Strimmers garden: The best cordless strimmers 2022: Keep your garden trim

The best garden strimmers and trimmers

Keeping on top of lawn maintenance has never been easier, thanks to the rise in powered trimmers and edgers. In addition to a mower, they can help trim the hard-to-reach spots and clean up areas around paths and patios with much more precision. This is helpful when you want the lawn to grow a little longer – great for wildlife – but don’t want it to encroach on your paving slabs. No more getting down on your hands and knees with shears. Let a new strimmer/trimmer take the strain.

If you’re in the market for a lawnmower, you can find a helpful guide to our favourites here. Looking for a model that takes care of mulching too? We’ve got mulching mowers covered here. And if you’ve got a lot of lawn to look after, take a look at our ride-on options here.

Our list of trimming tools features everything from a handheld grass trimmer for perfecting the edges of a small lawn to a corded garden strimmer for larger, more overgrown areas.

Makita Cordless Grass Shears

Hold in your hand to get up close, or attach the arm and use it while standing, this completely cordless option from Makita is part of their huge range of power tools which all use the same 18V battery system.

It’s also used for hedge trimming, the cutting height can be adjusted to 15, 20 and 25mm, and the blades are nickel plated with an anti-abrasion surface for long-lasting performance.

When it comes to battery life, it has a warning light to tell you when the battery is running low so you don’t run out of charge in the middle of carefully cutting your lawn. The grass receiver is a useful addition and the handle is comfortable to hold. The battery and charger isn’t included (but can be) but if you already have other Makita batteries in this range then this is their perfect partner.

Flymo Contour Electric Grass Trimmer and Edger

This is a 3-in-1 tool to trim and edge the grass in your garden without causing any damage to trees and shrubs, thanks to the built-in plant guard. And it’s corded with a 10m cable so you can run it all day with no need to worry about batteries running out. The handle is telescopic to allow for height adjustment, and the handle is adjustable too to allow for maximum comfort whilst working.

More like this

It has a dual line feed for more overgrown areas and you can change the cutting head from trim to edge at the press of a button. A great multi-purpose grass cutting tool for gardens of all sizes.

STIHL Cordless Grass Trimmer

  • Buy now from Charlies (£109.00)

A leading name in power tools, STIHL has a great selection of grass cutting equipment. We liked this cordless trimmer because it’s compact and lightweight. Exactly what you need for straightforward grass maintenance and perfect edging.

The battery has a working time of 20 minutes, you can see the charge level on the indicator on the handle, making it perfect for small to medium gardens. When it comes to cutting, the adjustable mowing unit can be used for vertical edge trimming alongside the standard cutting tool, which is better used for cutting and clearing.

Black & Decker Cordless Strimmer

The downside of cordless tools is battery life. But, Black & Decker have a clever way around preserving power for when you need it most with a ‘power select runtime extender’. This clever feature allows you to power up when you need to tackle stubborn overgrown areas, and power down when doing more menial cutting. This conserves the Strimmer’s energy and help your session last longer.

Like some of the trimmer’s above, this has an edging mode as well as a cutting mode and it’s easy to flip between the two. There’s even a precision guide to help you achieve a perfect edge.

Spear and Jackson Cordless Grass Trimmer

For the price, this Spear and Jackson grass trimmer has lots of great features. It’s cordless and has a 1-hour fast charger to speed up the time between sessions. On this amount of charge the battery can run for approx. 35 minutes. Changing the angle of the cutting blade is easy with the foot pedal and there’s a foldable wheel to help with stability of the trimmer when edging lawns or flowerbeds.

It’s an easy-to-use versatile tool, perfect for lived-in gardens where the gardener has to contend with trampolines, benches and washing lines.

Bosch Strimmer

This Bosch Strimmer has cutting line (3.5mm) to tackle long, coarse grass and a blade that’s more suitable for cutting nettles, brambles and thistles. It’s a good option if you need to clear large areas in the garden when re-landscaping. Or if you’re the new steward of a neglected allotment.

The cutting arm and the handle are separate pieces, which is helpful for storage. You can also store extra lines in the safety bar. Being able to balance the Strimmer comfortably can be tricky, but this model comes with a strap that you can easily adjust before you begin to make sure you’re not holding the tool awkwardly when working.

Victor Tools Rechargeable Grass Trimmer

  • Buy now from Coopers of Stortford (£39.99)

Now for something less industrial but equally easy on the back and arm muscles. This rechargeable trimmer is so lightweight you can use it in one hand. It runs on small wheels to help with precision in cutting, and the long-reach (60cm) handle is detachable to give you the option of a handheld tool, or not.

This trimmer comes with two blades. One for grass edging and one for trimming. Completely cordless, the battery can run for 35minutes on one charge. Making it ideal for quick touch-ups, trims and tidying up tight spaces.

Hyundai Wheeled Grass Trimmer

Let’s wind things up with the larger – and more expensive – side of the strimming spectrum. This wheeled grass trimmer and its 52cc petrol engine does the hard work for you. As it’s on wheels with a generous adjustable handle, it takes the strain away from lawn maintenance, with no lugging around or strapping on machinery required. With a 430mm cutting width, it can cover a lot of ground. So, perhaps one to consider if you have lots of grass to keep tidy or an entire wilderness to tame.

The large wheels at the back help move the machine with ease and thanks to the 1200ml fuel tank, you won’t have to keep stopping to refuel. For a petrol-powered machine, it’s surprisingly compact and lightweight. The handle is even foldable. A useful feature if you need to transport your grass trimmer around your grand estate…

Choosing the Best Garden Strimmer (Expert Guide)

The strimmer is much more maneuverable than a lawnmower, easy to operate and mows near the house and under the fences with ease.

But how do you choose the best trimmer for requirements? That’s what this post is all about…

Here’s what we’ll cover…

  • Why a grass strimmer is the best choice
  • Which one to choose based on the type of power supply
  • The difference engine location makes
  • Which cutting attachments will work for you
  • What else to pay attention to when choosing a trimmer

If you don’t mow the lawn periodically, cut shrubs and remove weeds, the garden will look untidy despite all your efforts and beautiful flowerbeds.

The lawn has to be cared for, otherwise, weeds will eventually show over the whole area and outgrow the grass.

Why a grass strimmer is the best choice

If you don’t have a flat lawn in every respect, and you need to fight against dense thickets, a wheeled lawnmower like the GTech 2.0 mower is not the right choice for you.

Getting around vegetable patches is not easy with a mower

If you have a vegetable garden, the surface of the area is usually far from smooth. The trimmer is then the most ideal lawn mowing solution. Here are some top reasons why:

  • It is very convenient for working in narrow areas between flowerbeds and along the paths
  • Perfect for mowing out growth along fences and narrow gaps
  • Agile and handy to operate
  • Easy to move

Update: Having been doing some more research lately, I came across a cool website which I found very helpful and wanted to share. It shows a comparison of some of the best cordless string trimmers around at the moment.

If you’re on the market for one, check that out after fully reading this post first. Even better, let me know if you find any other really good review sites or posts that will help other consumers in their purchasing decision.

Of course, if you need to mow large areas or don’t want to waste time, you can also buy a robotic lawnmower which will independently maintain your lawn. But such a device, though quite convenient, cannot cope with bumpy surfaces.

The string trimmer is ideal for hard-to-reach places where the mower cannot go. Besides, using the device with a cord, you can mow directly along a fence or a building, as the there is no blade to break, so the string will only get used up a little faster when colliding with solid objects.

But which trimmer is best for the lawn…petrol or electric?

In order to enjoy mowing the lawn without turning it into hard work, it is advisable to choose the perfect option for your needs.

The best way to start is to choose the type of power it will use.

Trimmers can first by grouped by the type of power supply into three main types:

  1. Battery-powered
  2. Corded electric
  3. Petrol

Note: grass strimmers are also called “brushcutters”

Each of them is good in its own way. Pay attention to the peculiarities to choose the one that is best for you.

Electric trimmers

The biggest decisions between choosing an electric strimmer or petrol depends on how large the area is and how far you need to take the strimmer.

Check out this helpful video of a petrol vs cordless trimmer:

If you agree to buy a long enough extension cord, then the electric variant will be more economical (among other things), though less convenient. You will not have to buy fuel, though paying close attention to the cord is necessary so as not to hit it.

The main advantages of electric trimmers include…

  • There is no need for refueling and purchasing expensive fuel
  • Less weight than petrol trimmers
  • A wide range of models
  • A variety of cutting attachment accessories

If you choose a cheap model, its power is usually very low. Therefore, such a device will quickly overheat and will need to be turned off every 10-15 minutes which is very annoying.

Remember, if you buy cheap often you have to buy twice…Cheapest is not always the cheapest in the end!

Therefore, do not buy the cheapest one to save money. But if you only have a small area to cover, you might get away with a cheap one

It is very important to consider that trimmers with a low power output engine cannot cope with undercutting bushes and young growth, even if it is declared by the manufacturer. There may also be problems with thick stems of weeds and wild grass. The engine will overheat quickly and may burn out.

Also note that an electric trimmer should not be used in high humidity or light rain, as the water may cause a short circuit. Oleo-Mac is an excellent choice among electric models.

Battery-powered trimmers

Battery-powered models are not often found among the trimmers. This can be explained by the fact that powerful batteries are very expensive and have a lot of weight.

However, as technology improves and lithium-ion batteries are able to produce much more power from smaller units, this changes things a lot.

Of course, such devices are quite interesting. They bribe with their self-sufficiency and fuel independence. However, you will have to spend time recharging it.

In addition, such devices are not the most powerful, so they will not be able to cut bushes or brushwood.

The Bosch ART 23 or Black & Decker 36V is perfect for working in a garden if there is no need to mow large areas.

Petrol trimmer (brushcutter)

This is probably the most popular kind of trimmer among summer house and garden owners. It is also a favourite tool of urban service workers that you can meet on the streets of your city.

The petrol trimmer has its advantages:

  • Excellent mobility and maneuverability
  • Good output
  • Practicality

However, they have some disadvantages compared to the previous two types:

  • Expensive fuel
  • Loud noise
  • Exhaust gases
  • Considerable weight

Petrol trimmers can be both standard and professional. Standard household models are characterized by low power and low price. They come with the minimum set of attachments and weigh less.

Petrol power is more powerful

Professional trimmers are equipped with a more auxiliary engine and everything necessary for cutting plants up to 1.5 cm in diameter.

Brush cutters are best suited for large scale work and processing of vast areas. So if you’re going to cut a lot of land, choose a petrol model.

When choosing a model, it is better to stick to a four-stroke engine, such as with models like the Makita Ex2650. This eliminates the need to prepare a special blend to tank up a brush cutter. It is prepared in a strict proportion of oil and 92 petrol. And if the ratio is not right, it can cause it to cease up.

The McCulloch or Parker Brand brush cutters may be the best choice. But if you are limited by budget, you can find many cheaper models out there.

How to choose a grass trimmer by engine location

The engine can be located at the top or bottom.

Inexpensive models with low output usually have their engine at the bottom. The convenience of this approach is that if it starts to rain, moisture will not penetrate the engine.

Expert Tip

The disadvantage is poor cooling and insufficient protection of the engine from damage.

The trimmers with an upper-mounted engine are more practical and powerful because they’re well cooled. They are also easier to handle, as the engine weight is distributed much better.

They’re designed for long use, but not for using in all weathers…

How to choose a cutting attachment?

Low-power and cheap devices can only work with a string. More expensive models are designed not only for grass – they are equipped with a steel blade bar and a special cutter.

One exception to this rule is the GTech range of strimmers, the latest one being the GTech ST20 which has been reviewed previously. This one uses plastic blades which are easy to replace.

Let’s take a look at the most common types and how good they are.

String

It comes in different diameters: from 1.2 to 4 mm. Use only the one that is designed for your tool – this should be specified in the instructions. If you take a string that is thicker or thinner, the wear on the bushings will be increased and it is quite a challenge to replace them.

Many people consider the string section to be a common pattern but it is not. An asterisk or polygon pattern is more of a memorable designation for its purpose. So, the following types of strings by section are common:

  • Circle – Universal, suitable for both grass and dry stems of burdock
  • Square – Better for thick stems and aged plants
  • Sprocket – The softest and most suitable for a lawn to regenerate fast

A variety of string types will help you choose the one that is suitable for your lawn.

Blades

You’ve probably noticed that some trimmers are sold without any nozzle attachments at all. Such trimmers are designed for infrequent work, e.g. when you occasionally mow the area.

Expert Tip

Blades are not suitable for hilly terrain or fence areas where glass or stone can be found.

In this case, a string is not suitable because it will get stuck in high grass. For this purpose, the best solution is a steel, well-sharpened blade. In order to cut dry branches or stubby weeds, it is best to use a plastic blade nozzle.

But blades are not a reason to give up a string, as they are not suitable for hilly terrain or fence areas where glass or stone can be found. Though trimmers are equipped with a protective cover, a solid object can still shoot out from under it if it comes into contact with metal.

The number of blades depends on whether a trimmer can handle thick stems and grass. However, this is a fine way of chopping grass, so it is not suitable for haymaking.

What else to pay attention to when choosing a trimmer?

The most important thing in using such a manual tool is convenience. When you don’t feel the tension while using a trimmer, mowing the lawn, even over a large area, you will want to use it more often.

The key points to consider regarding this are:

  • If there is a curved or straight shaft on the device
  • The material, shape and location of the handles

The metal shaft is the connecting element between the engine and the cutting unit with a crankshaft that revolves inside of it.

Straight shaft strimmer

When the shaft is straight, it is more reliable and durable, but less convenient and maneuverable than a curved one. If it is necessary to work on a flat area or lawn, a straight one is better, and for bumpy terrain – a curved one. It is preferable to take a trimmer with a demount-able shaft, as it is easier to store.

