Professing to juice everything from the tiny lime to the extra-large grapefruit all the way down to the rind, this Breville Citrus Press Pro is our best citrus press. If you’re in the UK, it’s called the Sage Citrus Press Pro.

We love the Smeg Citrus Juicer. It looks made of powder-coated die-cast aluminum, and the reamer is stainless steel and very durable. The removable parts are dishwasher-safe, and the tritan lid means you can display the juicer without any dust getting on the juicing cup.

You will need to press your halved fruit down onto the reamer, which will cause it to spin and remove the juice and pulp down into the juicing cup. From there, just press the spout down to release the juice into a glass. We were left with totally dry spin, but keep in mind there’s no lever to do the juicing.

The Smeg juicer comes in a range of colors, so it’s also a lovely addition to your kitchen counters. Pair it with the best toasters from Smeg for a complete set.

The BLACK+DECKER 32oz Citrus Juicer is petite powerhouse that keeps going and going. You can choose between a small and a large reamer with the BLACK+DECKER 32oz Citrus Juicer, which makes it perfect for both limes and grapefruits. The pulp strainer is removable, so you can opt for pulp-free or full pulp juices.

Today’s Best Deals

The NutriBullet NBJ50200 Juicer Pro is a brilliant centrifugal juicer. It’s a little different to most citrus juicers because it’s not designed for oranges and lemons specifically. Instead, you can peel your fruit and put it into the feeding chute to extract juice without whole pulp.

This leads to more froth but less pulp overall, and while we prefer the taste of juice when it’s from a peeled orange, you can also put your oranges in whole. The skin will be shredded and juiced as well, which has a more zesty flavor.

You can also use the NutriBullet NBJ50200 Juicer Pro to juice everything from apples and oranges to spinach and ginger. It’s a real all-rounder.

5. Verve Culture Artisan Citrus Juicer

Best orange juicer for cocktail making

Material: Stainless steel

Dimensions: 13.78 x 9.41 x 6.18 inches

Reasons to buy

+

Artisanal Mexican design

+

Made of recycled material

Reasons to avoid

Some muscle is required

Today’s Best Deals

This heavy duty, industrial-style juicer is just the thing to make your kitchen countertop feel as if it’s actually the back bar of a bustling cocktail bar. It’s made of recycled stainless steel, with a handmade Mexican design. That and the manual operation means it’s designed to last, and it will be a real feature in your kitchen for years to come.

It’s second-to-none for longevity, and this is backed up in practice by happy reviewers, who say that it beats the competition with its battleship-like build quality.

Users found it strained out pips and larger bits of flesh, but that if you want a pulpless orange juice, you’ll have to strain it further. However for authentic juice with easy cleaning – the stainless steel business parts are removable and dishwasher safe – it’s a winner. In our opinion, this is the best orange juicer for heavy-duty use.

6. Chef’n Freshforce Citrus Juicer

Best handheld citrus juicer

Specifications

Best for: Smaller oranges

Type: Manual

Material: Ceramic

Dimensions: H8.25 x W26 x D6.98

Reasons to buy

+

Extract juice with not much pressure

+

Can be stored in a drawer

Reasons to avoid

Quite pricey for a handheld squeezer

Today’s Best Deals

You might like the idea of a stationary manual press, but not have the worktop space to accommodate one – if so, this handheld orange squeezer is a great compromise.

By their very nature hand squeezers tend not to be ideal for those who have trouble with their wrists or hands. However, reviewers of this model noted that they didn’t have to apply very much pressure to get a decent result, and Chef’n say the gear mechanism is designed to reduce hand fatigue.

Users commended the quality feel and strength of the metal parts, and loved how much juice (and how few pips) made it through – which is why it’s one of our best orange juicer choices.

7. Cuisinart Citrus Juicer

Best citrus juicer for juice extraction

Specifications

Best for: Maximum juice extraction

Type: Electric

Material: Stainless steel

Dimensions: 6.75 x 7.87 x 12.25 inches

Reasons to buy

+

Impressive functionality for price

+

Spout-press juice release

+

Reverse reamer design

Reasons to avoid

No way to eliminate pulp

Today’s Best Deals

This juicer does require you to press down on the orange half you’re using to get the maximum amount of juice, so if you want a fully automated experience you might want to look at something like the NutriBullet juicer above.

But, for a simple and surprisingly fully-featured juicing option, this seems to hit the mark admirably. If you’re big on no waste and want to ensure you get every last drop of juice from your oranges, this is the best orange juicer for maximum juice extraction.

8. OXO Good Grips 2-in-1 Citrus Juicer

The best citrus juicer for baking

Specifications

Best for: Baking and cooking

Type: Manual

Material: Plastic

Dimensions: 5.2 x 5.7 x 8.5 inches

Reasons to buy

+

Lightweight and compact

+

Different reamers for different fruits

+

Dishwasher-safe

Reasons to avoid

It’s all manual

Today’s Best Deals

This inexpensive citrus press is already more economical than a few weeks of buying separate bottles of juice from the store. With a measuring cup for easy use in cooking and baking measurements, it’s simple to use it in your kitchen.

Its big seller is the selection of reamer sizes. It’s easy to clean too, with a dishwasher-safe design that will work on citrus fruits of all types.

What to consider when buying the best orange juicer?

Depending on how much elbow grease you’re happy to spend on your morning juice, you can choose between two different types of juicer: manual or electric. It’s a given that electric juicers are more expensive thanks to all that complex circuitry, but if you usually find yourself in a rush, the convenience they offer can transcend the initial annoyance of spending more. The lower level of exertion they require also makes them better for juicing enthusiasts with mobility issues or arthritis, as some manual juicers require you to really put your back into it.

When looking for an electric juicer, consider the capacity of the inner reservoir, if it has one, and whether it corresponds with the amount of juice you’ll be needing to press in one go. You also might want to consider the capacity of the motor to handle large orders – that is, will it start to run out of steam or give out a suspicious burning smell after a few minutes of constant operation?

If you’re planning on reserving your juicing for the weekend, or time’s not an issue, a manual orange juicer may cut it. We’ve included a selection of manual juicers that forego the traditional reamer (that’s the cone onto which you’d squish the fruit) and opt instead for sturdy steampunk-look stand presses, or even handheld models that can be stowed in the drawer.

Is a citrus juicer worth it?

If you drink a lot of orange or grapefruit juice, a juicer will soon earn its worth. Even the most expensive juicers on our list cost less than continually purchasing lots of liter-sized bottles from a premium juice brand. With the cheaper buys on our list, you would make your money back with the equivalent of ten bottles, even when you add in the cost of the oranges. You also get fresher juice that is additive free and can make as much or as little as you need, to avoid waste.

Those who use a lot of citrus juice in cooking won’t need an electric juicer but can make do with a hand press that will make it quicker and easier to squeeze half a lemon, lime or orange into your recipe.

This citrus Breville juicer is designed to make juicing a simple, fast, and quiet process. The reamer has ridges of varying sizes and is pointed to make it easy to juice any fruits from key limes to grapefruits without having to change out the reamer. The motor is activated by the lever arm, which does not take much force so your arm won’t be tired after juicing numerous fruits. Unlike many other electric juicers, this unit comes with two options for pulp control – giving you far more options than a simple strainer that keeps all pulp out of your juice. Plus, the spout is high enough to fit most juice glasses and has a locking mechanism when you are done pouring to prevent drips.

Although the exterior of the unit appears to be fully stainless steel, the interior is actually BPA-free plastic. These parts are easily removable for cleaning in the dishwasher or by a quick rinse. But users note that the plastic piece that holds the fruit dome in place breaks easily and repeatedly and that Breville does not cover this piece under the one-year warranty. Although the piece is inexpensive to replace, this can be annoying given the premium price of the juicer.

Why did it make our list?

  • Stylish modern look
  • Easily activated lever arm
  • Universal reamer design
  • Pulp control feature

What is not ideal about it?

