When it comes to satisfying your rainbow cravings in the garden, few flowers satisfy like the rose. (Even blue? We’ll get to that in a moment). Horticulturists are hard at work developing new hues and bicolors, while also bringing us improved vigor in the primary tones we’ve come to depend on for brilliance in the garden. Whether you like the calm vibe of an all-white garden, the contrast of color wheel opposites, or the free-spirited look of a patchwork cottage garden, there’s a rose color to suit your needs.

    Red Roses

    The Spruce / Evgeniya Vlasova

    Forget about ever paying premium prices for a bouquet of red roses when you can harvest homegrown beauties by the bushel. For perfect-looking red roses with tight buds and long stems, grow hybrid tea roses like ‘Mister Lincoln,’  ‘Veteran’s Honor,’ or ‘Beloved.’ In addition to the rich, red color, you will delight in the real rose scent that is lacking in so many florist arrangements.

    For smaller but more abundant blooms, check out a shrub or ground cover rose like ‘Red Drift’ or ‘Double Knock Out.’ While these roses don’t pack quite the same fragrant punch as the big bloom roses, they are very disease resistant and may not even require spraying.

  • 02
    of 10

    Orange Roses

    The Spruce / Evgeniya Vlasova

    Cheerful tangerine and dreamy apricot roses glow in the sunny flower garden, bringing just the right blend of energy and warmth to companion plantings of purple or blue flowers like salvia and Russian sage. If you’re troubled by black spot in your area, try the highly resistant Floribunda ‘Easy Going,’ with clear peach blooms. For the cutting garden, you can’t go wrong with ‘Wildfire,’ a fragrant repeat bloomer.

  • 03
    of 10

    Yellow Roses

    The Spruce / Evgeniya Vlasova

    Yellow roses have a bad rep of being black spot magnets, but the disease resistance and vigor of yellows on today’s market have come a long way from weak cultivars like Rosa foetida ‘Persian Yellow.’ Pale lemony blooms like those of the climbing rose ‘Lady Banks’ will fill your arbor with vigorous canes laden with flowers. ‘Graham Thomas’ bears large cupped flowers with a rich golden hue throughout the growing season.

  • 04
    of 10

    Green Roses

    The Spruce / Evgeniya Vlasova

    The trend for green flowers has never been hotter, so get on board with green rose varieties like ‘Lemonade,’ ‘Jade,’ and ‘Super Green.’ Unlike some green flower types, the shades of green you can find in roses are subtle and usually infused with cream or blush.

    Green roses infuse a jolt of minty freshness into any flower arrangement. Pale green is a cool complement to lavender or pink flowers, and it adds a festive flair to a holiday arrangement with red roses.

  • 05
    of 10

    Blue Roses

    The Spruce / Evgeniya Vlasova

    The quest to develop a true blue rose has taken on a sense of increased urgency as breeders occasionally claim a breakthrough in coloration. Although roses do not possess the gene that causes blue petals, researchers are working with advanced genetic manipulation techniques to transfer blue genes from blue flowers like pansies or irises. Results so far have led to violet-blue roses like the Suntory blue rose ‘Applause.’ The ‘Blue Moon’ rose is another variety that looks spectacular in catalogs, but is suspiciously lilac in tone in the landscape. Any royal blue roses you might encounter at the florist are the result of artificial dyes.

  • 06
    of 10

    Pink Roses

    The Spruce / Evgeniya Vlasova

    Pink roses comprise a huge tonal range from the fun bubblegum and fuchsia hues to the romance of blush, salmon, and mauve tones. Make your pink rose garden out of the ordinary with an ombré planting. Stagger at least five rose bushes from pale blush to dark pink in the border. A recipe for an ombré pink rose border might look something like this: ‘Garden Spirit,’ ‘Voyage,’ ‘Aloha,’ ‘Beverly,’ and ‘Baronesse.’ For a greater effect, keep your pink roses in the same group, for example, David Austin English roses, hybrid tea roses, or floribundas.

