multicolor set that allows changing color to whatever you want with a push of a button. I even found some LED strips that work via Bluetooth, and you can sync them to music or Alexa(!)

I’ve collected some nice ideas for both. They look great, and I’m sure you’ll find some inspiration here 🙂

This is an example of a more sophisticated pallet bed frame project. Pallet planks are used to make the wooden pallet platform bed frame, and then bed wooden slats are used to hold the mattress.

This example of a pallet bed frame is one of the bigger ones you can make if you have room for it. It’ll take a bigger number of pallets to build one. Add some lights underneath, and you got yourself a nice chilling ambiance for your bedroom.

I like how this stained pallet wood turned out, in this case—a great example of a low-hight pallet bed frame with a pallet headboard.

Here you can see how these wood pallets are set up to make a nice small double bed. It shows that you don’t have to go overboard and use many pallets to make a bed frame.

Pallet platform bed made with recycled pallets. This bed is made using pallet wood differently. Sure it’ll take more time and skill to build one, but the final result looks awesome.

Here you have another example of the bed made with pallets. The pallets used are quite big in size, and you only have to use a single layer for it to work. To make it higher wooden blocks are used, but you could also use casters.

This simple, single pallet bed is made out of 3 pallets and has casters to make it more maneuverable.

This is a fantastic example of utilizing pallet wood to make a big bed with a headboard and some storage. Before you decide to tackle a project this size, make sure you have the skills and tools needed to make one.

I love the simplicity of this bed made from white painted pallets. As you can see, its size is enormous, so make sure you have enough bed space before putting one together.

How do you like a twin bed idea? These pallet beds would look great in your kids’ bedroom for sure.

Or maybe you need a pallet day bed for your outdoor space? You can make one in no time and use an inflatable mattress on top. What a great solution?!

Check this huge pallet bed made with euro-size pallets. You don’t even have to connect them if you are short on time. Simply arrange them in a way like in the photo above to prevent them from moving.

Pallets, or pallets, as they are also called, which are used to transport building materials, can become a strong frame for a berth. A do-it-yourself pallet bed will cost several times less than a ready-made and store-bought one.

Choice of pallet bed design

From pallets you can make a small or large single bed, as well as a huge double bed. The principle of creating this piece of furniture is the same: the same pallets are connected to each other so that a podium is obtained, on which the mattress is installed.

Do-it-yourself pallet bed can be made two-level, or low, on legs or wheels, with or without a headboard. But most importantly, correctly assemble the frame. How to make a pallet bed with your own hands?

DIY pallet bed – Master class

To make the simplest version of a pallet bed, you will need:

  • three pallets of the same size, 120 x 80 centimeters can be used
  • self-tapping screws
  • nails
  • drill
  • screwdriver
  • sandpaper
  • wood primer
  • varnish or paint
  • hammer
  • brushes
  • roller

The trays must first be cleaned of dirt and dust. To do this, you can use a broom or brush and a damp cloth.

If you are working with pallets in your country house, you can wash the pallets with a hose that is used for watering plants.

To make it easier to work, you need to take the same pallets in good condition, but if they are not, then you have to work hard to make the bed look neat.

When the pallets are dry, they can be sanded. Sandpaper is suitable for this, but if you have a special grinder, or a special brush for a drill, you can use these tools – it will be faster.

Wooden boards must be carefully treated so that later the bed does not leave splinters in the skin of those who will sleep on it. After that, it is necessary to walk again on the surface of the pallets with a damp cloth.

The next step is to coat the pallets with a special wood primer. It will help the paint or varnish lie evenly.

It is possible to apply the primer with a brush, but if you want to finish the job faster, it is better to use a small roller. Then you need to put the pallets aside until the primer is completely dry.

After that, you can proceed to the application of paint or varnish. First you need to cover the pallets with one layer, and after it dries, you can apply another one.

To make the color of the bed frame more intense, you can cover the pallets with a third coat of paint.

When the pallets have acquired the desired color and the paint has dried, you can fasten them together. You need to connect along the long side.

You can first make holes with a drill, and then screw in the screws and hammer in the nails. Also, on the back side, the bed frame can be reinforced with wooden boards.

After that, it remains only to place the mattress on the pallet frame. If desired, it can be fixed with special rubber bands.

This principle can be used to make a large double bed from six or eight square pallets. You can also make a high frame, for this the pallets must be folded in two or three rows.

A do-it-yourself pallet bed can be completed with a backrest, drawers, wheels and even lighting.

DIY pallet bed with mattress box

For a bed that has a frame of one row of pallets, it is possible to make a box in which the mattress will be inserted. Depending on its size, you will need two or four wooden platforms.

To make a box of two pallets, you need to turn the pallets over, and then use a jigsaw to cut the boards that are located in the middle of each wooden platform so that the supports take the shape of the letter “U”.

These boards must be secured so that each pallet has three closed sides. After that, you need to connect the pallets to each other with the open sides inward. The resulting box must be fixed on a podium of pallets, and then a mattress should be inserted into it.

If the box is created from four pallets, then each wooden platform must have only two closed sides.

DIY pallet bed with headboard

A do-it-yourself pallet bed can be completed with a headboard. It can also be made from pallets. You can simply install two pallets at the base of the bed, or you can use separate boards to create a headboard.

To do this, it is necessary to dismantle the pallets, pull out the nails, process the boards with sandpaper, cover with a primer and apply a layer of paint or varnish. Then the boards need to be fixed at the base of the bed vertically or horizontally.

Children’s bed made of wooden pallets

A pallet bed can be built for a child. Children grow quickly, so after a while the bed can be extended with another pallet.

The baby bed can be equipped with protective sides. And the space between the pallets will be a great place to store toys and other small things.

Lighted pallet bed

The pallets have holes, so you can decorate your handmade pallet furniture with unusual lighting. Making it is no more difficult than making the bed itself from wooden platforms

Lighting for a pallet bed

To make a light for the bed, you need to prepare a few tools and materials that can be found in hardware stores and those that sell lighting fixtures.

In order to give the bed an unusual look, you will need:
  • 2 x 185 cm luminous cords
  • extension cord with two sockets
  • self-tapping screws
  • fasteners
Backlight setting:
  1. Luminous cord, or duralight, as it is called, must be connected to the plugs. Then you need to make sure that all contacts go deep into the channels where the wiring passes.
  2. The free end of the cord must be protected with a cap.
  3. After that, you need to connect the luminous cords to the electrical cable.
  4. Then you need to check the operation of the system.
  5. Now you can place the cord on both sides of the bed and fasten it to the special fasteners from the inside. You need to keep a distance of 25 centimeters.
  6. After that, you can reconnect the cord to the mains and admire the beautiful backlight.

DIY pallet bed on wheels

The pallet bed does not have to be installed against a wall. A small bed can be installed on wheels, which will allow it to be moved around the apartment if necessary. However, it should be borne in mind that when a person lies on a bed, the weight will increase, so it is necessary to choose wheels that can withstand serious loads.

Fancy pallet beds

In such a case as making a bed from pallets with your own hands, you cannot do without imagination. Designers offer the most daring solutions. So, for example, a pallet bed can not be placed on the floor, but simply hung from the ceiling on chains or strong ropes.

In addition, you can make a two-level pallet bed, where the two parts will be located at a short distance from each other, like steps on the stairs.