  • Plastic piece holding fruit dome is prone to breaking

Cuisinart is one of the most respected names in kitchen appliances, so it should come as no surprise that they make one of the best citrus juicers on the market. This electric juicer features a universal cone that is shaped to work equally well on fruits as small as key limes and as large as grapefruits. Plus, it is relatively quiet and fast – users noted that it took longer to cut fruit in half than it did to juice it.

One of the best aspects of this juicer is how well it works to squeeze every bit of juice out of your fruit. The reamer is auto-reversing so that it gets all of the pulp and juice out of the fruit before discarding it. Then, once the fruit is removed, you can use the final-spin feature to spin out the remaining juice out of the pulp. Plus, like other electric juicers, this model has a three-option setting to control how much pulp ends up in your juice.

The construction is dishwasher safe, although users noted that the dishwasher was hardly necessary to clean it if you just wash it out immediately after use. The plastic cover is BPA free, while the remainder of the unit is stainless steel and comes with a whopping three-year warranty.

What stands out?

  • Auto-reversing and final-spin functions
  • 3 settings for pulp retention
  • Easy to clean
  • Three-year warranty

What cons did we manage to find?

  • Auto-reverse feature can sometimes pull in skin

This inexpensive citrus juicer from Procter Silex was picked by Wirecutter as the best juicer for the money on the market today, and for good reason. At a budge price, this juicer offers many of the features of high-end juicers. The reamer is not universal, but the unit is provided with one large and one small reamer. However, the reamer does have the auto-reverse feature for highly efficient juice extraction. Plus, the juicer has a dial for controlling how much pulp gets into your juice – a feature that is typically reserved for more expensive juicers.

Unique among juicers, this model also includes a built-in pitcher. Although this can be a pain if you are planning to make only a single glass of juice, it is perfect when you are planning to juice a lot of fruit and want to store it in the fridge without transferring it. Plus, Procter Silex includes a recipe book with the juicer in order to help you make the most of your new juicer.

The juicer can be easily taken apart and all of the BPA-free plastic parts are dishwasher safe. The juicer also comes with a one-year warranty for peace of mind.

Why is it special?

  • Auto-reverse reamer and pulp control dial
  • Built-in pitcher
  • Inexpensive

What are the flaws?

  • Reamer is not universally sized
  • Pitcher design is annoying for single glass

This model comes with a nice, ergonomic grip that helps to reduce the pressure on your hand as you juice. It features a drip-free spout as well, so you do not have to worry about making a mess as you juice – a huge plus for keeping your kitchen clean while juicing.

You get a pair of juicer cones that allow you to vary reamer sizes and do this separately.

Additionally, the juicer is straightforward to clean, either just to rinse or to put into a dishwasher all the detachable plastic parts. The remainder of the juicer is modern-looking stainless steel that is easy to wipe down.

With a 160W motor, you have a powerful unit that is capable of juicing a wide variety of fruits.

It also produces very little noise. The parts are made of plastic, but during our testing, we discovered them to be quite durable. Additionally, these parts are BPA-free.

Overall, this is an excellent alternative to your manual juicer and relieves your arms.

To get the best possible juice extraction of your fruits and vegetables, you must have a juice with a powerful motor. It will deliver a quick and stress-free process that will allow you have what you want in a short time.

Now, this model, the Black and Decker comes with such a motor, as well as other features that make it stand out among its peers. It comes with a 30 watt motor that will turn you vegetables and fruits into juice with incredible ease. Aside from the powerful motor, it is further aided by auto reversing juicing cones.

Black and Decker is an industry leader in production of kitchen appliances amongst other industries. It isn’t the best on this list, but it belongs among the best options you can buy on the market.

The design and build is impressive. It comes with cones made of safe, high quality plastic that will turn your fruits to juice and that will last after years of intense use. It is a compact option that weighs just 2 pounds. Therefore, it can be carried around and can fit most countertops comfortably. It can also be stored without taking up plenty of space in the kitchen.

We love the cord storage port that is built in the appliance. That way, you can keep the cord out of the way when not in use.  It comes with a transparent juice container that lets the user see how much juice is being produced by the appliance.

Aside from the nice build and design features, this model comes with an adjustable pulp control filter. This feature lets the user completely control the juicing process; choosing the amount of pulp that should be in the juice. From our testing, this appliance rarely gets clogged with seeds or pulp. Now, we aren’t saying that it doesn’t get clogged up at all, but we mean that it occurs infrequently.

The quality and yield of juice makes this product a must have. Due to its build, its powerful motor, and auto-reversing function, it produces a good yield of juice that tastes wonderful.

Why did it make our list?

  • Affordable
  • Adjustable pulp
  • Safe parts

The parts are dishwasher safe which means that you will save time spent hand washing the appliance. Furthermore, the stainless steel filter helps to prevent the pulp from mixing with your juice. Therefore, by using this option, you can handle a wide variety of fruits, ranging from lime to lemon, and grapefruit. The multi-purpose cone is BPA free and can take fruits of various sizes

It comes at a very affordable price and still offers plenty of advantages. One thing we love about this juicer is that it comes with a big chute. Therefore, you don’t have to cut down all your ingredients into small sizes before feeding the juicer.

Cleaning this juicer is quite easy. The appliance comes with detachable parts. During testing, we observed that it can be set up and disassembled in mere seconds. If you hate the part where you have to clean, at least knowing that you don’t have to spend minutes breaking down the appliance can be a difference maker.

What do we love it for?

  • Easy to use

This citrus juicer from Tribest is not fancy, but it gets the juicing job done consistently.

The juicer has an auto-reversing cone reamer that is designed to fit any size of fruit. The reamer is activated by pressure, meaning that it is extremely easy to start and stop simply by pushing your fruit against the cone. However, this design also means that you’ll need to get your hands dirty holding the fruit while the juicing is happening.

The juice collection area is large enough to allow you to juice multiple fruits rapidly in succession without overflowing. Meanwhile, the fine mesh built into the spout will keep almost all of the pulp out of your juice – unfortunately, there are no options for pulp control – without experiencing clogs. The stainless steel spout has the ability to lock to prevent drips, which means your kitchen will stay clean throughout the juicing process.

Cleaning is easy thanks to the dishwasher safe parts, although as for other juicers a simple rinse will suffice. The juicer also comes with a one-year warranty, although users reported using this juicer for multiple years with no issues – a great sign for a kitchen appliance that you want to get some mileage out of.

What are our favorite features?

  • Pressure activated reamer
  • Stainless steel lockable spout
  • Durable construction and electronics

What could be better?

  • Lacks pulp control options
  • Design does not look modern

Things to Consider

Now that you’ve seen our picks for the top 12 citrus juicers on the market, our Buying Guide will explore some of the features to consider when choosing the citrus juicer that is right for you.

Why buy a separate juicer for citrus fruits?

A common question for people unfamiliar with citrus juicers is why you would purchase a separate juicer from the one commonly used for other fruits. The reason is that most fruit juice extractors require a lot of preparation for citrus, including peeling away the thick waxy skin and removing pits or the majority of seeds. This is a big problem for citrus because it can make preparing something like an orange for juicing a daunting task.

In addition, citrus juicers offer options for regulating the amount of pulp that gets into your juice and are typically easier to clean than juice extractors, especially when the latter get clogged with pulp.

How does a citrus juicer work?

A citrus juicer typically requires you just to cut whatever fruit you are juicing in half, then press it against the juicer. Juicers typically press the fruit against a central reamer, which then turns on its own or against which you can rotate the fruit, then direct the juice through a spout and into your cup or pitcher. Some juicers have handles that allow you to apply pressure, while others hold the fruit automatically, and others still have a screw-pressure press function. Although not all citrus juicers treat pulp equally, most will prevent the pulp from getting into hard to clean places and some will allow it through with the juice more or less depending on your preferences

Choosing between different types of citrus juicers

There are three primary types of citrus juicers – squeezers, manual juicers, and electric juicers . Squeezers create juice by placing the fruit between two plates, then squeeze the attached levers together to force the juice out. Manual juicers are setup somewhat differently – the fruit is placed onto a ridged reamer and the juice is forced out by rotating it against the reamer. Electric juicers use the same design but make the process more automatic by having the reamer turn on its own while you hold the fruit in place. The best choice of electric juicer for citrus and oranges is a centrifugal juicer.