The set of accessories that comes with a trimmer is very important. Basically, most models are equipped with one of the following options for using it:

  • A belt is the easiest option for a shoulder. Not very suitable for mowing in large areas
  • Double belt – two shoulders at once. Slightly softens the load, but not recommended when using powerful trimmers
  • A backpack suspension with a belt is an excellent accessory. Weight and load are distributed to the whole body, the back doesn’t hurt or get tired at all, the level of hand vibration is reduced.

Choose wisely because your satisfaction from work depends on it.

Conclusion

Now you are fully prepared for the season and ready to buy, as you know how to choose the right trimmer for yourself. Choose the device that suits you best and enjoy the cutting process!

Looking for the best strimmer? Smart thinking. Ideal for tidying up those harder-to-reach spots in the lawn, a strimmer – also known as a grass trimmer or weed whacker – is a handy piece of kit. Sure, your backyard is looking great after a once-over with the lawn mower, but there are inevitably a few stubborn patches around the washing line, water features, trees and garden furniture. Perhaps, too, the grass blades adjacent to the hedge are looking a little shabby upon closer inspection. Well, with a strimmer, this problem is no more.

Leaving your garden with clean borders, a strimmer works by rotating a line at high speed, slicing the unsightly remainders. Unlike a lawn mower, a grass trimmer is relatively light and, rather than being pushed across the lawn, it is held and operated with a sweeping motion to clear brush and long grass that a mower can’t handle.

When searching for the best strimmer, there are a few things to keep in mind, such as the weight of the strimmer, its power source, as well as its charge and run time. Most of our top options happen to be cordless, though there is an electric option for those with nearby sockets and petrol too for anyone wanting to be unhindered by battery life. Of course, with that in mind we have picked cordless options with supreme battery life (or a back-up battery to charge as you work). Some models on our list can also be adjusted for different jobs including lawn edging and brush-cutting.

To help you find the perfect option for your needs, we’ve drawn up a tight roster of strimmers we just know you’ll love. Scroll down to learn more. Oh, and if your lawn mower needs a little TLC, too, check out our guide on the best lawn mower.

How to buy the best strimmer 2021

When it comes to powering a grass strimmer, there are three options. Choose the one that best suits your needs.

Cordless: Battery powered, these give you the freedom to roam up and down unencumbered by the length of a plug-in cord, particularly useful if your garden is long and narrow. Cutting time is limited to how long the battery charge will last, unless you invest in a spare that you can switch easily.

Cable: This plugs into the socket so your run time is limitless. The cable style strimmers also tend to be a cheaper option. However, even if the cord is long enough to stretch to the end of the garden without an extension, movement can be limited as you flip it out of the way of the cutting head.

Petrol: These offer maximum power and freedom of movement, and you can tackle heavier growth than grass, such as shrubbery. Excellent if you have a large garden to work on. But they can be heavier, noisier and smellier. You will also have to factor in fuel and maintenance costs.

What to look for in a strimmer

Lightweight: Too heavy and it can make your arms ache and make it uncomfortable to work for long periods of time.

Ergonomic: You need a comfortable grip and to prevent strain on the neck, arms and shoulders. Adjustable shafts means you can get your trimmer to suit your height perfectly.

Convenience: Cordless and petrol offer more freedom of movement but corded means no limit on the time you can spend cutting.

Power: Look at the power output on an electric trimmer, battery voltage on a cordless and engine capacity on a petrol trimmer. The bigger the number, the heavier the work you can do.

Special features: Rotating and adjustable heads widen the scope of what you can do with your trimmer, allowing you to cut vertically and horizontally.

The best strimmer cutting tools

The grass used to be ‘strimmed’ with nylon string rotated at speed so it is taut. The string gradually wears down, though this can happen quicker if you are cutting thick weeds rather than grass, or if it is impacting against hard surfaces like patio slabs, rocks or walls. They range from 1.2mm up to 3mm in diameter; the thicker they are, the better they can deal with coarse undergrowth. Heavy duty work will require the maximum thickness.

Automatic feeds on strimmers release more of the string out as needed so you don’t have to do it manually, though you will have to replace the spool when it’s empty. Bump feeds mean you tap the base on the ground to release more string, which is more controllable than an automatic feed.

Some strimmers now use plastic blades to cut. These are easily clicked on and off and tend to be more durable than the thinner nylon string, so able to tackle thicker grass and tough foliage.

The bigger the cutting width, the more grass you trim away with each sweeping move and the less time you’ll spend on the task. They usually go from 20cm up to 35cm for household models, rather than those used by professional landscapers

Top tip: To prevent string breakages when cutting thick weeds, don’t force the head into the middle of them, instead move it slowly toward the area so the weeds and stems are being cut with the tip

  • 2x 20V max Lithium batteries (18V nominal voltage)
  • 1x charger
  • 3m spool of cutting line
  • 1x Guard

Colour: black and orange

Function: trimmer and wheeled edger

Warranty: 3-year home-use warranty

Description

For under $100 you can own a very handy easy feed string trimmer that also doubles up as an edger, meaning you can bring untamed areas of your garden like borders and flowerbeds under control.

The Black+Decker brand is reputable so to be able to get a cheap strimmer from them means you should benefit from great value and durability from this tidy cordless strimmer. It comes with two 20 volt batteries and a charger that can be used with other Black+Decker power tools.

Even though this is one of the cheapest 18V cordless strimmers, this string trimmer packs a punch with Black+Deckers Power Drive Transmission.

This feature increases the torque the trimmer can provide for greater cutting power from the string.  You can also alternate between greater cutting power or longer running time by switching between the speed settings.

Pros

  • Easy to handle: This string trimmer has a soft-grip handle that makes the strimmer comfortable to hold.
  • Adjustable: Both the strimmer height and handle are adjustable which makes all the difference in using the strimmer safely for a prolonged period.
  • Easy-feed trimmer line: The EASYFEED feature keeps your trimmer string moving so you don’t have to keep stopping to sort it out.

Cons

  • The handle can pop out of position:  even when it appears locked into place, the handle can come out of position mid-use.
  • The performance is not up to more arduous garden clearance: this strimmer is not as effective as a gas trimmer and will struggle to tackle extensive wild vegetation overgrowth. This buy is limited to maintaining your lawn or lighter gardening.

My overall thoughts about the BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX String Trimmer

This is not the most powerful strimmer that Black+Decker produces, but it is a reasonable entry-level model with batteries that are compatible with other Black+Decker garden tools. The power of the strimmer is suitable for light garden work.

I give it a 4 out of 5 rating, as it delivers great value for money!

2. FPGT18LI 18V 230mm Cordless Grass trimmer

Product specifications

Power source: lithium battery-powered (cordless electric)

Battery voltage:  18 volts

Cutting swathe: 9. 05 inches (23 centimetres)

Line size: 0.065 inches (1.65 millimetres)

Dimensions: 9.25 x 41.33 x 5.74 inches (23.49 x 104.97 x 14.57 centimetres)

Weight: 6.3 pounds (2.85 kilograms)

String trimmer includes:

  • Cordless trimmer
  • 1x 18V Lithium battery
  • 1x battery charging unit
  • Strimmer guard and screws
  • 1x 1.2 mm×3m cutting line

Colour: green

Function: grass trimmer

Description

This cheap strimmer is under $60 but is only available in B&Q and Argos in the UK. Similar strimmers are widely available online. It is quite basic and intended for trimming grass in small to medium-sized gardens. As you will see in the review video it comes with only a single battery and charger.

It is quick and easy to assemble with a crosshead screwdriver.

This strimmer is lightweight and height-adjustable and the handle can be rotated for edging tasks. The cutting line comes pre-loaded and can be replaced, though this is a little tricky for the first few attempts.

The battery was fully charged at unpacking and provided 40 minutes of continual strimming before needing a 2-hour recharge. It is unlikely that you could tackle a larger garden with a single charge.

The battery slots onto the handle and the strimmer is switched on via a push-button on the handle.

Using this strimmer is straightforward. The trimmer head has a metal bar on the strimmer head to prevent you from getting too close to the wall and snapping the wire. If it is removed to get close, you will snap the wire!

Pros

  • Easy to clean: Once the battery is removed, this simple strimmer is easy to clean.
  • Adjustable: Once fully extended, the strimmer was a comfortable length for me to work with.
  • Lightweight: This strimmer is the lightest of the bunch making it easy to work with for a sustained period.

Cons

  • Only one battery is supplied: a single battery will make prolonged sessions with this strimmer a real hassle. Because there are no replacement parts, you cannot purchase another battery.
  • No battery light: the absence of a battery light means that you cannot tell when the battery is fully charged.
  • No auto-feed on the wire: unlike many strimmers, you have to manually pull out the strimmer string when it snaps. This involves removing the entire reel which is rather fiddly.
  • No replacement parts: Other reviewers have mentioned that there are no replacement parts for this strimmer and even replacement reels may be difficult to come by. So when it breaks it is probably heading for the scrapheap!

My overall thoughts about the FPGT18LI 18V 230mm Cordless Grass Trimmer

This strimmer seems to be only up to very light use. It isn’t very powerful and I would give it a rating of 3 out of 5 overall

If it breaks after 12 months, then its lifespan ends there as there are no real parts available to repair. The lesson with this strimmer appears to be that you get what you pay for! It’s a throw away product for the price.

  • 1x 20V max Lithium batteries (18V nominal voltage)
  • 1x charger
  • 3m spool of cutting line
  • 1x Guard

Colour: grey and aqua blue

Function: trimmer and wheeled edger

Warranty: 3-year home-use warranty

Description

This is the most expensive of the cheap strimmers I reviewed, but it still comes in at under $100. Like the Black+Decker strimmer, it is dual-function with the hassle-free edging function that the B&Q strimmer did not have. In addition, the cutting head is adjustable through many angles for precision cutting.

The setup of this strimmer is straightforward and it is height adjustable via its standard telescoping shaft.

The automatic line feed delivers the strimmer line without the hassle of pulling it out.

It only comes with one Lithium-ion battery which does not last particularly long if you use the higher of its two-speed settings. It has a one-hour quick charge and you have the option of upgrading the battery from the 2.0 Ah to a 4.0Ah volt unit.

Like the other cheap strimmers, Lithelo’s strimmer is lightweight and easy to control with a switch-lock for your safety. The strimmer also has a flower guard to protect any delicate foliage.

Pros

  • Adjustable cutting head: The range of positions of the angled cutting head makes this strimmer very versatile.
  • Twin speed settings: the two speed settings provide the option of using the lower speed setting to prolong the battery life.
  • Replacement parts are available: Litheli produces a wide range of garden power tools and can be readily contacted for replacement parts, both on and off warranty. The reel is also easily replaced with a standard wire of the specified diameter (0. 065 inches).

Cons

  • Only one battery is supplied: a single battery will affect your ability to use this strimmer for prolonged periods of yard work. For a similar price, Black+Decker provide two batteries. Other owners of this string trimmer purchase another power tool in the range to get an additional battery.
  • Not very powerful: Though this strimmer has some welcome features, it is not particularly powerful, limiting its use to light garden tasks only.

My overall thoughts about the Litheli 20V Cordless String Trimmer

This strimmer does not deliver as much value and performance as the Black+Decker strimmer but is clearly better than the lower-spec B&Q model. The adjustable cutting head is a stand-out feature but the single battery hampers prolonged use.

I give this strimmer a rating of 3 out of 5

F. A.Q Cheapest 18V cordless grass strimmer

What are the benefits of having a cordless electric strimmer?

Strimmers are an incredibly versatile garden tool and more than adequate for keeping lawn growth, foliage and weeds under control.

In a small garden, a string trimmer is a great alternative to a lawnmower.

Strimmers can be used for:

  • Scything long grass around trees and obstacles
  • Tapering grass for a variety of effects
  • Screeding weeds on a patio
  • Neatly edging your borders

A cordless electric strimmer provides added convenience as you do not need to deal with a long cable. This can be a safer option as a cable can present a trip hazard or become damaged by the trimmer.

How can I clean my cordless strimmer?

Most grass strimmers are easy to clean after use

The plant juices and leaf material that accumulates on your strimmer needs to be cleaned off so that it does not corrode and damage the strimmer.

Keep your strimmer clean by removing the build-up of grass, soil and other debris that is on the cutting head. Remove the battery and recharge it at the same time. Wipe it down thoroughly with a wet cloth. If your strimmer has metallic surfaces, these can be lightly oiled with regular mineral oil.

Have I got the right strimmer for my garden jobs?

These cheap cordless strimmers are really for light garden work in small gardens. For larger gardens and tougher and more extensive overgrowth, a more powerful string trimmer is needed.

The type of power and motor of the strimmer will determine its performance with heavier garden work. Petrol and mains-powered corded strimmers tend to be more powerful.

Rounding up

As you can see there are a lot of options for cheap battery-powered strimmers. However, these are almost always lower voltage models with a less powerful engine.

When it comes to performance, you really get what you pay for as these strimmers will not be up to the rigours of heavy-duty weed whacking!

Top 14 Best Strimmers of 2022 → Reviewed & Ranked

How we did the test

Our tests are independently conducted and reflect the test editor’s honest and objective opinions. Selection of products and test results are in no way influenced by manufacturers, retailers or other internal or external parties.

Every professional strimmer was used to cut grass and larger areas of weeds. The ultimate challenge was areas of tall nettles and young thickets of wild raspberry bushes. However, for the majority of the time they were tested on different types of tall and short grass. They have also been tested on wet grass.

We investigated the following aspects to provide accurate strimmer reviews:

  • Performance: What height grass can the strimmer cope with? Does it strim as effectively throughout its battery life? How quickly can it cope with clearing different types of grass? How does the result vary when the grass is damp or over industrial landscapes?

