5 Apps to Redecorate Your Home with Your Phone

Home Decor

Whether you’re looking to give your living room a quick refresh or want to completely revamp your home, these five apps can help you get started. Create a stunning look without blowing your budget — no professional interior designer needed.

With dozens of decorating apps to choose from and inspiration just a finger touch away, redecorating your home has never been easier. Augmented Reality (AR) now lets you use your phone to see how colors, accessories, and furniture will look in your own house. On the horizon, you can expect to see apps using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to learn your style through your interaction with them.

Whether you’re looking to give your living room a quick refresh or want to completely revamp your home, these five apps can help you get started. Create a stunning look without blowing your budget — no professional interior designer needed.

Houzz: Start with online inspiration

Apps like Pinterest and Instagram have plenty of pictures and designs to start your inspiration journey. However, it’s easy to get overwhelmed, and keeping track of design ideas can be cumbersome.  It’s not always simple to buy an item featured in a picture, and you might need to search around to find a similar item. A site like Houzz can help you keep everything organized and in one place.

Houzz covers architecture, interior design, decorating, landscape design, and home improvement. It has over 17 million high-resolution photos, all of which can be filtered by room, style, budget, size, color, or a combination.

Many of the pictures have purchasing information on the featured items, allowing you to purchase them within the Houzz app.   You can also save pictures to an “Ideabook” to help keep your style ideas all in one place.

The app uses AR to help you see what an item will look like in your home. Click the “View in my room” button to see the item in 2D using your phone’s camera.

The Houzz app is free on iOS and Android.

MagicPlan: Create a floor plan from your phone

To ensure that the furniture you plan to purchase fits in the room you’d like to decorate, it helps to create a floor plan.  The MagicPlan app lets you input the dimensions of a room by measuring, drawing, or using your phone’s camera to create the floor plan.

Once you’ve added your room’s dimensions, you can add doors, windows, structural features, plumbing, appliances, electrical, HVAC, furniture, flooring, and more to your floor plan.  Many of these features are free to use, but there is an in-app cost for things like cabinetry, light switches, and outlets.

When you add MagicPlan’s 2D furniture, you can adjust it to the size you want by using your fingers or inputting the dimensions.   You can add your own photos to your floor plan, as well.

If you are planning to paint or replace the flooring, estimate how much it would cost by clicking “Estimate” for the approximate price. Just remember the estimates do not include the cost of labor.

MagicPlan is free on iOS and Android.

TapPainter: Virtually paint your walls

Swatches from your local home improvement store make it hard to envision the color of the whole room, and buying paint samples can get expensive. The TapPainter app lets you choose paint colors from Benjamin Moore, Behr, Sherwin Williams, and other popular brands.

Use the app to snap pictures of the room you want to paint and try out different colors by entering the code from a paint swatch, choosing a color from one of the brands included, or mixing your own custom color.  You can even add different colors to different walls.

TapPainter is free on iOS.

DécorMatters: Design a room using AR

DecorMatters is an app that lets you virtually add pieces and design elements to a real room.   Take a picture of the room you want to decorate and use AR and the AR ruler to add and measure 3D pieces. This is a simple way to see if a piece you’ve been eyeing will fit.

The app features items from popular stores like Crate & Barrel, Target, Overstock, West Elm, IKEA, and Ashley, and you can make in-app purchases right from your phone. You can save your ideas to your mood board to share with friends, and the DecorMatters in-app messaging also offers free feedback and suggestions from real DecorMatters interior designers.

DecorMatters is free on iOS.

Art.com: Add some art to your walls

Finally, the Art.com app offers hundreds of frame styles and sizes to help you plan your gallery wall. Use the app to arrange different layouts to see how your gallery wall could look.

Art.com’s latest app release also lets you upload your own artwork and family pictures to pair with any style frame, and you can even have them printed on canvas, wood mount, acrylic, and more.

The Art.com app is free on iOS and Android.

It’s easy to create a stunning look that suits your style, all from your phone. These five apps offer the inspiration, confidence, and guidance you need to get started on your redecorating project.

Design talent..

As much as I enjoy playing this game, and I do, because I love home decor and design and I have a true eye for both, I am disappointed in the scoring that is going on. I feel that mostly I play it just to have my own portfolio of creative and beautiful rooms. This is very rewarding for me that’s why I am giving the game four stars. The furniture and architecture that you use is top of the line. However I do believe we should earn more than 500 diamonds a day if you’re wanting us to use diverse artwork . If some changes are not made, I may have to put this game down because like some of the other reviewer‘s have state, you have to spend way too much money to achieve some of the looks that would be truly beautiful and to win 5 stars it seems you must use more new artwork (meaning you have to spend money) with a result of a poor design in which I would never want to live. Some of the atrocious designs that get five points over a beautiful design that I have created which only gets 3.6 are suspect. Truly. To the designers of this app take a peek you’ll see what I mean. I’m a pretty intelligent, capable and creative designer, but that isn’t what’s really being rewarded here. If you were to change some of these aspects I may consider continuing with your design application, otherwise I may stop wasting my energy trying to achieve something that isn’t actually a better design.

Amazing – I’m addicted!

Update: so I’m a few days in playing everyday and like others have said, I’m at a stand still because I’m low on money. When you do a design challenge you get cash, but then you have to turn right around and spend that cash in order to do another design challenge Bc it has certain requirements you have to meet. There are very few challenges where there are no requirements. I also do not like the fact that you have to keep repurchasing items after 5 uses. Voting also is by other users, so most people are probably just voting for what they personally like and not viewing the design and making sure it matches the description/requirements. It’s still a fun and relaxing game, when you’re able to play it.

I downloaded another design game but you had to play mini games in order to collect enough money to design. This game is all about designing, no “other” games to play in order to design. I’m only a level 3 designer right now since I just downloaded, but at level 4 more things unlock. I absolutely love getting to design a room and then you submit it to have it rated/scored by others. I think it’s from other players? You also have a gallery of all the designs you did so you can look back at them if you want, which I thought was cool. You do have to choose wisely about purchases or you will run low on money. I’m not sure how you gain money again yet, maybe by completing challenges and getting good scores. Anyway, I’m only on day 2 of playing and I LOVE IT!