  • 07
    of 10

    Purple Roses

    The Spruce / Evgeniya Vlasova

    Deep plummy purple roses like ‘Ebb Tide’ and ‘Twilight Zone’ are underused in the garden, yet stand out more than classic red roses. Lately, gardeners are buzzing about the merits of ‘Plum Perfect,’ a Kordes introduction that thrives without spraying. Dark-colored roses like purples and burgundies are at their best when they receive some afternoon shade. The direct afternoon sun can cause petal scorching, which leads to blackened edges and curling.

    Keep in mind that most roses marketed as “blue” are, in fact, purple or violet roses. Similarly, roses labeled as silver are usually in the purple or lilac range. Certain lighting situations or companion plantings may help to highlight the blue or silver tones of purple roses.

  • 08
    of 10

    White Roses

    The Spruce / Evgeniya Vlasova

    Gardeners who favor white roses are in for a real treat because some of the hardiest varieties are white. Coincidentally, the white rose group also contains some of the most fragrant varieties you can grow. Many white roses have a touch of cream or pink that adds to their allure, but if you’re looking for a pure white rose with no undertones, you can grow ‘Iceberg,’ ‘White Perfumella,’ or ‘White Diamond.

    White roses with pink and cream seem to glow in the garden, making them well-suited for the moon garden. ‘Desdemona,’ an English musk hybrid, seems to emit a faint pink glow from its highly perfumed flowers. ‘Crocus Rose,’ a cream-colored introduction from David Austin, will produce its lavishly petaled blooms even in zone 4 gardens with poor soil.

  • 09
    of 10

    Bicolor Roses

    The Spruce / Evgeniya Vlasova

    Striped and two-toned roses encompass soft blends like the famous ‘Peace’ rose, blooms with a reverse coloration pattern on each petal-like the highly perfumed ‘Double Delight,’ and magnificent patterned blooms like the picotee ‘Betty Boop’ or the candy cane stripes of ‘Scentimental.’ These roses are a garden designer’s delight when planted with companions that emphasize one of the predominant colors in the rose blossom. Although bi-color roses are striking and different from single hues, they require no more care than a typical rose.

  • 10
    of 10

    Rainbow Roses

    The Spruce / Evgeniya Vlasova

    You can grow a rainbow of roses, but is it possible to grow a single rainbow rose? The rainbow rose is a popular trend in the floral industry, but it is a manmade creation, not something straight out of a unicorn’s garden. The methods used to create rainbow roses vary, but include professional sprays, dip dyes, and absorption dyes, which add color via uptake through the stem. Rainbow roses are marked up due to extra labor costs, but you can stretch your dollar by adding additional roses and other flowers from your garden to a rainbow rose bouquet.

Red roses aren’t the only flowers you can give your crush this Valentine’s Day.

While red roses are popular for showcasing love, it’s not the only option. Believe it or not, there are a slew of rose color meanings. You may be looking to gift the special someone in your life a red rose to signify your romance or appreciation during a critical time, but choosing a different colored option might work better in your favor.

The language of flowers, otherwise known as floriography, was popular during the Victorian era (check out our list of flower meanings that may surprise you). While flowers are now considered simple gifts for events and holidays, they once held a secret meaning to tell those in your life just how much they mean to you. From your childhood best friend and favorite family member to your secret crush and forever partner, different roses were meant for different people (browse through our list of best flower delivery services to deliver your V-Day roses). That said, consider this comprehensive list of rose color meanings that’ll come in handy the next time you’re flower shopping. Whether you want to show gratitude to a loved one with a dark pink rose, make your significant other feel like royalty with a purple rose or, on the other hand, express your sympathy with a white rose, you’re sure to find this guide helpful.

Rose Color Meanings

The Top Rose Color Meanings You Should Know

If a picture is worth a thousand words, then fresh roses are worth a million. For many years, roses have remained one of the most popular types of flowers for weddings, events, special occasions, holidays, and more. This universal flower comes in a variety of shades, so how do you know which rose color you should pick? After you’ve taken your color palette into consideration, you may want to think about rose color meanings, and what each rose color symbolizes. Understanding flower color meanings will add an extra layer of emotion to your arrangements. Plus, when your blooms align with the message you’re trying to convey, you’ll feel more personally connected to them!