  • User-friendliness: How easy is it to assemble the garden strimmer? How easy is it to start? How can you adjust it? For example, is there a telescopic handle and can you set the strimmer head in different positions? Does it have any edge trimmer functions that mean you can go close to objects without damaging them? Is it a cordless strimmer?

  • Ergonomics: Can you strim throughout the entire battery life without getting pains anywhere in your body? How stable does it feel in your hands? Is it easy to use in inaccessible spots? What is the noise profile like?

  • Battery life and charging: How long does the strimmer run before you have to recharge it? How long does it take to charge the battery? Can you see how much battery life there is left? Can you see how much it has charged?

  • Functions and accessories: Has the strimmer got any extra functions? What accessories are included?

Husqvarna 115iL – BEST CHOICE STRIMMER 2022

Strong, user-friendly and well designed in almost every way

Power source: Battery Voltage: 36 V Measured battery life: 36 min/48 min (max/eco) Measured noise level: 83 dB/78.1 dB (max/eco) Charging time: 70 min Cutting mechanism: Line and spool Battery capacity: 4.0 Ah Automatic line feed: Yes Miscellaneous: 33 cm trim circle diameter with two line system

In our opinion, the Husqvarna 115iL is the best battery operated cordless strimmer of 2020 because it’s a powerful strimmer that coped with almost everything we put in its path. It trims thick and dense tufts of grass with no problems, and the same applies to weeds, such as nettles and misplaced raspberry canes. The only time that the strimmer somewhat struggled is when very dense grass is also damp. In these instances, you can hear the motor is having to work harder and the speed drops. When this happens, you sometimes have to lift the strimmer head and repeat areas more carefully. But this is only under extreme conditions and this remains one of the best trimmers for long grass and difficult garden areas. Under normal to difficult conditions, there are no problems in efficiently trimming large amounts of weed and brushwood. The Achilles’ heel is thin tufts of grass which occasionally get stuck in the strimmer head and wind around it. Fortunately, this doesn’t happen often, and even then, only with grass that’s at least 50 cm tall. Another flaw is that you can’t angle the strimmer head, which is a disadvantage if you’re trimming slopes.

The Husqvarna 115iL has a good design and high build quality. Despite the garden strimmer being heavy, this isn’t something you notice when you’re strimming. The balance in the machine is excellent. You can easily adapt the strimmer to your height by releasing a control, pulling out the lower part and locking the control again. Tool-free solutions like this are user-friendly and what buyers appreciate. There’s a small but clearly marked power button, together with a button that starts an eco-mode which reduces the strimmer speed. This is handy when you’re cutting not too dense vegetation and don’t want to use the battery unnecessarily. In this mode, it’s relatively quiet for a strimmer. In the normal mode, the noise level is medium-high, but it has a nice muffled profile. The 115iL is a user-friendly, well designed and powerful strimmer that’s suitable for homeowners with mixed weeds and grass – primarily on flat ground.

2. Cub Cadet LH5 T60 – BEST PREMIUM CHOICE

Time efficient and easy-to-use trimmer

Type: Battery-powered grass trimmer (60 V, tested at 2.5 Ah) Operating time: 27 minutes Felling: Wire roll (semi-automatic line feed) 330 mm trimming circle diameter with double lines Weight without battery: 3.6 kg

The Cub Cadet LH5 T60 is a grass trimmer that cuts really well despite a slightly lower speed considering the price. It can handle both coarse and long grass, and has time to cut the grass without problems if you work at a normal pace. There are models that work even faster, but the LH5 T60 does what you expect from it, and does it well.

The LH5 T60 has an adjustable rig so you can adapt it to the user’s height. It is a seamless product, which gives you a versatile grass trimmer. The handle is also seamlessly adjustable with a range of about 8–9 centimetres up or down.

You have a space behind the rear handle that is quite large, and you can rest your arm there while pushing the trimmer backwards to control the height from the ground. It will then rest on your forearm instead of you having to lift it by the handle. This is very relaxing and pleasant when using it for long periods of time.

Variable power

The grass trimmer has two power settings, high and low. The operating time of 27 minutes was measured on the powerful mode. We were impressed by how long it lasted in both difficult and easy terrain.

In the lower setting, there is also a clear difference. Often the settings are similar to each other, but here you get a more economical experience in the lower setting, which is ideal for when the grass has not yet grown much.

The only real drawback of this trimmer is that you need to read how to refill the line. The solution is not standard, as you put the line through the roll and then twist it up by rotating the head. It’s a smart solution, but before you understand how it works, it’s a bit tricky and the user manual unfortunately provides poor instructions.

The grass trimmer has no annoying vibrations and is easy to balance as you can adjust the telescopic rig seamlessly. Even though the weight is a few hundred grams more than some competitors in the same price range, it does not feel heavier once you trim. The sound level is low and the sound profile tends towards being softer.

The Cub Cadet LH5 T60 is suitable for those looking for a powerful and versatile grass trimmer with high construction quality and a well thought-out design.

3. Stiga SGT 500 AE – BEST BUDGET CHOICE STRIMMER

Well-designed strimmer with several different functions

Price class: Budget Power source: Battery Voltage: 48 V Measured noise level: 83 dB Cutting mechanism: Line and spool Battery capacity: 2 Ah Weight: 3. 4 kg (excl. battery) Measured battery life: 15 min Automatic line feed: Yes Miscellaneous: 30 cm cutting width, two-wire system

The ** Stiga SGT 500 AE ** is an easy-to-use, strimmer in the budget segment. One advantage of this machine is that you can use the battery for several of your other Stiga products, should you have any.

Overall performance is sufficient to allow you to deal with small bushes and medium-thick tufts of grass. You can tell from the sound that the engine has to work harder on the medium-thick tufts, and with thick tufts you have to strim a little bit at a time for it to cope.

The SGT 500 AE isn’t suitable for larger properties with fields or coarse weeds. The strimmer is strong enough for that sort of work, but isn’t efficient compared to some slightly more expensive models. On the other hand, the SGT 500 AE works really well for trimming the edges of your lawn where a robotic lawn mower can’t reach, for example.

One advantage of this model is that you can turn the trimmer head 90 degrees by pressing a button and rotating it. This makes it easier when you’re strimming along edges. The support wheel in the housing is another plus because once you’ve rotated the trimmer head, you can then use the wheel to get a nice even result.

We measured the working time at 15 minutes, which is fine in terms of competition in the same price class, but it’d still be nice to see a few more minutes on the clock.

Easy to store

The build quality is decent. The strimmer squeaks a bit and the plastic feels a bit flimsy, but it’s well-balanced and easy to carry around. The grip is comfortable to hold. Although there’s some vibration, it’s pretty limited given the price class. The strimmer also worked fine throughout the whole season. It also started for season two without any problems.

You can partially dismantle the rig to make it easier to store the strimmer for the winter.

The Stiga SGT 500 AE is suitable for anyone looking for a strimmer trimmer for the average garden, where you have some edges along the lawn to be tidied up or for those who have a plot with slopes that can’t be cut with the lawn mower.

4. Stihl FSA 60 R

Really time efficient and comfortable grass trimmer

Power source: Battery Voltage: 36 V Felling type: Line reel Battery capacity: 4 Ah Dimensions: Adjustable length mm Weight: 3.1 kg without battery Measured battery life: 18 minutes Automatic line feed: Yes Other: Steel bar

Stihl FSA 60 R is a grass trimmer with great performance. Although the battery life is far from best in test, this trimmer is very time efficient. You don’t need to walk over the area several times or walk slowly, as it will have time to trim the grass no matter how fast you are. The FSA 60 R also has a fairly large trimming diameter. All in all, this makes the slightly limited battery life marginally negative.

The grass trimmer has a good splash guard – it is made of plastic but feels robust. It also has the traditional steel arch at the front of the trimmer head, which you can fold down to avoid damaging trees, plants and furniture. Unfortunately, you cannot set the angle of the trimmer head.

The handle is adjusted by releasing two torx screws. Unfortunately, this requires tools. Nowadays, there are smart click-on systems that would have been more appropriate given the price.

Comfortable to trim with

The trimmer has a child safety lock via a separate button that only needs to be pressed at the start. The battery is located at the back and is easy to insert and remove. There is also a loop on the trimmer so you can hang it on the wall.

FSA 60 R is nicely relieved of vibration and well-balanced. It is not very heavy, so there is no need for a harness.

As a result of the slightly higher engine speed, the sound profile is somewhat unpleasant, but nothing that will bother you, and you should always trim with ear muffs anyway.

The Stihl FSA 60 R is suitable for those looking for a powerful and fairly ergonomic grass trimmer. Its big advantage is how quickly you can trim large areas.

5. Black+Decker BCSTE636

Flexible grass trimmer with cord feed via button

Type: Battery-powered grass trimmer (36 V, tested with 2.5 Ah) Operating time: 32 minutes Felling: Wire roll (automatic line feed) 330 mm trimming circle diameter with double wires Weight without battery: 3.2 kg

The Black+Decker BCSTE636 is a grass trimmer with great performance considering its price. It managed almost everything we exposed it to, from thick tufts to ordinary grass on the edge of the lawn. However, it cannot cope with very tall grass, as it gets tangled in the trimmer head.

The trimmer has some smart solutions despite being so cheap. You have a space at the back where you can rest your arm and thus relieve your hands. You have two power settings so that you can vary the engine speed according to the task at hand, and thus save battery power if necessary. Operating time is long at 32 minutes, measured in the toughest performance mode.

Ideal for trimming slopes

The trimmer has some vibrations but an OK balance. A clear advantage is its low weight and the tiltable trimmer head, so you can trim slopes, edges, and other angles without having to hold it in an uncomfortable position.

BCSTE636 has a seamless setting of the rig, so that you can adapt it to how tall you are. Another plus is that it is wire fed at the push of a button – you don’t have to dunk it down on the slope each time. Most people will appreciate how versatile it is thanks to these two functions, and it is a clear advantage for pensioners.

During the season, the Black+Decker BCSTE636 was a contender for the test winner position, until it suddenly broke. The overall quality of the construction is a little more plastic than many others. The problem that made it break was that we used it for grass that was 30–40 centimetres high. It twisted into the trimmer head and destroyed it.

Otherwise, the Black+Decker BCSTE636 is a really good grass trimmer both in terms of functionality and performance. You can expect a slightly lower construction quality, and that it won’t handle tall grass. But it’s still good value for money, especially if you have more B+D machines with the same voltage so you can share the battery.

6. Ryobi RLT1832

Professional strimmer with long battery life and great cutting result

Power source: Battery Voltage: 18 V Measured noise level: 82.7 dB Charging time: 80 min Cutting mechanism: Line and spool Battery capacity: 2.5 Ah Measured battery life: 25 minutes Automatic line feed: Yes Miscellaneous: Adjustable cutting width, 25-30 cm, edge cutting mode User manual (PDF): PDF

The Ryobi RLT1832 has a long battery life and provides effective strimming, making it extremely good value for money. It’s never too heavy for your back or painful on your hands. It also runs at maximum throughout the battery life and doesn’t start to lose power towards the end.

The rubberised handles offer a good grip. The build quality feels solid, without strange noises or instability in any parts when we wiggle or pull on them. It’s easy to set the handle and strimmer head in the right position.

However, it can sometimes be difficult to get the battery out of the attachment on the strimmer. We’d also have liked a plant protector to be able to get as close as possible to objects.

A relatively simple but efficient strimmer

The RLT1832 is powerful and can cope with most terrain. It deals with thick clumps of tall grass and weeds despite coming with a spool of line instead of plastic blades. However, it struggled somewhat when it came to thickets of small wild raspberry bushes. For a strimmer, however, it does more than an acceptable job.

The spool of line lasts for about seven medium-tough sessions with lots of grass and some weeds before you have to replace it. Replacing the spool is simple. However, something that’s a little less pleasant is the strimmer’s noise profile, which is quite strident.

Another negative factor is that on a couple of occasions the line wasn’t fed out enough, so we had to pull it out by hand. But given the quality of this cheap strimmer, and above all how long it strims before the battery gives up, this is a really good purchase in the 18-volt class.

7. AL-KO GT 2025

Long battery life and good cutting result

Power source: Battery Voltage: 20 V Measured noise level: 84 dB (measured) Cutting mechanism: Line and spool Battery capacity: 2.5 Ah Dimensions: Adjustable length mm Weight: 2. 4 kg with battery Measured battery life: 24.5 minutes Charging time: 200 min (stated value) Automatic line feed: Yes Miscellaneous: Edging wheel User manual: PDF

The AL-KO GT 2025is an easily adjusted cordless strimmer with arguably the best battery life around. It’s easy to assemble, but it would have been nice if the assembly process was tool-free like many of its competitors. As it stands, you need to use four screws. But this is neither difficult nor too time-consuming.

Once it’s assembled, the strimmer is easy to adjust. Replacing the spool is simple. The strimmer is also good at feeding out the line when required.

And it’s very easy to adjust the strimmer head angle. You can rotate the extra handle around simply by releasing a knob – or change the angle of the handle. This means you can easily find a really comfortable working position regardless of whether you’re strimming along the fence or under garden furniture.

But the machine suffers from considerable vibration, which can be unpleasant over time. It’s also quite heavy for a relatively small strimmer and plasticky piece of gardening kit.

Long battery life under simple conditions

The AL-KO GT 2025 has a single line that it uses to strim with. It does a really good job of handling thick weeds. For example, individual raspberry canes in light vegetation pose no issues at all.

But it does sometimes struggle with very thick, dense grass. Areas of very green grass that’s developed into large tufts tend to slow it down, although it doesn’t get completely stuck. Now and then, the long grass winds itself around the strimmer head. For that reason, there are better strimmers for long grass out there.