The bed can also be equipped with various drawers. They can be installed in the space between pallets or placed around the perimeter of the bed. In addition, you can build a bed with sides on which you can put books and other little things.

Pallet bed painting

In order for a pallet bed to last as long as possible, pallets must be treated and coated with a primer, and then varnish or paint.

Lacquer is suitable for those cases when a person wants to keep the natural color of the wood. The most neutral colors are usually used for painting the frame, for example, white, black, brown or gray. But if there is a desire, the frame can be painted in a bright color.

In addition, you can experiment and, for example, paint the main part of the bed in white, and small parts and partitions in other colors.

Where to put the pallet bed?

The pallet bed is an original item that only fits into certain interiors.

A pallet bed will look very nice in a white bedroom decorated in a Scandinavian style. In this case, it is better not to paint the bed frame, but simply varnish it.

Also, a pallet bed will fit well into a loft-style interior. The more original the bed, the better.

You can complete the pallet frame with metal elements, or paint it in silver. You can also complement the bed with lighting or original fittings, such as metal handles.

The pallet bed does not have to be installed in the apartment. This is an excellent solution for a country house and a summer residence. For a country-style interior, the bed also does not have to be painted.

In addition, you can put the bed on the veranda of the house, but then the frame must be covered with a product that protects against moisture.

The pallet bed can also be installed in a Provencal style room. To do this, you can paint the frame in some pastel shade.

And some more tips

In order for the bed to be durable and last for many years, it is better to use new pallets, and not those on which building materials have already been transported several times.

It is also worth remembering that when making furniture from pallets, you need to remove extra nails, otherwise they can cause injury later. European pallets are usually of higher quality than those made in Russia.

Pallet beds are quite strong, but you should keep in mind that you can’t jump on them and do acrobatics.

It is also worth taking care that the mattress is of high quality and comfortable, otherwise sleep on such a bed may not come.

Pallet bed frame is quite easy to make, there are many different ways to do it. Here is an easy way to make High Pallet Bed . First, of course, you need to find these pallets. There are a million places where you can buy them, although it is not necessary to spend money, sometimes you can see them laid out on garbage cans, especially in warehouse stores or malls. You will need 12 pcs. for this version.

Choose your pallets according to your style, whether you like the look of weathered, stained or fresh wood. For ease of assembly, avoid boards that are very dirty or oily or have split boards.
To make a high bed, which is shown in this photo, you need to lay out three rows. The short end of the pallet is the same width as half a double bed. Measure the length of your mattresses to find out how long your pallets should be.

The two pallets are too long, so you need to cut off half (6) of the pallets so that the total length of the two pallets matches the length of the mattress. To make cutting easier and cleaner, select pallets where the required length of cut can be made in the gap between the planks.
If necessary, wash the trays with a hose or by hand and let them dry. If you have chosen good pallets from the beginning, no special cleaning is required.
Make sure all nails are flush, otherwise drive them in or pull them out completely.

Sand all edges and corners of the outer cladding. If you want to save time, it is best to use a manual electric grinder. This can be done manually with sandpaper, but it will take more time.
To protect the floor, place under the corners and edges of the first level pallets, strips of carpet scraps or alternative material.
If the pallet stacks are generally uneven, mix and match the pallets on the sides until they are evenly distributed over the top. The carpet material can also be used to adjust the height as needed.

      Single pallet bed

Most pallet frames are made in such a way that you can simply put a mattress on top. In this case, the design is designed to immerse the mattress in the base. This bed frame also provides a side rail where you can place a cup, book, or midnight snack plate, just like on an end table or stool.

You can make this gorgeous double frame in a weekend as it only takes a few steps plus painting. The author of the project suggests using euro pallets as they are lighter in construction, but only if you can find a few without paying a high price. In general, get a good old hammer and some pallets ready, you can make this single pallet bed for the weekend. This version of the pallet bed is quite simple.

Starting material : two “European size” trays – 1.00 x 1.20 m. The bed is designed to support the mattress with the tray frame. The trays themselves are “inverted”, meaning that the regular top surface is the base for the slatted frame. The reverse side is useful surfaces adjacent to the mattress.
As shown in the diagram, the bottom two tray panels with the red border are raised. As well as two central struts between them and the upper side panels on the central beam. Just leave the spacers on the outer boards, we’ll need them later. Unused spacers should be saved – sometimes they break during assembly, so spares can come in handy.

Remove a few inches of wood above the braces from the remaining bottom board of the pallet (the one not marked on the diagram) so that the two braced boards can be attached as shown by the green outlines. With the euro format (1.20 × 1.00) this fits quite well, otherwise you might cut off what overlaps. As an alternative to the “cut a piece of wood over the spacer” method, you can of course fix it with metal fittings.
Before re-installing the boards, the pallet is disassembled as much as possible, that is, it’s time to clean and sand everything. If you wish, you can already apply the first coat of paint, you will never again reach all the cracks and corners as easily as now.

You must perform the disassembly and assembly shown twice: two pallets, two rebuilds. Just use the spare boards on the inner frame for this when needed. 100 cm can become narrow, be careful when using a wide mattress. Now align the two trays to match the width for the mattress. Install two 2-meter boards along the entire length of the inner bottom. This is the structure on which the slatted floor is attached. So keep them straight. Fasten on both pallets when the bed is already in place. Secure to only one pallet when you still need to move them – here the already assembled bed is not as heavy and large, but still quite bulky. Well, now it’s time to paint if you haven’t already.
Final Assembly: Place a few strips of carpet under the cross beams of the frame to avoid scratching the floor. Attach the pallets to the stringers, roll up the floor slats and secure with screws. Insert mattress. Try to take a nap.

      Pallet Double Bed

If you’re looking for the easiest way to make Wooden Pallet Double Bed Frame , this step-by-step guide will help you. All it takes is a few pallets that can be cut and assembled to fit on a double bed. This is a simple project that is suitable for a beginner. The result is a cool boho vibe that would look great in any bedroom.
Remodeling and decorating a room on a budget often forces us to get creative. You can find various images of wooden pallet bed frames on the Internet, so choosing the right one for your own interior will not be so difficult.
The first step is to find suitable wooden pallets. Of course, there is little chance that you will be lucky and find the pallets of the right size right away, so get ready for some disassembly work ahead of you. Although, if you cut each pallet in half next to the second strut in the center, you can assemble the perfect size for a double bed. First cut the individual boards on one side, then turn over and cut the bottom boards so there is just over half of the pallet left. Do the same with the other pallet. Finally, connect the pallets on the center braces with screws so they don’t move. In principle, this is all, it should turn out beautifully.

A combination of simple elements transforms this bedroom into an oasis, with pallet bed as its foundation. Just a couple of wooden pallets painted white is all you need to make an awesome platform bed! Paired with a cozy navy blue duvet, potted plants, and a poster collection, this room is filled with an air of coziness and peace. Despite the fact that this room has a lot of free space, it does not look cramped. The trick is to balance the elements and consider every little detail.

Now, how to make a platform bed out of pallets .

        1. Find 4 old pallets, cut off the excess if the total area for your room is large.
        2. Lightly sand to remove chips and rough edges.
        3. Apply 2 coats of white paint. It is better to paint with a brush rather than a roller. This way you can fill in all the cracks and grooves in the old pallet boards.