Here are some of the top rose color meanings you should know before ordering your flowers:

Red roses symbolize all those things that make a love story great: Passion, desire, true love, and romance. It’s no wonder why the red rose has become a classic Valentine’s Day flower! In a bridal bouquet or other wedding arrangements, red roses can represent newlywed bliss and mutual respect and appreciation between the couple. In deeper shades, such as burgundy, red roses signify a desire for commitment and a passion for that special someone. If you’re wanting to say those three magic words, red roses are a tried-and-true way to tell someone: “I love you!” With such a classic look, red roses look great with all types of flowers, however, they look especially beautiful with other romantic flowers such as baby’s breath.

The vibrant orange rose speaks for itself as it represents fascination, enthusiasm, desire, and energy. Orange roses also symbolize admiration and excitement, making them the perfect gift for your loved one after a big accomplishment. With such a positive and encouraging meaning, orange roses can be used in many ways. Give an orange rose bouquet to someone when you want to say “I’m proud of you” or place them on your desk for extra motivation. Orange roses in your wedding flowers will also add a burst of energy. If you love the meaning of orange roses but are looking for a more muted color, opt for salmon or coral roses which convey a similar message! White flowers such as lilies will create a beautiful contrast with these blooms.

Yellow roses symbolize friendship and joy. They are also used to represent those feelings that are associated with friendship such as warmth, delight, gladness, caring, and affection. These blooms were once used to communicate jealousy, during the Victorian era. Today, the meaning of yellow roses has evolved to represent more cheerful concepts that match their bright color. These blooms can be used to say a number of things such as “remember me,” “good luck,” or “welcome back, making them a great gift for a friend who needs a little positivity. You can also order yellow roses for your wedding flowers to add a little bit of sunshine and friendship to your big day! Pair this rose color with sunflowers to create a vibrant arrangement.

The meaning of green roses is all about life, growth, and abundance. Green roses symbolize renewal, fertility, and rejuvenation of spirit and energy. They are associated with plentifulness and richness. Their green hue also evokes feelings of balance, stability, and peace. Send green roses to a new mother, or to anyone else who is celebrating new life and abundance. These blooms will symbolize a flourishing marriage on a wedding day while also bringing a sense of peace and rejuvenation to each flower arrangement. Pair these fresh roses with spider mums in a similar color.

Blue roses symbolize mystery, and their unique hue is perfect for celebrating those who aren’t afraid to be themselves. These roses are known to symbolize the impossible or the unattainable, so gift them to someone to say “reach for the stars” or “dream big!” Are you looking for “something blue” on your wedding day? The distinct hue of these flowers will add a touch of color to your big day while also evoking feelings of mystery for your guests. These fresh roses are so striking that they look great all on their own. They also pair well with fresh eucalyptus or white hydrangeas.

Lavender roses represent enchantment, splendor, wonder, and mystery, making this rose color meaning especially inspiring. The whimsical lavender hue is also associated with love or enchantment at first sight! If you’re wanting to show that special someone that they’ve caught your attention, lavender roses are the perfect flower gift to flatter them. In terms of wedding roses, these blooms are a romantic choice to symbolize how enchanting and wonderful true love can be! Lavender roses look lovely with purple carnations.

Pink is one of the most popular rose colors, but what exactly is the meaning of a pink rose? These blooms are symbols of elegance, refinement, sweetness, and femininity. Pink roses are fit for royalty! With so many shades of this rose color, the meaning can actually vary between light and darker hues. Deep and hot pink roses convey appreciation, gratitude, and recognition, making them a great way to say “thank you!” Light pink roses are more often associated with grace, gentleness, joy, and happiness. Use these flowers on your wedding day to add elegance and grace to your flowers, or gift them to a loved one to show them just how sweet you think they are. If you’re looking for the perfect addition to your pink roses, consider adding peonies to the mix!