We managed three sessions of normal vegetation before the spool runs out. But there’s a handy extra spool mounted on the side of the strimmer. The operational time is very good and the battery charging time is exceptionally fast – at just under two hours.

Overall, this is a decent strimmer if you’ve got an average-sized garden with mixed vegetation, as long as you don’t have large areas of high, very dense and thick grass. The long battery life is its main advantage because you’ll get quite a lot use before it needs recharging.

8. Gardena Li-18/23R

User-friendly strimmer with long battery life

Power source: Battery Voltage: 18V Measured battery life: 25 minutes **Measured noise level:**77.1 dB Charging time: 180 min Cutting mechanism: Plastic blade Battery capacity: 2. 6 Ah Automatic line feed: No, blade Miscellaneous: Edge cutting position User manual: PDF

The Gardena Li-18/23R is a useful professional strimmer that’s easy to install and use. It’s one of the trimmers with blades instead of a spool of line, together with a set of replacement blades. As standard, a blade is attached to the strimmer head. The metal blades handle everything we exposed them to – from normal grass to tougher undergrowth and thick clumps of wet grass. But it wears out quickly. It gets significantly abraded even during the first strimming session. After this, the strimmer isn’t really as efficient when strimming, as the more stubborn strands remain – and you have to strim the same area several times. However, it can still cope with relatively coarse and more stable undergrowth. The blades then work for a further 3-4 sessions before they need changing. They’re very simple to change, with a simple click-in function. The installation of the strimmer is also very straightforward. All parts are snap-on, so no tools are required. It’s easy to adjust the handle and the angle of the strimmer head. In other words, user-friendliness is top-notch from start to finish. The strimmer is relatively light too.

The aspect we found to be negative about the design is that it’s bulky and plasticky. The entire trimmer somehow gives a cheap strimmer impression. It could have been neater and had more rubberised details at the adjustment points. However, the battery life is solid. The included battery gives you a cutting time of 25 minutes. The battery is charged using a compact and neat charger. The battery also has an indicator that shows how much it has charged. However, we never really got this to work as it always seemed to show 50% full on our example even when the strimmer battery was completely flat. But the Gardena Li-18/23R is a powerful and very user-friendly strimmer with a very long cutting time. If it had received a little more love in terms of sustainability in the blades (preferably metal blades), it would have received top marks, but it’s still a very good buy.

9. Husqvarna 315iC

Performs well under normal conditions

Price class: Medium Power source: Battery Voltage: 36 V Measured noise level: 73.4 dB Cutting mechanism: Line and spool Cutting width: 33 cm Battery capacity: 4 Ah Measured battery life: 28 minutes (7 min/Ah) Automatic line feed: Yes Operating instructions: PDF

The Husqvarna 315iC is a well-balanced, light strimmer offering good performance combined with a user-friendly design.

It manages, without complaint, to trim tufts of grass, things like young raspberry bushes and the like as well as areas of green brush. And this is more than enough for the average homeowner.

On the other hand, the strimmer does start to struggle a bit when faced with really dense tufts of grass. We noticed the sound of the engine increasing and also that some of the grass is simply battered down rather than cut.

We also found that grass longer than 20 cm easily gets tangled between the strimmer head and the bracket, so the machine comes to a stop. You then have to either remove this by hand or alternatively give the machine a lot of power so the centrifugal force shakes it loose. Which works best depends on how tangled it is.

How long you can use it

Because the 315iC is so well balanced, it’s not much of an effort to carry it, even without a harness. Vibrations in the two grips are also fairly minor.

The design is easy to understand and simple to work with. However, we’d have liked to see the option to angle the trimmer head, which would have been useful on slopes.

The battery life is also on the poor side, and a good bit shorter than we’d expected, especially given that the strimmer doesn’t stand out in terms of power compared to its competitors. You have enough time to trim an area of about 10 m2 with a 4-amp battery.

The Husqvarna 315IC is a user-friendly strimmer offering good performance for those who keep on top of their garden maintenance.

10. Ryobi OLT1833

Strong and long, but short battery life

Power source: Battery Voltage: 18 V Measured noise level: 84.9 dB/82.3 dB (max/eco) Charging time: 180 min Cutting mechanism: Line and spool Weight: 3. 3 kg Measured battery life: 6 min Battery capacity: 2.5 Ah (not included) Automatic line feed: Yes Miscellaneous: 28/33 cm trim circle diameter with two line system User manual: PDF

The Ryobi OLT1833 is a relatively strong and long strimmer that deals effectively with tough terrain. It’s efficient because it can handle large areas in a single sweep without you having to go over them again.

The OLT1833 also has an eco mode that’s meant to save battery. This means it runs on a slightly lower speed, but even then it’s still very strong. But we’d have liked to see a bigger difference between the two modes. As it stands, the time saving is only about two minutes, while it can still cope with quite tough terrain in eco mode.

By reducing the strength still more, it would have been possible to get a much longer operating time for simpler tasks. And this would have made the OLT1833 much better, because it really suffers from its battery life. Consequently, we recommend that you buy an extra battery of at least 2.5 Ah to get a reasonable operating time, even if this makes it twice as expensive.

Works well enough, but without finesse

As we mentioned above, the Ryobi OLT1833 has quite a long shaft. Unfortunately you can’t set either the angle of the strimmer head or the length of the shaft. So the OLT1833 is most suitable on flat terrain.

It’s also unnecessarily complicated to assemble the strimmer. In total you need three different types of screws – for just five screws in all. We would have preferred a solution where all of the screws could be tightened with the Allen key included, and that the solution for the handle instead had a lever or a fixed screw.

Despite the fact that the shaft length isn’t adjustable, you can still find a good balance in the machine. The strimmer is also quite light, so it’s never a problem carrying it around. We’d have liked to see a plant protector, though.

The OLT1833 is primarily suitable in smaller gardens with plentiful, dense weeds where you don’t need to work around a lot of obstacles.

11. AL-KO GTLi 18V Comfort

User-friendly and tough but poor battery life

Power source: Battery Battery: 18V Dimensions: Adjustable length mm Weight: 2.4 kg with battery Measured battery life: 14 minutes Measured noise level: 81.7 dB Charging time: 200 min Cutting mechanism: Line and spool Battery capacity: 1.3 Ah Automatic line feed: Yes Miscellaneous: Edging wheel User manual: PDF

The AL-KO GTLi 18V Comfort is a strimmer with a spool of line that strims effectively and can cope with extremely tough terrain despite using wire instead of plastic blades. It can even cope with minor undergrowth such as young raspberry bushes and thicker weeds. However, it’s not as effective on wet and tougher grass. It has a useful automatic line feed feature. The line spool lasts for about five medium-tough sessions, mainly consisting of grass trimming, but also with some weeds before it’s time to replace. It comes with an extra spool of line on the strimmer arm and you don’t need tools to replace it. The build quality is generally quite high, although the line wears out rather quickly. The accessories included make this a serious machine. For example, it includes an edging wheel and a metal plant protector instead of the plant protector alone. And it boasts rubberised parts at points where you might hold the machine. The edging wheel makes it easy to go close to other objects without damaging them, as the machine runs around them instead. Some of our testers found the GTLi 18V Comfort to be heavy. They also quite quickly developed sore hands and wrists, which we suspect is the result of too much resistance in the handle. But we can’t complain about the noise profile.

However, the cutting time isn’t good, being slightly under average, and we’d have liked a few more minutes out of it. This is an extremely important aspect, so our score drops a bit. Another major disadvantage is that the battery doesn’t have an indicator. However, the charger is small so you can easily store it away when not in use, and the plug has an indicator light that shines green when the battery is fully charged. Overall this is a reasonable tool which would have had a much better score with a longer battery life.

12. Stihl FSA 45

Compact, high-performance but not very user-friendly strimmer

Power source: Battery Battery: 18V Dimensions: 110 mm Weight: 2. 3 kg Measured battery life: 17 minutes Measured noise level: 76.9 dB Charging time: 210 min Cutting mechanism: Plastic blades (can also use line spool) Battery capacity: 2.0 Ah Automatic line feed: No User manual: PDF

The Stihl FSA 45 is one of the strong trimmers with blades (double plastic) in the head, which clear both grass and tough weeds very effectively. You can easily replace the plastic blades by unclipping them from the strimmer head and clicking in new ones. It includes a couple of extra blades, which are tidily attached to the machine. You don’t get many, but on the other hand, they’re very tough and you only need to change them every four or five sessions. You can also install a spool of line instead of plastic blades if you wish. Assembly of the strimmer itself is straightforward and only requires two screws. However, the battery is built in and you can’t disconnect it for charging – instead you have to plug in the entire strimmer. Nor can you change batteries with other products from the same manufacturer or swap between two batteries so that you can quickly get back to work. The FSA 45 is special in another way, in that it includes a small plastic “key” that has to be inserted into the machine before it will start.

The FSA 45 is a neat strimmer in terms of size, and feels well-balanced and light when you hold it. Ergonomically, the user-friendliness is admirable. However, when it comes to actually cutting the grass, it’s considerably less easy to use. This is largely because you have to slide a button forwards while at the same time holding in another button and handle to start the machine. Not to forget that it comes completely to a stop every time it runs into too much resistance. In other words, you can’t simply lift the strimmer head to get it started again. This means that you have to do the starting hand movement over and over again during one trimming session. This rapidly tires out both hands and wrist and can lead to cramp. Because it has a key that you can pull out as a safety function, we think that this is unnecessarily fussy. The battery life is good, and it runs at full speed during the entire session. The machine is also superbly quiet.

13. Bosch AdvancedGrassCut 36

Easily adjusted strimmer for simpler areas

Power source: Battery Voltage: 36 V Weight: 4.1 kg Measured battery life: 17 minutes Charging time: 70 min Cutting mechanism: Line and spool Battery capacity: 2. 5 Ah Automatic line feed: Yes Miscellaneous: 30 cm trim circle diameter with two line system

The Bosch AdvancedGrassCut 36 is a strimmer that maintains a quiet noise profile and can cope with normal amounts of vegetation in a time-efficient manner. This strimmer easily removes long dry grass in a short time. The same applies to weeds such as young raspberry canes and sparse nettles. But for a 36-volt machine we would have expected better performance. It’s immediately obvious that it has to struggle where the grass is more dense and greener. Particularly if it’s a bit damp. This makes the noise more obvious. After a while, it starts to get stuck in the grass rather than chopping it off, which makes it jerk irritatingly. However, the cutting time is reasonable, and the line reel lasts for a long time, even though the machine tends to feed out more line too easily on some occasions.

In terms of design, the Bosch AdvancedGrassCut 36 is stable but somewhat unwieldy. For example, it feels rather chunky and front-heavy. We would have liked it to include a harness. At the same time, we didn’t encounter any loose parts or strange noises. The strimmer is easy to assemble, and equally easy to adjust. However, the throttle in the handle is unnecessarily large and overly stiff. And it also runs slowly if you don’t keep it completely depressed. This function is probably intended as a kind of environmental function that allows you to run the machine more economically at a lower speed, but we’d have preferred this to be controlled via a button instead. The function means that when you’ve run the strimmer for a while and have lost a bit of force in your hand without noticing, the motor will slow down and give you a worse cutting result. Just like in tougher vegetation, the result is that it can’t cope with cutting the grass properly, getting stuck instead. But the AdvancedGrassCut 36 is otherwise a perfectly acceptable strimmer option. If you have good grip strength and a garden where weeds and grass aren’t too dense, this is an ideal strimmer.

14. Stihl FSA 56

Lightweight strimmer with power for smaller gardens

Power source: Battery Voltage: 36 V Measured battery life: 11.21 min Measured noise level: 86.1 dB Cutting mechanism: Line and spool Battery capacity: 2.0 Ah Automatic line feed: Yes Miscellaneous: 28 cm trim circle diameter with two line system

The Stihl FSA 56 is a neat but also relatively powerful strimmer that’s easy to carry. At the same time, it feels sturdy and stable. This lightweight strimmer can cope with thick tufts and has no problems taking on tall grass. It’s time-efficient on larger grass surfaces because you don’t need to go over the same area several times – at least not as long as the terrain is not problematic. If the grass is very dense, however, the strimmer isn’t quite so effective. It finds it difficult to deal with thickets of raspberries or nettles. It manages – but you’ll have to go over them several times. But the FSA 56 copes with individual tufts of weeds very well. Unfortunately, you can’t reduce the strength on easier terrain to save on the battery, which we think this strimmer could do with. The battery life is the FSA 56’s main issue, and is shorter than what we think is acceptable. So, to get a more reasonable cutting time, you need to buy an additional battery, which unfortunately drives up the price, particularly as Stihl’s batteries are quite expensive. You can see how much charge there is by pressing on a button on the battery. The range runs from 1-4.

The strimmer line feeds out smoothly when you press the strimmer head on the ground. But the line isn’t particularly tough, so it wears out quickly. The shaft and handle are both adjustable, which makes it easy to find a suitable working angle for both shorter and taller users. This reduces strain as you use the strimmer. Nor did we feel like this machine needed a harness. On the other hand, we weren’t using it for very long as the battery life is too short. The FSA 56 has grip-friendly surfaces, but unfortunately it also has quite a lot of vibration for an electric strimmer. The noise level is above average but not particularly loud. The noise profile is a little unpleasant, but not so much that it will drive you up the garden wall. Overall, the Stihl FSA 56 is a relatively powerful and a lightweight strimmer which is suitable for smaller areas.

Strimmer

A strimmer is a useful piece of garden kit for the spring and summer when the grass grows most. It makes an excellent complement to a push, ride-on or robotic lawn mower. Lawn mowers rarely get right up against the edges of flowerbeds, fences, or into stony areas. That’s when you pull out an edge trimmer to tidy up.