Now it remains to buy a suitable mattress and the bed is ready.

        DIY pallet bed with drawers

The author took the idea for this bed from Pinterest, and decided to use to make a pallet bed with bottom drawers for storage. For this project, you will need 4 identical or similar pallets, self-tapping screws and bolts with washers and nuts. A 245 x 122 cm hardboard sheet was also used here, although this is not required. Cut the top boards from two pallets and the bottom boards from the other two. The pallets themselves are not suitable for installing drawers, so you need to make a stand, then they can easily slide out.
Apply a couple coats of white semi-gloss paint. Pallets are not usually made from furniture wood, and if you don’t like their natural look, they need to be sanded down. Once the paint is dry, it’s time to put everything together. In the role of boxes, you can use any container – boxes, plastic or wooden boxes.

        Pallet Double Bed with Light

This is a large double bed made of pallets with a beautiful footboard (backlight) and a high headboard. Start by drawing a drawing, or at least a sketch, to help you figure out the dimensions. Then do a test dry installation of the pallets on the floor to see the whole picture.

Start by assembling upside down, as it is more convenient to attach the legs, which were screwed in turn to the bottom of the frame. Make the legs in four layers (see photo), 20 cm high. Finally, secure the legs in places that you think may need support. To complete the legs, attach felt pads to prevent scratching the floor and make furniture easier to move.

Time to paint! It’s hard to paint everything at once. So start at the bottom and wait for it to dry. Then tie a tiny chain of light bulbs between the boards with zip ties and staples. To make a headboard, varnish and sand one pallet, and when dry, attach to the bed. Then run an extension cord and phone charger, and connect the other extension cord to the first one to use as a light switch. Attach the wire of the lamps inside the headboard, and connected to the lamps under the bed.

For the first part of the footboard, a part of the pallet can be used, adding board trims to fill in the gaps between the deck boards. Sand and varnish as described above and let dry. Then I attached a garland to this part and connected it to the light bulbs under the bed. This completes the work, this is, of course, a short version of the instructions, you can read more details on the website, link under the gallery.

        Simple Pallet Bed

This is interesting because it looks so simple and cheap that absolutely anyone can make. To make this simple bed, you will need 12 or so pallets (you can use less if you make the bed lower), LED strips (can be bought very cheap online), cable ties, plywood. As you can see, the bed can be placed higher or lower depending on your taste.

The higher, the warmer the air. Plus, when you’re sitting, it’s much more comfortable to have knee-deep legroom. Each pallet can be connected to other ties. It’s not the most attractive solution, but at least it’s cheap and doesn’t require any skills or tools. You can cut out the extra parts and you’ll be fine. If you have brackets, a drill, nails or screws – choose a more elegant and reliable method.

Fasten the LED lights inside before installing the plywood on top pallet beds . Just thread them through the holes and secure with zip ties. Then cover the pallets with plywood and nail. You can also put carpet tiles on top to make it look better than regular plywood. Or experiment with fabrics, materials or just paint.

        Pallet Baby Bed

If you are going to make Pallet Baby Bed , your first task will be to FIND the right pallets that have not been treated with any chemicals. If this is done, cut off the extra pieces of the support boards at the bottom of the bed so that they are flush with the uprights. Then attach the 2×4 studs.
Screw one to each side of the trays so that there are two studs extending the length of the bed. After putting on the studs, turn the bed upside down. You can consider several different uses for the legs of the bed, but wheels are certainly more convenient. Finish by applying two coats of stain. Let dry for 24 hours before applying the polyurethane coating. Two pallets connected together are approximately 20 cm longer than a standard double mattress. The extra part of the tree is convenient, you can use it as a step. But if you don’t like it, just cut it off. We hope you give this project a try! By the way, this could be a great guest bed or could be repurposed for some outdoor furniture!

Baby pallet beds when it comes to

children’s bed is the choice of the pallets themselves. Pallet furniture is only as good as the wood it’s made from, so here are some tips to help you find the right material for your bed. Make sure the pallet hasn’t been treated with any toxic chemicals, look for stamps, or ask the pallet manufacturer if you’re unsure of the material. Work with pallets that have been oven dried, steamed or heat treated as they are the most durable. Pay special attention to sanding and paint selection. Consider what color bed you want and how it will blend in with the rest of the child’s bedroom.

        Do-it-yourself pallet couch

Do you want to decorate your terrace in the country house? This DIY Pallet Daybed can help. The author of the project made it himself, without outside help, in just a few days, without being, according to him, an advanced carpenter. This project is quite simple, so even a person with no experience can do it. If you’re interested, check out how to make your own pallet couch .

First tip, choose the mattress first and then the pallets. Pallet sanding is the most important part of this project because no one wants to get a thorn in their own furniture. The author doesn’t recommend doing it by hand unless you’re a fan of sanding. In any case, it will take a long time to grind until you get a beautiful smooth pallet without chips.

You will also need a 3/4″ drill and bit, lots of 3/4″ bolts and nuts, and a bunch of 3/4″ washers.
First cut the pallets to fit your future couch. You will need to fasten the sides with a wooden frame, which on most pallets is 122 cm wide.
So you will have a base that is 122 cm deep and 203 cm long. .

Carefully measure and mark three holes on each pallet: one near the front, one at the back, and one in the center. Drill holes with a 3/4″ bit. Connect two pallets together and insert 3/4″ bolts. Secure with washer and nut and tighten with wrenches. Now your pallets are attached to each other in the center.
It’s time to attach the rollers.

Install casters at all corners. Carefully mark the holes and drill. Fix the rollers with bolts.
The base of the couch is ready. Cover with several coats of polyurethane, allowing to dry between coats.
Now the handrails, and this is a pipe and a flange! Actually a great option. When deciding on the choice of pipe length, the thickness of the mattress must be taken into account. First, clean the pipe with a grease remover. Then assemble the handrails by attaching two 30cm pipes to the flange, attaching the corner pieces and then screwing the 56cm pipe across. Just screw them onto the pallets. We can say the couch is ready.
Although it must be admitted that the secret of comfortable pallet daybed is not in the fashionable frame, but in the cushions. There must be many.
If you have any doubts about how to make a couch from pallets, do not hesitate. This is a very simple project that any non-woodworking person can do with ease!

How to make a daybed from pallets: a step-by-step guide

Agree, pallet furniture looks quite interesting and innovative and the low cost makes it even more attractive. Pallet furniture for both indoor and outdoor use has become popular with people who love to use creative ideas for their interiors. Let’s talk about 9 here.0023 pallet daybed , an innovative and inexpensive piece of furniture.

Even if you don’t have carpentry experience, you can make this pallet daybed by yourself. And if you add a soft mattress and pillows, you will get real luxury. Here is a procedure that can help you make your own pallet daybed. Find pallets of the right size. Sand with sandpaper to make them smooth and free of roughness. Screw two pallets to the crossbar to assemble the platform.
You can add more pallets if two is not enough. Make sure that the bolts on both sides are firmly tightened.

Attach the legs to the platform. Then screw the wheels to the legs. To increase stability and improve the shape of the platform, make a frame of boards, as shown in the photo. Make a railing out of PVC pipe and paint it your favorite color. Attach securely to the couch. You can put any foam or spring mattress of your choice. Spread out some colorful pillows to create comfort and then it’s beautiful. That’s all. A beautiful pallet daybed is ready to use.

