Our day doesn’t start until a cup of coffee is being cradled in our hands. It’s the ultimate sense of normalcy (and a little bit of indulgence) whether you’re rushing to get the kids ready for carpool, heading off to a morning commute, or still on that work-from-home grind.

Coffee makers are a household essential in our eyes.  While a leisurely trip to the coffee shop for a specialty latte is a treat that we wholeheartedly endorse, those trips add up. Meanwhile, a coffee maker at home is both practical when it comes to cost-savings, and gives you the luxury of being able to drink as little or as much coffee as you want, when you want.  Out of all the coffee makers available, a drip coffee maker is the most ubiquitous. Drip coffee is beloved for its no-frills ways, but can still be dressed up with the addition of cream, sugar, or syrups.

The best drip coffee maker will brew a reliable and strong cup of coffee.  Whether you’re in need of a massive 12-cup pot to fuel a crowd, or just your solo caffeine habits, or a single-serving for that afternoon boost, we’ve researched and evaluated the very best drip coffee makers on the market. Read on for our picks.

When it comes to coffee, if you want the high-level view of what we think to be the best coffee makers on the market, be sure to check out our guide of the best of the best makers.

You’re here to read about our list of the best drip coffee makers so surely our top pick has to be the best of the best,  regardless of price. Though we admit, this Moccamaster is on the spendy side, it’s well worth it if you’re particular when it comes to coffee.

What we like about it
Snag a gourmet cup of coffee with minimal effort, literally the touch of a button. The Moccamaster drip coffee maker most closely resembles a gourmet pour-over experience with its exclusive 9-hole drip arm that ensures even extraction and a smooth flavorful cup of coffee.  The KBGV Select includes the additional functionality to choose between brewing a half or full carafe to optimize brewing.

Everything about the Moccamaster is handcrafted, including the unique copper heating element that maintains that your coffee always heats between 196 and 206 degrees Fahrenheit, while the separate hot plate will maintain the glass carafe at temperatures between 175 and 185 degrees Fahrenheit for 100 minutes before shutting off.

It also has an extremely quiet operation and can brew a whole 10-cup pot in as little as six minutes. Together, the Moccamaster meets the qualifications set by the Specialty Coffee Association and the European Coffee Brewing Center as the perfect cup of coffee.

Finally, the sheer amount of color options is a true selling point for those who like to express themselves through color, or with appliances that match their kitchens.

Good to know
At over $300, the Moccamaster is without a doubt an investment in your morning routine, but it does come with a five-year warranty, giving you peace of mind should anything start to wear out. I did find the plastic parts to sometimes feel a little flimsy, but they are part of the modular pieces that make it so easy to replace without having to buy a new machine.

If you prefer thermal carafes to glass, the Moccamaster is also available in a thermal carafe, without the hot plate option.

Today’s Best Deals

For the discerning coffee-drinking crowd, the OXO 8 Cup Coffee Maker is one of the few at-home coffee makers with the Specialty Coffee Association’s Golden Cup Standard qualification.  The certification means that a particular coffee machine meets the association’s standards for water quality, coffee-to-water ratio, grind/particle size distribution with a  temperature between 195 and 205 degrees, and a brewing time of fewer than 8 minutes. The OXO makes a whole pot in less than six.

What we like about it
OXO forgoes complicated settings and instead focuses solely on the coffee. It uses BetterBrew™ precision brewing to control water temperature, water volume, and brewing time, all of which contributed to its Golden Cup Standard rating. The signature rainmaker showerhead evenly distributes water over the grounds. OXO also skips out on a hot plate for a sturdy, leak-proof double-wall, vacuum-insulated thermal carafe that keeps your coffee’s temperature, even if you remove it from the machine.

Its truncated and slim profile makes it ideal for small spaces and can fit underneath most overhead cabinets.

If you don’t have the need to brew a whole carafe, the included optional single-serve accessory enhances the flavor of one-mug brewing.

Good to know
The OXO maker has a smaller capacity than most coffee makers; most on this list can make 10-12 cups. Most say a full pot satisfies two or three adult coffee drinkers, but if you need to brew more, a brew cycle doesn’t take very long.

Also, this coffee maker really focuses on the coffee. It has minimal settings, so it does not have a programming feature, but if you’re truly all about the coffee’s integrity, you probably wouldn’t let the grounds sit overnight anyway.

Today’s Best Deals

If you’re looking for fresh coffee and lots of it, without spending a fortune on a fancy machine, then you’ll want the Cuisinart Grind & Brew 12-Cup Automatic Coffee Maker. Why? It does it all: grinds fresh coffee beans, and makes great coffee whether you want one cup or 12.

What we like about it
When it comes to coffee, our motto is “the fresher, the better,” so we’re drawn to this machine’s built-in grinder. That said, there’s the option, as with most models of this type, to use pre-ground coffee, too. The 12-cup capacity is another obvious plus.

We also like that both the grind and brew features can be programmed, so you can have your fresh cup of coffee ready for you as soon as you open your eyes. Rise and grind, indeed. And if you’re really in a caffeine pinch, the machine has a pause function so you can sneak a cup before the entire pot is ready.

Good to know
The coffee maker grinds the beans to a medium coarseness level, and then automatically uses them for your coffee, taking out the step of you having to transfer grounds from one machine to another. However, reviewers say the grinder needs to be cleaned out after each use for the best results, as the steam from the machine gets into the grinder chamber. The grinder is also quite loud, but that is expected of a grinder.

Also, due to the fact that the grinder and water tank are accessed through the top lid, low-hanging overhead cabinets could make it difficult to access. Therefore, you will want to make sure it has ample clearance to add coffee beans and water.

First the hard news: if you’re in need of a compact machine, prepare to exchange footprint for cups of coffee. However, that doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice quality. Whether you only need a small amount of coffee (but more than the one-cup of a single-serve) or have a small space to dedicate to caffeine, this compact machine from Krups makes 5 cups

What we like about it
It’s a simple machine that makes an effective cup of coffee. The 5-cup size is great for small households, occasional coffee drinkers, and of course, those with a small kitchen. Core features include an easy to fill water tank with fill indicator, a hot plate to keep your pot hot long after it’s finished brewing, dishwasher safe parts, and a pause-and-serve function.

Users of the Krups Simply Brew remark about its ease of use, quiet operation, and that it brews a decent cup of coffee.

Good to know
Coffee will stay hot for as long as you need. Don’t forget to switch off the coffee maker when finished using the hot plate feature! The machine has a simple on/off button, which means it is not programmable in advance, and there’s no option to adjust your brew strength.

Today’s Best Deals

If you’re looking for a reliable, no-frills filter coffee maker, that will also satisfy the tea drinkers in your family, then we can highly recommend this one from Cuisinart, (and so can the more than 5,000 reviewers on Amazon who gave it either four or five stars).

What we like about it
This coffee maker is everything you need, nothing you don’t. Program it to make your coffee any time of the day, or simply fill up the water tank, add coffee to the filter, and hit start for a smooth brew.

The machine can make up to 12 cups of coffee (perfect for entertaining or for those who need a few cups to get going in the morning), but also has a 1-4 cup setting for when you’re enjoying a solo cup of ‘jo. It also features a separate 56 oz. hot-water reservoir that can dispense hot water anytime you want to make tea or hot chocolate.

One of the features reviewers loved most about this coffee maker is its carafe temperature setting, which keeps the coffee at the exact temperature you like it until the pot is gone. Choose from low, medium, or high settings. The machine also has an auto-off function so you don’t have to worry about forgetting to shut it off. Another safety feature of note is the lock lever on the hot water dispenser so no one can accidentally trigger the hot water to pour out.

Finally, we love the no-drip carafe which pours coffee mess-free.

Good to know
In addition to the auto-clean feature, all of the removable parts of this coffee maker can go in the dishwasher.

For those looking for the ultimate control over their coffee, this particular Cuisinart only offers the one brew strength setting… so if you like to choose your brew strength, you may need to look elsewhere.

Today’s Best Deals

If you want a quality machine, the ability to make a variety of coffees, from espressos, to flat whites and lattes, to iced coffee, and a price that is really reasonable, we’ve found that the Ninja Specialty Coffee Maker is not too tall of an order. In fact, it’s one of the few brewers to have been certified with the Golden Cup Standard Brewing from the Specialty Coffee Association.

What we like about it
As we mentioned, the biggest selling point is that this coffee maker can do it all. It comes with a glass carafe (or a thermal carafe option) for brewing a pot of drip coffee. Or, change the brew strength and make a single-serve espresso-style drink. It’s even got a built-in milk frother that conveniently folds in and out, plus an iced coffee setting when only chilled beverages will do. And all of it is super easy to operate, by selecting a few straightforwardhttps://www.realhomes.com/reviews/ninja-specialty-coffee-maker-review settings.

The included measuring spoon makes it easy to calculate just how much coffee you will need for the machine and has a convenient storage spot on the side, so you never have to worry about misplacing it.

Good to know
While you can use the machine to make lattes and cappuccinos, we’d stop short of calling it an espresso maker. In addition to the classic and rich brew types ( a stronger brew), the specialty brew is more or less a  “coffee concentrate,” which could certainly be enjoyed on its own, but is best used for creating specialty coffee drinks. The specialty setting also only brews 4 ounces of coffee concentrate at a time, for a single latte at a time, rather than a full pot.

While there are plenty of single-serve options, it doesn’t take pods, which can be a pro or a con, depending on who you are.

Today’s Best Deals

A colorful, eye-catching coffee machine is sure to snag some likes and comments in the background of the ‘gram, but Smeg’s retro Drip Filtered Coffee Machine also makes a great carafe of coffee. It’s available in eight colors to match any other Smeg appliances you’re lucky enough to collect.

What we like about it
This drip coffee maker does exactly what is intended: makes a smooth drip coffee. And the filter coffee is really nice, at that.

When the coffee is made it is easy to clean and maintain the coffee machine once, like everything, you get used to it.

Good to know
Be mindful NOT to switch off the machine at the plug after each use because all settings will be cleared so you’ll need to run through the set-up process again. We found the set-up to be a little tricky, and the water tank is done from above, so make sure you have nothing blocking you from opening it (like a low-hanging cabinet).

8. Hamilton Beach Programmable Coffee Maker, 12 Cup

Filter Type: paper

Water Filter: Yes

Warming Plate: Yes

Programmable: Yes

Cups: 12

Dimensions: 12. 9 x 7.95 x 13.9 inches

Regular, bold, and 1-4 cup brewing options

+

Two-hour auto-shutoff

Reasons to avoid

No temperature control

Programming has to be reset if unplugged

If you’re not looking to spend a lot of money on a coffee machine, you can still find a reliable machine, like the Hamilton Beach Programmable Coffee Maker, which clocks in at under $50. For a basic machine, it still offers a range of features including three brewing options, programmable options, and thoughtful design features like a front access water fill.