For both manual and electric juicers, look for those that have a lever handle on the top press since this makes it easy to control the pressure being applied to the fruit for consistent juicing.

Pulp regulation

Pulp regulation is a premium feature in citrus juicers that allow you to set how much pulp you would like to allow into the juice or filter out. This is especially important if you prefer no- or low-pulp juice, since many juicers without pulp regulation will leave you with juice full of pulp.

How messy is the process?

One of the common concerns about using a citrus juicer is how messy the process will be – after all, no one wants sticky citrus juice splashing all over the kitchen. The best juicers will have the reamer specifically designed to reduce the likelihood of splashing, such as a splash guard around the reamer or a plastic cover to keep any splashes from the fruit contained within the juicer. Moreover, many citrus juicers have a drip-stop spout to prevent slow leaks that can otherwise leave a puddle of sticky juice on your counter. In addition, consider whether you have to manually hold the fruit during the juicing process or whether the juicer has a built-in press with a lever that can keep you hands off the fruit and away from the stickiest part of the process.

Reverse feature

Some electric juicers can spin not only in one, but in both directions. This reverse spinning action works more efficiently to get the last drops of juice and pulp out of citrus fruit compared to other juicers. Many electric juicers will automatically spin in reverse, while some will allow you to choose when to activate the reverse function.

Ease of cleaning

Ease of cleaning is extremely important for a juicer – after all, if your juicer is hard to clean, you will hesitate before using it. Juicers that have few internal parts and a well-designed storage area for discarded pulp are the easiest to clean. An especially important categorization here is dishwasher safe, since if you can simply drop your juicer into the dishwasher when you are done using it cleanup is a snap. The number of different parts that a juicer breaks down into also matters, since you’ll need to break it down and reassemble it after each use to clean it fully.

Price and warranty

Of course, you’ll need to consider your budget when considering which citrus juicer is right for your kitchen. Manual squeezers and juicers are typically the least expensive, although even prices for these can vary widely. Electric juicers have a huge variation in price depending on the amount of marketing and consumer research that went into the product design, as well as accessories and the addition of features like drip-stop spouts and reverse spinning. Many juicers, but not all, come with a one-year limited warranty – although this might not seem like a long time, it can add a significant peace of mind as you get used to using your new juicer.

Construction

One of the most important considerations in a citrus juicer is what materials it is made of. Since you’ll be drinking or eating the juice that comes out of the juicer, it is important that the juicer is constructed of food-grade plastic or stainless steel and that any plastic parts are free of toxic BPA. Stainless steel offers more durability in the long-term that plastic, especially if you plan to use your juicer heavily. In addition, consider opting for a juicer with dishwasher-safe plastic and stainless steel parts to make cleaning significantly faster and easier.

Accessories

Although not make or break for most juicer purchase choices, small accessories like an included pitcher or a second plastic cover for juicing can be nice additions. These features allow you to get to juicing more quickly and, in the case of a second plastic cover, can allow you to juice multiple times before having to clean out the juicer entirely.

Conclusion

A citrus juicer is an excellent addition to your kitchen that can provide fast, healthy juice from citrus fruits. You have the peace of mind of knowing that juice is free of preservatives and added sugar, plus the potential to try out new recipes that call for fresh juice. However, it is important to find a juicer that fits your needs since things like pulp regulation and ease of cleaning can make or break how much you actually look forward to using your juicer. This is where electric juicers can provide a special advantage since they make it easy to use your juicer so that you’ll actually be more likely to take advantage of having it around. Our reviews of the 12 best citrus juicers on the market today, along with our Buying Guide, provide all of the information you need in order to find the citrus juicer that is right for you.

Most people would agree that fresh juice makes everything taste better, from lemon meringue pie and French lime sorbet to blood orange panna cotta and grapefruit shandy. While you can squeeze these fruits by hand, a dedicated citrus juicer will help get the job done pulp- and seed-free with very little effort.

The Spruce Eats Top Picks

The Zulay Professional Heavy Duty Citrus Juicer is the clearcut overall winner because of its sturdy design and exceptional extraction. This juicer is meant to last and can turn out large quantities of juice from any size citrus fruit. For a lower price point juicer, the Black+Decker CJ625 Citrus Juicer is a solid option.

The type of tool you need, however, depends on the volume of juice you want to make, how much storage space you have, price, and more. Do you prefer a handheld or countertop device? Manual or electric? Surprisingly, there are highly effective juicers at nearly every price point and size.

Who else recommends it? Insider also picked the Zulay Professional Heavy Duty Citrus Juicer.

What do buyers say? 91% of 6,200+ Amazon reviewers rated this product 4 stars or above.

This commercial-grade juicer by Zulay uses gravity and leverage to help extract as much juice as possible with a simple pull of the handle. With its cast-iron base and sturdy design, this classic juice press is a true workhorse. Often used by bartenders who make their own mixers, it’s exceptional for pressing large quantities of any size citrus fruit, from key limes to grapefruits and everything between. It also comes in a multitude of colors (even rose gold; view on Amazon) to complement your kitchen decor.

One thing to note is that this juicer will likely have to live on a countertop full time, as its weight and size make it awkward to transfer in and out of storage. But if you do have the counter space, this press is perfect for making fresh-squeezed orange or grapefruit juice at a moment’s notice. To clean, give it a thorough wipe down with a damp cloth and let air dry.

If your kitchen is on the small side, the handheld Chef’n FreshForce Citrus Juicer is an ideal pick for making lemons into lemonade. It actually comes in three sizes—orange, lemon, and lime (but sadly, there isn’t one to accommodate larger citrus, like grapefruit). Since this juicer is portable and lightweight, you can put it directly over whatever you’re making, whether it be a pan-seared sole meunière or zesty summer cocktail.

“It has only one moving part and, perhaps most importantly, takes up very little space,” says Omid Tavallai, chef and cofounder of Emperor Norton in Paris. This model is also dishwasher safe, making for easy cleanup. It’s an easy-to-use piece of kitchenware. The only caveat is that if you’re planning on juicing a lot of fruit, your hands may get tired after a while.

This retro-style juicer by Smeg is easily one of the most attractive citrus juicers out there. It’s beautiful enough to sit on your countertop all the time and is available in a variety of colors to match your decor.

Besides being easy on the eyes, this Italian-designed appliance has a built-in sensor that activates when you apply pressure onto the universal reamer, making quick work of juicing any size of citrus fruit. The stainless steel strainer removes all seeds and also catches most of the pulp, keeping just enough to add some texture to the juice.

To prevent spills, the anti-drip spout flips down to release the juice into your receptacle and flips back up again to stop the flow. The Tritan dome lid doubles as both a bowl for citrus rinds and dust cover for the machine when it’s not in use. Cleaning is easy, thanks to the removable components that can go right into the dishwasher (or be hand washed quickly). It is a gorgeous and functional addition to any kitchen.

Final Verdict

The Zulay Professional Heavy Duty Citrus Juicer is our No. 1 pick because of its top-notch extraction and ability to juice large quantities. Plus, it’s built to last. For a traditional handheld juicer that’ll get the job done just right, go for the Chef’n FreshForce Citrus Juicer.

What to Look for in a Citrus Juicer

Type

There are two main types of juicers: manual and electric. Manual juicers are great since they can be used anywhere—no plug required. If you prefer electric models, you’ll want to check that you have space near an outlet for your juicer when it comes time to use it or that your machine has a cord long enough to reach an available outlet.

Size

Most juicers (with the exception of handheld models) require counter space, so you’ll want to be sure that the footprint of the juicer is just right. Lever-type manual juicers are often left on the countertop, as they tend to be heavy and difficult to move. Smaller electric juicers are usually light enough to be taken out only when needed (you’ll just have to ensure you have somewhere to store it when it’s not in use). If you have a very compact kitchen, a manual handheld juicer (like a citrus reamer) is the way to go.

Capacity

Some juicers are designed with their own canisters that collect juice as it is being pressed. While it is very convenient, bear in mind your capacity needs as some of these containers can be on the smaller side. If you want to be able to squeeze more than 4 cups of juice in one go (like if you’re making lemonade for a picnic), consider picking a model that lets you use your own containers, so you can keep juicing without having to stop and empty your canister.