Pallet Daybeds include the manufacture of non-standard designs from disassembled pallets.

Raise the frame on wheels and you have a great mobile pallet daybed. Pallet couches below are a combination of simple frames and more complex plank designs. You can combine these designs to come up with your own original design.

        Pallet Headboard

If you’re wondering how to make a cheap but beautiful DIY Pallet Headboard , you might be interested in this step-by-step guide.

Headboard in this style can be made to fit any size bed.

This project involves the manufacture of a bed frame on a platform. I took 5 1×6 boards and used 1×4 and 1×2 pallet boards. You will need to cut two 125cm high legs to align the 1×6 boards. When sawing, make sure the joints in each row are located in a checkerboard pattern. In principle, it is impossible to spoil it, as long as the boards are 2 meters long in total.

Sand the wood with a grinder, hammer and other tools. Then turn over and start screwing the slats into the supports and legs. In total, you need to make three supports with a gap of 50 cm. The smaller parts that do not pass through the support will be clamped into the brackets. This will make the headboard extremely durable, albeit quite heavy. Attach the top molding by inserting 4 screws into the top legs and slats. Cover them with wood putty and apply more stain before applying varnish. After applying one layer of polyurethane, lightly sand the headboard! If you have a low platform bed, it’s best to attach the headboard to the wall rather than the bed frame. The author’s idea was to have the bottom piece attached to the wall and the top piece to the back of the headboard. Don’t forget to pre-drill the holes so the wood doesn’t crack.

        Wooden Pallet Headboard

Check out this beautiful farmhouse style headboard. Yes, you can make it yourself by simply following the step-by-step photos presented here. To do this, you only need a sheet of plywood and two pallets. Screw the plywood to the two supports, then paint it black. Lay the boards in rows on plywood, as shown in the photo, to the very top and screw. Try to build boards of the same size.

Randomly alternate the left and right edges so that the edges are not perfect. You can line them all up, but the beauty of pallet wood lies in its imperfections. Pre-drill 2 holes in each board and attach the frame to the boards. Buy 3 L-brackets for each of the two legs and attach them directly to the wall with screws and anchors. So it will be much safer and no dents in the wall.

Why not try making a pallet bed? Pallets are an excellent material for construction, as well as for the manufacture of furniture. Today’s review is about pallet beds in different designs – most of them can be easily built by yourself if you have the time and inclination.

These handmade pallet beds have another benefit: they look great. Everything made from pallets is a design trend right now Don’t miss your chance to create your own for your home.

        What is a construction pallet

Pallets have been around for many years and are primarily used to store, pack and ship a variety of goods, from grain to heavier equipment. Recently, these pallets have become much more than just soulless load coasters, as discarded pallets have become a popular topic for home crafters, and people use them brilliantly in pallet furniture designs and wooden home decor designs.

        Where to find free pallets

Finding free pallets is not as difficult as it might seem at first glance. Small businesses often just throw their pallets in the dumpster. They may even lay them out next to dumpsters for recycling services to pick up.

Or look for a distribution center. They may have many pallets that don’t work with their equipment, are slightly broken, or don’t meet the standard they require for their use. Just ask if they can set them aside for you to pick them up.

        1. Single layer podium

The easiest and fastest way to make a pallet bed is to build a single layer podium from four pallets. Fasten them together and place the mattress on top, after making sure that there are no protruding nails in the boards. You can also add a headboard or a small bedside table. A good option for interiors in the style of minimalism.

        Single podium options

        2. Double podium

This option requires twice as many pallets (minimum 8) to create the bed frame as the first one. This design has its advantages – there is a place to store clothes or bed linen and the bed becomes higher, and therefore it will be warmer to sleep on it . You can also make a headboard if there are pallets left.

        Double podium options

        3. T-shaped

The large T-shaped design differs from the previous ones in that has a storage space, which eliminates the need for additional bedside cabinets.

        T-Bed Options

        4. Single

Complete your cozy corner with a great option for a small bed. Compact design for a narrow mattress can be used as a main bed or a guest bed.

        Single bed options

        5. Corner sofa bed

Pallet sofa bed can be a good idea for living room, small apartment, reading nook or outdoor space . And storage space can save a lot of space in an apartment.

Do-it-yourself pallet bed: modern design ideas

Human fantasy is limitless! And evidence of this is the furniture that today craftsmen and dreamers can make from ordinary wooden pallets. Usually they were used to transport equipment. And then the released pallets lay idle, or the zealous owners took them apart to use them for a country fence or a picket fence for a flower bed.

Wooden pallets are widely used throughout the world as a material for a variety of interesting and useful DIY projects.

But everything changed when creative people paid attention to these nondescript pallets. Advantages and disadvantages

Undoubted advantages of pallet furniture are:

        • Easy to manufacture and assemble;
        • Small price of finished product;
        • Using natural material, durable and high quality;
        • The originality of the product and its unique design;
        • Practicality in the use of simple, almost waste materials.

Making a pallet bed is easy. To make a bed, you will need at least four pallets, which do not take up much space and are easy to assemble.

If we consider the disadvantages of such furniture, then the main one will be inconvenience during cleaning, since the dust accumulating under the pallets will not be easy to remove. It is also worth considering that this furniture may not always fit well into the interior of the apartment.

The cost of pallets is so low that buying a few pieces for a bed will not hurt the family budget.

Benefits of making furniture with your own hands

Of course, any furniture today can be purchased in a store or ordered according to your own sketch. However, making a do-it-yourself wooden pallet bed in the bedroom is not a special chic! In addition, it is not so easy to buy a beautiful bedroom set, especially for a young family, because such beauty costs a lot of money, which most young families do not have much.

Such simple and comfortable furniture is not difficult to make yourself.

As for furniture made by a home craftsman, it will cost much less. In addition, you can choose the style, decor, design yourself and make completely exclusive furniture that guests will admire.

Rough and unfinished wooden pallets are transformed into a romantic bed for adults with the help of various finishing materials.

        Deciding on design and construction

Pallet configuration allows the home master to fantasize, inventing new forms of the bed, where it will be convenient and comfortable. Among the most popular are several designs.

        1. Pallet bed with mattress box

This design is made from one row of pallets and in addition to it, a box is made where the mattress is located. Depending on the desire and need, beds can be single or double; then two boxes are mounted on pallets.

A factor in favor of a wooden pallet bed is originality and creativity.

Easy to make from two pallets:

        • Turn the pallet over;
        • Cut down the middle boards with a jigsaw;
        • Shape the remaining “P”;
        • Fasten them by covering three sides with sides, having determined the height of the sides yourself;
        • Connect two pieces to form a box;
        • Fix the resulting structure on the podium.

Using pallets that are no longer usable, we turn them into something really practical and give them a second life.

        1. Pallet bed with headboard

Not everyone needs a headboard – many prefer to sleep on a completely flat bed. But if there is such a need, then it can also be made from a pallet. At the same time, there is an option that does not require manufacturing efforts: it is enough to use a narrow long pallet, which must be strengthened on the base.

Be aware of the work that needs to be done to make the pallet usable.

        Alternatively, use boards for headboard:

        • Remove nails;
        • Disassemble them into boards;
        • Sand down;
        • Prime and paint or varnish.

        Fasten planks vertically or horizontally.