Slow and expensive!

I was hooked on this game at first but there is so much room for improvement! First off the constant issues with loading the game, rooms, product, etc. is extremely frustrating. Constant reboot whether you’re on top of the line wifi connection or mobile service. Second, every item you get whether you buy it or earn it as a price has a limit of 5 uses, if you exhaust all 5 you have to purchase the item again. For example, a dining room might call for 6 chairs but you only have access to 5 chairs, so in order to meet the requirements for the room you basically have to purchase the same chair twice to have enough. There shouldn’t be a limit of 5 once you purchase an item. Finally, the algorithm of voting does not make sense. It seems the more rooms you submit the lower your overall score. Each room submitted gets put up for voting & it’s based on 5 stars, if you get more than 4 (4.01 for example) you earn a piece of furniture. But if you get less than 4 (3.99) you don’t earn the piece of furniture. The voting is based on two rooms at a time, and sometimes two rooms don’t even compare to the effort put in. So a slightly less decorated room will lose to the advantage of another more decorated room, however the more decorated room might not be worth a 5 star rating but earned 5 stars simply because it was running against a less decorated room, not so much because of the attractiveness of the room.

Hi MGarcia999! We’re sorry that you’ve had a bad experience! Making sure our users get value back from the game is a top priority for us. Please contact us at [email protected] to help us understand how we can deliver this for you. We’d also be happy to look into any game issues you’ve experienced. We look forward to hearing from you!

“Whether you are moving, flipping, or building a new home, deciding what your house is going to look like and where to place the furniture is a significant source of stress. We are a military family so we move more than the average person. My wife and I work really well together but inevitably we will disagree on the reality of living in three dimensions. This app is wonderful. You can visually create to exact detail what 1000 words/opinions could never accomplish. Even better you can create many options to compare ideas. Home Decor Ideas: 11 Easy DIY Tips From the Pros

Professional home stagers know how to play up your house’s strengths, hide its flaws, and make it appealing to just about everyone. We talked to several pros across the country to get their tips for freshening up the rooms in your home without breaking your budget.

1. Set The Tone at The Front Door

Alamy

If you want your house to make a great first impression, paint the front door a fun, glossy hue. “Red is a lucky color in many cultures,” says Lara Allen-Brett, a New Jersey-based stager. A red door meant “welcome” to weary travelers in early America, and on churches it represents a safe haven.

Two other hues gaining favor: orange and yellow, according to San Francisco-based stager Christopher Breining. Both colors are associated with joy and warmth. One thing that should go: an outdated screen door. Get rid of it or replace it with a storm door with full-length glass that you can switch out for a screened panel.

2. Paint Wall Colors Light and Neutral

Bruce Buck

Stick to colors like beige or gray, especially on the first floor, where flow is important. “You want to minimize jarring transitions,” says Breining. Neutral walls give you the greatest decorating flexibility, allowing you to easily switch up your accessories.

And if you have two small rooms next to each other, painting them the same neutral color helps them feel larger. Look at a paint strip and move up or down a shade or two for a subtle variation from room to room, suggests Allen-Brett.

3. Living Area: Make Sure Your Sofa Talks to Your Chairs

Arthur Mount

Think of a nice hotel lobby: The furniture is arranged in groupings that invite conversation. When you place the furniture in your living room, aim for a similar sense of balance and intimacy.

“A conversation area that has a U-shape, with a sofa and two chairs facing each other at each end of the coffee table, or an H-shape, with a sofa directly across from two chairs and a coffee table in the middle, is ideal,” says Michelle Lynne, a Dallas-based stager.

One common mistake to avoid: Pushing all the furniture against the walls. “People do that because they think it will make their room look bigger, but in reality, floating the furniture away from the walls makes the room feel larger,” she says.

4. Let The Sun Shine In Your Kitchen

iStock

“When it comes to heavy, outdated drapes, a naked bank of windows is better than an ugly one,” says Lynne. Ideally, window dressings should be functional and elegant: Think sheers paired with full-length panels.

If your room gets a lot of sun, opt for light colors that won’t fade. The most recommended lightweight fabrics for panels are cotton, linen, and silk blends because they tend to hang well.

5. Hang at Least One Mirror in Every Room

iStock

“Mirrors can make a space feel brighter because they bounce the light around the room,” says Breining. But placing one in the wrong spot can be almost as bad as not having one at all.

Put mirrors on walls perpendicular to windows, not directly across from them. Hanging a mirror directly opposite a window can actually bounce the light right back out the window.

6. Scale Artwork to Your Wall

“There are few things more ridiculous-looking than hanging dinky little art too high on the wall,” says Breining. The middle of a picture should hang at eye level. If one person is short and the other tall, average their heights.

Also take scale into account; for a large wall, go big with one oversize piece or group smaller pieces gallery-style. For the latter, don’t space the pictures too far apart; 2 to 4 inches between items usually looks best.

7. Layer Your Lighting

iStock

Every room should have three kinds of lighting: ambient, which provides overall illumination and often comes from ceiling fixtures; task, which is often found over a kitchen island or a reading nook; and accent, which is more decorative, highlighting, say, artwork.

For a living room, you should have at least 3 watts (42 lumens) per square foot. One visual trick Breining swears by: using uplights. “Placing a canister uplight or a torchiere in the corner will cast a glow on the ceiling, making a room seem bigger,” he says.

8. Anchor Rugs Under Furniture Feet

iStock

Follow these basic rules for an area rug: “In a living room, all four legs of the sofa and chairs in a furniture grouping should fit on it; the rug should define the seating area,” says Breining. “At the very least, the front two legs of the sofa and chairs should rest on it,” he adds.

Even living rooms with less than generous proportions usually require an 8-by-10-foot or a 9-by-12-foot rug to properly accommodate a seating area. Go too small with the rug size and everything looks out of scale.

9. Call in a Pro to Declutter

Alamy

The longer you live in a house, the less you see the mess over time. Sometimes you need a fresh pair of eyes. You can hire an organizer for a few hours (expect to pay $35 to $150 an hour, depending on where you live) to tackle bookshelves and closets, which stagers say are often packed with twice the amount of stuff they should hold.