What we like about it
It may be an inexpensive coffee maker, but you’re not sacrificing much here in terms of features.  This Hamilton Beach maker has a Front Fill water tank and brew basket for no-fuss setup, Pause & Serve functions, a 2-hour automatic shut-off to keep your coffee hot for longer, but not so long that you could forget about it, and three brewing options including regular, bold, and a convenient 1-4 cup option for single-serving sizes, should you decide you don’t need a full 12-cup pot.

Good to know
This Hamilton Beach maker brews coffee at one temperature, with no option to change the brew temperature, and for those who like their coffee scalding, this one brews coffee around a more temperate 160 degrees Fahrenheit.

Users also noted that the unit was on the tall-side and had issues of it not fitting under cabinets (measure before purchase please) and that the power cord was short, at about 10-inches.

9. Keurig K-Supreme Plus Coffee Maker

Best single-serve drip coffee maker: Keurig’s k-cups for the win

Specifications

+

Reasons to avoid

Pods can be wasteful

No hot water on demand function

Today’s Best Deals

The convenience of pods can never truly be overlooked. Even though some question the wastefulness and plastic build-up that comes from pod machines like this Keurig style, their fool-proof methods are essential for the coffee novice in need of a caffeine boost.

What we like about it
Truth be told, there are a lot of Keurig models out there that serve different needs, from small-space solutions for college students needing a basic cup of coffee to office-friendly machines ready to caffeinate a steady stream of cafe-style choices. The K-Supreme Plus falls in the middle of the spectrum and can make up to five 12 ounce coffees in one fill. For such a large water reservoir, you’d imagine the K-Supreme to be quite bulky, rather it is pretty slim.

Now, the most game-changing aspect about the Supreme is the incorporation of its new MultiStream technology that extracts more flavor and aroma in every brew. Rather than the singular puncture in the center of the k-cup, the MultiStream uses 5 entrance needles instead of one to saturate the grounds more evenly throughout with water.

It also has easily define features like a strong brew button for increased flavor, an iced setting for when only iced coffee will do, and hot water on demand button for tea, soup, or oatmeal.

In less than a minute, you can have a delicious cup of coffee, in one of five cup sizes. Unlike other Keurig machines where the amount of water you fill, is the amount of your beverage, the K-Supreme Plus can automatically measure out how much water you selected, taking out much guesswork.

Another area where you don’t have to question: the K-Supreme alerts you when it is time to descale your coffee maker (after 250 cycles), so you’ll never go too long without icky calcium build-up disrupting your coffee’s taste.

Good to know
The iced coffee is not cold brew but brewed hot over ice. However, selecting the iced coffee button ensures that it will be the right strength and not get too diluted by the ice cubes.

How to choose the best drip coffee maker?

When looking to purchase a coffee maker, there are a few things you’ll need to consider when choosing the best drip coffee maker for you.

How much should I spend on a drip coffee maker?
If you couldn’t already tell, drip coffee makers wildly vary in price from a budget maker costing under $50 to luxury units costings over $300. Add in specialty features like frothers or espresso, and the price creeps up even further. We think that allotting between $100 and $150 is perfectly acceptable for a quality machine.

How many cups can it make?
Drip coffee makers are preferred by many for their ability to make an abundance of coffee, whether to satisfy your caffeine needs or that of a crowd. Most will be around 10-12 cups, but some compact machines will offer carafes for just four cups. Most coffee manufacturers label a cup as five ounces, so take that into account when trying to figure out how much coffee you consume in a day. If it’s just you, a single-serve machine is particularly useful, though many of these larger capacity makers have 1-4 cup options so you don’t have to run full cycles or waste any coffee.

Carafes: Glass versus Thermal
Drip coffee makers are available in either glass or thermal insulated carafes. Coffee makers with glass carafes typically make use of an external hot plate to keep coffee hot for long periods of time. They are usually dishwasher safe but prone to breaking. The heat plate can also over-extract oils and lead to bitter or burnt coffee. Meanwhile, a thermal carafe can be sturdier against cracking and will keep drinks hot for longer without the use of a hot plate. However, they can not be reheated.  Thermal carafes are usually more expensive than glass and will be reflected in the coffee maker’s price.

Filters: Permanent versus Paper
The big thing that can make or break a machine for some is the filter. Some come with their own permanent, washable, and thus reusable filter, rely on disposable paper filters or a mixture of both. Reusable filters mean less waste, so they’re better for the environment, and they cost less in the long run, as you don’t have to keep buying disposable ones, but these machines tend to be a little more expensive to buy.

Programs and Features
If waking up and smelling the coffee is what gets you going in the morning, having the option to program the coffee maker ahead of time can win big with some. You just have to remember to have the grounds all ready to go. Some advanced models even connect to your smart home or an app so you can activate a brew cycle from a different room.

Another feature you might want to consider when selecting your machine is your ability to choose the temperature or brew strength, which gives you a degree of customization over your at-home brewing experience. The ability to pause brewing to sneak a cup is a popular feature for those who don’t want to wait for an entire pot of coffee to brew or even extra water filters. Typically the more features you require will drive up the price of your machine.

When to buy a new drip coffee machine?
When you’re in need of a machine, it’s always a good time to buy, if you want to hold out for a deal, there always seems to be a sale on coffee makers happening at one point or another.

Tom’s Guide Verdict

The Braun KF6050WH Brew Sense drip coffee maker hits that sweet spot between value and quality. Its small footprint and attractive design will make it look good on any countertop. Learning to operate it properly may require some time and patience, but the payoff is absolutely worth it.

Pros
  • +

    Sleek, modern design

  • +

    Makes consistently good coffee

  • +

    Capable of single brews

Cons
  • Water tank difficult to access

  • No way to adjust brew strength

  • Operating instructions are vague

At just under $100, the Brawn Brew Sense is an excellent buy for anyone who wants good tasting coffee on a budget, especially if you don’t have the time or desire to tinker with a wide range of settings. That’s not to say it doesn’t have a few nifty tricks up its sleeve, but its primary objective is to simply brew a smooth cup of coffee.

Plus, it’s not terribly bulky so it should fit nicely on any countertop. This combination of affordability and compact design also suits college students or post-grads moving into their first apartment.

In fact, we’ve placed the Braun KF6050WH Brew Sense at the top of our list of the best coffee makers. After a couple of weeks of careful testing (and plenty of caffeine), we’re here to share our thoughts on why this highly-acclaimed coffee maker is deserving of its number one spot.

Braun Brew Sense KF6050WH: Price

The Braun Brew Sense KF6050WH was released in 2018 with an MSRP of $120.95. Today, it’s available at Amazon for $89.95. It’s among the least expensive Brew Sense drip coffee makers available – the cheapest being the Braun KF7000BK for $15 less . Aside from its all-black finish, the KF7000BK is otherwise identical in functionality to the KF6050WH.

A permanent gold-tone filter is included to help cut back on recurring costs, although you can use #4 paper filters if you prefer. Just remember to wash the reusable filter well after each use to avoid sediment in your drinks (it’s dishwasher-safe).

Braun Brew Sense: Features

The Braun Brew Sense is a relatively straightforward coffee maker. It can brew enough coffee for up to 12 cups at 5 oz apiece, or a single 11-oz travel mug.

There’s a 24-hour programmable timer, should you want to wake up to a fresh pot of coffee in the morning. If you don’t need a full carafe, the 1-4 cup setting will allow you to make up to four cups of coffee – ideal for solo drinkers (such as myself, most mornings) or couples.

The machine will automatically turn off after two hours, but you can program the shut-off time in 5-minute increments if you need to keep your coffee warmer longer. I appreciated this feature whenever I had company or wanted to space out my morning cups of coffee.

The Brew Pause feature will let you pour a cup of coffee at any point during the brew cycle, if you must have your caffeine fix ASAP. The coffee machine will stop working when the carafe is removed from the base for up to 20 seconds, so you’ll have to make it a quick pour.

A ‘clean’ warning will appear when it’s time to descale the coffee maker from calcium buildup. Pressing the ‘clean’ button will activate the descaling process, which takes about 45 minutes. Holding the ‘clean’ button will allow you to set the water hardness level.

A couple of notable omissions from the Braun KF6050WH that I personally miss are a brew strength selector and temperature controls for the hot plate. However, those features are present in the slightly pricier Braun Brew Sense KF7150BK drip coffee maker.

The Braun KF6050WH Brew Sense measures 7.9 x 7.9 x 14.2 inches. Its small footprint makes it perfect for kitchens with limited counter space but it’ll also suit an office break room or a college dorm. A coffee scoop is included, but you’ll need to provide your own storage for it.

The 60-oz non-removable water reservoir is hidden from plain view, which gives the KF6050WH a sharp, seamless profile. Atop the coffee maker is a stainless steel lid  that lifts up to reveal a removable brew basket, a gold-tone permanent filter, and the reservoir – complete with a charcoal water filter and unmissable neon green water level indicators.

The Braun KF6050WH Brew Sense fit perfectly on my countertop, and although there was plenty of clearance underneath my cabinet, I did have to pull the appliance forward to add coffee and water – a minor inconvenience, really, but an inconvenience, nonetheless.

The front of the Braun Brew Sense KF6050WH hosts the control panel, which includes an on/off button and seven buttons corresponding to various functions. Above the control panel is a digital display that shows the time. Unfortunately, this is quite small and not backlit, which makes it difficult to read in low or intense lighting.  This may be troublesome for those with poorer vision, such as myself.

At the base is a warming plate, which holds a 60-oz glass carafe. The carafe is dishwasher-safe and has a plastic lid that I found difficult to snap back into place at times.

Braun Brew Sense KF6050WH: Ease of use

Setting up the Braun KF6050WH Brew Sense takes at least 20 minutes if you install the included charcoal filter, which must be soaked before use. This step is optional, but recommended if you use tap water or simply want your water to be as pure as possible for optimal brewing. (The filter will have to be replaced every two months.)

Beyond that, operating the Braun KF6050WH is fairly simple. Just turn it on, fill the water reservoir, add your coffee grounds (I found medium grind to work best), and press the ‘brew’ button. Braun recommends adding one tablespoon for each cup you’ll brew, adjusting to suit your taste. Anything beyond 15 tablespoons will cause the brew basket to overflow.

It takes about eight-and-a-half minutes to brew eight cups of coffee, which is a much slower pace than the premium Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select and closer to the Ninja Specialty’s ‘classic’ setting. There’s no alarm to indicate when the Braun KF6050WH is finished brewing but the loud popping sound at the end of the brew cycle is an obvious tell.

There are a couple of caveats to note here. First, filling up the non-removable water tank can be a cumbersome process, especially if you rely on a tethered water source. Also, the 1-4 cup setting is a convenience I would have liked to take advantage of, especially since I was only making coffee for myself most mornings. However, there was no way for me to select just how many cups I wanted brewed, so I merely filled the reservoir with enough water for what I wanted that morning.