This bed should be in harmony with the surrounding interior.

        1. Children’s bed with mattress box and sides

Making a baby crib is similar to making a bed with a box for adults. The only difference is that one pallet is enough for children’s furniture. The boards are attached around its entire perimeter. In addition, the processing of a wooden structure should be carried out with increased care, especially if it is not supposed to be painted or varnished.

Choose a paint color that matches perfectly with the walls, for example, and you will be able to achieve color harmony in the room.

        1. Illuminated bed

It is made according to the usual drawing, and through the holes in the pallets, you need to pass LED strips or mount lamp lighting. You can place LED lighting at the head of a pallet bed, along its backs or sides, depending on the ideas of beauty and expediency. Lamp lighting can also be used to illuminate the stock. But it is better to use it in suspended form or decorate wall lighting.

This modern and sustainable furniture looks great in a spacious room.

        1. Bed on wheels

Usually the location of the bed is chosen, as they say, once and for all. Most often, it is located against the wall, sometimes in the middle of the bedroom. But it is not at all necessary to “nail” it to a certain place. Anyone who does not like sleeping in one place can put his bed on wheels.

A nuance to consider: the weight of the structure with the sleeper will increase accordingly, so it is important to install wheels that can withstand such a load.

        1. Fantasy

Do-it-yourself pallet bed can be made not only in the traditional way, but also to dream up. Most often, pallet beds look especially impressive in a room decorated with:

Those who have already tried to realize their dreams offer:

A third coat can be applied if required.

        Decoration

The final step in making a pallet bed with your own hands is decoration.

And here – full scope of fantasy!

        1. Using a jigsaw and an electric burner, you can create spectacular pictures of various subjects and ornaments that decorate the headboards.
        2. Choose an effective color scheme that will create a special mood in the bedroom.
        3. A chic “royal” pallet bed can be made by decorating it with beautiful fabric drapery and making a canopy.
        4. Canopy made of delicate fabric can decorate a crib.
        5. A spectacular decor for a bed will be the design of the backlight made of LEDs mounted in the back.
        6. The design of the bed with a bedspread and pillows, decorated with embroidery, patchwork, applications of various subjects, will be simple and bright.
        7. A multi-colored wall hanger, also made of pallet boards, will look original as a decor.
        8. Pendant lamps will create a special atmosphere of simplicity and cleanliness if the bedroom is decorated in a minimalist style.
        9. Bright floor vases, baskets, toys will give a special flavor to the bedroom, which has a pallet bed, made by hand.

Out-of-the-box thinking, a creative look at simple objects, allow you to create works of art that amaze the audience.

Handmade furniture is not often seen in exhibition pavilions, but this does not lose its originality and beauty. The ability to see beauty in simple things, the desire to make your life brighter and more interesting distinguishes those who do not get tired of looking for something new.

Do-it-yourself pallet bed is an economical and original option: get at your disposal unusual furniture made of environmentally friendly material.

See for yourself, and instead of burning a barbecue fire with unnecessary wooden crates, busy yourself with designing fashionable furniture that will be saturated with the warmth of your hands.

        What are pallets?

Pallets are often referred to as pallets . They consist of very durable boards, which are located at some distance from each other. With proper processing of such a tree, an interesting texture is obtained. Designers have already begun to use such know-how in full. Incredible loft-style interiors are decorated with the most uncomplicated pallet beds. It’s stylish, budget-friendly, and completely eco-friendly.

How to make a pallet bed with your own hands?

If you are excited about the idea of unique furniture in your home, then use your imagination and our advice. First you need to figure out what height you want the future bed. Pallets can be arranged both in one row and in several. In the first case, you get an Asian-style bed, it is quite comfortable, low and looks unusual in any bedroom. It will be easy for small children to climb into such a bed. If you like higher beds, you should make several tiers of pallets, properly securing them.

        1. The pallets must be cleaned first. Using a grinder and sandpaper, we process the surface of the boards.
        2. After cleaning, the pallets must be primed and then allowed to dry for even staining.
        3. It is better to paint the future frame at least twice. It is better to choose the color of paint based on the color scheme of the interior.
        4. Once the paint is dry, the structure can be assembled.
        5. Duralight can be used to illuminate the bed.

How to choose a mattress for a pallet bed?

With pallet beds, you can literally sleep on boards and still be comfortable. How to achieve this? Of course with a quality mattress. Let’s figure out how to choose it in the best way.

Let’s start with fillers. This is the most important thing in choosing a future mattress. Mattresses are spring and springless. Both the first and second, with the right selection, will serve for a long time.

        Springless Mattresses

Springless mattresses lack the firmness of their spring counterparts. The truth is not inferior in quality and reliability. The most effective springless mattresses are latex mattresses and memory foam mattresses . They give the sleeping place an anatomical effect: the mattress completely follows the contours of the body and creates the most correct and natural position of the spine. If you like a hard bed, then coconut coir will come to the rescue. It perfectly levels the surface and eliminates any irregularities, giving an orthopedic effect to the spine. If you want to buy a mattress for the country, and furniture from pallets was created more for the purpose of an extra bed, then polyurethane foam mattress .

        Spring mattresses

Spring orthopedic mattresses in their base can have a dependent or independent spring unit.

Dependent spring block is already obsolete. For many years people have been using these springs. It cannot be said that they performed their duties poorly. True, with the advent of independent springs, the impression of rest has changed significantly. When using a dependent block, the springs are in contact with each other and when exposed to one of them, the others are also clamped.

The independent spring block eliminated this problem with special spring covers. It would seem a trifle, but the effect is amazing! Firstly, now the springs work pointwise, i.e. independently of each other. Secondly, the problem of friction has been eliminated. Such a mattress will not make unpleasant sounds, even during a long period of operation.

Experiment and your house will sparkle with new colors! Furniture from pallets is the best solution for any wallet.

Subdans or fads are used for transportation, which are used for cargoes, which are used for cargoes. Each pallet consists of knocked down boards 80 cm wide, 120 cm long and 12 cm high. Savvy designers and craftsmen have found an interesting use for environmentally friendly and durable euro pallets. A similar packaging material is used in the creation of exclusive furniture.

Pallet bed in the interior: types, features and benefits

Beds, walls and pallet tables fit perfectly into a minimalist design. This furniture is also suitable for rustic and cottage style. Weather resistant pallets can be used in the manufacture of outdoor furniture. Owners of themed restaurants are also not averse to acquiring tables and chairs from pallets.

A unique addition to the interior of the bedroom will be a bed on a pallet frame. You can create it yourself, having previously studied the procedure for assembling furniture. The pallet bed has a rather rough frame, so it is not suitable for installation in a classic interior. Painted or lacquered pallets are recommended for making furniture in a modern style.

Types of beds made of euro pallets:

        • Headboard made from pallets or single planks. In children’s beds, instead of a headboard, small protective bumpers are installed.
        • For children, you can build a bunk or regular bed. The place between the pallets is recommended to be used for storing bed linen and children’s toys. Over time, the bed can be increased by adding another pallet.
        • Illuminated furniture is suitable for a studio apartment and bedroom in a modern style. The trays have holes that are ideal for placing LED strips and cords (duralight).
        • With a box for a mattress, beds consisting of one row of pallets were made. At the furniture design stage, you will have to take into account the size of the mattress. On average, two to four pallets are enough to create a box.