A number of different types of strimmer are available. They can boast a range of strimmer tools, together with different power sources (battery or mains). Historically, strimmers were petrol driven, but now the best battery strimmers have taken over the market. You can choose between line spool or garden strimmers with blade cutting performance. There are also models where you can use both types on the same machine. Plastic blades are useful if you have slightly coarser grass and weeds as they can cope with these tougher jobs and don’t wear out as quickly. But a strimmer wire line is useful for efficiently clearing large areas because you can adjust the length of the line. However, if you pull it out too far it will quickly snap off. The advantages of a battery powered strimmer over mains power is that you don’t have to deal with extension cables. On the other hand, you have to recharge it regularly. So it’s important to choose a model with a short charging time and sufficiently long cutting time, bearing in mind your budget and your garden’s strimming needs. Mains powered machines can be handy if you have a smaller garden or only need to clear areas close to your home; then you don’t have to worry about the operating time. But even in this instance the best alternative is arguably to buy a battery powered machine with a slightly smaller battery.

You can also buy brushcutters. The difference between these two garden tools is that a brushcutter is primarily intended for removing undergrowth or even small trees. However, the majority of them can be equipped with line spools and used for strimming grass. The price for a brushcutter is significantly higher than for a dedicated strimmer, which is only intended for trimming grass and removing minor weeds. A brushcutter is petrol operated and, confusingly, is also often called a strimmer. The advantage of using the best petrol machines is that you can quickly get going again when the fuel runs out (no charge time!). And the disadvantages are the exhaust, the noise level and the fact that petrol will add to your gardening costs.

Cordless strimmers have rapidly evolved and improved since I first wrote this review in the UK. After testing the Ryobi, Makita, Bosch and the Terratek. I have to say I am a keen advocate of the Makita. It performed superbly on thistle, nettles, good old grass trimming, and I even gave it a whack on bramble – though that was pushing it a bit, simply because you need a strimmer with a blade for that, better known as a cordless brush cutter – or a professional petrol strimmer with blade attachment for any volume of heavy duty work. Here’s a little look at us testing the Makita cordless strimmer on some pretty thick nettles:

We are testing the Makita 18V Cordless line trimmer on grass trimming, nettles, thistle, and even a little go on bramble!

PRO TIP FROM TESTING: Cordless strimmers are now not far off as powerful as electric grass trimmers with a power lead. They don’t have the same revs, but what they lose in revs, results in less stress on the strimmer wire, and therefore end up being able to cut equally as powerfully. This in my opinion from extensive professional use, is one of the first tools alongside the cordless brush cutter that I prefer over petrol! You can see a test of what a cordless strimmer will do and just how quick it gets the job done at the link provided. Simply amazing!!

Though with that all said, it’s not a one tool fits all necessarily. What if you just want something lightweight for trimming and fine tuning? If you want a lawn to be jealous of, the two main tools that you are going to need are a great lawnmower and a top strimmer ( I would highly recommend looking at a cordless lawn mower as the batteries will be compatible with your cordless strimmer and save you a fortune!). The most popular type of strimmer these days are cordless models, due in no small part to their sensible cost when compared with petrol strimmers, and manoeuvrability that outshines corded models all day long, you only have to look at my corded electric strimmer tests to see these are chalk and cheese for practicality. Because of their popularity, all of the most well-known names in the garden tool manufacturing world have thrown their hat into the ring, and so, there are a ton of good products out there available at very competitive prices.

So with that overview, let’s get into these tests and reviews of the best cordless strimmers:

1. Makita 18V cordless line trimmer

Makita DUR181Z 18V Body Only Cordless Li-ion Line Trimmer

Buy on Amazon for £74.99

Buy on eBay

Specification: Warranty: yes (1-3 year), Power: 18VCutting Width: 26cm, Speed: 800rpm, Weight: ‎3.1kg

I bought the Makita 18V cordless line trimmer two years ago and as usual not a lot has changed. It doesn’t have to. Makita just produce top quality first time without ever considering sending out a sub par item. The only time Makita in recent history have changed a model sharpish is the cordless chainsaw – to a tooless tightening chain. That is across hundreds of cordless tools. I’ve absolutely hammered mine for the last couple of years on grass, thistle, nettles, and even lightish brush, which it is totally not engineered for, and yet somehow it puts up with it. As you can see I am well sold with this tool but I have got a couple of little niggles to go through with you from these couple of years using and working and testing with this tool. To give you an idea yourself, here’s a quick look at what it can do:

As you can see my main concern is the line feed. It’s a bit pernickety but in line with usability of the other competitors in this review. Re-spooling isn’t particularly difficult either with it being single feed. Talking of line I forgot to mention in the video the line is 2mm so it’s no full heavy duty but as you see takes down a good few nettles. We did have to lengthen the line half a dozen times over that span of nettles – a small price to pay for not changing tool!

What I wrote then when I hadn’t tested it long:

Makita is well-known for being a brand that produces some of the most reliable and practical power tools you can buy and is a firm favourite of tradesmen nationwide. So, it should come as no real surprise that their cordless strimmer is topping our list here today especially after giving this a good go.

The Makita cordless grass strimmer can be found on Amazon at the time of writing for a bit more money than the Ryobi which I feel is it’s direct competitor in this review. However, this price is for the body of the tool only and doesn’t include the battery. When you consider that a Makita battery can set you back anything from £50 to £100 pounds including a charger, the overall cost of this tool increases quite substantially, but if you look into this range, there are hundreds of tools and they are all compatible with the battery so the bare tool becomes a steal.

The Makita grass strimmer comes with an easily adjustable telescopic shaft. The secondary handle is also adjustable to assist with comfort. The battery placement under the handle creates a well-balanced product making it easier to hold and therefore finding yourself less fatigued on the larger garden works. This is also helped by the strimmer weighing 3.1 kgs with the battery installed, which is easily manageable by most people.

The head of the Makita is pivoting and can be transitioned into 5 different positions making it easier to cut those awkward, tight, and often annoying areas of the lawn. Another great feature of this garden strimmer is being able to convert the strimmer into an edger, by simply rotating the head 180 degrees, giving you a second tool to create professionally cut edges around your garden.

The head and handle of the Makita 18V cordless line trimmer easily change angle making uneven ground easier

While the cost might put some bargain hunters off a little, I do have to stress that this tool is definitely worth paying the extra for. It is simply a cut above when it comes to build quality, durability, and robustness, with everything just feeling more solid and better put together when compared with cheaper cordless strimmers. There are little details too, like the end cap of the spool being made from metal instead of plastic, and in a bump feed design like this, that will no doubt prolong the working life of the tool. And that’s now been proven with two years of daily use – nothing is broken – it’s as good as new and the engine still feels tight. Talking of which:

Delivering cutting speeds of 7800RPM, the Makita cordless line trimmer is certainly no slouch and will cut through really thick grass and weeds with relative ease, and the excellent motor never sounds or feels like it is being overworked or laboured. If you haven’t already watched the video it’s worth a look.

On a fully charged battery, you get around 30 minutes of continuous use. That might not sound a lot, but with the excellent cutting performance of the tool, it should be more than enough time to trim off the edges of your garden path, patio, etc. Makita batteries are well-known for charging quickly anyway, and it’ll only take another half an hour in the charging dock before you can go again.

2. Ryobi One+ cordless strimmer

Ryobi OLT1832 ONE+ Cordless Grass Trimmer, 25-30cm Path (Zero Tool), 18 V, Hyper Green (Battery, Charger and Blade Not Included)

Buy on Amazon for £65. 00

Buy on eBay

Specification: Warranty: yes (1 year), Power: 18VCutting Width: 25cm or 30cm, Weight: ‎2.3kg

The Ryobi ONE+ battery system is extremely handy when you already have other Ryobi tools in your arsenal. This technology allows all Ryobi products to be powered by the same battery. The Ryobi ONE + system boasts over 100 tools that the battery can be used with. If you already use Ryobi or you are thinking of investing in some other products, then the ONE+ battery system is certainly something to think about before buying.

The cutting power of the Ryobi grass trimmer is excellent, it does a great job cutting through grass and weeds with decent power .While under operation, the vibration of the Ryobi garden strimmer was measurable, but not anything to worry about if you aren’t going to use the strimmer for commercial jobs, for tinkering about at home it’s a solid pick.

The easy edge adjustable head allows for speedy transitions between different trimming angles, so you can get right under those bushes and shrubs to really give your lawn that perfect, professional finish.

The Ryobi One+ cordless strimmer head adjusts easily to help your back stay comfortable

Another great feature was being able to change the cutting width from either 25 cm to 30 cm. On the 25cm setting, you will find that the battery lasts longer, whereas the larger 35mm setting will allow you to get the job done faster. It’s a nice feature, and I’m always happy to have choices of settings like these.

Unlike many petrol-powered strimmers that use bump feed line feeders, the Ryobi cordless model has an automatic feed, and this certainly saves you time on the job that would usually be wasted finding a solid surface to bump out some more line on. This auto-feed is activated through presses of the trigger on the hand controls and is, in my opinion, an excellent feature.

The Ryobi isn’t just a cordless strimmer either. With a simple press of a button found on the shaft, the head rotates and turns into an edging tool. Again, this is an extra feature that I thought was fantastic, and Ryobi is quickly becoming one of my favourite brands for their innovations.

Assembly is easy and straight forwards with this tool and once built, the ergonomic design of the handles and adjustable shaft ensure that this tool is very comfortable to hold for long periods, and its extremely lightweight nature only reinforces this.

Sold as a base unit, with no battery the Ryobi is very affordable, however when you factor in the cost of the battery and charger to be purchased separately, the overall price does increase by a fair old bit, and it is no longer a cheap product, much like the Makita. Even with that being said, I still think this is a top-class cordless strimmer and definitely worth its high place on our list of best products.

3. Einhell GC-CT 18 Li Power X-Change 18V Cordless Strimmer

Einhell GC-CT 18 Li Power X-Change 18V Cordless Strimmer | Battery Powered Garden Grass And Weed Cutter / Edger, Includes 20 x Blades | Solo Trimmer – Battery and Charger Not Included, Red/Black

Buy on Amazon for £44. 99

Einhell GC-CT 18 Li Power X-Change 18V Cordless Strimmer is a decent option if you’re not keen on spending the bigger money on the Makita or the Ryobi, but it is not as powerful and that is from actually comparing and using these two tools side by side. Though if your looking for a tool that is just going to trim grass and lighter weeds then this might well be for you. Before we get into the nuts and bolts of the review, let’s take a look at the performance:

As you can see from the demo video the first thing you will notice if you’ve compared this with the Ryobi, and more notably the Makita, it’s really not as powerful, and the plastic blades are pretty good but I prefer good old line feed. That’s not to say I am right though – god knows how many times I have spent ten minutes re-spooling strimmer line only to find out I’ve put it the wrong way around and it wont feed 😀 – yes you know you’ve done that too 😉 So these plastic rubbery insert blades are actually much easier from that standpoint:

Einhell GC-CT 18 Li Power X-Change 18V Cordless Strimmer blades just clip on – much easier than strimmer line

I have to say I am pretty impressed with it on price, so it’s getting pick as the best budget strimmer for home use:

Einhell GC-CT 18 Li Power X-Change 18V Cordless Strimmer is my pick for the budget strimmer

What you’ve got to accept though, this is going to struggle on nettles and anything hardier than that, the plastic blades don’t like them either. You want to avoid using it too heavily as it’ll start warming up a big more than you’d like.

As with the competitors the angles of the head and base are easy to manoeuvre, and if you’re 5 foot 10 like me, you’ll absolutely find a comfortable position to operate this – I would say almost all heights from 5ft something up to a tall 6ft 3 or 4 inches will enjoy using this strimmer in combination with the variably extending pole.

I’ll re-iterate again, for the lighter work I think this is a great buy! But don’t expect mega powerful performance like the commercial tools we review!

4. Worx WG157E cordless grass strimmer

WORX WG157E 18V (20V Max) Cordless Grass Trimmer, Black

Buy on Amazon for £69.99

Buy on eBay

Specification: Warranty: yes (1 year), Power: 20VCutting Width: 25cm, Weight: ‎2.62kg

The Worx cordless grass trimmer can use interchangeable batteries. This is a bonus if you have already purchased one or more of the many power tools that the Worx brand has to offer, like their excellent portable pressure washers. This garden strimmer is able to use either the brand’s 18 V Lithium-ion battery or the 20 V Lithium-ion battery., which makes finding one to fit, a little easier.

However, both the charging time and the running time could use some improvement as they just can’t compare to the best cordless strimmers on our list. Having said that, this is pretty standard from a lot of budget cordless garden strimmers.

Possibly the best feature on the Worx grass trimmer is the edger tool. This grass trimmer can convert into an edger tool in seconds and its adjustable head can rotate an impressive 180 degrees, allowing for professionally edged and neater gardens.

One noticeable difference with this particular garden strimmer is the use of a single-line cutting system. The single-line auto-feed system makes cutting faster, and the 3m wire spool will automatically release when the strimmer is started, to ensure you have the correct length of wire needed to cut your lawn.

This was great as we often find that banging other strimmers on the ground to thread the wire slightly frustrating and ineffective.  Worx claim that this method helps to improve cutting and create healthier and greener grass. We did not find that the lawn suddenly bursts with life, but we did find that the single wire does work quite well and can handle most thicker grass and weed jobs.

The Worx strimmer ran very quietly and there were also minimal vibrations coming through the adjustable and easy to grip auxiliary handle whilst under operation.

These handles give you a nice grip, and as the weight distribution is rather nice on this strimmer, you’ll find that you can control the tool very easily.

There is a foldable flower guard to protect your beds and prize-winning roses, and being able to fold the guard actually came in handy when needing to get closer to walled areas.

Available for around 65 pounds with the battery included, this is not a bad budget choice for people with small gardens, it has low vibrations, runs quietly, and is only really let down by the battery life and charging times.