FAQs

How do you use a citrus juicer?

For best results, roll your citrus fruit on your countertop or cutting board using the weight of your hand to gently press the fruit to help the flesh start to release its juice. Then, cut the fruit in half crosswise to expose its sections. For juicers with a reamer, place the center of the cut citrus on the pointy end and continue juicing according to the manufacturer’s instructions. For handheld squeeze-type juicers, you will want to cut the skin off of the ends of the fruit as well and place it into the juicer’s bowl with the large end up, then press the handles together to squeeze out all of the juice.

Do you peel citrus before juicing?

For dedicated citrus juicers, peeling your fruit is unnecessary. All you have to do is slice your citrus in half (crosswise) so that the flesh is exposed. From there, you can use your juicer as directed by your user’s manual. If you’re using a regular juicer (a centrifugal or masticating type), you’ll want to consult the juicer’s manual to see how it handles citrus fruit.

How do you clean a citrus juicer?

For best results, you will want to clean your juicer as soon as you’re done using it. While citrus juice actually helps to keep things clean, you still need to run all its detachable parts under running water (or through the dishwasher if recommended by the manufacturer). Luckily, most electric citrus juicers have a simple design that allows for easy cleaning. Many manual juicers are top-rack dishwasher safe, as well. Wooden reamers should be washed by hand, and heavy lever-type juicers can typically be wiped clean with a damp cloth. As always, consult the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning instructions specific to your juicer.

11 Best Citrus Juicers of 2022

Written by Lindsay D. Mattison

Updated May 27, 2022

There are very few recipes that don’t benefit from a splash of lemon, lime, or orange juice. A touch of bright citrus brings out the best flavors in seafood dishes and adding an orange to your favorite pulled pork recipe really takes it up a notch. Sometimes, it’s as simple as fancying up sour cream with a sprinkle of coriander and a splash of fresh lime juice. Not to mention the merits of adding one (or, all three) ingredients to your favorite cocktail or homemade soda! The easiest way to make these additions is to use a citrus juicer–like the top-performing handheld squeezer Chef’n FreshForce Citrus Juicer (available at Amazon for $19.97).

When you think juicers, your mind probably goes to those big electric citrus juicers capable of taking down leafy greens and tough root vegetables. Those models will work, but they’re often overkill when it comes to citrus. Instead of throwing any of those juicers into the mix, we focused on the simple models, including some manual juicers, that allow you to slice a lemon in half and get to juicing.

As it turns out, there are four different types: handheld squeezers, wooden reamers, tabletop hand juicers, and motorized models. We didn’t want to assume one type would perform better than the rest—so we tested them all! After squeezing dozens upon dozens of lemons, limes, and oranges, we didn’t find that one type is necessarily better than the others, but some are certainly easier to use and yield more juice.

Here are the best citrus juicers we tested ranked, in order.

  1. Chef’n FreshForce Citrus Juicer
  2. OXO Good Grips Wooden Reamer
  3. Black and Decker CJ625 34-ounce Citrus Juicer

Best Overall

Chef’n FreshForce Citrus Juicer

There’s a lot to love about the Chef’n FreshForce Citrus Juicer. We immediately noticed how easy this juicer was to use, thanks to the large, comfortable handles and a gear mechanism that helped us press into the fruit without much effort. It was one of the fastest juicers we used, and it did so without sacrificing the quality of the juice. Unlike most of the juicers (which feature tiny little holes), the Chef’n has star-shaped slits in the bottom of the hopper. Those slits worked magic, allowing the juice to pass through without any seeds and a limited amount of pulp. It was also less messy than most of the units, barely spraying any juice out the sides as you used it.

Chef’n spared no attention to detail here, including tiny feet on the bottom of the hopper that allow the juicer to sit on the counter without falling over. Not only that, but it has a small profile that easily fits into the gadget drawer and it’s super simple to clean by hand, or it’s dishwasher safe if placed on the top rack. This type of citrus juicer is a no-brainer to use, even if you only need a mere tablespoon of juice. While it wouldn’t be my top choice for anyone looking to juice massive amounts of oranges (and, it’s not large enough for grapefruit juice), it performs perfectly for anyone looking to use citrus juice in cooking or cocktail recipes. All that comes together to make it our top pick for Best Overall.

Best Value

OXO Good Grips Wooden Reamer

The least expensive juicer in the group was also one of our favorites. The OXO Good Grips Wooden Reamer is definitely a minimalist version of a citrus juicer. It requires you to hold the citrus in one hand and press the reamer into the flesh with the other, so there’s very little between you and the juicing process. As you might imagine, this juicer was the slowest and also happened to the messiest (we definitely found out about all those tiny cuts in our hands as we used it!). But, it had one of the highest juice yields and we thought the orange juice tasted sweeter than any other method.

If you don’t mind taking your time and getting a touch messy, this value-priced $6 tool is for you. We’d especially recommend this juicer for anyone making small-batch cocktails: The resulting juice tasted so good!

Best Electric

Black and Decker CJ625 Citrus Juicer

If you’re a big fresh-squeezed orange juice fan, you’ll love the Black and Decker CJ625 34-ounce Citrus Juicer. This auto-reversing motorized juicer was the second fastest in the group, making quick work of juicing our lemons, limes, and oranges. The unit has two juicing sizes—a smaller cone for lemons and limes, and a larger one for orange and grapefruit—both of which worked perfectly. We detected almost no bitterness in the orange juice, and we loved how easily the bowl clipped into the base. It also has an adjustable pulp control feature, and the rotating reamer’s design helped prevent the pulp from clogging the basket (even on the low-pulp setting).

It takes up about the same amount of space as a small food processor, and the juicing bowl doubles as a pitcher complete with measuring cup markings. If you’re specifically looking for a motorized citrus juicer that can handle large quantities of juice and isn’t terribly loud, this is the unit for you.

How We Tested Citrus Juicers

Credit: Reviewed / Lindsay D. Mattison

We juiced over a hundred lemons, limes, and oranges to find the best juicer!

The Tester

Hi, I’m Lindsay Mattison, a trained professional chef and a huge proponent of building layers of flavor. The difference between good food and great food often comes down to the smallest factors, like adding the salt or finishing the dish with a touch of acid. My handheld citrus juicer works overtime, making it quick and easy to add fresh juice to my favorite dishes. I also tend to reach for it when I’m looking to add zest and tang to my favorite cocktails. If you don’t have a go-to citrus juicer, I’d love to help you find one!

The Tests

We selected a dozen juicers of all shapes and varieties. We ended up with one handheld reamer, four handheld squeezers, five tabletop hand juicers, and four motorized juicers. Our tests were relatively straight forward: juice three lemons, limes, and oranges in each unit. In the end, we were looking for a juicer that was not only efficient and easy to use, but also produced the maximum quantity of high-quality juice.

To determine efficiency, we timed ourselves as we processed the fruit. Some of the juicers were clunky and it took extra time to churn out the juice. On other units, the time ticked away as we struggled to remove spent citrus from the hopper or the unit became overly clogged with pulp. We averaged the times and ranked and rated the juicers accordingly.

In addition to time trials, we also weighed the citrus before and after juicing. We were looking for a product that produced a maximum quantity of juice, but not without affecting the quality. We took points off if a ton of pulp or seeds passed through the juicer, and we awarded bonus points for orange juice that didn’t have any traces of bitterness.

Finally, it’s all about ease of use. After all, if it takes too much effort to pull out the juicer (or, it’s a pain to clean), you won’t be as likely to use it. We were looking for a model that didn’t slip around or tire our hands as we juiced. In addition to measuring the splash radius to see how much mess each juicer created, we also assessed how easy it was to assemble and store.

After working with hundreds of pieces of citrus, we not only found every cut and scratch on our hands, but we also learned how valuable it is to have a good juicer!

What You Should Know About Citrus Juicers

Credit: Reviewed /Lindsay D. Mattison

There are a few different types of citrus juicers: handheld squeezers, wooden reamers, tabletop hand juicers, and motorized models.