Breining suggests whittling down what’s on your shelves by 50 percent. Then mix horizontal stacks of books among the vertical rows and intersperse decorative objects, such as bowls or vases, among them.

10. Use Visual Tricks to Raise The Ceiling

Alamy

If your ceilings are on the low side, paint them white to make the room feel less claustrophobic. Hang curtains higher than the windows, suggests Allen-Brett, to trick your eye into thinking the room is taller. Most standard curtain panels measure 84 or 96 inches, allowing you to go about 3 inches above the window casing before the length gets too short.

If you want to hang them higher, you’ll have to order custom drapes. Love patterned panels? Try vertical stripes; the lines visually elongate your walls. Leaning a large mirror against a wall can also make a room seem taller.

11. Give Old Finishes The Cinderella Treatment

Casey Dunn

Got dated fixtures? Reinvent them with spray paint and inexpensive refinishing kits. “A 1980s brass chandelier can get a new lease on life with a quick coat of hammered-bronze or satin-nickel spray paint,” says Breining.

Even outdated kitchen cabinets benefit from a few coats of white paint and new hardware. And if you thought there was no hope for Formica countertops, think again. Breining swears by Rust-Oleum Countertop Transformations, a DIY counter-coating product that mimics stone, making even the ugliest 1970s counter look fresh.

What’s left to do: Swap out cracked and mismatched switch plates and outlet covers for updated matching ones. Says Lynne: “Nothing drags down a refreshed space like a dingy, almond-colored switch plate.

Maison&Objet 2021: Home Decor Trends

Due to the pandemic, the January session of Maison & Objet 2021 is online: lectures and panel discussions will run for 8 consecutive weeks. Every week we are waiting for a new “digital conversation”. In the first lecture on January 3rd, François Delclos, director of Un nouvelle Air and trend hunter, talked about fashion decor and trends to follow.

1. Optimistic kitsch
To neutralize the gloomy mood of the past year, experienced between epidemics and self-isolation, perky and fantastic details of colorful “aesthetic neo-kitsch” come into the interiors, bringing more joy to the house. “We just need a sense of humor and cheerfulness right now. We are not going to repaint the rooms in pink from floor to ceiling, but we can allow small details – quirky and fun objects (even if they sometimes go against the notion of good taste),” explains Francois Delclos.

The trend’s palette is very colorful, using fresh tones and more aggressive hues that are typical of folk-style pieces, such as this rug in the photo.

Ouvrage

The need for humor and positive attitude is already visible in interiors. The photo shows the work of French designers from Ouvrage. Pay attention to the gilded lamp-balls, which the owners of the apartment and their friends jokingly call “nipples”.

Because of the history of the pandemic, the house is perceived as a protective cocoon, a place of refuge, a place of peace and security. Organic, enveloping, rounded soft shapes come to help in creating a comfortable interior! According to François Delclos, “the return of eco-textiles, interest in local techniques and crafts, for example, weaving from natural wool (like alpaca for the My Alpaca brand)” is noticeable.

Natural materials such as sandstone or unfinished ceramics are popular. The example from the photo is a series of rounded shell vases created by Brazilian craftsmen and Somos design.

As for the palette, these are natural colors of nature, shades of earth and terracotta.

In the new projects on Houzz, the desire of designers to immerse a person in a comfortable environment with organic shapes and warm textures is also noticeable. For the agence Ppil project (pictured), designers Sebastian Demonom and Hortense Reynaud chose Thierry Lemaire’s wide Koumac armchairs with lambswool upholstery that perfectly reflects this “natural cocoon” trend.

3. Vegetarianism in the interior

Locked up first in the cities, and now within our own homes, we never cease to yearn for nature. So much so that the plants fill the interiors with the luxuriance of foliage and even the extravagance of views or references to the natural world. “Large floral patterns, an abundance of plant materials, a variation of green and a search for fruity aromas: this is a real feast of nature!” says François Delclos.
Compared to the previous couple of years, interest in the world of flora has now shifted towards “abundance, extravagance of plant motifs, their excessive size and decorative fantasies”

Tatiana Nicol

Textiles in shades of green and earth © IB Laursen

Shades of green that have been in demand over the past few years are still present in interiors, such as pine green, moss or olive leaves, as in Scandinavian fabric collection IB Laursen (pictured).

Natural materials such as cane, coconut, rattan or bamboo braid are also valued in interiors. “They show up in small furniture and accessories, preparing us for the summer season,” says Francois Delclos.

DIY home decor

DIY decor is not only a spectacular, but also an easy way to spice up the interior of your home. Even a space that has been furnished by a skilled designer will look standard and boring without decor. On the contrary, to make an original decoration for the home means to bring exclusivity to the atmosphere of the home.

Decorating the interior on your own is a doubly interesting process that will help unite all family members for a common creative activity. Children’s help is also welcome! So, how and what kind of do-it-yourself decor for the home?

WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR DECOR?

You can make almost any kind of home decor yourself with the materials and tools available: photo frames, vases, storage boxes, planters, rugs, cushions and even furniture. We recommend making an original item that will not only be beautiful, but also functional. Analyze what things are needed in your room. Suppose the kitchen needs roomy drawers for dishes, miniature storage systems for spices and household items, a clock.

Do not buy a stamped item from the store: the kitchen will not be prettier or cozier with it. In extreme cases, it can be used as the basis for further needlework. Even an ordinary wall, on which a decorative clock, a framed panel, a stylish lamp are randomly located, will become the interior center of the kitchen and turn a small room into a non-standard space.

As practice shows, making a decor that does not carry at least a minimum functional load is a waste of free time. Such things are soon forced out of the house and replaced by other, more useful ones. For example, in most cases, an empty bottle on a window with an overly narrow neck, decorated with decoupage, will not take root. In the near future, its place in your room will be taken by an ordinary object that can become a full-fledged vase.

If decorating skills are at the beginner level, we recommend working with objects of medium or small sizes. It is better to save things of large sizes for the times when you have enough experience. Most techniques are easier to perform more accurately in small areas.

HOW TO CREATE HOME DECOR WITH YOUR HANDS?