Braun Brew Sense: Performance

For a sub-$100 drip machine, the Braun Brew Sense KF6050WH makes some tasty coffee. Of course, it’s not on Moccamaster’s level, but with the right grind consistency and a properly-cleaned permanent filter, my coffee was balanced and flavorful, whether it was a nutty-and-fruity light roast or a bolder roast with hints of dark chocolate.

The hot plate does an excellent job of keeping coffee warm, even after several hours. There were mornings when I had a significant gap between my first and second cups of coffee – and the latter cup was as warm as the one that was poured immediately after brewing.

The night before an early-morning wake up call, I set the programmable timer for the KF6050WH’s auto-brew function. This feature worked without a hitch, and I was greeted with a fresh pot of coffee as soon as I got out of bed.

The Brew Pause feature worked quite well, as I was able to pour myself a cup of coffee midway through the brewing process without anything dripping onto the hot plate. I did have to be mindful of the 20-second window to prevent the machine from resuming the brewing process without the carafe back in place, though.

It should be noted that the Brew Sense KF6050WH does make a fair bit of noise throughout the brewing process, with a prominent popping sound at the end of the cycle. (In lieu of a proper alarm, listening for this popping sound will help remind you when your coffee’s ready.)

What We Didn’t Like

For anyone with poor vision (including myself), the Braun KF6050WH’s LCD can be difficult to read unless you’re in a decently-lit room. A larger display or a backlight would have been nice to include here, as seen on the more expensive Braun Brew Sense KF7170SI drip coffee maker.

The Braun KF6050WH Brew Sense isn’t terribly difficult to operate, but some of the directions are vague and it takes a bit of self-sufficiency to get it right. As noted earlier, there’s little explanation included on how to properly program the 1-4 cup setting, a feature I was really looking forward to trying since I can get by with one or two cups of coffee most days.

While the seamless design of the Braun Brew Sense KF6050WH drip coffee maker is sharp, the trade-off is a water reservoir that’s difficult to access. This is a universal – and justified – complaint most associated with this machine.

Should You Buy the Braun KF6050WH Brew Sense?

The Braun Brew Sense KF6050WH is one the best drip coffee makers you can buy if you need a basic, budget-friendly coffee maker. Its attractive design and small footprint means it’ll fit in anywhere, from a tiny apartment kitchen to a cramped college dorm room. But the Braun Brew Sense is more than its good looks – it’s capable of brewing a delicious, balanced cup of coffee, too.

This will appeal to people who don’t want to be inundated with myriad features, like the barista-level Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System .  If you’re keen to overlook its few flaws and you’re willing to exercise a little patience, the Braun Brew Sense KF6050WH will provide you with tremendous value.

Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System review

Tom’s Guide Verdict

The Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System turns your kitchen into a full-on cafe. Casual drinkers may find it too overwhelming, but coffee and tea lovers will appreciate the flexibility of being able to make their beverages as simple or fancy as they want right from home.

TODAY’S BEST DEALS

Cons
  • Overkill for casual drinkers

  • Filters can be a tad fiddly

  • Some brew controls are limited

Like many Americans over the last year, I became an at-home barista during the pandemic (also known as a “quarista,” apparently). I’ve done well for myself with a Keurig and a French press, but set out to put the sophisticated Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System through its paces to see if that slightly higher price point is really worth the upgrade.

Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System Specs

Cup capacity: 10 cups (50 oz)
Size: 11.8 x 10 x 15 inches
Brew sizes: standard, XL, travel mug, XL multi-serve travel mug, half carafe (five cups), and full carafe (10 cups)
Brew styles: classic, rich, over ice, cold brew, specialty
Filter: permanent

As the name suggests, this appliance is capable of making both hot and cold drinks. You can brew a single cup of coffee in your favorite mug, a carafe of cold brew for you and some friends, and specialty drinks on par with what you’d find at a chic cafe thanks to the built in milk frother.

  • Ninja CP307 Hot and Cold Brewed System at Amazon for $199.99

After careful testing (and lots of caffeine), we’re here to share our thoughts on whether the Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System is the best coffee maker you can have on your countertop.

Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System: Price

The Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System with Thermal Carafe was released in 2018 with an MSRP of $229. Today, it’s on sale at Amazon for $180 , but you can save about $20 by opting for the same Ninja machine with a glass carafe. Ultimately, your carafe comes down to preference — a thermal carafe may do a better job of keeping drinks warm, but a glass carafe looks more stylish.

A permanent filter is included, so there’s no need for expensive recurring costs, though you can use #4 paper filters as well. Just make sure to wash the reusable filter well after each use to avoid unpleasant sediment in your drinks. (It’s dishwasher-safe.)

Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System: Features

The Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System features six brew sizes: standard cup, XL cup, travel mug, XL multi-serve travel mug, half carafe (five cups), and full carafe (10 cups).

Coffee and tea can be brewed in a number of ways, with a couple of strength options between ‘classic’ and ‘rich’ options, as well as ice and cold brews as well. Not only that, but you’ll be able to produce smaller, stronger brews for speciality drinks like lattes.

  • Classic: Produces a balanced cup of coffee or tea.
  • Rich: Provides a more robust and intense flavor.
  • Over Ice: Brews the right amount of liquid so it won’t be watered down.
  • Cold Brew: Uses a lower temperature and less water for a smoother brew.
  • Specialty: A highly-concentrated brew for lattes and other complex drinks.

That’s a strong range of brewing options, making this a particularly versatile coffee maker. While it’s worth noting that there are no brew strength options for cold coffee drinks, we rarely see such features on a machine of this price tag, let alone one that serves such a wide range of tea and coffee needs as well.

For tea, you can select the type you’re brewing so the Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System can adjust the steeping temperature accordingly. Settings are in place for herbal, black, oolong, white, and green teas.

Convenience features include Delay Brew (if you’d like to wake up to a fresh pot of coffee) and a Drip Stop button (if you can’t wait for that first cup of coffee before brewing a whole pot).

There’s no pod coffee functionality here, which is increasingly becoming common on these pricier machines. However, you can swap specialist and cold brew features for K-Cup compatibility with the Cuisinart Coffee Center at $20 more.

The Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System measures 11.8 x 10 x 15 inches. It’ll suit most medium-to-large countertops but it’s too bulky for smaller kitchens with limited space. You’ll also have to consider creating storage for any brew baskets not in use.

On the right of the machine is a 50-oz. plastic water reservoir with a flip-top and markings indicating minimum fill lines for various brew sizes. Unless you’re viewing the coffee maker from the side, the reservoir is rather invisible since it’s hidden by the control panel. Plus, the reservoir is removable if you need to take it to a tethered water source.

Meanwhile, the left side houses a fold-away milk frother plus storage for the included Ninja Scoop, which conveniently features the number of recommended scoops for every brew size printed on it.

For a single-size brew, there’s a pull-down platform where you can place your mug. The base of the machine accommodates travel mugs and tumblers in addition to the included 50-oz. stainless steel carafe.

Two brew baskets are included: green for tea and orange for coffee. This not only prevents coffee grounds from intermingling with tea leaves, but it also prompts the machine to automatically apply the proper settings. (Inserting the coffee basket will dim the tea settings and vice versa.)

Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System: Ease of use

At first glance, the control panel of the Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System might seem intimidating, but it’s really as simple as maneuvering two knobs.

The top knob selects brew size while the bottom knob chooses the brew style and starts the brewing process. (That’s not to be confused with the dedicated power button on the bottom right-hand side.) Pressing the Tea button will highlight the tea types, which can also be selected via the bottom knob.

Brew times vary among sizes and brew styles. A full carafe of coffee on the Classic setting takes approximately 10 minutes. Meanwhile, an XL cup of cold brew coffee is ready in roughly the same amount of time, which is a nice change from having to wait at least 12 hours for the grounds to steep.

Except for the stainless steel carafe, all removable parts of the Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System are top-rack dishwasher-safe. There is also a sensor that will illuminate the Clean button when the machine requires a thorough descaling of calcium buildup.

Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System: Performance

Overall, the quality of my coffee was quite good, if at times imperfect. It can make a regular cup or carafe of coffee quite well, but specialized brews tend to be hit-or-miss — largely due to the lack of customization for the latter.

I was particularly happy with how my medium-roast coffee turned out on the Classic setting — it was smooth and balanced, as promised. The Rich setting produced a much bolder cup of coffee for my dark roast, which prompted mixed reviews among my family, though I personally liked it.

Although it doesn’t make the smoothest cold brew coffee I’ve ever tasted, I was still happy with how my XL cup of cold brew turned out — especially in 10 minutes. I’m here for the convenience.

As someone who relies on a basic Keurig for heating water for tea, I appreciated the ability to choose the right temperature for my oolong and green tea bags. The cold brew teas I made were refreshing and delicious, especially during a heatwave.

For early morning wake-ups, the Delay Brew was a godsend. I enjoyed the scent of freshly-made coffee (and minimal effort on my part) upon waking up. Plus, the Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System is fairly quiet. It does emit a few whirring start-up noises right before it begins brewing, but nothing too jarring.

Again, it’s important to emphasize thorough cleaning of the reusable filters to avoid unpleasant-tasting coffee. Also, opt for coarse to medium-ground coffee, as anything too fine will clog the permanent filter and result in an untasty brew. (Personally, my best coffee came from coarser coffee I ground myself.)

What we didn’t like

I’ll admit I’m not too keen on coffee over-ice since discovering the joy that is cold brew. I was hoping the Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System would change my mind. While my iced coffee drinks weren’t watered down, they weren’t very smooth and, unfortunately, there’s no way to adjust brew strength for over-ice coffee. If you are looking for multiple brew strength settings for your ice coffee, check out the slightly pricier Braun MultiServe .

The specialty coffee and tea drinks I made were decent, but once again, I wish there was a way to adjust brew and size settings. All Specialty beverages are one size: 4-oz. for coffee and 6-oz. for tea. This is to accommodate milk and other liquids while maintaining the essence of the brew. I’d like more room to customize here, but this is a fairly standard limitation of at-home specialty coffee brewers.

The smart filters are a great feature, but they’re also a bit fiddly. My tea filter, in particular, would not sit flush with the brew basket and even got stuck a couple of times.

Should you buy the Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System?

The Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System is perfect for households that require both single-serve and multi-cup brewers. It offers plenty of flexibility in preparing the type and amount of coffee you want. The option to make tea is a nice bonus if you like to alternate between caffeine sources, especially since it steeps various teas at their optimum temperatures.

The Ninja may have a high asking price up-front, but you’ll get your money’s worth when you start to eschew regular Starbucks trips for at-home pumpkin spice lattes. You can also save money on paper filters and coffee pods since the Hot and Cold Brewed System doesn’t rely on those.