Unlike larger juicers capable of juicing everything from kale to sweet potatoes, citrus juicers have a more specific purpose. You can juice citrus in a larger juicer, but you usually have to remove the peels first. With citrus-specific juicers, you simply cut the fruit in half, making these models ideal for juicing a tablespoon of juice for baking recipes or a single glass for drinking. They’re typically much less expensive than larger juicers, too (although some of the models we tested pushed the limits of our budget).

You’ll find a shocking variety of styles in the citrus juicing world: handheld reamers, handheld squeezers, tabletop hand juicers, and motorized juicers. Is one type really better than the other? After extensive testing, I can honestly say: No, they all have their benefits and drawbacks. Handheld reamers were slow and messy—so you need to be okay with that—but they were shockingly efficient and produced some of the sweetest tasting juices. Handheld squeezers are my personal favorite because they’re easy to store and keep the mess to a minimum. That being said, they’re not ideal for larger citrus and they wouldn’t be my go-to choice for juicing a glass of OJ every morning.

The tabletop models are better suited for drinking juice because they make it easier to work with larger citrus, like oranges or grapefruit. We found the hand juicers more tiring to use than the squeezers, though, especially if you’re working with a large quantity of citrus. Finally, the motorized versions were often the fastest and easiest to use, but many of these models produced bitter juice because they over-worked the pith (the white, bitter part of the citrus fruit, found in between the flesh and the rind). They also take up more space on the counter and can be noisy.

Really, at the end of the day, it’s up to you to decide what model is best for you! Take a close look at why you want to juice citrus and how much you want to spend, and make your decision from there.

Other Citrus Juicers We Tested

Breville BCP600 Citrus Press

If money isn’t an object and you have some counter space to spare, you really can’t go wrong with the Breville BCP600SIL Citrus Press. It was the fastest juicer in the group and it had the best overall juice yield, all with a whisper-quiet motorized operation. The orange juice tasted rich and full-bodied with no pithy bitterness, and it has a sleek design that looks great on the counter.

So why didn’t the Breville win best overall? If this had been an orange juice contest, it would have. However, this juice presser is overkill if you’re just trying to squeeze a single lemon to cook with. It’s also more than six times the cost of our winning handheld squeezer, which yielded nearly as much sweet-tasting juice and took just a tad longer to produce it. We love this juicer for those of you who squeeze a glass of orange juice every morning, but can’t award it our top seat because of the price.

Cuisinart CCJ-500 Pulp Control Citrus Juicer

If we had one major complaint about the Cuisinart CCJ-500 Citrus Juicer, it was around the pulp control. It just didn’t seem to work that well, clogging up at times and allowing too much pulp through at others. The reamer attachment was easy enough to remove to clean that pulp out, but it was a bit awkward to put back into place. Other than that, this motorized citrus juicer had a great juice yield and produced delicious juice. It’s also decently quiet and smaller than the other electric juicers (not to mention that the stainless-steel finish blended in nicely while not in use).

Pros
  • Good yield

  • Produces good juice

  • Quiet and compact

Prepara Juiciest Juicer

The minimalist-designed Prepara Glass Citrus Juicer fell firmly in the middle of the pack. It’s super small and low-profile, and you can screw off the juicing attachment and replace it with the included storage cap. It doesn’t hold a ton of liquid–only five ounces, or a little more than half a cup–but it’s a nice feature if you have any leftover juice. The tiny slits in the juicer allowed some pulp and smaller seeds to get through, but they also tended to get clogged easily. As far as tabletop hand juicers go, it wasn’t our top pick but we were pretty pleased with this one.

Gourmia GMJ9970 Large Citrus Juicer

There’s no way to get around it: the Gourmia GMJ9970 Large Citrus Juicer is a big heavy-duty professional-style citrus juicer that would fit in nicely behind a craft cocktail bar! That being said, it may be a bit overkill for your home, especially if counter space is a premium. We loved the way the pull-handle design worked, and while it wasn’t the fastest, it did have the second-best juice yield. Not only that, but the orange juice was sweet and full-flavored with the perfect amount of pulp. The only thing we didn’t love about this cast-iron juicer was the way it dripped when you removed your cup, along with the higher-than-average price tag.

Bellemain Stainless Steel Lemon Squeezer

All in all, we liked the heavy, attractive-looking Bellemain Premium Quality Stainless Steel Lemon Squeezer. It had comfortable silicone handles that helped us squeeze with ease, and its low-profile shape makes it easy to stuff into the gadget drawer. When it came to performance, it fell right in the middle of the pack: It didn’t struggle in any way, but it also didn’t do anything that impressed us. If our top pick for handheld squeezers is out-of-stock and you’re specifically looking for that style, we’d definitely still recommend this one.

Zulay Manual Citrus Press Juicer

During the testing, we discovered our dislike for the 2-in-1 style handheld squeezer, like the Zulay Premium Quality Metal Lemon Lime Squeezer. The squeezer has two settings–one for lemons and one for limes–but the barrier tended to get in the way when we used the juicer. It also made the unit harder to clean by hand (although, it’s dishwasher safe if placed on the top rack) and we found that we had to put in more effort to squeeze the citrus than we’d like.

Pros
  • Cute looking

Lu Cucina Citrus Juicer & Strainer

You might think the stainless steel finish on the Lu Cucina Citrus Juicer & Strainer would make it attractive, but unfortunately, it looked like a cheap metal utensil you’d find in a box full of camping tools. The juicing mechanism itself was super wide and duller than the other juicers, making it significantly harder to use. It slid around as we forced citrus onto the juicer, causing some splashing along the way. We weren’t surprised when it turned out this juicer yielded the least amount of juice in the group.

Avoid

Proctor Silex Alex’s Lemonade Stand Citrus Juicer

We were less than impressed with the Proctor Silex 66331 34-ounce Alex’s Lemonade Stand Citrus Juicer. It produced a surprisingly low amount of juice considering that it’s a motorized juicer, and the juice it did produce was pithy and bitter. Even on the low pulp setting, this juicer let way too much pulp through, and since it had so many removable parts it was also hard to clean. The kicker: This juicer was super loud! For the price, you can get a much, much better unit.

The Best Manual Citrus Juicers and Reamers of 2022

Straight to the Point

The best manual juicer for lemons and limes is the Chef’n FreshForce Citrus Juicer, while the OXO Good Grips Wooden Reamer took the top spot for manual reamers.

Editor’s Note

The OXO Good Grips Citrus Juicer we tested is no longer in stock and appears to be discontinued. We’ll plan to update this testing, but, for now, the link in the review is to a similarly designed (and priced) model, also from OXO.

Electric citrus juicers are great, especially if you like making big batches of lemonade or fresh-squeezed orange juice, but they’re impractical for recipes that call for just a couple of lemons or limes. That’s when a simple manual citrus juicer comes in handy. It’s the sort of unassuming kitchen tool that you’ll find yourself reaching for again and again, for salad dressings, cocktails, baking, or adding that critical hit of acid to whatever you might be cooking for dinner.

17 Refreshing Recipes for Lemonade and Limeade

But there are good manual juicers and bad manual juicers. Good ones will quickly extract more juice than you can by hand, and will automatically strain out the pulp and seeds. Bad ones can take just as long, or longer, to juice a piece of fruit as your bare hands, and are just as messy. We put a whole bunch of top-rated citrus juicers to the test. Many hours, several hundred fruits, several gallons of juice, and two tired wrists later, we landed on our favorite models.

The Winners at a Glance

The Best Handheld Citrus Reamer: OXO Good Grips Wooden Reamer

Buy on Amazon

If you’re in the market for a simple reamer for occasional juicing, this wooden model from OXO is under $10, easy to store, and did a good job at juicing citrus.

The Best Citrus Juicer for Orange Juice: OXO Good Grips Citrus Juicer

Buy on Amazon

Our favorite orange juicer, from OXO, performed well and was moderately priced at about $16. However, the model we tested is no longer in stock and appears to be discontinued. We’ll plan to update this testing, but, for now, the link above is to another similarly designed (and priced) model from OXO.