Peach roses hold special meaning because they convey a sense of sincerity, genuineness, modesty, and gratitude. A bouquet of peach roses is an appropriate gift for saying “thank you.” They also show gratitude after a business deal or communicate sympathy to a loved one. Their down-to-earth hue is representative of modesty and will add a touch of sincerity to your wedding flowers. Of all rose color meanings, we love the genuine and sweet message these blooms convey in both flower gifts and wedding flower arrangements. Add ranunculus flowers to your peach roses for a soft and delicate look.

This rose color meaning can be interpreted in several ways. While the color black has been used to signify death and mourning, making them a common choice for funerals, black roses can have a more positive meaning as well. New beginnings and major changes are common meanings for black roses. These dark and mysterious blooms can also bring confidence, hope, and courage by signaling the start of a new era. These blooms are a bold and mysterious choice for wedding roses and make a great gift for those who are needing a burst of courage as they approach a new season. Dark red garden roses would look luxurious alongside these black flowers.

White roses symbolize purity, youthfulness, and innocence. Young love, eternal loyalty, and new beginnings are also commonly tied to the meaning of white roses, making them a popular choice for weddings and romantic occasions. Their ties to eternal love make them an amazing flower gift for your spouse or significant other. Pair white roses with beautiful greenery such as Italian Ruscus to create a dreamy white flower arrangement.

The meaning of ivory roses is surprisingly different from white roses. These blooms symbolize thoughtfulness, gracefulness, and charm, making them ideal for the significant other or loved one who embodies these traits. This rose color also communicates richness and perfection. Ivory roses are a great way to show someone that you care without communicating as much romance as white roses. Pair these roses with fresh eucalyptus for a stunning effect.

Multicolored roses are a unique choice if you want to combine messages. For example, a yellow rose with red edges can combine the rose color meanings of friendship and love, or a pink and yellow multi-colored rose can symbolize both warmth and joy.

Another way to convey multiple rose color meanings is to mix and match a variety of colors in your arrangement. Combining a mix of colored roses can help you symbolize more than one message. For example, a combination of red and white roses symbolizes passion and everlasting love. This is a perfect combination for wedding flowers or a romantic gift. This is a great option for those who can’t choose just one rose color!

There are several types of Multicolored rose bushes. Generally, a multicolor Rose bush will have a blend of two colors within the bloom. The center of the bloom will be one color, while it will be bordered by a different color. This contrast in color on the bloom itself lends to an extremely beautiful contrast within the entire plant.

One of the most striking multi-colored Rose bushes is the Playboy Rose. This bi-color Rose bush has a border of deep red surrounding the golden-yellow blooms. Hardy in zones four through nine, this Rose bush embodies all the colors of sunset and has a slight fragrance from its flowers. The flowers bloom profusely and are widely grown. This multi-colored Rose bush is a must for any Rose garden.

A second popular Multi-colored Rose bush is the Double Delight Tea Rose. This multi-hued Rose has petals that are a blend of virginal white and bright red. The spicy perfume of this flower will fill the garden air during the entire blooming season. Hardy in zones five through nine, this Rose is very disease resistant and upright.

A third common Multi-colored Rosebush is the Rainbow Happy Trails Rose. This prismatic Rose combines the colors of white, pink, magenta and apricot to remind viewers of a summer dawn sky all summer long. Hardy in zones four through nine, this Multi-colored Rose bush has a lovely fragrance of tea.

Every rose color has a distinct meaning

We all know that roses are red and violets are blue…but actually, roses can also be blue, pink, orange, or even black. And that’s just the beginning. These beautiful flowers come in many different colors, both naturally and with the help of dye. So, which should you choose?

Whether you’re buying for Valentine’s Day or just because, it isn’t simply about picking the color your love, well, loves. You should also take into consideration what each hue signifies, as rose color meaning can range from love and admiration to friendship and even mourning.