At-home baristas like myself will revel in the multitude of functions the Ninja Hot and Cold Brewed System offers, but the premium price tag won’t be worth it for casual coffee drinkers who don’t need bells and whistles. The Ninja Specialty coffee maker is a cheaper alternative to the Hot and Cold Brewed System that omits the cold brew and tea functionality, but that may even be excessive for someone who just wants a good cup of coffee in the morning.

If you’re not particularly fussy about your coffee, we’d recommend the Braun Brew Sense Drip coffee maker. It’s not only less expensive, but still allows for single-cup brews.

Many Americans have more than just one type of coffee maker in their home. How we test coffee makers

To determine the best overall coffee makers, we brew at least two full pots of coffee in each drip machine and record the brew time, the brew temperature and how well the coffee keeps warm over a two-hour time span. We also pay attention to consistency, as we do when we test espresso machines and single-serve coffee makers. As part of our brew tests, we also conduct a sensory test and get as many people as we can to taste the results and share their tasting notes.

In addition to performance, we assess ease of use by scoring a number of factors including the usefulness of the user guide and how easy it is to use the controls, access the water tank and brew basket, read the markings on the tank and carafe, clean the carafe and more.

What to look for when buying the best coffee maker

✔️ Type of coffee maker: Coffee makers range in variety from drip coffee makers to cold brew coffee makers and espresso machines. Consider what type of coffee you drink most and if you’d like a coffee machine that can make different styles of coffee, including single-serve sizes, full pots of coffee and sometimes even espresso. It’s becoming increasingly popular for coffee makers to offer multiple ways to enjoy your coffee.

✔️ Strength preference: If you prefer your coffee mild or strong, look for a coffee maker that has adjustable strengths. Many of the models we tested have two to three strength options available. Espresso in general also has a stronger flavor as does coffee made in stovetop coffee makers.

✔️ Number of servings: Most drip coffee makers will make 10 to 14 cups of coffee, but if you don’t need that much, look to smaller coffee makers that make 4 to 5 cups or single-serve options that can brew one cup at a time. Manual coffee makers are also great for making small amounts of coffee because you can more easily control the brew times.

✔️ Convenience: If you’re pressed for time or don’t want to prep your coffee, a single-serve machine may be a benefit as there’s little to no prep or cleaning up. A drip machine takes longer to brew coffee since it’s making a larger quantity, but this also allows for more customization. If you have plenty of time on your hands, pour-overs and French presses take longer to brew and require a more hands-on approach, but the flavor is typically richer, smoother and worth the fuss.

But what exactly should you look for when selecting a coffee maker? “I look for a model that can get a good high temperature,” says Michael Phillips, director of global education and engagement at Blue Bottle Coffee. “Next, I look for build quality, and lastly, I look at the carafe set up.” He adds, “I prefer a carafe that is insulated and is easy to clean.” Other factors to consider include the style—drip, French press, pods, portable coffee makers and so on—and capacity of the machine. And for the freshest flavor, you’ll want a bean grinder and whole roasted beans.

      • Programmable: No

Sometimes simplicity is best, and two of our experts recommended the budget-friendly Chemex Pour-Over Glass Coffee Maker as one of their favorite options for a great cup of coffee. Both commented on the simplicity of its design, as well as the thick paper filters.

“Personally, I remain a fan of the classic Chemex glass brewer,” says Tony “Tonx” Konecny, founder of Yes Plz Coffee. “Unlike a lot of coffee gear, it looks beautiful on the countertop and I find it to be less fussy than some of the other manual pour-over devices. The filters it uses are a bit heavier and more forgiving, and it delivers a really full-flavored cup.”

“When I want to have more control (and as a Virgo, that’s often), I use a Chemex,” says James McCarthy, educator at Driftaway Coffee. “It has the thickest paper filter of all pour over methods, and I really enjoy the super light body it produces because of it. I like being able to taste more nuance and clarity.”

      Pros:

      • Iconic design
      • Affordable
      • Yields full-flavored brew

      Cons:

      • Tricky to clean
      • Fragile

How We Chose The Best Coffee Machines

We wanted to present readers with a wide variety of machines to cater to different budgets, lifestyles and preferences. These coffee makers were chosen based on research, customer reviews and tips from several coffee connoisseurs who shared key factors to look for. A few of these machines were also handpicked by the experts.

What To Look For In A Coffee Maker

As you compare different coffee makers, there are several factors you’ll want to consider to find the best model for your home.

      Style

There are many kinds of coffee makers available today, and they all have their own benefits. Traditional drip coffee makers are a popular choice, as they can generally brew multiple servings at once. There are also pod coffee makers, such as Keurigs, which are ideal for those who want to brew one serving at a time. Finally, there are manual coffee makers, which give you more precise control over your brew.

      Capacity

Some coffee makers brew one cup at a time, while others brew up to 12 cups. To find the best option for your home, consider how many cups of coffee your household usually drinks—homes with multiple coffee drinkers will likely want a larger capacity machine. People who live alone or have different coffee preferences than their housemates might be better off with a single-serve machine, many of which offer a range of serving sizes.

      Brew Customization

If you’re specific about how you like your coffee to taste, you may want to look for a coffee maker that allows you to customize the brew. “To ensure the best cup of coffee, the most important feature is being able to adjust the brew strength so you can make each cup of coffee to your individual liking,” explains Raymond Cole, CEO of Lucky Jack Coffee. More advanced coffee machines allow you to adjust settings like the brew temperature, brew time, coffee strength and more, helping you make the perfect cup of coffee for your individual tastes.

      Temperature Features

Coffee makers often have a variety of features designed to keep your drink an ideal temperature. Some machines have insulated stainless steel carafes that will keep coffee warm for longer, while others have keep warm settings that use a hot plate to maintain a consistent temperature. If you tend to come back for a second cup of coffee, these types of features will definitely be beneficial.

      Cleaning

“The most important thing to look for in a coffee maker is to make sure it is easy to clean,” says Cole. “A clean machine is underrated, but it is actually very important if you want to brew good tasting coffee. The cleanliness of the coffee maker can negatively affect the coffee severely. Cleaning the machine once a month is paramount.”

What Is The Best Coffee Maker For Home?

We chose the coffee machines on this list because they are some of the best in their class. The right model for you depends on your preferences, but for true coffeehouse quality at home, check out the high-tech (and expert-backed) Technivorm Moccamaster. Or go the artisan route with a pour-over carafe (like the Chemex) or a French press (see the Fellow Clara). Bonus: Both these devices are budget-friendly.

What Is The Best Coffee Machine Brand?

While we trust all the names featured here, if you’re looking for a reputable appliance brand that’s always dependable, you can’t go wrong with Bonavita, Cuisinart, Hamilton Beach, Breville, Chemex (for pour-over carafes) or Keurig (for pod-style brewing). For a newer-to-the-market, trendier brand that caters to home coffee connoisseurs, check out Fellow, which has amassed its own fan following.

How Much Does A Decent Coffee Machine Cost?

Coffee makers can cost anywhere from $20 to over $1,000, and even inexpensive models can make a great cup of coffee if you use the right technique and coffee beans. In particular, French presses and pour-over coffee makers are known for being quite budget-friendly, often costing just $40 or so, yet they still yield smooth, rich coffee. However, if you’re looking for a high-quality drip coffee maker, you’re probably going to spend over $100 to get a well-made appliance that brews your coffee just the way you like it.

Do Coffee Makers Really Make A Difference In Flavor?

“A coffee maker can have a huge impact on flavor as it impacts the way the coffee is extracted,” explains Phillips. “From getting the correct temperature, to having a pour that consistently saturates the bed of grounds evenly, to even the simple aspects of being easy to keep clean, the coffee maker you pick will definitely change the cup you get.

      9 Best Coffee Makers 2022

9 Best Coffee Makers 2022 | The Strategist

There are a lot of ways to get your morning caffeine fix: espresso machine, pour-over, French press, moka pot, stove-top percolator — the methods go on and on. Then there’s the classic coffee maker. Turns out, even the pickiest people (by which I mean coffee-industry people) often have one at home for standard, set-it-and-forget-it brewing. But not all coffee makers are created equal, so I talked to a bunch of baristas, roasters, and coffee-shop owners about their preferred models — the ones they themselves rely on for a solid, fuss-free cup (or two, or three).

      Best overall | Best less-expensive | Best small-scale |Best stovetop |Best high-end | Best with built-in grinder | Best that also makes espresso | Best cold-brew | Best compact cold-brew

Capacity: This is a straightforward point, of course, but the capacity of a given coffee maker should be a factor in whether or not you choose it for your own setup. Most on this list brew up to eight or ten cups, with one slightly bigger at 12 cups, one smaller at four cups, and one with the notable feature of being able to brew a single cup at a time (helpful if the day-to-day coffee consumption in your household varies).

Size: While not quite as large as most espresso machines, coffee makers take up a considerable amount of counter space — certainly enough that it’s an important aspect to consider when buying one. I’ve noted the dimensions of each.

Temperature hold: Most coffee makers on this list brew into a stainless-steel thermal carafe, which keeps your coffee warm for a few hours without reheating it from below. This method is generally preferred by the pros since it doesn’t lead to burnt-tasting coffee. Two models we’ve noted, however, don’t do this, and two are for iced coffee.

Bonavita Connoisseur 8-Cup One-Touch Coffee Maker

      $190

      $190

Most of the experts mentioned the Bonavita Connoisseur. One key reason is the machine’s ability to brew at the proper temperature. According to Ken Nye, owner of Ninth Street Espresso, few coffee makers “consistently bring water to that 198- to 202-degree range,” which he calls the “broadly agreed-upon standard.” As Nye explains, the Connoisseur also “maintains that temp throughout the brewing process.” Furthermore, it brews directly into an insulated thermal carafe so you can keep your coffee warm without heating it from below.

The Connoisseur also creates a very smooth brew due to its flat-bottomed basket (where the grounds go) and showerlike spout, both of which ensure consistent water distribution and extraction. The flat-bottomed basket “spreads the grounds out evenly,” says George Howell, owner and founder of George Howell Coffee.

Finally, Connie Blumhardt, founder and publisher of Roast magazine, points out that it is programmable, “a great option for coffee lovers who want to brew at the touch of a button without sacrificing quality,” she says. This model might not be as full-featured as some of the other options on this list — or on the market in general — but the experts recommend it over all others due to its approachable price point, ease of use, and most of all, its reliability. “It’s consistent from start to finish,” says Howell.

      Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Coffee Maker

      $24

      $24

Jamie McCormick, co-owner of the East Village coffee shop Abraço, tells us he prefers to keep things as simple as possible when it comes to coffee machines. “People make a big to-do over a lot of nothing” when it comes to brewing equipment, he says. He thinks a plain old Mr. Coffee is a first-rate choice for any “amateur coffee roaster who wants to flatter their grounds.” As an amateur coffee roaster myself, I can agree. I used the Mr. Coffee machine before switching to a stovetop percolator (more on that below) to save counter space and was never disappointed. Since it doesn’t have a high-tech mechanism for distributing the water evenly like some of the other models on this list, McCormick does offer one key tip: Open the machine up while it’s brewing and “stir the grounds to make sure they all get hydrated.