The Categories

Manual citrus juicers fall into several distinct categories. The simplest is the handheld reamer, which you hold in one fist and dig straight into the citrus half. There’s also the hinged squeezer, a press that squeezes one citrus half at a time, the same way a nutcracker cracks nuts. Then there is the tabletop juicer, which has a reamer attached to a container, and the larger, lever-operated tabletop press (you may have seen these behind the bar), plus a few oddball outliers.

For starters, we had to narrow the playing field, which is packed with options ranging from classic to novel to boutique. In our years of equipment testing, we’ve never come across a novelty tool that works better than the original (classics are classics for a reason), so we skipped them. We also skipped anything over $25—a reasonable price ceiling for a home cook. That ruled out tabletop presses, which not only are expensive (most range from $50 to well over $100) but also take up a lot of space. If you’re going to dedicate that much cash and countertop to a juicer, you might as well buy a good electric one.

From there, we narrowed it down to nine juicers, based on reviews and discussions from sources like Cook’s Illustrated, Amazon, Chowhound, and Williams-Sonoma. We settled on three squeezers, two reamers, and three tabletop juicers, plus, for good measure, a spout that screws directly into the fruit. It borders on a novelty item, but it is also common enough that we thought we’d at least see how it compared.

The Criteria: What To Look for In a Manual Citrus Juicer

In general, a great manual citrus juicer should be able to easily extract juice—and do so far quicker than you could accomplish with just your hands. However, it shouldn’t do so too aggressively, which can pull bitter flavor out of the pith. It should also automatically strain out seeds and pulp.

A good citrus juicer should be easy to clean, too. As sour as citrus juice can be, it always contains some sugar. This can lead to sticky residue (as well as bits of pulp) getting stuck in crevices. Great citrus juicers should have minimal nooks and crannies, which will save you some cleanup time later on.

The Testing

To test these products out, we juiced 10 lemons, 10 limes, and 10 oranges on each (with one exception, for which this proved impossible—we’ll get to that). We also squeezed 10 of each citrus (cut into halves) with our bare hands to provide a baseline for comparison. That’s 300 pieces of fruit total, and about a day and a half spent juicing.

Test 1: Yield

Arguably the most important quality of a juicer is its yield: How much juice can it get out of a single fruit, and how much does it leave behind? To measure this, we weighed each batch of fruit before squeezing, then weighed its extracted juice—strained through a fine-mesh sieve because juice bulked up with more pulp is not the same as more juice—to determine what percentage of the fruit had been turned into juice.

Hand-squeezing yielded 34% of the limes, but only 26% of lemons and 23% of oranges (plus who knows how much all over the counter). Most, but not all, juicers performed better, and were surprisingly consistent across types of fruit, though limes, with their thin skin, tended to give up a bit more juice by weight than lemons or oranges. Still, juice yield will vary with the specific fruit you are using and the season.

We Tested 24 Liquid Measuring Cups to Find the Best Ones

Test 2: Ease of Use

Effort expended is also important. Making orange juice should not be a laborious, time-consuming task. Squeezing a few lemons should not give you carpal tunnel. So, beyond just paying attention to how hard it was to use each tool, we timed how long it took to juice each individual fruit, both with and without the juicers. Most of the juicers helped juice the fruit in about half the time it took to squeeze manually.

Test 3: Flavor

We also conducted a blind taste test of every juice with a panel of five taste-testers. Squeezers tend to squeeze out more of the oils from the skin, while a reamer could potentially dig some bitterness out of the white pith, so we had each taster rank the bitterness, the floral or fragrant quality, and the overall taste of each juice on a scale of 1 to 10, with room for additional comments. To cancel out any effects of palate fatigue, we gave the juices to each taster in a different order.

Other Criteria

Other things considered included how much mess the juicer made. How much juice ended up on the counter (or squirted farther afield)? How much ended up on our hands? How hard was it to aim for the narrow opening of a glass? How easy was the juicer to clean? And then, there’s price. Was a $23 hinged squeezer really worth $14 more than the cheapest squeezer? What about the $22 plastic-and-steel reamer versus the $6 wooden reamer?

The Best Juicer for Lemons and Limes: Chef’n FreshForce Citrus Juicer

Buy on Amazon

What we liked: If flavor and speed are what you’re after, a squeezer is a great choice, and the Chef’n FreshForce Citrus Juicer was easily the best of the three we tried. Squeezers are great because they can juice a citrus half in one swift movement—no grinding back and forth, no juice on your hands—plus they extract more citrus oil from the peels, for more fragrant juice.

It took under 30 seconds to squeeze each lemon or lime with the Chef’n squeezer. (Oranges were a different story, but we’ll get to that.) Plus, with just a small cluster of drainage holes at the center of the cup, the squeezer had great aim, and it could easily direct juice right into the mouth of even a narrow glass. It also produced minimal pulp and seeds.

There are a few pitfalls to the standard squeezer that the Chef’n manages to improve upon. For one thing, squeezers aren’t always as easy or comfortable to use as they seem. They work by essentially turning the citrus half inside out while also pressing it flat. (This can throw off the first-time user, since the fruit is meant to go in cut side down, but looks like it would fit perfectly in the cup the other way around. ) With a tough lime or a thick-skinned lemon, that can take a lot of force. But the toothed hinge mechanism of the Chef’n squeezer gives you more leverage than the simple hinges on standard squeezers. As a result, the Chef’n feels noticeably smoother and easier to squeeze. The rough, sturdy nylon handles are also comfortable and slip-free.

We quickly got frustrated with the slippery interior of some squeezers. Lemons, especially, kept slipping sideways as soon as any pressure was put on them, making them harder to squeeze and yielding less juice. The interior of the cup on the Chef’n squeezer is not only rough but also lined with concentric ridges, making it much more difficult for fruit to slip out of place. Those ridges also help keep stray squirts of juice from shooting out of the top of the cup, a common problem with other squeezers.

Because it doesn’t dig out all the pulp, the squeezer can look like it’s not getting as much juice as a reamer would. But, from what we measured, the yields were mostly the same as those from the reamer-style juicers, at least post-straining. The Chef’n squeezer yielded 38% of both the limes and the oranges by weight and 32% of the lemons.

What we didn’t like: All squeezers will press more oils from the skin of the fruit than a reamer will, and the Chef’n is no exception. Testers gave its juice high marks for fragrance and flavor overall, especially for limes and lemons. The added oil gave the juice a bright, clean, true lime or lemon taste, but was less appealing in the orange juice, which came out tasting kind of soapy. So, if a shot of lemon or lime flavor is usually all you’re after, the Chef’n squeezer is probably a great choice, but it’s probably not so great if you mostly want to make orange juice.

As a side note, if you want to squeeze oranges with a hinged squeezer, be sure to buy the large, orange-sized variety instead of one of the medium, lemon-sized ones we tested. To fit an orange into those at all, we had to cut it into eighths, and the process of squeezing each individually was even slower than squeezing by hand—we averaged between a minute and 30 seconds to a full two minutes per fruit with each of the three squeezers we tested. A larger-size squeezer should work well enough for smaller fruits, so it’s the better all-purpose choice, but just keep in mind that the large Chef’n squeezer costs over $30.

The Best Handheld Citrus Reamer: OXO Good Grips Wooden Reamer

Buy on Amazon

What we liked: Next to the top choices listed above, handheld reamers are much simpler tools. That has some advantages. A handheld reamer takes up the least space of any juicer, and it is easy to stow in a drawer or utensil jar. It also has no moving parts to break and no extra pieces to clean. And a reamer can be quite efficient: The wooden OXO reamer we tested yielded at least a third of the weight of each fruit in juice.

What we didn’t like: A reamer is also just about as messy as squeezing fruit by hand. Juice inevitably runs down your wrist, and the fruit quickly gets slippery and hard to grip. Plus, all the seeds and pulp go right into the juice unless you use it over a sieve (or filter everything through a sieve after), so the reamer isn’t as minimalist as it seems. It really just requires you to have other kitchen tools.