5. Terratek 20V cordless strimmer

Terratek 20V Cordless Strimmer with 2 Batteries & 30 Spare Blades, Telescopic Lightweight Powerful Grass Trimmer, 25cm Cutting Diameter

Buy on Amazon for £76.49

Buy on eBay

Specification: Warranty: yes (2 years), Power: 20V, Cutting Width: 25cm, Weight: ‎2kg

Terratek’s cordless strimmer stands out from the crowd for one very clear reason. Instead of the usual plastic wire cutter, Terratek’s offering instead uses nylon ‘blades’ that simply clip into place. When compared with other products that use spools of wire, I would say that the cutting performance is more or less the same. However, if you compare how easy it is to change the blades to a spool of wire, the Terratek wins easily.

These nylon blades won’t last forever either, but you do get plenty of spares in the box, and you can buy a set of 20 Terratek brand extras separately, for around a tenner. If you want to go with a different brand’s blades that will still fit this strimmer, you can probably get 50 blades for around the same price.

Priced at around 95 pounds at the time of writing this review, the Terratek cordless strimmer is actually very good value for money when you consider that you get not one, but two 20V batteries thrown in for the price. When more and more companies are charging you extra for their batteries and selling them separately, it’s nice to see them included with the strimmer.

On a full charge, one 20V battery will give you about 40 minutes of continuous working time, and then you can simply swap for the second battery while the first one recharges. Not that you should need to use two batteries, unless you either live in a jungle, or a stately home, as this product has plenty of cutting power and can reach speeds of 8000rpm, more than enough to slice through thick vegetation.

Other impressive features of the Terrtek include a 180 degree rotating head with a built-in flower guard and 25cm cutting diameter, a length-adjustable shaft that is easy to operate, and a very lightweight design with comfortable handles.

Like the Ryobi, I applaud Terratek for their innovations, and I would definitely say I prefer these clip-on nylon blades to the wire cutter type, if only for the practicality and quick changes. At the current price, with two batteries included, it is an excellent deal and one you would be wise to take advantage of.

6. Von Haus 20V cordless strimmer

VonHaus Cordless Grass Trimmer with 20V MAX Battery, Charger & 12 x Plastic Blades Included – 180° Adjustable Head, 25cm Cutting Path & Telescopic Handle – Li-Ion G Range

Buy on Amazon for £64. 99

Specification: Warranty: yes (2 years), Power: 20V, Cutting Width: 25cm, Weight: 2.75kg

The VonHaus Grass strimmer is a 20 V maximum Lithium-Ion powered cordless power tool that is capable of cutting at speeds comparable to the Makita. We found this very impressive considering this strimmer is at the lower end of the price range

The batteries are included in the price, along with a charger, and are compatible with all other VonHaus cordless products. The charge time of the battery was about 1 hour and this is extremely good, and something that did not go unnoticed.

The grass strimmer has a cutting width of 25 cm and can cut through both grass and weeds with no trouble at all. The VonHaus strimmer is not equipped with the commonly used strimmer line but the same revolutionary blade system as the Terratek model. The product comes with ten replaceable blades, and we found that the blades do last, but again, we didn’t think that they cut any better or worse than the strimmers that use nylon wire.

I will say this about the nylon blades, and this goes for both this product and the Terratek model, they did break quite easily if they mistakenly came into contact with a hard edge of brickwork or a path. Although this didn’t happen often, it is still something you have to be quite careful about or you’ll quickly find yourself ordering replacement blades.

The strimmer comes with what VonHaus call a safety guard however this was extremely annoying and repeatedly came off. Now, I thought that this was just the model that I was testing, but I’ve heard feedback from some of our customers that have said the same thing, while others have had no problems, so I think it is a quality control issue.

The strimmer comes with a telescopic handle and is quick to use and adjust, making it easy to find a more comfortable setting for longer gardening sessions. The head can convert into an edging tool too, just like the Ryobi cordless sttrimmer, but if I compare the two, I would say the Ryobi does a better job of this.

Both handles on the Von Haus are soft grip and comfortable to hold, and the product is lightweight and very mobile. Even during prolonged use, we found the VonHaus cordless grass strimmer to be low on vibrations and ran rather quietly, I just wish that more care had been taken with a few things during the manufacturing process, as this could have been an excellent product.

As it stands, it is still a good deal for the low price, but it is hit and miss whether or not you get a polished product or one with flaws, and when you compare the quality to a product like the Terratek that isn’t that much more expensive, it comes up a little short.

7. Bosch cordless grass strimmer

Bosch Cordless Grass Trimmer AdvancedGrassCut 36 (without battery, 36 Volt system, in carton packaging)

Specification: Warranty: yes (2 years), Power: 36V, Cutting Width: 30cm, Weight: 2. 9kg

Bosch has always been a powerhouse in this industry, and for good reason. This particular product of theirs is a decent contender for one of the best cordless strimmers in the UK.

The machine has a slightly larger than average 2.6 Ah battery when compared to other 36V contenders, and this of course equates to more time using the strimmer between charges, which is always a good thing.

Possibly one of the best features I have seen on a cordless garden strimmer is the Bosch Syneon Chip, which intelligently controls the amount of energy and power required for each job. This chip is especially useful when coming across an overgrown area and means you can get more out of your battery with each charge without even having to think about it.

The Bosch also has a simple and easy to operate duel speed switch to control the speed and power manually, delivering optimum power and control when cutting. The two-speed trigger can maintain speeds from 7600 – 8300 RPM, pretty impressive stuff.

With a 30cm cutting width, and plant of power from the efficient motor, you’ll have no problems clearing the edges of your patio, path, and lawn, no matter how overgrown it’s gotten over winter.

The Bosch grass strimmer is very easy to assemble and caused us no trouble with setup and we were ready to start cutting in no time at all. For once, the instructions supplied were easy to follow, but to be honest, they weren’t really needed as everything is all very straightforward and easy to figure out.

The ergonomic auxiliary handle is adjustable and comfortable to hold, and this plays a big part in making the 5 kgs weight balance out well. Even so, it still feels heavy when compared to many of our other featured products, and this was one problem we came up against when trying to tackle larger areas. Although the device is great at cutting and the battery life is excellent, it was our own energy levels that deteriorated, so we would advise the use of a harness if you’re going to opt for the Bosch.

You can expect to pay in the region of £215 complete with battery and charger, or alternatively around £140 or so without them, and this is maybe a hefty price for someone who is only going to use the strimmer in a smaller well-maintained garden. There is an option to buy without the battery and charger, but this would only work if you already have Bosch power tools with the same 2.6Ah battery, and this fact, plus the heaviness of the tool, is what has kept this otherwise excellent strimmer from ranking higher on our list.

8. Black & Decker 36V cordless strimmer

BLACK+DECKER GLC3630L20 36 V Lithium-Ion Strimmer with 2.0 Ah Battery, Orange

Buy on Amazon for £151.95

Specification: Warranty: yes (1 year), Power: 36VCutting Width: 30cm, Weight: ‎3.5kg

After receiving some excellent feedback from customers regarding the Black & Decker cordless strimmer, we decided to put it to the test for ourselves, and we weren’t disappointed.

The Black and Decker features the brand’s E-drive technology, which produces high torque and this helps it to power through the toughest overgrown areas quickly, and without clogging or slowing you down. This is helped along by Black and Decker’s plastic strimmer blades that can reach speeds similar to the top Ryobi and Makita versions.

The Black and Decker has a 30 cm cutting width which is ideal for larger gardens. The strimmer is also surprisingly versatile and can actually be converted into an edging tool by simply turning the head of the tool around. It’s quick and easy to do and works like a charm.

This cordless grass strimmer is powered by a 36 V 2.0 Ah Lithium-Ion battery which boasts up to 3750 linear meters of cutting power in just one charge. So, forget about having to wait around for the light on the charging station to turn green so you can finish up the lawn, with the Black & Decker, you can get it done in one go.

Another feature we liked on the Black & Decker strimmer is the different power modes. You can choose from either the ECO mode for the lighter duties, and this will save battery power, or simply switch to turbo mode to tackle the thicker more heavy-duty tasks, but obviously at the cost of running time. Actually, we found that the turbo mode used considerably more battery than ECO mode which was disappointing, but the battery has a quick charge time, so we weren’t really phased by this.

Weighing only 3.5 kilograms the lightweight and comfortable design of this tool is perfect for either commercial or home use, and the telescopic handle allows the user to adjust the height of the strimmer to suit them with ease.

The secondary handle allows the weight to be distributed evenly and the primary handle is fitted with a rubber, over-molded, non-slip grip that gives the user full control and comfort, and both do a great job of reducing what little vibrations are made by the strimmer while it’s cutting away those weeds.

Overall the Black and Decker is a solid choice for a strimmer it can give the user comfort and speed to do even the toughest jobs. What’s more, it does it extremely quiet too when compared to some of its competitors, and even if you don’t use a cordless strimmer on a daily basis, this rechargeable cordless strimmer’s battery can hold a charge for up to 18 months whilst idle.

What is a cordless strimmer?

Cordless grass strimmers are outdoor power tools that use rotating plastic blades to cut through grass and weeds to keep green areas well kept. Although not as powerful as petrol strimmers, they are a lot better for the environment and have advantages over a standard corded electric strimmer, like the fact that they run off lithium-ion batteries, and this gives you more range and freedom of movement.

Most cordless strimmers use nylon to cut and this is sometimes referred to as the ‘line’ or in some cases ‘trimmer line’, although some of the latest models have steered away from this and have instead started using easy to change nylon blades, which I personally prefer.

The replaceable nylon wire can be used to cut entire gardens but I wouldn’t recommend it, and this is a job better suited to a lawnmower. Strimmers are best used for trimming the edges of a lawn, or keeping pathways and brickwork free from weeds ( you can also use weed killer products for this task). Some Strimmers come as a single-line cutter or a duel line cutter. We found that both styles are equally sufficient, and will certainly save you time and labour when compared to using just a pair of garden shears.

Best cordless Strimmer Buyers’ Guide

Comparing cordless strimmers to petrol and corded strimmers. Which type of strimmer should I buy?

There are three types of strimmers, petrol strimmers, electric corded strimmers, and battery-powered cordless strimmers, and there are indeed pros and cons to all. However, the battery-powered, cordless grass strimmers are now the most commonly used garden strimmers in the UK.

This is for a number of reasons, not only are they lightweight and easy to handle but they are noticeably quieter when compared to petrol strimmers, they also don’t emit harmful exhaust fumes, which is a bonus if you don’t want to annoy the neighbours or even if you are going to be using one all day. Not to mention the petrol strimmers are often a lot heavier than electric and cordless models and more often than not require the use of a harness.

More importantly, though, choosing a cordless strimmer will have less of an environmental impact. Plus, with today’s lithium technology, they can now match the run time of their petrol-driven competitors. Of course, another bonus of not using a petrol strimmer is not having to take extra jerry cans of fuel to work sites, or even storing fuel at home. This means no spillages and no trips to refill either.

So, could a corded electric strimmer be an option then? But what about trying to find a power socket down the far end of a large garden? Even if it is possible, it’s not ideal to have the window open with the wire hanging out when making all that noise. Corded strimmers are also not the most ideal tool when working on large areas. Being governed by the length of the wire and being tangled up by connecting extension cords, can simply be avoided by taking advantage of cordless rechargeable strimmers.
With so many cordless garden strimmers for sale and so many brands on the market which are the best to buy? There are top brands such as, Black& Decker, Bosch, Makita, and Flymo which all have a huge range of power tools and garden equipment, but are their cordless strimmers are any good? Read our reviews above to find the answer to this.

What do I need my cordless strimmer for?

Knowing exactly what you are going to be using a cordless strimmer for is important. The reasoning behind this is, you shouldn’t be thinking about spending hundreds of pounds on a commercial use garden strimmer if you are only going to be tending to a small pathway with a few strands of grass poking out.

Try to work out the size of the area or areas you are going to be working on. Will you be needing to help a friend or family member with a particularly large garden? If so, you might want to think about investing in a grass strimmer with a larger cutting width, and the battery life is another important factor to be considered.

Will you be cutting back thick grass and tough weeds in overgrown areas or just tidying up your already neat well-groomed garden? You will most certainly need a more powerful machine if you are going to be tackling the more heavy-duty work.

Do you stress about the professionalism of your lawn edges? If so, a strimmer that converts into an edging tool like the Ryobi model we reviewed earlier, could be worth looking into further.

So, there you have it, the rundown of the best cordless strimmers reviewed. We can safely say that we enjoyed using all the cordless strimmers and we would urge you to check out our other reviews on both corded and petrol strimmers if you are still not convinced about the benefits of using rechargeable cordless strimmers.

Streaming Computers | Useful tips MultiMart.by

The emergence of services such as TwitchTV on the network marked the beginning of a new era for gamers – streams. Streams, or broadcasting video from a computer monitor through a server in real time, have literally taken over the Internet space. Already at the beginning of 2018, the number of TwichTV streamers reached 2 million, and the number of their viewers reached 15 million people. Now gamers can not only play their favorite games, but also make reviews on them, demonstrate the gameplay to the whole world, and also monetize the created content.

Just imagine: high FPS, detailed picture without annoying delays, minimal lag, fast bitrate – without this, it is simply impossible to become a popular streamer, and a high-performance computer plays an important role in the quality of an online broadcast. The specialists of the MultiMart online store will tell you about which PC is better to choose for a quality stream and what to look for when choosing hardware.

It is a mistake to assume that a good broadcast requires only a high-speed Internet channel (although a good router and reliable Internet service provider play an important role). A large amount of memory, a powerful processor, a good video card from the right manufacturer – these are the “three pillars” on which a streaming PC stands.