      1–8 cups | 9” x 14.8” x 16.1” | Thermal carafe

This model comes highly recommended by Noah McKeown, a general manager at Go Get Em Tiger in Los Angeles. “The real selling point for me is that it has a valve hole in the lid for the coffee to brew directly into the carafe,” he says. “It traps heat and aromatics better, and it’s safer because the liquid doesn’t splash out.” Beyond that, there’s an insert that allows you to brew one to four cups of coffee instead of five to eight. The settings are slightly different so that it pulses out less water at a time, and there’s a bit more agitation when it hits the ground beans. “It’s almost like making a pour-over but in your automatic coffee maker,” McKeown says.

      12 cups | 8.86” x 7.28” x 10.83” | Reheated from underneath via stovetop

This is the coffee maker I use at home — and I love it. It’s made entirely from stainless steel (save for a handle on one side and a little glass knob at the top), and using it is simple. You fill the main chamber with water (there are lines inside that tell you how many cups you’re adding) and then scoop your coffee grounds into a filter cup, no paper required. The filter cup slides neatly on top of a thin pole inside the main chamber, followed by a perforated disc, and then you seal it shut with a tight-fitting lid. The brew time, first over medium-high heat, then over a slightly lower flame, is little more than ten minutes. I appreciate that the vessel takes up no counter space, is exceedingly easy to clean (whether you’re handwashing or throwing the pieces in the dishwasher), and is about as unfussy as it gets when it comes to actual coffee preparation (no standing there with a tea kettle pouring an even stream of water over grounds). Bonus: You can brew a big batch of tea in there, too.

      Technivorm Moccamaster Coffee Brewer, 40-Ounce

      From
      $340

      10 cups | 12. 3” x 6.5” x 14” | Reheated from underneath or thermal carafe

The Technivorm Moccamaster was the second most-recommended coffee maker. It’s pricey, but the experts who use it say that it’s worth the premium if you’re interested in investing in the best equipment out there. Like the Bonavita Connoisseur, the Moccamaster has stable temperature control and even brewing. Suyog Mody, founder of Driftaway Coffee, explains that while the “brewing mechanics” are similar to those used in less-expensive drip coffee makers, the Moccamaster “is made with better parts and solid construction. I’ve been using it daily for the past three-plus years with zero issues,” he says. “It’s just no fuss. And honestly, it looks good on the kitchen counter.” While the design is certainly appealing and the construction quality means it should last for a long time, the experts wouldn’t endorse this coffee maker if it didn’t also make a quality drink. “I taste coffee from all types of brewers, and this one gives a consistently better cup,” says Jim Munson, founder and president of Brooklyn Roasting Company.

Jerad Morrison, co-founder and co-CEO of Sightglass in San Francisco, is also a fan of the Technivorm, but prefers a slightly different model. His favorite has all the same attributes, but instead of dispensing your coffee into a glass carafe on top of a burner plate, it goes into a stainless-steel thermal one (just like the Connoisseur). “It keeps coffee plenty hot for several hours,” he says, “without changing the flavor or making it taste burnt.” This thermal-carafe model only comes in neutral colors, but the glass has a few muted shades to choose from (at Food52) and some brights on the Technivorm website.

Capresso 10-Cup Digital Coffeemaker With Conical Burr Grinder and Thermal Carafe

      $220

The reason to invest in this machine is clear from the name: It comes with a built-in burr grinder. Yes, it’s on the spendier end, but grinders are quite pricey on their own — not to mention they take up additional space in your kitchen. Beyond the convenience, “the Capresso drip yields the cleanest-tasting cup,” says Kat Odell, author of Day Drinking. Finally, it boasts that thermal carafe that many of the experts prefer over a hot plate.

Ninja Stainless Steel Specialty Coffee Maker

      $153

      $170 now 10% off

      $153

If you want a single-unit coffee maker that can do it all, this Ninja fits the bill. It comes recommended by Strategist writer Arielle Avila, who regularly uses the classic brew method (for a carafe of coffee) as well as the “specialty” setting, which turns out a thick coffee concentrate similar to espresso and used in the same manner for milk-based drinks like lattes and cappuccinos. The machine also has the capability of making iced coffee. Other bonuses include the attached milk frother and a kickstand that pops out of the side should you want to fill a single mug instead of a big carafe.

Cold-brew makers are not exactly plug-in electric coffee makers, but they’re important nonetheless, especially for any iced-coffee-year-round people. This one is a favorite of Dennis Ngo, chef and co-owner of Brooklyn restaurant Di An Di. “I got hooked on the smoothness and low acidity of cold-brewed coffee,” says Ngo. “It lets me tinker with different beans and concentrations, and produces enough cold brew to last me two weeks at a time. It also stacks for storage, which is an absolute requirement for my tiny New York apartment.”

all about how to brew coffee

      10/17/2018

If you were asked 10 years ago what kind of coffee you want, most likely you would answer “espresso” or “americano”? Today, with all the new and progressive brewing methods, it becomes difficult for us to make a choice in favor of one thing. Purover? Aeropress? Hario?

You can pray for a French press, but how do you know it’s the best without trying everything? Let’s take a look at them all! We will tell you about all the ways of brewing coffee. You can also jump to the desired section from the content below:

When we talk about pressure brewing, the word “espresso” might come to mind, but there are actually many more ways to brew than just using a coffee machine.

This type of brewing forces water through the ground coffee under high pressure, so the brewing time is significantly reduced. The taste of coffee is more intense than with other types of brewing.

Let’s take a look at three of the most popular pressure brewing methods: espresso machine, moka and aeropress.

      1. Espresso machine

Anyone who knows anything about coffee is familiar with this coffee machine: it has kept us awake since as far back as 1901.

While it is now possible to purchase espresso machines for every taste with additional features and capabilities, you need to remember that its main function still has to be performed at its best: brewing espresso.

Are they expensive? Yes and no. It all depends on your wishes and possibilities.

      What to expect

Time (beans to finished coffee): Depends on the machine. Equipment used for commercial purposes may take 15-40 minutes to warm up, while espresso machines for home use take 3 minutes to warm up. Further, for all machines, the standard brewing time is 20-30 seconds.

Grind type : You want a fine grind.

Tip : To check if the grind is right for you, put some ground coffee on your fingers and move them around. The coffee should clump on your fingers. A grind that is too coarse will not collect, and a grind that is too fine will stick together.

Taste : A shot of espresso, properly brewed, has a strong, crisp and full flavor and should not be bitter.

Availability of skills : Also depends on the espresso machine. Some machines will make a great shot almost automatically, while others will require a serious base of skills and knowledge.

Who is for: If you like milk drinks (like lattes) or if you like a quick coffee to cheer up. Espresso machines are unique – no other automatic equipment can replicate the taste of her espresso shot.

Who’s not for : If you like subtle, light flavors, don’t want to spend big on a coffee machine, or don’t have room for one.

      Values :

      Disadvantages :

      • Cheap coffee machines will not give the perfect result

      • takes up many space

      • and a little domestic moment: hard to wash 🙁

      2.

If you don’t want to buy expensive equipment, but want pressurized coffee, then moka (or geyser coffee maker) is what you need. the water below boils, the steam causes pressure which pushes the water up through the ground coffee.0003

Will the resulting coffee look like a shot from an espresso machine? If you do everything right (no special skills required), then you will get a bittersweet and tart taste. The better the moka, the higher the quality.

      What to expect

Time : Very fast. Once you have heated the water, the brewing process will last no more than 5 minutes (a little longer if you have an induction cooker). For this reason, moka is well suited for those who are in a hurry in the morning.

Grind type : This is the tricky part. You will need a coarser grind than an espresso machine, but finer than a drip coffee maker. If the taste still doesn’t satisfy you, then you will have to brew by trial and error: start with a larger one and gradually get smaller until the texture and taste are the most pleasant for you.

Tip : If the brew is too weak/watery, the grind is too coarse and the extraction was not complete. Too bitter coffee – the grind is too fine.

Flavor : Not exactly an espresso shot, but very close. Get a strong and tart drink.

Skills : You don’t need to be a barista to make coffee in moka: once you get the right grind, everything becomes much easier. Collect water, heat and follow the process.

Who is it for : You don’t want to spend a lot, you need something portable, but you are not a fan of light coffee flavors.

Who will not suit : You don’t like the taste and texture of an espresso shot. The resulting drink has a tart taste. If this is not for you, then look at other ways.

      DPCs :

      • Inexpensive

      • Quick

      Disadvantages :

      • 9000
      • Risk of incorrect grind type and failure to complete extraction or digestion

      3.

      Aeropress

The Aeropress is a cult favorite in the traveling coffee community and is more like a scientific instrument than a coffee brewing machine. It can be called one of the best inventions in the coffee world.

It’s simple: the right water temperature, the right pressure, the right grind, and a quality drink in your hands! By the way, this is one of the fastest brewing methods.

This simple, three-piece piece of equipment is on par with the Chemex in the popularity race.

      What to expect

Time : There are several ways to make coffee in an Aeropress, but if you’re in a hurry, you can do it in as little as 1 minute after the water reaches the optimum temperature.

Grind type : This may surprise you, but the type of grind is not critical. You will get different flavors with different types of grind. At the same time, of course, there are recommendations on the type of grinding, but these are more best practices than clear rules.

Flavor : Excellent taste and color of the drink. More “clean” taste than when brewing with a wet or French press. In four words: soft, rich, clean and fast.

Skills : Not required, very easy to use.

Who is for: Travelers and those who want a quick, clean and delicious coffee.

Who won’t fit : It’s hard to say, because aeropress wins in all respects. The only thing is not suitable for those who do not want to use paper filters for various reasons.

      DPCs :

      • Inexpensive

      • Quick

      Disadvantages :

      Breening to soothing

NOTMENTARY AND SURPOMENT AND SUPPLY AND SUPPLY. In short, you simply mix ground coffee with hot water to brew. Then you leave the brewed coffee and throw away the coffee grounds.

Sounds simple. However, there is a fine line between “too” and “not enough” in brewing: too soon to finish the brew and you will get a weak taste, too late and your coffee will be too bitter. The good news is that it’s not that hard to learn, and you’ll end up with a great brew.

The most common steeping method is the French press. We will also talk about Soft Brew and the siphon.

      4. French press

The French press is the unofficial mascot of homemade coffee. This is how coffee was brewed back in the 20th century, and the French press itself has a lot of fans among those who drink coffee at home. Why?