“Roses are the perfect embodiment of love, but their colors have different meanings, which can help customers choose the perfect arrangement for their Valentine,” explains Alfred Palomares, Vice President of Merchandising at 1-800Flowers. com. Interesting piece of Valentine’s Day trivia, right?

Just in time for the most romantic and rose-centric day of the year, here’s what you need to know about rose colors so you can send the perfect Valentine’s Day flowers from one of the best online flower delivery services. Choose wisely and they’ll make the perfect Valentine’s Day gifts—especially when paired with one of these romantic Valentine’s Day ideas.

Red roses: Love and admiration

It should come as zero surprise that the trademark rose color of Valentine’s Day symbolizes love and admiration. “Red roses are the most popular and quintessential Valentine’s Day gift,” says Palomares. However, if you are in a newish relationship, you might want to stay away from this distinctive color. “Because they convey a message of deep romantic feelings, they are the perfect gift for your wife or long-term partner.” And, in case you’re curious, this is why roses are so popular on Valentine’s Day.

Green roses: Good news and new beginnings

Most people assume that all green roses are heavily dyed (and should only be given on St. Patrick’s Day), but this isn’t actually the case. Green roses started blooming naturally around 1743. According to some experts, they might be among the oldest roses out of the bunch. But here’s the thing: Authentic, non-dyed green roses don’t actually have petals—just green sepals.

Since green is a color of growth, Palomares explains they can definitely serve a purpose. “The color of life, abundance, and rejuvenation, green roses are a wonderful celebration of good news and new beginnings,” he says.

Black roses: Mourning or chic style

Hold on—do black roses really exist? The answer is: sort of. They don’t exist in nature, and what you probably instead have in front of you is a rose that’s actually a super deep purple or burgundy. But for all intents and purposes, these roses are black, or you may have flowers that have been darkened with dye.

Black roses are probably the most complicated to decipher. Heavily featured in fictional stories over the centuries, they have come to represent everything from mystery and mysticism to death and mourning. While some of their meanings may be negative, they are also unique and can look totally chic in the right arrangement, making them a good choice for non-traditionalists—like those who claim they aren’t super into Valentine’s Day.

Varieties and hybrids with unusual, exotic coloring of flowers are in great demand in modern floristry. The recently popular and incredibly beautiful “rainbow rose” is not a creation of nature, but the work of human hands. It is impossible to grow such a flower, but to create a step-by-step description of the process is within the power of everyone.

Rainbow Rose Story

The idea of obtaining delightful flowers with petals of different colors belongs to the owner of a fairly well-known Dutch company – Peter Van de Werken . It is he who is recognized as the author of the rainbow rose popular all over the world. His idea was the basis for the development of two companies from the Netherlands: F.J. Zandbergen and River Flowers, which quite successfully carried out a whole series of rather complex experiments. It took specialists more than half a year to develop a trouble-free technology for coloring flowers. The result of such developments was the creation in 2004 of an amazing and unusual plant – the rainbow rose.

The basis of creation is to use the natural ability of flowers to absorb moisture and further transfer this moisture to the petals. Pieter Van de Werken conducted the first bold experiment, during which the incised stem of a white-flowered rose was gradually lowered into containers with solutions based on multi-colored dyes. As a result, it was possible to change the natural white color of the rose, and the flowers acquired a fantasy color of all the colors of the rainbow.

Thus, flower growers from different countries currently grow white-flowered varieties of roses, and then subject them to dyeing, adhering to a special technology.

DIY rainbow rose (video)

Easy way to make

Rainbow rose is made not only from white-flowered varieties. If necessary, such an unusual decorative element can be created on the basis of rose varieties, with pale pink or yellowish petals. True, in this case, the result will be somewhat different, and you will have to take into account errors when mixing two or more colors. The standard kit needed to create a rose with rainbow colored flowers consists of a white-flowered ornamental culture, food coloring, room temperature water, a flower vase, molds or simple containers, sharp scissors, a well-sharpened knife or blade.