It is possible to make beautiful decorations using several basic techniques. Their thorough development will take no more than a couple of weeks. Then you need to practice a lot, creating decor in the interiors – your own, your friends … For this stage of mastering the intricacies of hand-made, it is better to stock up on material of the middle or low price segments. Use expensive material later, when decor technologies are mastered perfectly. But to create truly high-quality things will only come from the “ingredients” of the appropriate level.

WHICH TECHNIQUES ARE USED TO CREATE HOME DECOR?

Much depends on the type of materials, the correct placement of the decor and its combination with the interior of the entire room. It is impossible for homemade decor to stand out unnecessarily and break harmony. For example, a multi-colored and multi-textured patchwork rug may not fit a high-tech or minimalist interior. But if its shades are well combined with style elements and textures, then such a rug can even become a key center. We list the most common decor techniques that you can do yourself at home:

Creating a complex texture on a uniform surface . For example, the decor of painted walls is carried out by applying a second layer of paint, but in an unusual way. Instead of the usual brush, a foam rubber sponge is used, randomly folded fabric. As a result, the paint is applied unevenly, creating the original texture of the walls. This technology also includes the use of textured pastes. In their original packaging, they have a soft texture, which allows them to be used for modeling. Upon contact with air, the textured paste dries soon.

Decoupage . The method consists in attaching fragments of decorative motifs to walls, furniture, and interior accessories with glue. Their source is special decoupage napkins or cards, photographs, magazine clippings, drawings printed on paper. Motifs fixed with glue are varnished after drying. The varnish provides reliable protection of a surface against moisture, pollution.

Quilling . Allows you to create interesting paper decor for your home with your own hands. Quilling is designed for walls or any parts with a flat surface. Applications are twisted, which are then attached to the desired thing with glue. Butterfly, flower, silhouettes of animals or people – fantasy will tell the plot of a paper picture.

Felting . A small figurine or a decorative element rolls out of the wool, which becomes part of the interior composition. Unusual decor looks cute and pleasantly softens any environment.

Knitting and embroidery . Ordinary fabric after embroidering a pattern on it becomes a real “highlight” of the interior. Decorated textiles are placed in a frame, used as a material for a lamp shade, covers, bed linen. The knitted element also becomes an original decoration of any interior. An important condition: make sure that the knitted or embroidered material is removable. Otherwise, cleaning it will cause serious difficulties.

Patchwork. This technique involves the creation of textiles from numerous small patches of fabrics of different types and shades. Despite its originality, patchwork is very popular with modern designers. Many of them include products made using this technique in interiors of various styles. But it is best combined with country, boho, eclectic, ethnic (Moroccan, Indian, Russian) patchwork. Everyone can master this technique.

Macramé. Woven in knots of dense twisted threads and ribbons, products immediately attract attention and bring coziness to the house. In addition, they are not only exclusively decorative, but also quite functional (planters, curtains, storage systems).

Floristics. Thanks to fresh flowers (freshly cut or indoor) any interior is transformed before our eyes. But compositions from artificial or specially dried plants can look no less advantageous and impressive. Oriental flower arrangements and bonsai look especially elegant and stylish.

Painting . To use this decor method, you need to have minimal artistic skills. For example, it is allowed to paint a lamp with a dot technique, to master which the master will only need accuracy and perseverance. Do-it-yourself painted home decor elements can be decorated with motifs of any degree of complexity. Sometimes a sketchy drawing of a butterfly on the walls can look no less impressive than an intricate pattern.

Thread . This way to make stylish home decor with your own hands is for those who have woodworking skills. For the rest, we recommend that you turn to other techniques for decorating the room. We assure you that a lamp with a simple but high-quality pattern will look better than its counterpart with non-professional carving.

WALLS: DIY HOME DECOR

An apartment or office where the wall space is empty clearly indicates that the interior was decorated by a non-professional. Therefore, decorating the wall space is especially important in creating a non-standard interior. You can make an original decor not only with the help of paint. But in terms of material costs, using this technique is most profitable. Patterns are applied to the walls using a stencil, one or many stripes are drawn, geometric figures of large sizes …

A win-win option is to decorate the walls of the room with original framed photos. Any photos are placed diagonally or in random order. Instead of photographs, the walls in the room can be decorated with abstract paintings, blank frames in a bright color, one or more stickers. We recommend attaching special stickers to the walls, on the back of which there is glue that is safe for the integrity of the finishing materials.

Walls will be decorated with homemade panels. You can make an original small-sized panel on a marine theme from a coarse rope, unusual fabric, several shells and glass pieces brought from a vacation on the sea coast. The background must be covered with white or blue acrylic paint. Then complete the composition with thematic photographs and enclose in a frame. Similarly, you can make a panel on any other topic. Such homemade collages on the wall will become a full-fledged replacement for picturesque paintings or photographs. A living room or office, the wall of which is decorated with a three-dimensional picture, acquires a special atmosphere.

An original decor option is to make a lot of paper butterflies and fix them in any order. To quickly make butterflies, you need to make one stencil that imitates the silhouette of an insect. The rest of the butterflies are cut out along the resulting contour. There are wall stickers of this form on sale.

For an original wall decoration, it is good to use a lot of the same things with paint on the surface. Some objects may be larger than others. Use glue or nails to attach them to the wall. What kind of wall decor can be made with your own hands using the described method? Plates, belts, ropes, wooden cuts of the original texture are suitable for the base . .. As a result, even a room with a modest interior takes on a designer look.

If there are already some decorative elements on the wall – mirrors, lamps or paintings – you can transform them by changing, for example, the finish, painting the frames, adding decorative elements to them. This will quickly refresh the interior without much cost and effort.

YOUR OWN FURNITURE MAKEUP

Make outdated furniture fashionable and make the interior individual without contacting a designer. It is necessary to eliminate old varnish and paint from the furniture surface. Then decorate the furniture with small stickers or decorate with decoupage. Instead of stickers, pieces of fabric can also work. They will be able to emphasize the desired style of the interior and add softness, comfort to the atmosphere.

The metal handles on the drawers can be easily replaced with ropes or straps. If you are not sure of your taste, you need to make the decor of the updated furniture concise. For example, paint in a single color and stick a floral motif or a discreet sticker as a decoration.