In its simplest form, a Euro pallet bed resembles a podium on which a mattress is placed. The presence of a headboard, a box and lighting greatly complicates the process of assembling furniture.

        Bed installation method:

        • On wheels. Suitable for compact beds that are planned to be constantly moved. Furniture rollers are selected taking into account the future load. It is worth adding from 100 to 150 kg to the total weight of the frame and mattress.
        • On legs. An excellent choice for users who pay special attention to the cleanliness of the room. The legs are made from boards obtained after dismantling the pallets. The frame rises a little, so free space is formed under the bed.
        • On the floor. The traditional way of placing furniture from a pallet. The podium is installed directly on the floor.

On average, the manufacture of a bed takes from two to sixteen pallets, which can be stacked independently in several rows. From pallets you can make a compact lorry or a single bed. The principle of creating a comfortable double bed is based on fastening the frame elements, so you have to choose pallets of the same size. The design features of such products make it possible to produce furniture for children’s rooms.

Pallet furniture has a rather rough appearance. Fans of exquisite beds with carved headboards and detailed decor are unlikely to appreciate the aesthetic properties of such furniture. A pallet bed looks great in the interior of the bedroom, if you first take care of the selection of related decor elements. Particular attention will have to be paid to the style of bed linen.

        Benefits of pallet beds:

        • Cheap. Demand for pallets has increased significantly, but prices have remained the same. Making a bed from euro pallets with your own hands will cost several times cheaper than buying furniture from a store. Used products can also be used to create frames.
        • High speed and easy assembly. Furniture set for the bedroom is made in a few hours. To work with pallets, qualifications are not required, just the ability to handle a hammer and a hacksaw is enough.
        • Wear resistance. Pallets are designed to transport heavy building materials (bricks, packaged bulk mixes, blocks), so the frame made from them is able to withstand huge loads.
        • Environmentally friendly. Natural wood is used in the production of pallets.
        • Design flexibility. Pallet frame can be repainted and modified, although wooden furniture looks amazing without additional finishing.

Euro pallet furniture is stable, strong and durable. It fits perfectly into the functional design of the premises. The absence of harmful dyes and toxic materials allows the use of such furniture in an eco-style interior.

        DIY pallet bed: assembly steps

        Making a drawing

At the design stage, the design features and dimensions of the bed are determined. It is necessary to clarify some key aspects that will affect the design parameters and features of operation. It is recommended to carefully study each of the available types of frame, calculate the future budget and take measurements of the room.

        Sketching takes into account:

        • Bed size. The dimensions of the bed directly depend on the needs of the user and the parameters of the room. The use of a two-layer structure will allow you to create a massive and high bed, while a single-layer frame is used as the basis for placing a niche under the mattress.
        • Furniture shape. The frame of euro pallets has a rectangular or square shape, but if desired, you can create corner and bunk beds.
        • Layout (on the floor, wheels or legs).
        • Size and properties of the mattress. Not only the dimensions, but also the comfort of the bed depend on these parameters. The mattress can be placed directly on the pallet or placed in a special box.
        • Headboard type. If desired, this structural element can be abandoned, but the appearance of the bed may suffer from such a decision. The headboard is attached to the wall or frame. The second method is simpler, but the wall mount is original.

Furniture makers use special software to create sketches. A pallet bed is a popular room design solution, so there are many ready-made assembly schemes. Before proceeding to the next steps, you need to carefully check the sketch. All dimensions should be written out on a separate sheet. First you have to make a list of materials and tools that you will have to use in the future.

        Choosing bed trays

After drawing up a sketch and specifying the dimensions of future furniture, you can proceed to the selection of pallets. It is allowed to use new and used wooden platforms for the construction of the frame. If the second option is chosen, you will have to carefully check the integrity of the product.

Ready-made pallets are sold by specialized firms whose employees produce goods to individual sizes according to customer requirements. A standard europallet does not exceed 120 cm in length and is limited to 80 cm in width. Thus, it takes from 6 to 12 pallets to create a double high bed with a headboard.

        List of tools and materials

A relatively small list of tools is useful for making a simple Euro pallet bed. Most of them can be found at home, while the rest will have to be purchased at a hardware store.

The following tools and supplies will be required:

        • Sufficient pallets (dimensions according to drawing).
        • Tape measure and measuring pencil.
        • Self-tapping screws or nails for fixing frame elements.
        • Power tools for woodworking (electric jigsaw, grinder).
        • Hand tools (hammer, screwdriver, hacksaw).
        • Drill or screwdriver.
        • Sandpaper.
        • Wood primer.
        • Lacquer or paint.
        • Brush and roller.

Paints deserve special mention. If you plan to simply varnish the pallets, paint can be discarded. Otherwise, it is recommended to choose a special wood paint that is used in the manufacture of furniture.

The preparatory work should be carried out step by step, as it includes several interrelated steps. Any cracks, protruding knots and nails are recommended to be removed. Wood must be dry and clean. If old pallets are used, they should be thoroughly cleaned. Conventional detergents can be used, but the product will have to be dried before starting work. Buyers should be alerted by a chemical smell or a non-uniform color. It is better to refuse to purchase pallets with such defects.

The sanding, painting and priming process takes place in the preparatory phase. The surface is leveled with a grinder and sandpaper. During processing, dust appears, which can be removed with a damp cloth. After cleaning and leveling the surface, you can proceed to painting or varnishing. Two or even three layers of paints and varnishes should be used, the base for which will be a special primer for wood.

        Pallet bed assembly steps

Once the pallets have been prepared, the assembly phase can begin. To create a functional and attractive furniture will have to work hard. There are several assembly options, among which it is recommended to choose the best one for a particular room. Beginners should start with the simplest installation technique.

To create a double bed measuring 240×240 cm, you need:

        • Choose from six to twelve pallets (depending on the desired height of the bed).
        • Clean, sand and finish wood. Nails and grips must be removed.
        • Cover the future frame with varnish or paint.
        • Lay the pallets on a flat surface, three in two rows.
        • Fasten pallets with screws or nails vertically and horizontally (if two layers are used).
        • Put down the mattress.

How to make a bed out of pallets is decided by the master himself, but the order of the listed steps does not change. If we are talking about a rather complex structure in the form of a pedestal, on which a box is installed under the mattress, a place for its placement is cut out with a jigsaw. The created niche takes the form of the letter “P”. It is attached to the podium of pallets, after which it remains only to insert the mattress.

        Making a wooden pallet headboard

If the bed is to be completed with a headboard, it is sufficient to install the trays at its base. Here is a special installation guide. To pull out the boards for the future headboard, you will have to disassemble the pallets. The resulting base for the back is processed with sandpaper, coated with a primer and paint / varnish. Prepared boards are securely attached to the wall or bed base. They can be placed in a vertical or horizontal position. The height of the headboard will depend on the placement scheme.

        Pallet bed decoration options

Beds of unusual shape and size will be a real piece of art. For the manufacture of such furniture, considerable talents in the field of wood processing have to be shown. You can’t do without imagination either, because designers offer extremely bold solutions. For example, a bed can be hung from the ceiling using strong ropes or chains. Bunk furniture is made for children’s rooms. The second floor here can be pushed a little, placing it at a short distance from the first. This design resembles a spiral staircase.