Unlike recording content on YouTube, when the information is first received on the SSD, then it can be edited and encoded at a convenient pace, and the video can be uploaded to the hosting at any time, the computer performs all these actions simultaneously during streaming. If its processor does not have time to record, encode and upload information, this will inevitably cause a deterioration in the quality of the broadcast, splitting the image into pixels, and lags. That is why a successful streamer needs a specialized PC, all the components of which are “sharpened” for real-time gaming broadcasts.

What should be the processor

Processor power is required not only by the game itself, but also by video encoding, so in order to reduce the load on the CPU, you need to use hardware rather than software encoding, which can significantly “drain” FPS. For high-definition broadcasts (1080p and above), it’s best to have a PC with a quad- or octa-core processor. Streams heavily load the processor, and since its performance and performance are largely dependent on the clock frequency and the number of cores, the higher both of these indicators, the better.

The choice of one or another processor for a computer largely depends on what toys you are going to stream. So, for indie games that are not demanding on hardware, for example, the Intel Pentium Gold G5400 is suitable, thanks to which the world can see a picture with a resolution of 1080p. If you plan to review the latest AAA toys, then you need a more powerful CPU, for example, an Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 – their power is more than enough to review modern new products on the day of release.

We recommend processors from Intel because they performed well in online broadcasts compared to AMD counterparts. In addition, it is known that computers of well-known streamers, such as SHROUD and Dr. Disrespect, and their broadcasts are always of impeccable quality.

Ideal graphics card for streaming

The importance of a graphics card for a PC is largely determined by the games you are going to stream. So, for some undemanding games, it is completely optional – a graphics chip built into the CPU is quite enough. Please note that video cards from different manufacturers offer hardware encoding methods, which can vary significantly. NVIDIA models are considered the undisputed leader in this area.

The options for choosing a video card for a streamer PC are approximately the following:

  • For non-demanding games with low graphics settings, such as League of Legend, a card with 2 GB of memory, such as the GTX 1050, will do.
  • For more powerful FHD gaming or budget streaming at 1440p, a graphics card with 6 GB of memory is suitable.
  • For demanding modern AAA games, it is better to pay attention to a PC with a top-end graphics card, such as the GeForce GTX 1080. This model will allow you to forget about brakes and delays that can “cut” a significant part of your audience. In addition, top-end graphics cards are also good because they can provide excellent overclocking and power enough for games at maximum settings, and the ability to connect multiple monitors to it at once will make your stream really interesting.

How much memory is needed for a quality stream

As a rule, during the broadcast, in addition to the game, a lot of other windows (donations, chats, etc.) are displayed on the monitor. In order for the broadcast to not freeze during such multitasking, a large amount of RAM is required. So, in 2019, a modern streaming PC should have at least 16 GB of DDR4 memory in its arsenal. The golden rule applies here – the more, the better. Therefore, if you want to broadcast an online team game and simultaneously communicate via Skype without delay, make sure that there is enough RAM in your PC.

Cooling system

A silent cooling system seems like an insignificant factor when choosing a streaming PC only at first glance. Live streaming involves live interaction with viewers, and chassis rattle and noise from running fans can reduce your viewership. That is why these elements should be as silent as possible.

Game models differ from office chairs primarily in ergonomics. Almost all of them are necessarily equipped with a headrest, and also have a so-called lumbar cushion. Game sessions are usually shorter than work sessions, but there is often simply no time and opportunity to swing or get up to warm up. So, the maximum back support and the shape closest to the anatomical shape are mandatory attributes of almost any specialized gaming chair.

Such models are in demand not only among professional gamers, but also among amateurs for whom PC games are just a hobby and they want to get maximum pleasure from them and keep their back healthy.

We have studied the opinions of customers, the characteristics of the products offered and correlated affordable prices with them. From the results obtained, we came up with the following ranking of the best gaming chairs for today.

Editor’s Choice

DXRacer Formula OH/FD99

DXRacer Formula OH/FD99. Photo: DXRacer

This gaming chair can already be classified as a premium gaming chair. It is completed with lumbar and neck supports (in the form of pillows). The model can be fully customized, and the anatomical shape will allow your back to easily cope with the difficulties of a gamer’s everyday life. The neck section is equipped with two ventilation holes, however, many buyers note that the back still sweats, especially in hot weather. There are no complaints about the assembly – nothing plays, does not creak, everything works as it should work.

It can be hot in the chair, relatively high price

CP top 17 rating

1. Woodville Kano

Woodville Kano. Photo: yandex.market.ru

The gaming chair is equipped with a rocking mechanism and two pillows – for the lumbar and cervical. Pillows will help you reduce the load on your back, and on the back of this model you can lean back 180 degrees. At the same time, the angle of inclination of the backrest can be adjusted using the latch in the chair.

The armrests can be adjusted in angle and height to suit any chair inclination. The icing on the cake is the footstool.

If you are looking for furniture and appliances based on color, Woodville Kano is a good choice as it comes in three colors: black and white, black and blue, and black and red. The upholstery is made of eco-leather.

The main advantage of the selected model is that the upholstery on the seat and back is made of mesh fabric, thanks to which your skin will breathe, and in hot weather you will not stick to it. Do you have pets? This gaming chair will be completely safe, because your pet will have it “out of the claws”.

Pros and cons

High back with 180 degree recline, soft cushions, soft and high quality upholstery, fully adjustable seat

Complicated assembly, tight rocking mechanism and footrest latches

2. ThunderX3 EC3

ThunderX3 EC3. Photo: Thunder

The ThunderX3 EC3 gaming chair has several color options, a stylish and rather aggressive minimalist design. It can be attributed to the middle price segment, while it boasts a function that is typical for more expensive models – you can adjust the rigidity of the rocking mechanism. This is especially important when you spend a lot of time sitting, without the opportunity to tear yourself away from the monitor. It is also worth noting that you can recline 180 degrees on it – almost lie down, which will allow you to relax and unwind even during the most intense skating rink.

You can adjust the rocking stiffness, you can lean back 180 degrees and relax, the chair frame is made of metal and covered with plastic

There are some complaints about the build quality (the armrests play), it may turn out to be too narrow, there is no fine adjustment of the armrests

3.

Defender Pilot

Defender Pilot. Photo: yandex.market.ru

This gaming chair has several important advantages. The main ones are upholstered soft armrests and a deep seat, thanks to which maximum comfort is achieved. Another nice bonus is the presence of a footrest and two pillows for the cervical and lumbar.

The armchair is equipped with a rocking mechanism and the backrest can be reclined by 135 degrees. The frame material is made of metal, which means that the chair will last you not a year or two. The upholstery material is completely made of eco-leather, while there is no breathable mesh on top. Such material is dependent on weather conditions, in hot weather you will sweat, in cold weather you will freeze. But on the other hand, you can easily get rid of dirt or spilled soda with just a wave of a rag.

Features

Hard seat, armrests based on unreliable plastic, only one design option

4. Everprof Lotus S11

Everprof Lotus S11. Photo: yandex.market.ru

This model has a swing mechanism and the ability to fix its rigidity. Comes with head and lumbar cushions that are easy to adjust and detach. The chair has a very attractive design, but there is only one color option – red and black with white trim. Rubberized soft and high-quality wheels do not make noise and do not scratch the parquet.

But be careful, if you are overweight, then this model may not suit you due to the presence of narrow lateral supports. This chair handles spilled drinks with easy cleaning, because it’s made of leatherette. However, along with this, due to the material chosen, you may encounter a number of problems. In the heat, such material will stick to the body. If you have pets, they will make a scratching post out of it. In addition, over time, leatherette begins to crumble at all.

Pros and cons

Sturdy metal frame, soft and adjustable cushions, reclining backrest, rubberized wheels, easy to clean

5.

ASUS ROG Chariot Core Gaming Chair

ASUS ROG Chariot Core Gaming Chair. Photo: ASUS

Premium gaming chair from giant Asus. ROG is their brand line, which features the company’s best and most expensive products. The design of the branded line of premium products is, as always, on top. The color palette, the angles of the cuts and the shape of the parts – it looks chic. You can adjust anything on this chair, and for increased comfort it is equipped with a lumbar pillow with a memory effect. Its swing mechanism is specific – only the back is movable. If you are not going to save money, then this is a great option from a reputable top brand.

Pros and cons

Lumbar support with memory effect included, high build quality

Swing mechanism for an amateur, high price

6. ZONE 51 Gravity

ZONE 51 Gravity. Photo: yandex.market.ru

Model with an orthopedic design, which has a positive effect on the health of the back for a long stay at the computer. It has a swing mechanism, and the backrest can recline up to 180 degrees.

The chair does not creak even after several years of operation. The back of the chair is wide, the material and seams are of high quality. The upholstery has eco-leather inserts, not leatherette. The advantage of eco-leather is easy cleaning, but at the same time this material is much stronger than leatherette, and does not crumble after a long time of use. Other rocker mechanism, gas lift, metal cross, rubberized wheels pillow, wheels do not move well, lateral supports are designed for people of average build

7. Everprof Forsage play

Everprof Forsage play. Photo: Everprof

Budget chair in a good performance. But for the build quality and low price, I had to pay with functionality. In this model, there are practically no adjustments, only the landing height. There is no separate headrest, its role is played by an elongated back, but there are holes for ventilation. The design is not bad, considering the price, but compared to more expensive competitors, the chair looks frankly cheap.

8. ThunderX3 TC3

ThunderX3 TC3. Photo: yandex.market.ru

This model has a rocking mechanism. The back of the chair can recline all 180 degrees, but the model does not have the ability to fix the position of the back.

The chair has back supports and a seat. Usually, the presence of supports can be the main drawback of the chair, because due to the small width, there are many restrictions on the physique to its owner. But in this case, they are designed in such a way that they do not restrict the freedom of movement for the legs and pinch the body.

The material of the cross is made of soft and durable nylon. It is resistant to high temperatures, while being less prone to mechanical damage and corrosion.

The main feature of the armchair is a wide choice of colors: there are multi-color models, and there are also plain ones.

9.

DXRacer Drifting OH/DJ133

DXRacer Drifting OH/DJ133. Photo: DXRacer

This high-end gaming chair is made of eco-leather and looks solid. Looking at it, one can imagine that the big boss from American films sits in it. With all this, it provides for the configuration of some nodes, thanks to which you can customize it for yourself. Strangely, the claimed maximum weight it can support is 113 kg, while the gold standard of the market is 120 kg. Perhaps this is due to the regional weight measures of the manufacturing country. The lack of an adjustable headrest also raises questions. The tight style may not appeal to every gamer, and fit adjustment is limited.

10. Chairman GAME 16

Chairman GAME 16. Photo: yandex.market.ru

The upholstery of the chair is made of textile and eco-leather, thanks to which the chair has a presentable appearance that will last for a long time. The model has upholstered soft armrests, which will provide comfort to your elbows. The rubberized wheels will allow you to move quietly on the chair and will not spoil the floor.

The armchair has eight color options: the most famous are white-orange and black-blue. The cross, however, is made of plastic. For this reason, with inaccurate use or a load of the seat more than the allowable 120 kg, it will crack, and may even break. It is worth paying attention to the frame of the chair, for which not the most reliable materials made of plastic and plywood were used.

Pros and cons

Low price compared to the rest of the quality range, easy assembly, easy chair with orthopedic properties, quality and practical upholstery material, rubberized wheels and padded armrests

unreliable in case of not the best operation, also fragile frame material made of plywood and plastic

11. AKRACING Premium

AKRACING Premium. Photo: AKRACING

High end gaming chair. The appearance of the model on the “C grade”. If you are not told about the gaming purpose of the chair, then you are unlikely to guess what is in front of you. Given its cost, there is not enough adjustment for the angle of inclination of the armrests and the headrest, which is fixed in the chair. The ergonomics of the chair also raises questions. It is stated that it can withstand up to 150 kg, while the seat is quite narrow, and the sides are rigid. The minimum seating height is 50 cm, which immediately makes the chair not the most obvious choice for short gamers.

Pros and cons

Can be reclined 180 degrees, anatomically shaped seat with hard restraints, can handle a heavy gamer

High cost, for the money I would like more flexibility, especially seat height, anatomical seat may not suit some people

12. COUGAR Rampart

COUGAR Rampart. Photo: yandex.market.ru

This model uses a thick rubber coating as a material for the armrests, which is much stronger and softer than plastic armrests. If you are obese, then you are the main contender for the purchase. And all because this chair has the ability to adjust the armrests not only in height and angles, but also in the width between them.

Chair upholstery made of textile and leatherette. Textiles will be an excellent heat fighter for you. However, leatherette inserts may crack after a while. The wheels of the chair are rubberized, so that when moving along the floor, the structure will not scratch it and make noise. The chair is available in two versions: completely black and black with orange.

AeroCool AERO 2 Alpha

AeroCool AERO 2 Alpha. Photo: yandex.market.ru

The main feature of this gaming chair is the ability to withstand heavy weights up to 150 kg. The base of the chair is made of hard plastic. However, the depressing factor is the presence of props. This means that the chair must be checked for convenience when buying, since with a dense physique it may not suit you because of this. Supports are not a reason to refuse a purchase with an obese physique, because the seat of the chair is quite wide, and the backrest differs in width and height. Buyer with high growth and medium build, this chair will fit.

The upholstery of the chair is made primarily of textiles with eco-leather inserts. Of course, it is difficult to wash stains from fabric. But at the same time, you will avoid a lot of troubles that can arise when using leatherette and only eco-leather.

The armchair has a nice sporty design. Available in several colors: full black chair, black and red, and black and blue. There are additional options, but they periodically appear on sale as part of limited series.