In addition to staining and decoupage techniques, furniture can be deliberately aged, giving it an antique chic. To do this, a special patting technique is used and tools such as stain, antique wax, varnish, spatula, degreaser, acrylic paints, etc.

Decorating furniture is a fun and profitable hobby. As a basis for creativity, Soviet-era furniture sets are best suited. They were made of durable solid wood, the quality of which practically does not change over time.

Hand-made furniture will harmoniously fit into country, Provence or classic styles. In order for the results of creativity to leave a pleasant impression, we recommend creating a preliminary sketch on thick cardboard. On it, you can hone your mastery of decorating techniques.

INDEPENDENT DECOR FOR DIFFERENT ROOMS

  • Kitchen decoration . If the set in the kitchen is outdated, then decorate its drawers with decoupage. In the interior of the kitchen, seasonal decor in the form of compositions of dried vegetables, fruits, spices and flowers would be appropriate. Its creation lasts no more than an hour, and such decor will delight with its appearance for at least several months. The kitchen looks good with a lot of unusual dishes, bright flower pots, original boxes for growing greens. Don’t forget about fabrics: a cozy kitchen is impossible to imagine without a tablecloth, furniture covers, towels and oven mitts.

  • Decorating the living room with paintings and art objects is a classic option. But a modern room can be decorated with posters or photos. The living room is suitable for placing floor decor in it, for example, vases, figurines. Unlike the kitchen, non-functional decor can and should be placed here. False fireplace looks great in the living room. Indeed, in an apartment building it will not work to equip a real fireplace with an open fire. Burning wood will replace the candles.

  • The decor of the bedroom is a lot of fabrics and carpets that are pleasant to the touch, unusual lighting fixtures, an original designed headboard. Dust should not accumulate here, so extra decorations are undesirable. Fabric curtains and a soft plaid will make the atmosphere in the bedroom comfortable. You can also make desktop decor in the form of miniature storage systems for jewelry, cosmetics and various small things. All decor should contribute to relaxation and a relaxing holiday. A full-length mirror will not hurt in the bedroom, and decorate the frame for it yourself.

  • Children’s decorations are best created with the direct help of their little owners. Entrust them with drawing pictures, making collages and sculpting polymer clay figurines. It is up to the parents to direct the children’s imagination in the right direction and to help the kids in mastering the decoration techniques. It is necessary to provide a place for children’s wall painting: paint a section of the wall with a composition for school boards or paste over with inexpensive light wallpaper. Put a lot of crayons and pencils nearby. Do not forget about the safety of the decor. Salt dough is also useful, the process of making it in the kitchen takes a couple of minutes. The kid is able to make anything out of it: from an unusual frame to a new toy. Later, the baby will be able to paste over the frame with pasta, shells and even boring little toys. Ordinary cardboard boxes decorated with colored paper, stickers or pieces of fabric can serve as an affordable storage system in a nursery. They can make small shelving for lightweight items.

  • The decor of the bathroom depends on the materials of the original finish. If it is monochromatic ceramics, then it can be enlivened by painting by choosing special waterproof paints for this. As additional paraphernalia, self-decorated curtains, a rug, a bath screen, and towels will fit well into the bathroom. If the room is spacious and bright enough, then it’s great to include a few living plants in it or add artificial compositions.

  • Corridor decoration is mainly focused on wall decoration, cabinet surface and door. To do this, you can use various stickers, paintings, handicrafts. A practical item at the entrance group can be a basket or a vase for umbrellas. Homemade key holders, hooks, door wreaths, etc. look original. carving, painting, bedroom

DIY decor – 90 photos of beautiful and unique home decoration ideas

Sometimes all it takes to freshen up a home interior is to add a few details. It is not necessary to have the education of a designer in order to realize the ideas of the original decor with your own hands. Most often, decorative elements are made from materials that can be found in any home.

So, if you decide to renovate your home, and your financial situation does not allow you to turn to professionals, then start making jewelry with your own hands.

When making, remember everything you were taught at school and get to work. If you can draw, embroider and have a creative potential, then you will certainly succeed.

So how do you make home decor?

    Wall decoration

This area is most often used for art. Here are a few techniques that can be used to decorate walls.

    Painting

The use of gouache, watercolors, acrylic paints is the most affordable and common way to decorate a room at the moment. In addition, this is a wide flight for your fantasy and imagination, which has practically no limits.

You can draw anything you want: paintings, animals, geometric shapes and ornaments. It is only necessary to take into account the overall design of the room so that the painting harmoniously fits into the interior.

If you are bad at drawing, then you can use stencils to implement the idea. The finished template can be either bought or downloaded from the Internet and printed on thick paper.

    Paper decorations

Paper decorations are also a fairly simple way of decoration, but relatively short-lived. This is due to the fact that most often paper products become covered with dust and lose their appearance, and it is not possible to wipe them with a damp cloth, as the paper will get wet.

Paper decorations are a great option for decorating a room for any occasion – a birthday or a wedding. An excellent option for decorating walls would be paper-cut figures of animals, tiles, flowers or butterflies.

You can also make paper balloons, flags and garlands. You can create from ordinary colored paper from cardboard, and from packaging, corrugated and other types of paper.

    Panel

Panel is a universal way of decorating walls. The panel can be made from family photographs, from a variety of shelves and hooks, from stones and shells.

The choice of material for this type of decoration is simply great and varied and can only be limited by your abilities and capabilities. Look at the photo of decorating in the form of a panel with your own hands, and you will see that it is not at all difficult to make it from improvised materials.

    DIY room decor

We have considered several options for decorating the walls, now let’s talk about the decor of the room itself. Go to the pantry and get out all the old and forgotten trash. Let’s create!

    Decoration of old vases

You can also breathe life into old interior items using simple materials. For example, an old vase that has lost its appearance can be pasted over with beautiful paper or cloth. Decorate it with beads, rhinestones and ribbons. When using multi-color materials, think about color combinations so that the decor does not look ridiculous.