The best decoration for the bed is the lighting, which will take from 20 to 60 minutes to install. LED fixtures suitable for decorating furniture are sold at any electronics store. They have a remote control and plug into a regular outlet.

The simplest way to increase the functionality of furniture is to install drawers and place shelves in the space between pallets. The sides can be used to store books and various decorative items, the podium is sometimes made a little wider than the mattress box. In this case, a solid surface will be available near the bed, on which you can put various items (souvenirs, household appliances). Decorative pillows and blankets will help emphasize the chosen style of the interior.

Rules for choosing a mattress for a makeshift pallet bed

The mattress for a homemade bed is selected taking into account the structural features of the frame. The dimensions of the berth may be slightly smaller than the size of the pedestal made from pallets. Anyone can create a pallet bed with their own hands, but you will have to choose a mattress for it from the available range. It is worth focusing on personal needs and recommendations of specialists.

        Mattress selection criteria:

        • User’s age. Young people under the age of 25 should use a firm springless mattress made from coconut fibre. Such a bed will be useful for children and adolescents whose spine is still being formed. For people over 25 years old, a mattress with an independent spring block is suitable.
        • Spring stiffness. The indicator is denoted by the letter “F”. Also used is a digital gradation from 1 to 3 (soft, medium and hard). In double mattresses, two spring blocks with different degrees of rigidity can be used. They will be useful for couples with a big difference in weight. Rigidity also depends on the type of top layer of filler (coconut coir, latex, polyurethane foam).
        • User weight. The option with soft springs is suitable for users weighing up to 60 kg, the medium firm mattress is designed for a load of 60-100 kg. Reinforced products are used for users weighing from 110 kg.

Furniture makers in their master classes often recommend that you first purchase a mattress, the characteristics of which can be relied upon when drawing up a drawing of a future bed. It is advisable to use an orthopedic mattress upholstered in natural fabrics. The cost of such a product will be several times higher than the cost of manufacturing the frame, but the comfort of the bed depends on the quality of the mattress.

Decor items and interior elements made using the handmade technique are considered an exclusive design solution. The bed is made of high quality pallets made according to the European standard and is extremely durable. It is adapted for transport and re-assembly. This budget furniture will look perfect both in the interior of a small country house and in the bedroom of a luxury apartment.

The sleeping place produced in this way has a fairly solid construction. Of course, undamaged pallets must be used. In addition, the design of such a wooden frame is easily repaired. If necessary, you can always replace the pallet with another one.

Despite the existing advantages, there are also disadvantages to such a piece of furniture. The wooden frame of the bed is susceptible to moisture. Therefore, when making this resting place, you should strictly follow the assembly instructions.

It is also contraindicated to jump on such a sleeping bed. After all, with a sharp blow, the wooden pallet can crack.

        DIY pallet bed

When you can’t find wooden pallets, you can make them yourself without the help of others. This process is simple and takes a little time. In this case, it is desirable to use moisture-resistant wood – pine. Such material is the least susceptible to rotting when exposed to moisture. Of course, the wood must be well dried and not have cracks or other serious damage. Boards for reliability, it is desirable to fasten with self-tapping screws. After making wooden pallets, you can begin to assemble the sleeping bed.

How can I do it myself? A pallet bed is assembled by hand according to the same principle: wooden pallets are interconnected, forming a frame, on which a comfortable mattress is then laid.

        Making a drawing

Before making this piece of furniture yourself, you must first make a drawing (sketch). This is necessary in order to calculate the number of pallets and other material for the sleeping bed.

Two pallets of wood are needed to assemble a baby or single bed.

If you need to make a sleeping bed for older people, then you need at least four pallets of standard dimensions (120 x 80 cm). This results in a double large bed made of pallets 1.6 wide and 2.4 meters long.

If desired, you can make a sleeping piece of furniture of any shape and size. You just need to fantasize a little. Then make a drawing and calculate the required number of wooden pallets, other material.

The bed frame can be made higher. In this case, pallets are arranged in two or three rows. In the future, they are securely fastened.

        Choosing bed trays

The durability of a piece of furniture depends on the quality of the wooden pallets, their processing and fastening.
In order for a piece of furniture to be durable and used for a long time, it is necessary to choose good pallets. They must be intact, without serious flaws. It is best if they are new, and not those that have been used for a long time, as a result of which they have become unusable.

When choosing wooden pallets, carefully inspect them. If nails or foreign bodies stick out of the pallets, they should be removed immediately.

Care must be taken to ensure that the wood is dry and not exposed to prolonged moisture and rot. After all, the product in this case will not last long, it will be fragile and brittle.

It is also desirable to use European pallets for the manufacture of the bed, which are of better quality than Russian ones.

        List of tools and materials

When assembling a wooden bed, in addition to the required number of pallets, you will need the following tools and materials:

        • drill;
        • hammer;
        • screwdriver or screwdriver;
        • self-tapping screws;
        • nails;
        • sander, sandpaper;
        • brushes, roller;
        • paint or varnish;
        • wood primer.

If you do not have any materials or tools available, please purchase them before assembly.

        Preparing the material

If wooden pallets are not new and have been used, then it is necessary to carry out preliminary preparation of the material, because the pallets have not been subjected to special chemical treatments. They are often found outdoors or damp areas. At the same time, moisture affects them, they become clogged.

Therefore, used pallets must first be washed with soap and water, then thoroughly with water. All dirt should be cleaned. After that, wooden pallets should dry well and ventilate.

        Pallet bed assembly steps

Well-dried pallets are processed with sandpaper and a special grinder. It is better to disassemble wooden pallets. At the same time, remove the nails, and insert self-tapping screws instead. They will more securely fasten the wooden structure. In the process of grinding, various dirt in microcracks is removed, and the surface of the material becomes smooth.

Then the pallets should be thoroughly wiped again so that they are free of any dust, wood chips.

The next step is called priming. A primer on wood is applied to the pallets with a roller or brush. It evens out the surface. This is necessary for subsequent coating. The pallets are then allowed to dry completely.

In the next step, the wood is varnished or painted in the desired color. It is advisable to repeat the process twice for better quality.

After the paint or varnish has dried, wooden pallets are fastened together along the long side. At the same time, holes are drilled with a drill, and then a reliable fastening is made with screws and nails. You can additionally strengthen the wooden frame with boards by nailing them from below.

After that, you just need to place a comfortable mattress on the new bed.

Making a headboard from wooden pallets

The headboard is made from the same material. For this, two wooden pallets are taken, which are placed vertically at the base of the sleeping bed. Then it remains only to securely fasten them to the frame.

Another method can be used. Disassemble the pallets into boards. Carefully process with sandpaper, then apply a primer on wood, and then varnish or paint of the desired color. Next, from separate boards, make a headboard of any configuration.

        Pallet bed decoration options

At their own request, when assembling this piece of furniture, various additional functions and decorations are used. It all depends on the imagination of the master.

If you don’t want the bed to always be in one place near the wall, then this piece of furniture can be made on wheels. In this case, the sleeping bed can be freely moved around the room. But it should be remembered at the same time that the wheels must withstand the weight of the bed and the person.

Depending on the wishes, the seating area can be made lower or higher. It is only necessary to fasten one, two or three rows of wooden pallets. This will change the height of the bed.

There is an original way to make a bed with two levels. At the same time, they will be nearby, like steps at the stairs.