We like a simple wooden reamer for occasional use because it’s affordable (the one we tested costs $6), and the wood provides a good non-slip grip. But the wood will wear out with regular use, and once the ridges of the reamer get dull, it’s not good for much. So, if you do want a handheld reamer but anticipate using it more than just once in a while, pay a little more for a metal or hard plastic version, which will last much longer. Look for one that has a grip of some sort on the handle, with a teardrop-shaped body and good, deep ridges to squeeze out all that juice.

As for that screw-in spout we tested, we don’t recommend it. It worked pretty well for juicing limes, but the act of palpating the fruit to release the juice inside also pulled out a lot of bitterness from the pith. Halfway through squeezing a lemon, the spout would come loose, so as much juice poured out around the base of the spout as came through it. And when we got to oranges, the skin was so thick and the fruit so big that squeezing just split the whole fruit in half before much juice came out.

The Best Juicer for Orange Juice: OXO Good Grips Citrus Juicer

Buy on Amazon

Note: The model we tested is no longer in stock and appears to be discontinued. We’ll plan to update this testing, but, for now, the link above is to a similarly designed (and priced) model, also from OXO.

What we liked: OXO’s Double-Sided Citrus Juicer was a great performer overall, and, at $16, it’s right in the middle of the juicer price range.

First of all, it has a great design: A wide lip made it easy to hold on to, while a large base ensured it didn’t slip on the counter. The double-sided reamer isn’t a gimmick; the larger end really did work better for large orange halves (ours were about 3.5 inches in diameter) than smaller juicers or either of the handheld reamers, which forced us to work the orange halves back and forth as well as in circles to get all the juice. The difference was a matter of at least 10 seconds in each case: It took an average of 35 seconds to juice a whole orange on the OXO, while it took upwards of 45 seconds to juice one on other models.

The ridges on the OXO reamer are also nice and sharp, releasing juice easily, which no doubt helped with the speed. They didn’t necessarily increase yield, but the OXO did produce at least as much juice as any other reamer, which was about as much juice as any tool overall. The OXO also required less pressure to use than the other countertop juicers we tested.

One feature that really stood out: Instead of having a solid reamer surrounded by a perforated moat for the juice to drip through (the standard design), the OXO juicer has an open, cage-like shape, so even the surface underneath it works as a sieve. Any juicer will clog up with pulp at some point, but the OXO could handle two, three, or occasionally four pieces of fruit before having to be cleared—at least double what other reamers could handle. It was also quite easy to pop the reamer attachment right out of the OXO and dump the pulp out. The downside was that, because the reamer is separate from the inward-sloping lid, some pulp tended to fall off the edges of the reamer and into the juice—but nothing that a quick pour through a strainer can’t fix.

The cup on the OXO holds about 300 milliliters of liquid, or about 1 1/3 cups, and has measurements marked in both ounces and milliliters on the sides, up to 8 ounces or 250 milliliters. With the fruit we were using, it worked out to hold the juice from about eight limes, five lemons, or two oranges. That’s not as big as some other models, but it’s big enough to do the trick for most occasions. While we liked the measurements on it, it would be nice if one of them were cups, given that that’s the American standard.

If you have your heart set on cup measurements, you might want to try the RSVP Juicer, which fits over a standard two-cup liquid measuring cup (like a Pyrex), with a silicone-lined edge to keep it from slipping around. It also fits perfectly over a round plastic pint or quart container, but, unfortunately, not much else. You can’t, for example, use it to juice directly into a glass or cocktail shaker, which is something you’d want from any juicer that comes without a cup of its own.

What we didn’t like: There are some downsides to the OXO: The rather large holes in its sieve let some pulp and the occasional seed through. It has three separate pieces to clean instead of one. And the sharp ridges of the reamer seem to extract more bitterness from the pith, especially when with lemons. A number of taste-testers ranked the OXO lemon juice among the bitterest (somewhere between an 8 and a 10, 10 being the most bitter). This was less of a problem with the orange juice, and we found that the reamer crushed the pulp more thoroughly than others, so the juice, even after straining, had a more full-bodied flavor.

FAQs

What’s the difference between a citrus juicer and a juicer?

Whole citrus can’t be juiced the way other fruits (such as apples, pears, and grapes) are. That’s because of the bitter flavor located in the white flesh, or pith, of citrus. Citrus juicers are specially designed to extract juice from the flesh only, leaving the skin and pith behind. However, a juicer will cut or crush the whole fruit or vegetable and straining out the pulp and juice.

Are citrus juicers dishwasher-safe?

Some citrus juicers are dishwasher-safe, and some are not. As a general rule of thumb, wood and wooden items (like many citrus reamers) should never go in the dishwasher. However, one of our favorite juicers, from Chef’n, is dishwasher-safe. We always suggest checking the manufacturer’s care instructions to be sure prior to cleaning anything in the dishwasher.

Is an electric citrus juicer worth it?

Deciding whether to invest in an electric citrus juicer is a matter of personal preference and comes down to the frequency you expect to find yourself juicing. If you like to have fresh orange juice every morning, an electric citrus juicer could save you tons of time and energy. On the flip side, if you only find yourself juicing the occasional lemon or lime, manual citrus juicers are much cheaper and easier to store.

How to choose a juicer

Is it better to choose an electric or manual juicer for the home?

Depends on how much juice you need. In order to squeeze a little orange juice for breakfast or lemon juice for cocktails, manual juice is enough. If your needs are higher, we still recommend choosing electric models, even if they are more expensive. Electric juicers are able to squeeze not only faster, but also better than manual counterparts. Therefore, only they are suitable for blanks.

Which juicer is better: screw or centrifugal

If you are looking for the best juicer for vegetables, fruits and berries, choose from auger models. They retain more of the useful properties of the products, and are quieter. But at the same time, the pulp is passed through, so if you need a clean fresh juice, you should pay attention to the auger juicer.

Which is the best juicer for apples

The choice depends on your preferences and the amount of juice you drink daily. There are twin screw juicers that produce twice the juice in one cycle. But at the same time, do not forget about the pulp that gets into the drink. Centrifugal is cheaper, but it filters better, although it works more noisily.

Best Juicers 2021

15-20 years ago juicers in the country became fashionable again. They were also in the USSR, due to the special love of residents for the conservation of garden products. But in 2022, automatic juicers are back in trend. It is explained by the new fashion for the consumption of raw foods. Garlyn J-600 MAX

The leader of the rating was the auger-type juicer – Garlyn J-600 Max. This juicer can rightly be called universal. Additional attachments for shredding and grater, as well as a filter for making sorbet, provide it with 3-in-1 functionality: juicer + vegetable cutter + sorbet box.

In addition to the complete set, the juicer boasts a set of 8 work programs designed for squeezing juice from fruits of different consistency, preparing sorbet, chopping vegetables. An optimally selected speed allows you to get a larger amount of finished juice at the exit.

All auto programs operate at low speeds (no more than 55 rpm), which means that you don’t have to worry about the safety of vitamins and microelements, since “cold” pressing does not cause oxidation of vegetables and fruits, preserving their useful composition.

Wide opening (75 mm) allows you to load some fruits and vegetables whole. Saving time is a significant plus, especially when it comes to processing a large crop.

Panasonic MJ-M171

The device is not a classic shape for a juicer, it is square, but at the same time compact, so you can hide it somewhere in the bottom drawers in the kitchen. It is not the screws that are responsible for spinning, but the centrifugal mechanism. And the main detail here is branded. Although often manufacturers buy components for their devices somewhere. There is no need to stop the device to add ingredients.

Included is a scraper that can safely push small ingredients towards the knives. There is a thermostat, which, in case of too much load, will cut off the device. In general, this model has been produced for more than 10 years, but it has not lost its relevance and is being sold with might and main in 2022. It comes with a glass blender jug. It is small, so you should not expect miracles of grinding from it. But whipping up a milkshake or smoothie is quite possible.

Bosch MES4010. Photo: yandex.market. ru

This model uses ceramic knives: they are not so common in juicer designs. Their attitude is different. Someone says that they chop worse – for some reason carrots are especially bad. Others praise the durability and lack of heat, which should have a positive effect on the quality of the resulting product. The device has three speeds, a wide loading opening to throw large pieces. One and a half liter juice container. A foam separator is built into it.