    DIY decor from bottles

You can come up with many options for decorative elements from glass objects. For example, you can put colored cones in a bottle with a wide neck and, after corking it, put it on a sideboard. Or attach a few bottles to the wall and put artificial flowers in them.

    Lamp decor

Old table lamps can be decorated with natural elements – twigs, cones, dried flowers and so on.

Such an eco-style will fit into absolutely any interior, even without ecological details. This way of decorating the room will add coziness, home warmth and will please the eye.

    Home letter decor

This is the perfect way to personalize your space. Letters can be placed in any room. You can decorate them with interior doors, walls.

The main body can be cut out of thick cardboard and decorated with flowers, pom-poms, magazine clippings, and so on.

You have already understood that original decor ideas come to mind when you start to create. Walk around your apartment and decide what kind of notes you would like to bring to the interior. Think about your skills and abilities and get down to business. We assure you, the result will amaze you and your household.

How to decorate a window sill in a room: decorating and decorating with your own hands

Decorating with indoor plants – home garden

Flowers in pots on the windowsill will not surprise anyone. This is indeed the best place to place plants because of the natural light there all year round. However, most often we arrange the pots without thinking about the overall composition, thereby creating a kind of chaos.

To turn your home garden into a designer decoration, follow these simple rules:

    • Do not clutter the surface. It is better to put fewer plants, but at the same time choose your favorite ones. Let them get as much attention as possible.

    • Consider window size. Small is suitable for placing neat and low succulents or other undersized flowers. If the window opening is multi-leaf and large enough, then flowers with voluminous and spreading foliage will do.

    • Stick to a single design. The best option is if the pots are the same color and the most similar design. You should not combine pots made in the Provence style with containers in a minimalist or loft style.

When choosing, pay attention to modern flower boxes. They are suitable for placing several plants at once. Get the finished composition.

    • Do not limit yourself to a horizontal surface, because window sill decoration can also be suspended. Such a solution will come in handy when the surface itself is used to store some useful little things: for example, in the kitchen or in the bedroom.

Edible greens are a great alternative to indoor plants. Plant seeds of microgreens, green onions, mint, lemon balm or any other greens in the soil. Get a small home garden.

How to decorate a window sill, besides natural flowers? If you don’t like to mess with them, then opt for realistic artificial plants.

    Books – reading corner

Another interesting way to decorate the windowsill with your own hands is to place books on it. Arrange a few of your favorite volumes in a beautiful and laconic binding on the sides of the window.

In addition, small bookshelves can be used to frame the window. If the window sill is wide enough, then equip a reading corner there. To do this, put a couple of soft pillows, a lamp, a stack of your favorite books. The resting place is ready.

    Glass bottles and vases

Glass is a material that perfectly refracts sunlight, playing and shimmering under the influence of rays. Combine vases or bottles of different shades of green / transparent / blue, place dried flowers or other artificial plants inside. It will turn out an unusual and delicate composition.

Each bottle can be completed with jute wrapping, shells, stones or iridescent mirror film.

    Compositions for decor

You probably noticed that in foreign films window sills are not just a flower garden, but an independent interior element. It can perform both a practical function and a decorative one.

In the first case, the surface is made under the tabletop, on which a laptop, work papers, stationery or TV is placed. It can also be used as a makeup table. This design option is suitable for a bedroom or office. In the second case, this is a kind of exhibition of all kinds of unusual gizmos: interesting figurines, creative vases, posters, magnets brought from travels. Use this idea to decorate your living room window sill.

    Festive decoration

The upcoming holiday (New Year, Halloween, Easter, Birthday, Valentine’s Day, etc.) is an additional opportunity to diversify a bored interior. Build a composition on the windowsill that matches the style of the upcoming event.

If the New Year and Christmas holidays are around the corner, then it’s time to involve children in the creative process and make decor. To do this, you can use any New Year paraphernalia: a battery-powered garland, cones, candles, figurines of deer, Santa Claus, a Christmas wreath made from artificial or live spruce branches.

How can I decorate the window sill in my room for a birthday? Here, too, everything is simple. Buy a special stand (fountain) for balloons, inflate them and secure. Put a twinkling garland, print a couple of photos of the birthday boy, put them in small frames, and don’t forget about candles.

Autumn is also very beautiful and picturesque. Dilute the interior with bright autumn colors: orange, red or yellow hues. 1. Environmentally friendly holiday

Eco design will bring the festive mood closer by dressing the interior with natural decorations. Fruits, nuts and pine cones will add a smart organic touch to the interior.
Dried citrus fruits, apples, pine cones and cinnamon sticks will look great on a Christmas tree. Try decorating vases and flower pots with real berries, fruits, or straw, for example. This New Year’s decor symbolizes unity with nature, so it is ideal for eco-style interiors, adding a piece of nature to your interior.

    2. Minimalist Christmas decor

This decor will suit not only the interior in the style of minimalism, but just those who do not like “extra tinsel”. A minimalistic approach to design will not make your interior less elegant – a holiday with such decor is read in detail. Minimalism in design will emphasize the style of your interior with a suitable festive decoration.
New Year’s decor uses symbols of the holiday without the traditional version of decorations: Christmas trees and snowflakes made from recycled cardboard, wood or just a wire frame. Minimalist décor will maintain the simple, clean lines you value in environments, interiors, and lifestyles.

    3. Classic interior. Proportional decor

An elegant and graceful living room should not be full of Christmas tree decorations and full of outfits. Certain outfits for festive zones and decorative compositions, a corresponding Christmas tree – everything should be thought out and appropriate. If you have a carefully articulated interior design, then the décor should match.
Fine tulle can be used to decorate the Christmas tree, as well as stars, ribbons, traditional Christmas stockings and candles. The interior can be decorated with objects in different colors, the main thing is to choose the right combinations. This decor will give a sense of celebration and magic.

    4. The perfect Scandinavian Christmas decor

Scandinavian New Year’s interior is characterized by extraordinary simplicity and sincerity. The ideal Scandinavian decor is natural minimalism: a combination of restrained colors, simple decorations and wooden decorative elements.
Scandinavian interior is amazing in New Year’s design. It is important to emphasize natural touches, such as spruce branches and wreaths, cones, wooden toys, animal motifs: decorative antlers, deer figurines. Want some color and magic? Add red berries, colorful fabric, Christmas stockings – all this will create a new year in Scandinavian style.