It’s easy to use, you can take it with you and it makes quite good coffee. If you are using a French press, make sure you select the correct grind type because this is the most common mistake when brewing in a French press.

By the way, you can make cold brew with a French press.

      What to expect

Time : Not very fast. It will take about 10 minutes from the moment the water boils until the coffee is completely brewed. You will need to pay attention to the process.

Grind type : Coarse only. Too fine a grind will result in coffee particles not being filtered and falling into the brewed coffee. The coffee will become too strong and bitter.

Flavor : French press coffee is soft and aromatic. True, sediment will collect below, so you should not drink coffee to the last drop.

Presence of skills : Not required, it’s very simple. But making the perfect coffee will be more difficult, but if you strictly follow the instructions, it should turn out well.

Who will suit : You like the unique taste of coffee brewed in a French press, if you have a large group or everyone in your family drinks coffee.

Who won’t use : Frequent travelers will not want a glass French press.

      Pros :

      Disadvantages :

      5. Soft Brew

Relatively recent invention (2010). The Soft Brew has been described by some as a “primitive yet modern” device. It can also be compared to a French press, only Soft Brew is easier to use.

How to use : fill the steel filter with ground coffee, pour boiling water over it, leave for 4-8 minutes and serve. The principle is the same as when brewing tea.

The beauty of Soft Brew is in the filter: a huge number of tiny holes through which even the finest grind will not seep into the drink.

      What to expect

Time : 4-8 minutes from start of brew.

Grind type : Any will do! Room for experimentation.

Taste : Similar to a French press. A special filter is provided for brewing fine grinding, which reveals a deep taste and rich body. Like a French press, only cleaner.

Skills : Not required. You can make great coffee with your eyes closed. Soft Brew was designed exactly for this.

Who is it for : You are not ready to put in too much effort to brew a good cup of coffee, but appreciate the quality of the drink.

Who doesn’t like : You like to experiment with coffee and get creative with it. If this is about you, then Soft Brew will quickly bore you.

      Values :

      • Madly easy to use

      • Relatively fast

      • Sold in different sizes

      Disadvantages :

      6.

      Siphon (gabet)

      00 9000 4000 ° C in the Clinics in Cyphone,

0 9000 4000 ° P is unique in itself. This is not an easy way to make coffee, it requires a lot of effort, so it is unlikely that you will use it every day. Siphon for brewing coffee is a whole art.

Some people think that the best coffee is obtained in the siphon, while others say that it is more of a “picture”, “still life” way of brewing, suitable for a “coffee show” in front of their friends.

      What to expect

Time : About 10 minutes. By the way, washing the siphon is a real hassle.

Grinding type : Medium or coarse, about the same as for a French press.

Taste : Very clean and rich when done right. Since coffee is only brewed in glass, it will be one of the purest in comparison to a drink brewed by all other methods.

Presence of skills : Skill and exact following of the instruction is necessary. If you are a chemist, then there will be no problems 🙂

Who will suit : You are an ardent coffee lover and want to try something extreme.

Who doesn’t like : You love quick and easy coffee. You will hate the siphon.

      Benefits:

      • Properly used, it produces the most delicious coffee according to many experts

      • Your friends will think you are a real coffee guru

      Disadvantages:

      • This is an advanced brewing method. Be prepared for errors

      • Very fragile, take nowhere with you

      • If you just want coffee, this device will be your headache

      Drip brew and filter coffee

      4 Filter

9 -coffee and drip brewing methods are now at the peak of popularity with the growing interest in alternative ways to brew coffee. We’ll look at pour overs, cold brews, and everything in between.

The brewing process is quite straightforward: add water to the ground coffee that is in the filter of one kind or another. The water seeps down and the result is a clean, light coffee.

“Less is more” is the main motto of the drip brewing method. Most devices of this method are small in size, portable, inexpensive and suitable for brewing small portions of delicious coffee.

Percolator, Chemex, Hario V60, Kalita, Melitta, Vietnamese Coffee, Beehouse, Cold Brew are all drip brewing methods.

      7. Percolator

The percolator is nothing new or unusual in the world of coffee. Most often used in inexpensive cafes, so high-quality coffee will not be brewed in this way.

Many in the coffee community dislike this brew method because it “neglects the grain”. In the percolator, the brewed coffee is boiled several times, which leads to over-extraction and bitterness.

      What to expect

Time : The water will run through the filter for about 10 minutes, but the result is unlikely to please you very much. You can try brewing for only 3-4 minutes to get a better taste.

Grind type : Coarse. The use of fine grinding will literally destroy and so, to be honest, not the highest quality coffee.

Taste : Nothing special. If you use a coarse grind and brew no more than 4 minutes, it will be drinkable, but you will not wake up with anticipation in the morning.

Skills : Not required. Just add coffee, water and turn on the percolator.

Who is for: It doesn’t matter how your coffee tastes. It’s fast and easy.

Who doesn’t like : Anyone who appreciates the unique characteristics of grain.

      Pros :

      Disadvantages :

      8.

      Chemex

When you first saw the Chemex, you might have thought it was a vase. There’s a reason for that look: it makes great coffee and it does it in style 🙂

Chemex’s biggest advantage is its capacity: you can easily make 3 or 4 cups of coffee at a time. Like other drip brewing methods, Chemex is not easy. This is not a primitive pouring of ground coffee into the filter and pouring water. You will have to practice to know the appropriate type of grinding, water temperature, amount of coffee. But once you learn, you will fall in love with Chemex.

      What to expect

      Time : Fast: 3.5 minutes.

Grind type : Experiment to see which you like best. Ideally, the grind should be between medium and coarse, closer to medium.

Flavor : Chemex filters are 30% thicker than filters for other drip methods, meaning richer flavor. Something like a French press, but without sediment.

Skills : Chemex coffee can be ruined in many ways. You will need practice.

Who will suit : You like pour overs and often prepare coffee for several people at once.

Who will not use : If you need to make coffee for one or two, or if you often travel with coffee.

      Values :

      • Makes 3-4 cups at a time

      • Boils rich and fragrant coffee

      • The most stylish way of brewing coffee

      • 5

        9000 9000 9000 Disadvantages :

        9. Hario V60

At first glance, many people underestimate Hario compared to other pourovers. And, in fact, this is a simple and at the same time a great way to brew coffee: it is small and light, so you can take it with you anywhere, and the coffee turns out to be of high quality.

Yes, it looks simple, but its innovativeness lies in the unique cone-shaped system: at the bottom of the hario there is a large hole, and on the sides there are spiral ribs.

As with all pour overs, hario has its own coffee brewing technique, but after a few times you will start to get it right.

        What to expect

Time : About the same as Chemex: 3.5 minutes.

Grind Type : Medium-fine is fine.

Taste : Aromatic coffee without bitterness.

Availability of skills : The process is simple, but you need to understand that there may be errors when pouring water. The advantage is that you can experiment with the drink and get different tastes.

Who is it for : If you travel a lot and don’t want to drink instant coffee. The V60 is very light, so it won’t weigh you down in your travel bag. Also good for those who want a quick drip coffee in the morning.

Who doesn’t like : If you’re the type who just wants to press a button and get coffee.

        Advantages :

        Disadvantages :

        10. Kalita

Kalita is the main competitor of Hario V60. Kalita also has a conical shape, but less sharp, as opposed to hario, which means a longer brewing time and less chance of error.

It is quickly gaining popularity because it is easy to use and suitable for every day as it consistently brews good coffee.

        What to expect

        Time : Three minute process.

        Grind type : Fine grind.

Taste : Rich, clean coffee like most pour overs.

Presence of skills : Hardly required, Kalita is less demanding than Chemex. The main thing is not to rush when brewing.

Who is for: You like pour overs and want something small and easy to use.

Who doesn’t like : You want more control over the process. Then Hario V60 is your choice.

        Pros :

        Cons :

        11. Vietnamese filter

Vietnamese filter is a simple brewing method that will take 4-5 minutes of your time. Unlike the filters above, this method doesn’t require much skill: just fill with water and wait.

Why is he loved? For the fact that it produces excellent cold coffee.

        What to expect

Time : 4-5 minutes and coffee is ready.

Grind Type : Coarse – slightly finer than French Press.

Flavor : Distinctive – not as tart as espresso, but smoother and cleaner than French press. The absence of paper filters ensures the presence of oils, just like in a French press.

Skills : Just follow the instructions and you’ll be good in no time. Everything is much simpler here than with other filters.

Who is for: You want a device that will make you one cup of coffee and no more, and does not require any special skills from you. And if you are a fan of Vietnamese coffee, you will definitely need a Vietnamese filter.

Who won’t use : Since it only brews one cup, it is not suitable for office purchases or large families.

        benefits:

        • Easy to brew coffee

        • Ideal for one cup

        • Lightweight, portable and durable

        Disadvantages:

        12. Melitta

Melitta is one of the most convenient options. Great for travelers. This is a simple cone-shaped plastic device that allows you to quickly brew coffee. The coffee will not be as high quality as brewed in other filters, but the advantage of melitta is low price and portability.

        What to expect

        Time : 4-5 minutes.

Grind type : Medium fine will do.

Taste : Not as impressive as other drip brewing methods, but still better than instant coffee.

Availability of skills : Not required, it’s simple.

        Who will suit : Travelers.

Who doesn’t like : You like the deep taste that comes from the filter. You won’t like Melitta very much.

        Pros :

        Disadvantages :

        13. The Bee House

The Bee House is a Japanese pour over that is gaining more and more attention. Most likely because it is easy to use, makes good coffee, and looks stylish (ceramic in different colors).

Learning how to brew coffee in the Bee House is easier than in hario or kalit: brewing takes longer, and even coarse grinding is fine. High-quality coffee is guaranteed, even if you make a mistake at some stage of preparation.

        What to expect

        Time : Approximately 3-3.5 minutes.

Grind type : As for melitta, medium fine.

Taste : Pure taste like the other filters, but due to the longer brewing time, the taste will be more intense. It has a sweetish taste.

Presence of skills : With a little practice, you will quickly learn how to brew coffee with Bee House.

Who is for: You care about the taste of your coffee and the look of your brewer.

Who will not suit : Travelers, ceramics will break.

        Values :

        • Standard filters, they are easy to find

        • made of ceramics: holds heat longer than plastic

        Disadvantages :

        14. The Clever DRIPPER 9000. like another pour over, but if you look closely, you can see that Clever Dripper also uses soaking. A distinctive feature of the device is a valve that prevents coffee from entering the cup without your desire.

How to use : As usual, put in the filter, add ground coffee and fill with water. Leave to brew for the time you need. When the coffee is ready, place the Clever Dripper on the cup. This will activate the valve and coffee will start pouring into your cup.

Why you should use it: You get more control over your brew, which means more variety in the flavors you get.

        What to expect

Time : Depends on you. 3-4 minutes minimum.