The appliance is primarily focused on juicing or large portions. Because of this, the quality of the spin slightly suffers. But if you need to process a lot of fruits, then the losses will be small. The juicer is disassembled gradually like a nesting doll. The pieces are large and easy to clean. The noise level is normal – not silent, but without a frankly pronounced rumble. There are rubber tips on the bottom to avoid slipping on the surface.

Features:

Juice glass included. There is a juice foam cutter. Loading of the whole fruits is possible.

The equipment is praised: there is a glass and a brush for cleaning. A wide neck, which includes about one apple – of course, not a whole one, but chopped into three or four parts. Those who constantly keep the juicer on the table in the alert mode share a life hack: in order not to completely disassemble, you can skip a couple of glasses of water in the operating mode and then just rinse the jug. Some complain about the quality of components. With plastic, everything is fine: durable and does not smell. But for the first time, rubber elements have a specific amber. But it goes away after a few washes.

Judging by the reviews, often come across defective models Photo: yandex.market.ru

A premium product that is constantly being improved by the manufacturer. This is the fourth model, the most relevant for 2022. Improvements have led to the fact that it works almost silently, it is easy to disassemble, although it looks reliable. To get started, just install the top jug on the mechanism and you can start working. After that, it is removed, and two filter grilles are waiting inside, which are washed without problems with running water.

There is a juice outlet valve. That is, immediately after spinning, it does not pour out, but remains inside. Substitute a glass, turn the mechanism, and it is assembled as if from a cooler. We are not sure that this is such a necessary attribute, for which it is worth overpaying. The kit comes with three filter grilles. Before starting work, you need to install the desired one. One does not let the pulp through at all – it is suitable for juices. The second allows you to make puree smoothies. The third is almost sealed. It is needed to grind frozen fruits and berries and get ice cream.

Tribest Slowstar SW-2000. Photo: yandex.market.ru

They started selling the device a couple of years ago and not only in Russia. The design uses a two-turn auger. It allows you to cut off two pieces of the product at once with each revolution. Therefore, the rotation speed can be reduced, and therefore made less noisy. It has no effect on spin speed. The diameter of the opening for loading products is more than six centimeters – this is a good indicator compared to competitors, which, as a rule, are inferior to 2-2.5 cm. There are nozzles for different consistency of the product – liquid juice or with pulp. You can install such a grinder that the products will simply be mashed. Also suitable for nuts to make pastes. This juicer can work for about half an hour. After that, you need to let the device rest. This is generally an average. Although she presses the juice quite quickly, so much so that a complete glass is often not enough if you have the task of doing it for the future. Complain about the difficulty of parsing and washing.

7. REDMOND RJ-M908

REDMOND RJ-M908. Photo: yandex.market.ru

Powerful juicer with centrifugal mechanism equipped with titanium blades inside. A wide opening for raw materials – almost 8.5 cm. You can throw without cutting. Made of stainless steel, but weighs an adequate four kilos. It cannot be called a compact device. It starts smoothly, and not immediately at full strength. This is the best option for long-term operation of the device. There are five speeds and a small display. In case of incorrect assembly, the device will simply refuse to work. A separate mechanism is responsible for shutting down in case of critical overheating. For hard foods like nuts or root vegetables, there is a pulse mode. Roughly speaking, the knives start jerkily and over time grind the products. Among the shortcomings, a long washing process is noted: assembly and thorough washing of each part takes time.

Products may not be finely chopped

Dimensions

Photo: yandex.market.ru

Against the background of foreign analogues, this juicer looks and is called comical. But we put it in the ranking of the best for a reason. The device is really popular with the people, where it is sold and in demand in many places. First of all, note the performance. You can throw whole apples of medium size. Further duration of work. It buzzes for an hour without breathing and nothing terrible happens. Please note that this device is not for throwing a couple of fruits in the morning with a light hand and making a glass of fresh juice. One should prepare oneself for solid work and for slight confusion. Maybe its efficiency is not so high, but the performance does not suffer. This is a juicer for people with their own gardens and cottages who do not know what to do with the apple harvest. The device is very buzzing, noisy and strives to run away, so a pleasant feeling of fatigue after work is guaranteed.

Not a new device that the manufacturer no longer even advertises on the official website. But very popular, so the warehouses of hardware stores in 2022 are clogged with it. This is largely due to the super-democratic price. However, all the disadvantages of budget models are in place. She is noisy and nimble – you need to keep it right. In addition, it vibrates so that it pushes a standard glass away from itself. And because of the short spout, everything spills. Therefore, either a second person is needed, or think about another capacity. Also, it gets very hot. But she does not lose her place in the ranking of the best juicers from this. Firstly, thanks to a simple design that allows for quick assembly and disassembly, as well as easy washing. Secondly, she really presses the juice with high quality. The cake comes out barely damp. So the losses are not that high.

INNBERG XL . Photo: yandex.market.ru

Please note that for 2022 there is a second version of this device – marked version II. We are talking about him. The first model can still be found, but it costs the same. And this juicer is still better worked out. It works on slow spin technology. It is considered more thorough – the cake at the exit is drier, more juice. In addition, the product does not oxidize from heating. This is especially true for apple juice. There is a reverse button to scroll in the opposite direction – this helps when the cake, instead of falling into a separate channel, gets stuck in the mechanism and interferes with correct operation. The size of the feed funnel can be increased or decreased depending on the size of the fruit. Maximum diameter – 7.5 cm.

Another interesting feature is the mixing of juices inside the device. Let’s say you wanted to put together a cocktail of several ingredients. Due to the different density, mixing in a glass is not always convenient. Here you can mix inside the device and get your own multi-cocktail at the exit.

Features:

Juice glass included. There is an automatic pulp ejection. Whole fruits can be loaded.

Type Vertical auger juicer, single auger Alexander Pyanik-Bozhenko .

How it works

Three types are available in stores: centrifugal, auger and citrus. The scope of the latter is clear from the name. Nothing but them to squeeze will not work. If we talk about the first two, our expert recommends augers, explaining that it squeezes out better and retains more trace elements.

Parameters

We are used to the fact that in household appliances the steepness is measured in numbers. Especially the power setting. But when choosing a juicer, you can not look at this indicator at all. This does not affect the quality of the pomace; the mechanism must be effective. Yes, and it does not increase the speed of work. On the contrary, everyone boasts of a small number of revolutions: this way the spinning process is more thorough.

Do not abuse juices

It has been proven that in large quantities they cause type 2 diabetes. Some experts on proper nutrition even advise to abandon them, but this is a debatable issue.

– I recommend drinking freshly squeezed juice in the morning on an empty stomach, or after physical exertion, for example, at fitness. The drink restores energy. It also contains fiber, which prevents sugar from being quickly absorbed and absorbs toxins. It is not worth preserving the product – it oxidizes. The benefit is only fresh, – explains Alexander Pyanik-Bozhenko.

Do not throw away all the pulp

After pressing the juice, there is a significant amount of processed residue. Alexander recommends returning a couple of spoons back to the cocktail and drinking together, since beneficial trace elements remain in the solid.

Do not be afraid to experiment

In everyday life, a juicer is often used only for apple juice. Occasionally they resort to exotic fruits or tomatoes. Our expert recommends unusual cocktail examples. For example, experiment with needles: mix lemon, apple, coniferous branches and dilute with water. Or how do you like a cocktail of spruce needles and a banana? And here is the taiga mix: lemon, cranberry, blueberry, lingonberry, sea buckthorn, viburnum and needles – everything is possible. It turns out interesting if you mix needles, lemon and pineapple. Vegetable smoothies are also helpful. Before going to bed or even instead of dinner, Alexander advises making a pomace of beets, broccoli, half a lemon and a couple of cloves of garlic. You can salt to taste.

2022 rating for price and quality

Citrus juice is considered a tasty and healthy vitamin drink. But freshly squeezed juice is considered the best.

The juicer for this type of fruit has a special design that allows you to get a drink with minimal effort.

All you have to do is slide a sliced citrus half over the cone and twist a few times.