    5. Christmas decor for warm lovers

Unusual and fresh décor with a tropical or nautical touch. New Year’s decor may not be quite familiar, but this will not make it less elegant. This design is suitable for ethnic interiors, for example, in the Mediterranean style.
Decoration with feathers, lemons and oranges will add an exotic touch among pine cones and spruce greens. The color scheme is diverse: blue, coral, orange. An unusual choice of holiday decorations will favorably break the monotony of traditional New Year’s decor.

    6. Country. Cozy decor

To match the style of the interior rustic New Year’s cozy decor, dressed in burlap, natural and warm, is applicable not only for country-style interiors – the attributes of a cozy holiday are appropriate in any setting.
Candles, knitted decor, colorful textiles and decorations made from natural materials will help create such a holiday at home.

    7. Spectacular black and gold. In the spirit of art deco

Be inspired by the elegant Art Deco style. The black and gold scale in the decor will emphasize individuality and add a touch of luxury to your holiday.
A suitable interior for this decor can vary from elegant and classical to expressive and ethnic. The main thing is that the decor should be showy and bright with luxurious combinations.

    8. Chinese style paper decor

Chinese New Year traditions are very interesting and original. Hosting the Chinese New Year at home is optional, but there are a few ideas you can borrow for a decorative theme.
In China, before the New Year, five long strips of paper are hung on the door, symbolizing the “five types of happiness”: good luck, honor, longevity, wealth and joy. This tradition can be easily implemented by decorating the interior with colorful ribbons. You can still make the interior elegant with the help of flowers, garlands and lanterns. Paper decorations will create an unusual festive flavor.

    9. Structural decor

Loft-style rooms, industrial and constructivism have their own approach. Luxury in decorating such interiors will be inappropriate. Geometric shapes, silver, gold and monochrome decor, as well as LED garlands will perfectly fit into the design.

    10. A real holiday. White gold and red

English Christmas style with a traditional fireplace, lush Christmas tree and lots of gifts. It seems that the idea is taken from New Year’s films and fairy tales, where the magic of the holiday and magical mood reign. Gold in the design inspires, snow-white color will add winter comfort, and in combination with red, the interior “screams” about the holiday.
It’s not just the living rooms that deserve attention, you can decorate your bedroom beautifully. Cover the bed with a cozy white blanket with soft pillows, put spruce branches in a vase, light the lights on the garland – the bedroom will take you to a New Year’s fairy tale. This is a great way to give a gift to the child inside of you.

    11. American modern. Tiffany decor

This Christmas decor combines modern details with vintage ribbons and glass toys. The color scheme of the decor is turquoise and its various shades, a combination of gray-pink. The stylish color of the decorations creates truly winter shades in the interior.

    12. Achromatic modern

Stylish solution for New Year’s decoration – achromatic range. Black and white decor is far from boring – it’s a stereotype. The great thing is that these two colors are equally well combined in the interiors of any style – be it classic, art deco, minimalism or Scandinavian interior.

    13. Chalet

Christmas in the snowy mountains inside a wooden house is just perfect. There is nothing better than gatherings by the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate in the circle of the closest people, where, against the backdrop of a pleasant conversation, you can hear the cozy crackle of burning logs. ..
Chalet-style decor will help you move from a city apartment to the mountains, where the interior can be decorated entirely in the spirit of the north. Here it is quite appropriate to complement the New Year’s decor with fur and candles, while natural decorative ornaments and the corresponding color scheme are created directly by the design. An elegant fireplace is an obligatory attribute of a holiday in a chalet.

    14. Romantic decor

Decor for a soft nature with a developed creative beginning should be gentle and airy, romantic and elegant, vintage and fabulous. Suitable for shabby chic, vintage and provence interiors.
Festive decor in exceptionally light and delicate colors. To the place there will be old grandmother’s toys, which are so dear to our hearts and remind us of childhood. Decorations with colorful painting, ruffles on the Christmas tree and angels. Such decor will create an atmosphere of a sweet and cozy holiday.

    15. Bright eclectic decor

This decor skillfully combines ideas and decorations of different styles. An eclectic approach will create something special from your interior and emphasize your individuality.
This is where the color scheme of jewelry goes beyond tradition. Try to play with the contrast: it could be a pink Christmas tree with an absolutely incredible selection of decorations. The decor should be uniform and not similar at the same time. Experiment with scales, proportions and shapes, assembling stylish holiday compositions from them.

New Year’s decor: 10 ideas for a small apartment

A luxurious Christmas tree, real or artificial, as a New Year’s decor is the most obvious move. But if the apartment is small, you will have to look for solutions that are more original and more compact.

The owners of Khrushchev and other small apartments and houses on New Year’s Eve find themselves in advantageous premises. An inhabitant of a spacious dwelling will put a pine or spruce in the apartment – and calm down on that. When you can’t turn around in the apartment even on weekdays, and for the sake of the Christmas tree you have to evict a closet or a couple of family members, you have to be resourceful. As a rule, New Year’s decor in such forced and literally cramped circumstances comes out very spectacular and original. Especially if you use a couple of our tips. Here are 10 ideas for decorating a small apartment (or office) for the New Year.

so as not to clutter up the space for moving around the apartment. Decorate the chandelier with coniferous branches, balls, tinsel (just take safety measures and make sure that you are insured against fire!). Attach higher garlands – paper or electric.

    2. Place Christmas decor on doors (entrance or interior doors), on walls and other horizontal surfaces. The floor remains free again – for a mountain of New Year’s gifts and a table for guests.

    3. Hanging socks, boots, caps and bags for New Year’s gifts: even gifts do not need to clutter up the floor.

    4. Christmas decor on the windows, firstly, will save space in a small apartment, and, secondly, on a sunny day, will make Christmas decorations even more shining.

And a few more ways to decorate windows for the New Year:

    5. New Year’s pillowcases for sofa cushions: you do not get anything from the mezzanine and do not bring anything from the Christmas market to your small apartment – you just change your usual pillows into holiday clothes.