Grind type : Medium or fine grind is ideal, but since you can control the brew time, you can experiment with the grind as well.

Flavor : Some people love the resulting coffee and say it’s a combination of French press and drip method without the inherent drawbacks. Others believe that coffee is average. We think it tastes great, like many pour overs.

Presence of skills : Follow the instructions and control the time, and you will get a bright drink.

Who is for: You like pour overs and want to try something new.

Who doesn’t like : You like more sophisticated brewing methods like Chemex. In that case, Clever Dripper won’t impress you.

        Pros :

        Cons :

        15. Cold brew

Cold brew is one of the most popular coffee brewing methods today. And no, this is not about ice coffee.

In short, cold brew is brewed by slowly cold filtering water through ground coffee. The process takes 10 hours or more!

Is it the same hot coffee, only cold? No. Once the drink is ready, you will be rewarded for your patience with an intense, unique coffee with a very smooth finish: no sourness, no bitterness. There is also no need for “improvement” with milk or syrups, you will feel the real taste of the drink.

An important advantage of cold brew is the shelf life: the coffee will be fresh for up to two weeks.

        What to expect

        Time : 10-24 hours. Be patient 🙂

        Grind type : Coarse.

Taste : Strong and intense taste without bitterness. All shades of the variety are felt. And the cherry on the cake is a very soft aftertaste.

Availability of skills : You just need to find the right type of grind.

Who will suit : You live in a hot country or it’s summer 🙂 It’s also a great option for those who feel at their peak immediately after coffee, but then the energy reserve drops rapidly. Cold brew will fill you with energy without a sharp drop in strength afterwards. You will be alert, but at the same time calm.

Who will not use : If you are impatient because cold brew is very slow.

        Values :

        • A unique taste without bitterness

        • does not provoke a sharp leap of vigor

        • can be stored up to two weeks in the refrigerator

        9000 9000 9007

Nitro brew coffee is the “little brother” of cold brew coffee. The difference is that nitrogen is added to cold brew, which in a special way changes the taste and texture of the drink. The result is a frothy cold brew that is slightly sweet and similar to a pint of beer.

True, finding a device for making nitro brew will not be easy.

        What to Expect

Time : If you want to make your own cold brew first, which will take 10-24 hours. Once the cold brew is ready and the nitro brew system is in place, you can start adding nitrogen.

Grind type : As cold brew: Coarse.

Flavor : A frothy, light, creamy drink that looks like beer. The high caffeine content in cold brew combined with nitrogen (which speeds up the absorption of caffeine into the blood) means a serious dose of energy.

Skills : Setting up the brewing system and perfecting the brew will not be easy.

Who is it for : If you like cold brew.

Who doesn’t like : You like hot coffee.

        Benefits:

        • Big dose of energy

        • Light, creamy and refreshing

        • No need to add milk or sugar: not as unhealthy as many coffee drinks0003

        Drawbacks :

        Boiling

Are all these coffee tricks necessary?

Of course! They make the process of making coffee fun and add variety. However, for a long time there was only one method of brewing, the simplest and most straightforward: to brew coffee with boiling water.

All you need is ground coffee, water and fire, why make life difficult for yourself? If you don’t have anything to make coffee at home, you can rest easy because you can still make a decent cup of coffee.

Consider the cowboy method and Turkish coffee.

        17. Cowboy coffee

The oldest coffee brewing method; it’s old fashioned, but it works. And it is not demanding: you do not need equipment and special skills. Commonly used at campsites and picnics where people don’t care for coffee frills and all that’s available is a fire and a frying pan.

How to brew coffee in a coffee maker

Brewing coffee at home is easy when you have a reliable and easy-to-use device at hand – a coffee maker. In fact, it is a simplified version of full-cycle automatic machines, but it allows you to brew rich and aromatic espresso, like in a coffee shop.

Functionality can be limited or extended. We will focus on the basic principles of work, answering the key questions:

          • how to properly brew coffee in electrical appliances, how much coffee to pour into the horn;
          • how to make coffee with milk using a milk frother.

          Preparatory stage

The choice of monosort and blend is a matter of personal preference, but the grinding size determines the principle of operation of the device. The crushed particles of grain coffee should be homogeneous, the size of the fractions is small.

In carob coffee makers, extraction is fast, so coarse and medium grind beans are not suitable. Using an extra fine degree of grinding, it will not be possible to properly prepare a classic espresso – the drink will turn out bitter, and the infusion itself will be cloudy.

If your coffee machine has a built-in grinder, great. She independently grinds the grains to the desired size of coffee grains. If not, then use a burr grinder or immediately purchase real ground coffee in branded packages for use in a carob-type coffee maker.

          Making espresso

How to brew coffee in a carob coffee maker without making mistakes? Turn on the appliance to start heating the water, then follow the simple steps:

          1. Remove the horn, pour 7-9 grams (approximately 2 teaspoons without a slide) of ground coffee into it, gently tamping the contents with a special tamper or spoon.
          2. Return the horn to the machine. Make sure it is securely fastened and the ready-to-work indicator on the device panel is lit.
          3. Place a preheated cup, press the brew button.

Brewing coffee in the carob coffee maker is fast. In half a minute, the coffee maker will brew delicious coffee at home with a dense red-brown foam. Modern models can simultaneously prepare coffee in two cups, which is especially important for a large family and office.

We prepare coffee and milk aperitifs

Manufacturers equip the carob coffee maker with a cappuccinatore – a tube with a paranello nozzle. There are models with pitchers – jugs for milk and cream, in which it is convenient to make thick milk foam.

          Recommendations for frothing:

          • take medium fat milk – 2.5%;
          • if there is no pitcher, use a larger container – the foam increases in volume;
          • when whipping, hold the container at an angle, slightly dipping the tip of the cappuccinatore into the milk.

After completing all the steps, do not forget to clean – rinse the horn and cappuccinatore manually or using the automatic cleaning function.

          Latte recipe

First you need to brew coffee in a 40 ml machine, froth chilled milk (200 ml). Pour the espresso into a tall glass, then slowly add the foamed ingredient along the walls. Garnish the aperitif with hazelnuts or cinnamon.

          Cappuccino recipe

First of all, prepare coffee in a carob machine (100 ml), froth warm milk (100 ml). Combine the ingredients in a cup: espresso is poured first, followed by milk and foam is laid out. Add spices, grated chocolate, ice cream balls.

          Cold drink recipe – glace

The technology is almost identical to the preparation of cappuccino with one nuance: when pouring espresso, ice cubes are placed on the bottom of the glass. The ingredients and proportions are the same, but the milk is not heated before whipping.

A few words about the choice of blend

The flavor and aroma characteristics of the blend depend on the composition:

          • 100% Arabica – rich soft taste, a tandem of piquant sourness and sweetness;
          • Arabica and Robusta blends are an ideal base for coffee and milkshakes due to the combination of sweetness and noble bitterness.

The higher the percentage of Robusta, the more pronounced shades of dark chocolate in taste and aftertaste. Taste-aromatic bouquet depends on the degree of roasting of the grain.

Light roast is usually used for elite beans to bring out the subtle and special properties of the beans. Medium roast is versatile, it gives you the opportunity to get the perfect balance of sweetness and sourness. Dark – for fans of strong drinks with a memorable taste.

          Conclusion

Brewing coffee in the office or at home is extremely simple, and thanks to the speed of the machine, it is also fast. It is enough to learn how to use a carob coffee maker, study the recipes and the process itself (how to make coffee).

And it’s better to experiment, using new varieties of coffee, spices, ingredients and all the functionality of modern coffee makers. By tasting, you will select the best blend according to your personal preferences. The universal coffee device opens up new possibilities for an unforgettable coffee drinking ceremony.

How to brew coffee in a geyser coffee maker – detailed instructions

The geyser coffee maker (aka moka) won the hearts of people around the world with its simplicity, convenience and quality of the finished drink. Thanks to the invention of Signor Alfonso Bialetti, millions of people can prepare espresso right at home without buying expensive equipment. However, despite the simplicity, each method has its own nuances.

In this article, we will tell you how to brew coffee in a geyser coffee maker. Our instructions will be useful for those who have just bought a brand new moka, and for those who already know how to use a geyser-type coffee maker – we have prepared some very useful tips for them.

However, before proceeding directly to cooking, we need to pay attention to the fact that we will cook .

Which coffee is suitable for a geyser coffee maker

The choice of a particular variety and degree of roasting depends more on your personal preferences, but it is worth remembering that delicious coffee in a geyser coffee maker will only work if the coffee itself is:

          a) fresh
          b) quality;
          c) the correct degree of grinding.

The first two points are more or less clear. As for the latter, the best grinding for a geyser coffee maker is considered medium or slightly less (slightly finer than sugar). To make it easier for you, we have released coffee is the ideal grind size for our geyser coffee makers. We tried to accommodate everyone’s tastes and selected blends of different varieties and flavors (including decaffeinated ) – so you can try different ones and find your favorite.

We decided on coffee – now let’s figure out how to brew it correctly.

How to make coffee in a geyser coffee maker

Before the first use, we recommend brewing coffee in a coffee maker 2-3 times and pouring it out – this will wash away factory dust particles and grease residues, and in their place a noble coffee film will form, which enhances the taste properties of the drink.

          Step 1
To begin, unscrew the top and remove the filter funnel.
Important : Hold the body, not the handle.

          Step 2
Pour water into the lower reservoir up to the level of the safety valve.
Someone pours cold, someone advises pouring boiling water right away, arguing that this way you can save cooking time and avoid bitterness. We advise you to be creative and experiment yourself;) But be careful when working with boiling water: aluminum heats up quickly – use an oven mitt when spinning the coffee maker so as not to burn yourself.

Tip : Use filtered or bottled water (soft water is best) for a much tastier coffee.
Important : the valve must remain above the water – this is necessary so that in case of overheating of the coffee maker, the pressure in the lower tank does not exceed the critical level.
Note : if you do not want to brew the full capacity of the coffee maker, you can try to reduce the amount of water (about half – less than o lit.). But pouring more, alas, will not work – because of the valve.

          Step 3
Fill the funnel generously with ground coffee. No need to tamp the coffee, otherwise the water simply will not be able to go to the upper tank.
Note : if you don’t like strong coffee (and geyser coffee makers are designed to make espresso), then you can reduce the amount of coffee (also about half).

          Step 4
Insert the funnel into the lower tank, remove excess coffee from the sides so that it does not stick to the seal, and screw the top part firmly into place. Again, hold on to your body.

          Step 5
Put the coffee maker on the stove.

Little secret: brew your coffee over low heat – it’s better to wait a couple of minutes longer, but you get perfect coffee.

In any case it is important to remember : the heating surface must match the size of the bottom of the coffee maker. If you are cooking on a gas stove, make sure that the fire does not go beyond the bottom.