The technology for making a rainbow rose is not complicated, and consists in the phased implementation of several activities. Preparatory phase:

  • White roses are best, or roses with peach, pale yellow, pink or light pink flowers;
  • flowers with such deep and rich shades as burgundy, dark pink, red or orange cannot be dyed;
  • fully bloomed roses absorb coloring solutions as quickly as possible, and coloring flowers at the budding stage takes quite a long time;
  • cut the stem part should be carried out with a sharp, clean knife, performing it under cool running water;
  • using a sharp and clean blade, split the end of the stem into four parts, at least five to seven centimeters long.

Stain preparation and staining:

  • fill containers prepared in advance for dyeing roses with solutions based on food coloring;
  • the intensity of the final staining of rose petals will directly depend on the concentration of the dye in the water;
  • install the cut part of the stem in separate containers with a dye solution.

To dye only the tips of rose petals, it is enough to soak the stem in dye solutions for several hours. Full coloring can be achieved in a day, but the brightest color is obtained on about the fifth day, after which the flowers can be placed in a vase with plain water.

Tips and tricks

To guarantee a high score, , the following tips should be followed to eliminate the possibility of errors in the process of creating an iridescent rose:

  • The main stage of the entire dyeing process is the extremely accurate and high-quality splitting of the stem part of the rose;
  • before staining, make sure that the dye is well and completely soluble in the aquatic environment;
  • stir dyes in water should be very carefully, avoiding sedimentation and the formation of a suspension of coloring components;
  • the staining process should be carried out in a cool or shaded place from direct sunlight;
  • lower the stem part of the rose should be in a warm coloring solution, which has a lower viscosity and contains a minimum amount of air bubbles;
  • the optimal temperature of the coloring aqueous solution should be approximately 40-42 about C, which allows you to accelerate the absorption of dyes by the plant;
  • in order to obtain uniform coloring of the petals, it is very important to avoid temperature fluctuations and periodically renew sections on the stem.

Roses: variety selection (video)

The great demand and popularity of the rainbow rose allows the use of such unusual flowers for commercial purposes. Their implementation is one of the most profitable investments in the flower business both in our country and in foreign countries. A beautifully decorated bouquet of rainbow roses can be a great gift for any celebration or serve as a spectacular decorative element in a home interior.

history and features of growing colored roses at home

The phrase “rainbow roses” almost does not cause any emotions, except for a little interest. But when you see them in a flower shop, you can’t look away.

Multi-colored petals really amaze with their unusual color, each of them is painted in its own color.

It is also surprising that the colors are very contrasting: blue with yellow, red with gray, pink with greenish. The prices are amazing too.

I immediately remember the scientific progress of in genetics, and every little grower has a desire to grow the same flower at home from a cutting. But no! It turns out that it is impossible to grow a rainbow beauty, but it will not be difficult to paint your own bouquet.

  • How did you manage to get colorful roses?
  • How to get a rainbow rose at home?
    • Rose selection
    • Stain selection
    • How to divide the stem correctly?

How did you manage to get colorful roses?

Pieter Van Werken from Holland, one of the owners of a flower company, was the first to think of getting flowers with multi-colored petals. Genetics at one time made it possible to obtain plants with blue-colored petals, but neither genetics nor selection achieved plants with differently colored petals. A Dutchman’s experiment with spraying petals with various paints did not find application due to the fact that the paint left marks on the hands. But already in 2004, flowers with different colors were obtained by applying knowledge of plant biology and dyes.

Any cut flower absorbs water through the stem capillaries. For the experiment, a white rose with a stem split into several parts was used. A white flower is most suitable for coloring, as the purest shade can be obtained.

How to get a rainbow rose at home?

In order to get a multi-colored flower yourself, you need to:

  • choose the right time;
  • Decide on the colors you want to use;
  • correctly divide the stem of the plant.