    6. Small trees (ideally in pots) and spruce branches will provide a festive atmosphere, but will not take away square meters.

Or the following options for New Year’s gardening of small dwellings:

    7. Very small artificial Christmas trees. They can be made with your own hands – from a wide variety of unexpected materials: from felt to pasta painted with green gouache.

New Year’s decor will not only help to decorate the house, but will also give you a good festive mood.

You need to be prepared for what will take you several days, so you should start the preparation process in advance.

If you have children, make them work. It will be exciting and interesting, and will also help to develop in them the spirit of creativity, which is especially important for girls.

New Year’s interior decor requires ideas, imagination, and a piece of your soul.

You can decorate not the whole house, but only a corner or a room, but we will tell you how to create a New Year’s mood in each of the rooms.

We will focus on handmade items. So we can save money and do something unusual, not like everyone else.

    New Year’s entryway decor

You should start by decorating the front door. At what, both from the input side, and from the inside.

The best door decor has always been and I think it will be a Christmas wreath. It can be made from a variety of materials:

    • tinsel;
    • Christmas decorations;
    • cones;
    • spruce branches and other materials.

Create a festive mood not only for yourself, but also for your neighbors, who, looking at your door, will experience New Year’s jitters.

If you live in a house and have a ladder, don’t leave it unattended. Spruce branches wrapped around the railing, confetti on the steps, or large lollipops laid out – what could be more beautiful.

Empty your hallway hanger and decorate it with New Year’s gifts, cones hanging on a ribbon, or Santa Claus hats. It looks unusual and already from the entrance it is clear that you are well prepared for the New Year.

If there is a chest of drawers in the corridor, then make a decorative one and put it on it.

Even if you don’t have any furniture in the hallway, but you really want to create a New Year’s decor, place such a Christmas tree on the floor or depict it from a garland on the wall.

The mirror can be decorated with stars or snowflakes.

New Year’s decor of the living room

The living room is the place where the New Year celebration itself takes place, so it should be given special attention.

Of course, the main thing in the living room for a holiday is the table. Beautiful dishes, Soviet champagne and a decorated table will give you and your guests a good mood.

Now there are various Christmas trees that amaze with their beauty. If you decorate the Christmas tree correctly, then even the simplest one will look chic.

Decorative gifts can be placed under the New Year’s beauty. Making them is very easy. Take old shoe boxes and cover them with paper. Decorate with ribbons, beads, cones and flowers.

If you live in your own house and have a fireplace, then you can consider that the New Year has already been a success.

All children firmly believe that Santa Claus comes down the fireplace and puts presents for them under the Christmas tree. So why destroy this myth. Let the children believe in a fairy tale.

To do this, you need to decorate the fireplace with candles, gift socks, garlands or photo frames.

If you don’t have a fireplace, you shouldn’t leave your children without a fairy tale. Do it. You can decorate it in the same way as a real one, just follow the safety precautions when using candles.

Pay attention to the New Year decoration of the interior of the living room furniture. You can decorate it with themed stickers or sew a stylish case with Santa Claus, deer, snowflakes, etc.

If this process seems too complicated for you, you can decorate the furniture with pillows in the New Year’s style. Sewing them is pretty easy.

If you have sofa cushions, sew a cover on them and apply a pattern or appliqué.

Patchwork pillows with snowmen, bunnies and other animals look great in the New Year’s interior decor of the living room.

You can just sew a red cover and attach a few buttons to the belt – this will personify the image of Santa Claus.

Chair covers can also be sewn. After all, every guest will be honored to sit on such a chair.

Vases with various handicrafts, colored cones, twigs and Christmas balls can be placed on chests of drawers.

Don’t forget the garlands. They can be hung on walls, clocks or furniture. Dim the lights and turn them on. It will look very impressive and festive.

For completeness, the picture can be scattered in the corners. Children will remember such New Year’s decor for a long time.

    New Year’s bedroom decor

In the bedroom, focus on the bed. That is what needs to be decorated.

It is better to do it with spruce branches, which are wrapped around the back. Christmas decorations can be hung on the branches. This New Year’s interior decor looks pretty nice.

Candles placed on a chest of drawers or a table will look no less impressive.

Hang gift socks in front of the bed and put sweets in them.

If there are no candles or you are worried about safety in the house, then put a vase with twigs decorated with cotton, toys or cones on the table.

Pay attention to bed linen. It should be predominantly red.

An interesting option would be to use in the New Year’s decor of the bedroom interior. For example, you can make a beautiful clock, which you can then hang on the wall or put on the bedside table.

Sew or knit small floor mats with Christmas decorations and lay them out by the bed.

You can hang garlands on the ceiling, which will create a romantic mood and help you relax after the holiday.

New Year decor for children’s room

Safety is the most important thing in the nursery, because children are very fast. While you are enjoying a glass of champagne in the room, anything can happen.

Candles should be excluded immediately. It is better to replace them with a variety of garlands.

Of course, it will be nice if you install a Christmas tree in the children’s room as well. The kids accept their room as their own space, so this interior decor will be to your liking.

Wall decor plays an important role in the nursery. A variety of New Year’s drawings, pictures and applications will make the room really interesting.

Spread soft toys around the room: bears, deer, hares, etc.

Decorate your chandelier. To do this, hang a variety of Christmas trees, crafts and paper products on a ribbon.

Kids will love it if you make a big one and place it on the floor near a bed or door.

Curtains can be clipped and decorated with bells.

If you want to make original curtains, then use cotton pom-poms or ribbons.

Children love to look out the windows in winter and watch the snowflakes slowly swirl. To make this action happen with a festive mood, decorate the windows with snowflakes or other paper cutouts.

Homemade Christmas trees, pots with cones or other elements can be placed on the windowsill.

Don’t forget the door. If it is white, then it suits you. Cut out eyes, buttons and a scarf from colored paper and stick it on the door. Get a great snowman.

If your doors are of a different color, self-adhesive paper can be purchased from the shop. It is easily removed without leaving marks, so you can experiment with it as much as you like.

I hope we have given you some ideas for the New Year’s interior decor and you will decorate your house or room in a way that everyone will be delighted with.

    Happy New Year to you!