          Step 6

How to understand that the coffee is ready : when you hear a murmur (or snort – as you like) and see that the coffee has completely gone into the upper tank, and no longer coffee, but liquid foam comes out of the column, remove the coffee maker from the fire.

          Step 7

And now the most important point : in order to fully enjoy the aroma of coffee, we strongly recommend drinking it as soon as you pour it into a cup. Happy coffee drinking!

For clarity, you can also watch the video:

Let’s answer a few popular questions:

Water remains in the lower tank – what to do?

Nothing. This is completely normal, and you do not need to add more water at the beginning of preparation – the coffee maker is already designed with the expectation that not all water will pass through the filter to the top.

Is it possible to brew tea or brew cocoa in a geyser coffee maker?

No. A geyser coffee maker is designed exclusively for ground coffee (instant coffee is also excluded), and any other drink can simply ruin the coffee maker. Cocoa powder will clog the filter, and if we talk about loose leaf tea, then you simply will not get the desired extraction, and the water will most likely clog with a fountain from strong pressure and the absence of a “barrier”.

We hope that now making coffee in a geyser coffee maker will become a simple and easy thing for you, and the morning will be kinder and more interesting!

One of the most convenient devices for making coffee is a geyser coffee maker. With this miniature marvel of technology, everyone can easily and quickly brew a great drink. The main thing is to know and apply small tricks of this process.

Geyser coffee maker: a small technique with great potential

The honor of inventing the method of creating coffee belongs to the Englishman Parker. It was he who in 1833 pointed out the possibility of using the principle of operation of volcanic hot springs (geysers) for the benefit of people. However, the main fame went to the industrialist Bialetti from Italy. He named the geyser coffee maker by the sonorous name of Moka and set it up for mass production.

A geyser coffee maker resembles a kettle, but works differently. All devices, regardless of firms and models, have a similar shape and the same structural elements:

          • water tank;
          • removable container for ground grains;
          • top with lid and spout for easy pouring of the finished drink.

Despite the fact that all geyser coffee makers are similar, they also have differences. They can be:

          1. Various sizes: 200, 300, 400 ml.
          2. Made of aluminum or stainless steel, the bottom is always metal and the top can be made of ceramic or durable glass.
          3. With additional functions, such as sound and light indicators of operation, timer, heating, auto-off.
          4. Cooktop or electric coffee makers. Fans of hiking in nature assure that the first option is preferable, since you can make coffee even on a fire.

The main purpose of mini-equipment is to brew a delicious invigorating drink in a few minutes.

How to brew coffee in a geyser coffee maker

The principle of operation of all devices is the same. The water is heated, rises under pressure, passes through the ground grains and enters the upper compartment already in the form of a finished drink.

First, we will talk about how to brew coffee, and then we will reveal some of the tricks of this process.

          1. Pour water into the bottom.
          2. Fill the funnel with ground coffee and lower it into the container.
          3. Connect all elements (they are easily screwed on the screw thread).
          4. Put on a slow fire.
          5. Wait a few minutes for the top tank to fill with drink.

At first glance, the process seems to be very simple. But why do some people get excellent coffee, while others are disappointed with geyser coffee makers? You just need to know a few secrets of this device.

          – Do not use too much water.

One of the main mistakes: first pour water, and then lower the funnel with ground coffee into the compartment. If there was a lot of liquid, then it will wet the main ingredient, which will greatly worsen the taste of the drink. Water must be poured so that the level reaches the safety valve and does not block it.

          – Coffee grind is very important.

He must be average. In any case, it is better to give preference to coarse grinding than fine grinding. Then you will get an excellent drink in every sense. Small particles can pass through the removable filter and get into the finished coffee, while too large particles will not reveal their taste enough.

          – Stop the cooking process in time.

If you do not have special timer and auto-off functions, then you need to keep a close eye on the drink. Some experienced lovers of geyser coffee makers are advised to focus on the sound, others recommend watching the coffee through the open lid. The coffee should flow down the sides of the funnel. If steam begins to appear from the holes with a characteristic small splash and hiss, then at the same second you need to remove the device from the fire.

          – Spare no coffee

The funnel must be filled with ground coffee completely, to the very top, and evenly distributed over the entire surface. Only in this case the drink will turn out to be rich and strong. But it is not necessary to compact the layer, as this makes it difficult for the steam to pass through.

Features of the brewing method in a geyser coffee maker

Miniature household appliances have two competitors: the traditional Turk and the modern coffee machine.

Differences in the cooking process in a Turk and a geyser coffee maker:

          1. The instrument makes the process faster and easier. You make a minimum of effort and get the perfect taste of the drink. You do not need to follow the process with such care as when using the Turks.
          2. Coffee is obtained without grounds, it is pleasant to drink it.
          3. A medium grind is suitable for a geyser coffee maker, and a very fine one is needed for a Turk.

          Differences from the coffee machine:

          1. In geyser coffee makers, the process is not automated, although more and more additional functions appear in modern models.
          2. The set of types of finished drink is limited: only excellent espresso can be prepared in a geyser coffee maker. There are no additional tanks for adding other ingredients. Although experts assure that in a coffee maker you can get a beautiful special effect in the form of foam, if you remove it from the fire in time.

How to care for the geyser coffee maker

It is very easy and simple to ensure proper care of the device. Its feature is the fact that after use it remains almost pure. The coffee grounds are in the filter, and it is enough to rinse all the containers with water. It is not necessary to use detergents. Firstly, this is not necessary, and secondly, an extraneous smell will remain, which is not needed at all when making coffee.

Rules for the care of a geyser coffee maker.

          1. Before first use, thoroughly rinse the coffee maker with water and make a test brew. Alternatively, you can soak all parts in hot water for 5 minutes. The same should be done if you have not used the device for a long time.
          2. After each preparation of coffee, the appliance must be taken apart and washed with warm water.
          3. It is advisable to wipe each part dry before assembling the coffee maker.
          4. The removable filter must be changed periodically. It is also necessary to monitor the safety of the sealing ring around it.
          5. Do not wash the geyser coffee maker in the dishwasher.
          6. If you are preparing different types of coffee or adding spices, add a sugar cube to each compartment before putting the appliance away. The refined sugar will absorb all the remaining smells, and the geyser coffee maker will delight you with a new aroma whenever you want to experiment.

What else do you need to know

And finally, a few more useful things from connoisseurs of geyser coffee makers:

          1. Brew coffee on low heat with the lid open. So it is easier to follow the process, and a wonderful aroma fills the room.
          2. If desired, you can brew tea with herbs.
          3. You can add your favorite spices to coffee and get an unusual taste of the drink.
          4. Coffee grounds are useful for home cosmetic masks.
          5. The best geyser coffee makers don’t have to be expensive or come with a lot of extra features. This miracle of technology is quite possible to buy at a very affordable price.

Pay attention to the models from our collection. We have selected the best stainless steel geyser coffee makers especially for you. Getting to know them will be pleasant and long. Buy a convenient and easy to use geyser coffee maker and you will become an expert in brewing strong, aromatic and really tasty coffee.

GEYSER COFFEE MAKER OR MOKA (FROM ITALIAN LA MOKA) is a type of coffee maker in which ground coffee is brewed under steam pressure.

The principle of brewing coffee in Moka was discovered by the Englishman Samuel Parker in 1833. The Moka Express device itself was patented by the Italian engineer Alfonso Bialetti in 1933.

A geyser coffee maker consists of three elements: a funnel with a filter, an upper and lower tank. The brewing method is similar to a drip coffee maker: filtering hot water through coffee beans, just the other way around. Water passes through the filter from bottom to top.

          Turkish coffee or Oriental coffee

The classic way to brew delicious coffee at home is in a cezve or, as this device is commonly called in our latitudes, a Turk. This method of brewing is thousands of years old, it was invented by the Arabs. Initially, the role of the Turks was performed by a special saucepan with a long handle. After her, the Arabian jug-coffee pot dalla came into use. Its popularity was so high that in some countries there are even monuments dedicated to the dalla as a national symbol. Later, a Turk was created in the form already familiar to us, which is successfully used by coffee lovers around the world.

The method of brewing in a Turkish pot is quite simple, but some skill is required. Pour coffee of the finest grinding into a vessel, almost like a powder, pour water at room temperature and cook over low heat until dense foam rises, avoiding boiling. As soon as the foam rises, remove the coffee from the heat and pour into cups. Wait a little for the sediment to settle. If desired, before brewing, you can add sugar and your favorite spices. The average cooking time is 3-4 minutes.

Coffee brewed in Turkish is strong, full-bodied, with a unique tart taste and aroma. This is a great way to cheer up in the morning. For lovers of strong coffee, this is it!

Let’s dilute the everyday with something original

Are you familiar with the methods of making coffee using pour over, geyser and vacuum coffee makers? In this section, you will definitely get new and interesting information for yourself.

          Pour-Over

Those who like to take part in the preparation of coffee will certainly love the Pour-Over. This method allows you to get delicious coffee and turn the process of its preparation into a real coffee ceremony.

Structurally, the pourover resembles a pitcher with a funnel. To brew coffee using this method, a special filter is placed in the funnel, moistened with water and then covered with a small amount of ground coffee. After that, for 3-3.5 minutes, hot water is poured into the funnel in a continuous thin stream, from the edge of the funnel to the center. Water passes through the thickness of the coffee powder, turning into a fragrant rich drink.

Progress does not stand still, and today there are already automatic pour-over coffee makers on sale that skillfully imitate the manual method of preparation.

          Coffee maker

Another way to quickly prepare coffee at home is using a geyser coffee maker or, as it is also called, moki. The device was invented in 1933 in Italy. Outwardly, it resembles a construction of two truncated cones, consists of a lower tier for water, an upper tier for a finished drink and a filter for ground coffee. The brewing process includes the following steps:

          1. In the lower tier, fill with water at a level below the safety valve.

          2. Pour medium fine coffee into the filter funnel in the middle, insert the filter into the neck of the lower tank.

          3. Screw on the top container for the finished drink. Put the coffee maker on the stove on a slow fire.

          4. When boiling, the water, displaced by the pressure of the resulting steam, rises up into the coffee compartment. As a result, you get a strong and rich drink.

The geyser coffee maker is worth a look for those who do not like light flavors in coffee and who have little time in the morning to drink a cup of their favorite drink.

          Vacuum coffee maker

Fascinating and spectacular – this is how you can describe the process of brewing coffee using the vacuum method. A vacuum coffee maker consists of two glass vessels connected to each other by a glass rod. Pour the desired amount of water into the lower tank, ground coffee into the upper one. Then put the lid on top and put the coffee maker on the stove. From this moment, a spectacular scientific experiment begins. During heating, the water gradually rises into the upper compartment with coffee powder, after which the coffee maker is removed from the stove. When cooled under vacuum, the drink, saturated with coffee extract, returns to the lower tank. That’s it – delicious and fragrant coffee is ready to drink.