Choice of rose

White rose 20-25 cm long should serve as the basis. The choice of flower development stage has a great influence. If the rose flower has almost blossomed, the dye is absorbed quickly. A rose in the bud stage absorbs the dye more slowly, so the color will not be as intense. Of course, you should remember about the life of a cut rose. Here you need to find a middle ground so that the flowers you donated do not wither literally on the same day. As an experiment, you can try to take a light pink or pale yellow rose. Of course, color contrast and brightness will suffer, but you can get something like that.

Choice of dyes

Food colors are suitable, but gouache is not suitable . Usually, from 2 to 4 dyes are used, each of which must be diluted separately, in a tall narrow container. The more you dilute the dye, the more intense the resulting color will be. Paints must be diluted a little earlier than manipulating the plant. Choose high-quality dyes so that the plant has a lasting color.

How to divide the stem correctly?

To obtain a flower with petals of several colors, it is necessary to split the stem into about 2-4 parts, each part will be painted with a certain color. Do not cut the stem into large quantities, as this is technically difficult to produce. The stem of the rose is quite hard and therefore it is necessary to use a sharp knife, but rather a scalpel or blade. The height of the cut is approximately 8-10 cm. The cut must be made under water so that air bubbles do not form, which subsequently prevent the dye from penetrating to the flower.

The container with the diluted dye should be placed as close as possible to each other, everything should be carefully fixed and stabilized. with a particular dye. Vessels with a wide mouth will not fit , as they cannot be moved close to each other. At this stage, you need to be very careful and careful so that some split piece of the stem does not break off.

Already in a day you will see a change in the color of the petals, they will become saturated and bright in about three days. Rainbow flower is ready! Can be moved to ordinary water and a beautiful vase. Rainbow roses at home can stand for about five days. If you add a little sugar, ammonia or aspirin to the water, then the rainbow rose will delight you even longer.

As a result, it should be noted that a colorful flower is an excellent solution for those who want to surprise their loved ones with an interesting gift. When choosing paints, pay attention to the fact that they should be well combined with each other. For dyeing choose fresh flowers in white, so you get the most intense color.

How rainbow roses are made – Bella-Rosa.ru They are undisputed favorites among flower gifts for any occasion and for any celebration. The multi-colored petals of the rainbow rose are absolutely amazing.

The rainbow rose is not artificial, although it looks like a fairy flower. She will not leave anyone indifferent. After all, it will be pleasant and unusual to receive flowers that sparkle with all the colors of the rainbow as a gift. The giver of a bouquet of rainbow roses will be perceived as a modern creative person who is familiar with fashion trends in floral art.

How rainbow roses are made

Under natural conditions, roses have either a single color or a combination of 2-3 shades. In 2004, the Dutch scientist Pieter Van de Werken, during a 6-month experiment, was able to create a new type of rose, which was later called rainbow.

However, the appearance of roses with multi-colored petals was not the result of genetic engineering. Petals got this look thanks to a unique technology. Ordinary white roses were dyed with special dyes for floral design.

Roses absorb moisture through their stems. Therefore, the grower came up with the idea to divide them into capillaries. Then each capillary was separately stained in a certain color.

Of course, the procedure for obtaining rainbow roses is painstaking and expensive. But the buds obtained in this way do not emit a coloring matter through the petals. Therefore, they will not stain hands or clothing.

Is it possible to make rainbow roses at home

Of course, it is better to buy high-quality rainbow roses made by professional florists. But if you really want to create this floral masterpiece at home, then you can try to do it according to the steps of the following instructions:

  1. Prepare a long-stemmed white rose and some food coloring in different colors.

  2. Dyes dissolve well in water in different containers.

  3. Divide the stem of the rose lengthwise into as many sections as there are dye colors prepared.

  4. The rose must be placed in containers with dyes in such a way that each part of the cut stem is in a certain color.

A real rainbow rose can be admired in about a day. After the staining has been successful, the flower can be placed in a vase with plain water. Interestingly, food coloring will not only turn a white rose into a rainbow. They have a preservative effect. Therefore, bright buds will stand in a vase and stay fresh longer than simple white roses.