Another interesting method is to make a hanging bed. At the same time, fix it under the ceiling.

Beds from pallets are equipped with various drawers in the form of bedside tables, sides. You can safely put various things on them before going to bed. Install floor lamps or other household items.

Lovers of romance can assemble a pallet bed with pleasant lighting. In this case, LED lamps or a luminous cord are placed on the side, below the bed. But at the same time, you need to remember about safety precautions. Cords and lamps must be free from defects and malfunctions.

You can paint the main part of the bed in one color, and some parts of the bed in other colors. This will give originality and sophistication to the style.

From the above, it becomes clear that a wooden bed can be built with your own hands. In addition, the production does not take much time and effort. It is also beneficial from a financial point of view. And most importantly, everyone can make a beautiful sleeping bed to their liking, so that it is a highlight for relaxation and combined with the interior of the room.

It doesn’t matter if you decide to make a bed out of pallets in order to give an extraordinary look to your bedroom, or just to save money on buying furniture for your country house. We will tell you the main stages of work. As a result, you will get a completely unique thing with a bright character and pleasure from the process. After all, it’s not so difficult to make a beautiful bed out of pallets on your own.

Making a pallet bed: where to start

There are some key design aspects that need to be decided in advance.

        1. Will your bed be on legs or will the pallets be placed directly on the floor?

In addition to the aesthetic aspect, this issue also has a practical one. Washing the floor under the bed in the photo above will be very problematic. But the bed in the bottom photo is devoid of such a drawback.

        2. It is also important to decide on the size of the mattress that you are going to put on the bed when it is ready. This will determine the size of the bed itself.

In addition, some people build commercially manufactured bases with slats into a pallet bed, and then put a mattress on them.

Of course, the mattress can also be placed directly on the pallets. It is unlikely that the method with lamellas has any noticeable advantages.

        3. The last important thing to think about beforehand is the headboard.

It can be an integral part of the bed itself.

But it can also be made as a separate element and attached to the wall instead of the bed. This method can be somewhat more original and decorative.

The process of making a pallet bed

A bed is not the most difficult piece of furniture to make. Its shape is extremely simple, and if you decide not to bother with legs and do not attach the headboard to the bed itself, then the entire construction process will come down to grinding the surface, finishing and twisting the pallets with self-tapping screws. Let’s take a look at each of these steps in turn.

Grinding is best done with a grinder – it’s quick and easy. But if it is not there, you can get by with ordinary sandpaper and do everything manually.

Finishing is an important step. You can save it for later, but keep in mind that once you’ve got the whole bed together, painting every plank can be a daunting task.

Of course, this depends on the specific design. For example, such a bed can be painted even after assembly.

The assembly itself is relatively easy. But it is important to be careful and carefully align all the elements so that your bed turns out to be the correct shape. It is also important to make sure that the pallets are securely fastened together. You don’t want your bed to wobble and creak, disturbing your sleep!

For assembly it is better to use self-tapping screws. A bed assembled on nails will loosen faster.

If you do make a bed with legs, reinforce them with metal plates or corners.

The same goes for the headboard if you choose to attach it to the bed itself.

DIY pallet bed is not only the cheapest way to make a bed, but also practical. These beds are eco-friendly, durable and look good in. To make a pallet bed with your own hands, you do not need to be a high-class specialist. It is enough to stock up on materials and tools to build a simple bed.

Pallets, or pallets, as they are also called, which are used to transport building materials, can become a strong frame for a berth. A do-it-yourself pallet bed will cost several times less than a ready-made and store-bought one.

        Choice of pallet bed designs

Pallets can be made into a small or large single bed or a huge double bed. The principle of creating this piece of furniture is the same: the same pallets are connected to each other so that a podium is obtained, on which the mattress is installed.

A do-it-yourself pallet bed can be made two-level, or low, with legs or wheels, with or without a headboard. But most importantly, correctly assemble the frame. How to make a pallet bed with your own hands?

        DIY pallet bed – Workshop

      • self-tapping screws
      • nails
      • drill
      • screwdriver
      • sandpaper
      • wood primer
      • varnish or paint
      • hammer
      • brushes
      • roller

First clean the trays from dirt and dust. To do this, you can use a broom or brush and a damp cloth.

If you work with pallets in the country, you can wash the pallets with a hose that is used for watering plants.

You can apply the primer with a brush, but if you want to finish the job faster, it is better to use a small roller.

You can first make holes with a drill, then screw in the screws and hammer in the nails.

For a bed that has a frame of one row of pallets, you can make a box in which the mattress will be inserted. Depending on its size, you will need two or four wooden platforms.

To make a box of two pallets, turn the pallets over and then use a jigsaw to cut the boards that are located in the middle of each wooden platform so that the supports take the shape of the letter “U”.

These boards must be fixed in such a way that each pallet has three closed sides. After that, you need to connect the pallets to each other with the open sides inward. The resulting box must be fixed on a podium of pallets, and then a mattress should be inserted into it.

If the box is created from four pallets, then each wooden platform should have only two closed sides.

      DIY pallet bed with headboard

DIY pallet bed can be completed with a headboard. It can also be made from pallets. You can simply install two pallets at the base of the bed, or you can use separate boards to create a headboard.

To do this, it is necessary to dismantle the pallets, remove the nails, sand the boards, cover with a primer and apply a coat of paint or varnish. Then the boards need to be fixed at the base of the bed vertically or horizontally.

      Wooden pallet bed

A pallet bed can be made for a child. Children grow quickly, so after a while the bed can be extended with another pallet.

The child’s bed can be equipped with protective sides. And the space between the pallets will be a great place to store toys and other small things.

      Illuminated pallet bed

The pallets have holes, so you can decorate your handmade one with unusual lighting. Making it is no more difficult than making the bed itself from wooden platforms

      Lighting a pallet bed

To make a bed light, you need to prepare a few tools and materials that can be found in hardware stores and those that sell lighting fixtures.

To give the bed an unusual look, you will need:
      • 2 glowing cords, 185 centimeters each
      • extension cord with two sockets

      Do-it-yourself pallet bed on wheels

The pallet bed does not have to be installed against the wall. A small bed can be installed on wheels, which will allow it to be moved around the apartment if necessary. However, it should be borne in mind that when a person lies on a bed, the weight will increase, so it is necessary to choose wheels that can withstand serious loads.

      Unusual pallet beds

In such a business as making a pallet bed with your own hands, you can’t do without imagination.

A pallet bed will look very nice in white, decorated in a Scandinavian style. In this case, it is better not to paint the bed frame, but simply varnish it.

Also, a pallet bed will fit well into. The more original the bed, the better.

The pallet frame can be completed with metal elements or painted in silver. You can also complement the bed with lighting or original fittings, such as metal handles.

The pallet bed does not have to be installed in the apartment. This is an excellent solution for a country house and a summer residence. The bed also does not have to be painted.

Alternatively, you can put the bed on the veranda of the house, but then the frame must be covered with a means that protects against moisture.

The pallet bed can also be installed in a Provencal style room. To do this, you can paint the frame in some pastel shade.

In order for the bed to be durable and last for many years, it is better to use new pallets, and not those on which building materials have been repeatedly transported.

It is also worth remembering that during the manufacture, you need to remove extra nails, otherwise they can cause injury later.