Pros and cons

Reclining backrest up to 180 degrees, practical and high-quality upholstery material

Unreliable plastic cross and armrests, poor quality pillow stuffing, frame half made of plywood, no fixation of the position of the chair

14. Bureaucrat Knight N1 Fabric

Bureaucrat Knight N1 Fabric. Photo: yandex.market.ru

This is a soft one-color armchair made in various color palettes (pink, black, gray, beige). The upholstery is completely made of textile, which makes the chair unique in its kind, as it is rare to use a fully textile material. The back of the chair can recline up to 150 degrees and be fixed in a different position that is comfortable for the buyer.

When ordering this model, you should make sure in advance whether the chair is right for you, since the neck pillow is attached only to the upper part of the high back and serves as a restriction for people of short stature. The chair is quite wide, can withstand weight up to 150 kg and is suitable for a buyer with a heavy build, even despite the presence of props.

Characteristics
Upholstery textile
Supports up to 150 kg

The backrest only reclines to 150 degrees, there is no way to individually adjust the chair for yourself, the base of the plywood seat can creak, the lumbar pillow is not attached and is not adjustable

15. Zombie DRIVER

The chair has a rocking mechanism, and the backrest can recline, but only together with the seat. The model has a nice design and many color options. However, it should be noted that the chair is upholstered in leatherette, because of which it can quickly be demolished and come into an unpresentable look.

If you are looking for a seat for your child or you are small and small, this is the seat for you. For people with tall stature, broad shoulders, or a large physique, the chair will simply be small.

Characteristics
Untrust to leatherette
withstands weight to 120 kg

Adjustment sitting heights, tilting the back, lumbar rush and stiffness of swing
Other Synchronous mechanism of swing, Gazlift, Cross from plastic

16. A4Tech X7 GG-1100

A4Tech X7 GG-1100. Photo: yandex.market.ru

Inexpensive chair made of textiles and eco-leather with a wide range of functions, which only expensive gaming chairs have. There is a synchronous swing mechanism, and the ability to fix the swing stiffness, as well as the backrest in any convenient position. There are two soft and dense pillows – lumbar and cervical.

The frame is made of durable metal. But the cross, however, was saved, it is made of plastic, which requires careful operation. The model does not shine with a color variety, there is only one color option – black and blue. Overall, a relatively robust design with easy assembly. However, not all functions work as well as we would like.

Pros and cons

Easy to assemble, strong wheels and frame, padded seat

Monotonous design, reclining mechanism is ill-conceived and can cause previous difficulties with reclining and fixing in the reclined position

9010 years of leaders .ThunderX3 YC3

A functional chair at the junction of the medium and high price segments. It differs from its competitors by its well-thought-out anatomical shape and a cunning ventilation system. The gaming chair comes with a branded lumbar pillow. The model is available in several colors. It is worth noting that despite the flexible configuration, due to its features, it may not be suitable. Another important feature of this chair is the maximum weight, which is 150 kg. That’s 30kg above the market average and could be a great entry for the massive gamer.

Intelligent ventilation system, heavy weight, 180 degree recline

At this price, I would like to get a rocking mechanism and a neck pillow, unusual design may not suit someone due to anatomy

2. DXRacer Special Edition OH/RE21/NAVI

DXRacer Special Edition OH/RE21/NAVI. Photo: DXRacer

A premium gaming chair, it’s a great choice for the professional gamer, but for the casual gamer, it might be overkill. The set includes lumbar and neck pillows, their height is adjustable. The fine adjustment of the chair and high-quality padding from special foam will allow you to feel maximum comfort during your gaming session. The casters allow the gaming chair to move gently, smoothly and quietly. It is rather not a piece of furniture, but a specialized sports equipment. Its only drawback is the high cost and complexity of setup and operation.

Pros and cons

High build quality, comfort and functionality

Difficult to set up, decent price

How to choose a gaming chair

What is the first thing to check before placing an order with the chosen chair?

Individual adjustment

The first thing to note is the possibility of individual adjustment. This is all the more important if you order a chair without ever testing the model live. Adjustment of chair handles in height, width and angles; reclining backrest with fixation and adjustable pillows – ideally, all this should be present.

Side support problem

Another important point is the side supports. They are carved on the sides of the wall on the seat and back. They are often made in gaming chairs for orthopedic purposes. However, more often than not, supports can, on the contrary, interfere with your comfort, restricting the movement of your legs or not coming up on your back. Lateral supports are not something that can be adjusted. In the absence of lateral supports, you are more likely to find a suitable chair. If available, you should carefully check how wide the seat of the chair and the back are, whether they will press due to an ill-conceived design and check with your feelings.

Backrest height and seat width

One more problem follows from the problem of lateral supports – backrest height and seat width, which, even without lateral supports, can become an enemy to your comfort. So, landing in a chair should be free. You should pay attention to how optimal for you the width of the seat of the selected chair and the distance of the armrests from each other. The height of the backrest and headrest attachment must match your height.

Upholstery materials

Typically, leatherette, eco-leather, textiles and mesh fabric are used as upholstery materials for gaming chairs. Let’s take a look at what features they have.

In the case of leatherette and eco-leather , the main advantages will be a presentable appearance of the chair and easy cleaning, because it is impossible to put a stain on such an armchair. However, with this choice, you run the risk of encountering many disadvantages. This material gets very hot in the sun. Your skin in such a chair will not breathe, which is why you will constantly stick to it, and in hot weather you will also sweat. If you have animals in your house, then you may have the additional problem of turning a beautiful chair into a scratching post.

In addition, leatherette noticeably loses to eco-leather. Leatherette is not durable and begins to deteriorate after a year of use, which cannot be said about eco-leather. It can be safely used for more than 5 years, while the appearance and quality will remain unchanged.

Textile saves us from the trouble of a leather chair, but at the same time delivers new ones. A textile chair is difficult to clean and easy to stain. In addition, it will not be as soft as when choosing the same skin.

Another option is mesh fabric . Mesh fabric is considered the most successful choice and even has a second name – “breathable fabric”. It easily passes moisture, thanks to which it retains comfort in hot and, conversely, cool weather. At the same time, stains do not remain on such fabric. However, this material has a very unfortunate drawback – difficult cleaning. The fact is that dirt gets stuck in the mesh of the fabric. For this reason, they cannot simply be brushed off; a vacuum cleaner is needed.

Structural reliability

Pay attention to what the cross (lower part of the chair) and the frame are made of. The crosspiece for gaming chairs is usually made of metal, nylon, plastic and aluminum.

Plastic is the worst option when choosing a chair. Despite the very light weight and its cheapness, such material is very fragile and breaks easily even under not particularly strong loads.

The aluminum cross has a presentable appearance, able to withstand a lot of weight, while remaining no less light. But less reliable than the same steel and deteriorate quickly.

steel cross can withstand heavy loads and last a long time. However, it is very heavy and if handled carelessly, scratches will remain on the surface, which will affect the appearance.

Nylon cross supports less stress than steel. But it is no less durable, it also serves for a long time, while it is much lighter than a metal cross.

If we talk about the frame, then gaming chairs usually use either metal or plywood.

Metal construction is the best solution. It is reliable, withstands heavy loads and lasts a long time. Over time, of course, it is subject to mechanical breakdowns. However, it is the most durable material of all possible.

The same cannot be said for plywood . The only advantage of such a frame is its cheapness. It can be quite durable, but under heavy loads and after some time it will begin to creak. Add to this the lack of resistance to moisture, due to which the chair can quickly become unusable and break.

Frequently asked questions and answers

Gennady Naumov, Sales Consultant at Officemag :

How does a gaming chair differ from an office chair?

First of all, the form. Gaming chairs are bigger and more comfortable. You can sit in them for longer without getting tired, thanks to thoughtful details. The chairs of the backs of the gaming chairs are most often made orthopedic. Pillows and the presence of side supports are characteristic exclusively of gaming chairs. Their designs are always sporty.

Office ones are usually simpler both in design and material, and in adjustment. They can be adjusted in height, but such functional features as a rocking mechanism, a reclining backrest or adjusting the armrests that gaming chairs usually have are very rare for office chairs.

What is the optimal height and width for a gaming chair?

In fact, everything is very individual and depends more on the convenience of the client. But by standard standards, the optimal back height should be around 80-90 cm, and width 40-50.

Which type of gaming chair headrest should I choose?

In terms of material, eg plastic. It may look less presentable for some, calmer, but much more practical. It will last longer than any other, while being comfortable – indifferent to temperature changes and relatively soft.

If we talk about functionality, then there are folding armrests. They last longer and will not be damaged in emergency situations. In addition, they are practical – you can push the chair under the table with them, for example.

Clients often charge according to the “more adjustments, the better” scheme, but this is not the right decision. Of course, they allow you to individually adjust everything, but their service life is shorter and the adjustment mechanisms themselves often break.

What types of armrests are used in gaming chairs?

Miscellaneous, they can be distinguished by shape and mechanism. There are ordinary ones that are completely fixed. They do not have a mechanism, but they are quite comfortable. There are folding armrests. They resemble the former in shape, but they are held only from the back.

There are more functional ones, with regulation in height, in distance from each other, in corners. This is convenient, you can build it for yourself, but too fancy ones can last less. Usually they are extended in height with support for the elbows at the end.

What are the best upholstery materials for gaming chairs?

It all depends on the preferences of the client. The best option, in my opinion, is the grid. With such material, the body does not sweat, but the chair does not lose its softness. But, unfortunately, with such material it is necessary to follow. The grid is easily clogged with crumbs, and this is a huge minus. It has to be constantly cleaned, and sometimes the crumb can clog so deeply that it will no longer be possible to clean it.

Many customers prefer a leather chair. But it seems to me that this is not the best choice, it is a very demanding material. In cold weather, it is cold to sit in a leather chair, in warm weather, on the contrary, it is hot.

The choice is often made in favor of leatherette, because chairs made of it cost less. But it does not serve for a long time, over time it begins to flake off and crumble.

Dmitry Ivashchenko: PRO WORLD DOMINATION 89 & Freak
89 + freak = ❤

It's very funny to watch how the line-up of 89 is assembled in a matter of minutes, given the fact that Vova did not want to play. And the composition of the freaks, which was "preparing" for the game, again gathered with a delay. Every time the same thing, the start is rejected by 20 minutes - an hour and a half due to a f*cky attitude. You can clearly see the difference between squads and the attitude within them. At 89, everyone respects each other and takes a responsible approach to business, in freaks - everyone puts dick on each other.
The coolest thing is to see how 50% of the top online freaks gave a fuck about Vadya. The same booster that was nobody and nothing without Wadi now prefers to go to Creed, instead of a joint stream with Evelon, who gave him everything he has. (p.s. yes, yes, the booster is an interesting person, but there are hundreds of such personalities in the lower twitch grid, where no one reaches. Vadya gave him something without which he would have remained a nobody on Twitch). The same can be said about other "GOOD KENTOW"

BUT, world domination was just awesome, it was nice to watch the people you've been following for 3+ years (Vova and Vadya + lineups) come together. Zaebok. The only thing that spoiled the picture was the fucking Evil. Krinj is Join, and Evil is fucked up. I can neither watch nor listen to him, a fucking undeveloped animal that cannot connect even two words together, but tries to get out of advertising with babaks in all directions.

Dmitry Ivashchenko: How really fucked up what is happening on twitch.
The company stifles rules, restricts people's opportunities. The most fucking bans are introduced because of "tolerance", strikes for the AP arrive, but nothing ended there. Now one of the top CIS squads has decided to arrange a live nursery. What is the benefit of going to twitch at all now? In one warm and cozy place, fucking srach, in another fucking SHOW, SHOW and more SHOW.
89squad - what seemed to me before the reference on the CIS twitch. But, unfortunately now it is a kindergarten. One starts the stream, pisses on the other, cuts off the second - pisses on the first in response. Then the third, and then the fourth sucks on the already sucked shit. Are you fucking running threads? How can grandmas sit and fuck each other? Go to hell and solve your problems personally, why are you running like fucking roosters to turn on the flow and tell who is good and who is bad. If I want to watch this kind of shit - I will turn on the news or Malakhov, but not twitch, which used to be a place of rest, and not fucking sracha, releases and such garbage.

P.S. Yes, it's dialing online, and yes, people are interested. Because people are animals that are interesting to watch, WHAT WILL HAPPEN? AHH OH FUCK, OH OH FUCK, DID ADVERTISING FOR 3 MONTHS!!!12!11! But this is no reason to bring all this to the audience. The conflict must be resolved personally, because when there is a stream, people stop controlling themselves, they are ready for anything, just not to look like fuckers. They will try to blame everyone in order to take their eyes off themselves. November 8, 2020 at 07:36 pm

Dmitry Motorov – interview with PL600 regular and beginner streamer for…

Share with your friends

Today we are reacquainting ourselves with an active Pokeroff blogger in the distant past, the hero of our interview is Dmitry “Bizi” Motorov.

Very soon (in early March) Dmitry will make his streamer debut on the Pokeroffru twitch channel. And this is a great opportunity to call and ask questions for an interview.

— Dima, hello! Tell our readers about yourself, someone remembers you from blogs at Pokeroff, and the younger generation does not know anything about you.

I am 35 years old, married, have children, I have been living for 3 years in Cyprus in Limassol.

— Have you taken the citizenship of Cyprus or are you there on a visa?

Every year I renew my visa, I have Russian citizenship.

— And why exactly Cyprus?

Very easy to adapt to island life. Kindergartens, nannies, schools – everything is in Russian. 95% of communication takes place on the great and mighty. As if he never left his native St. Petersburg.

— Is it far from the sea?

10 minutes walk.

— What about the language, do you learn Greek?

No, I don’t teach, there is no incentive and no practice. Maybe 50 words I know, like “hello” and “bye”. After 7 years of residence I will be able to apply for citizenship.

— Do you often go to your homeland?

Before Covid, we went home 2 times a year to visit relatives, see friends, but for a year now we have been sitting in Cyprus without getting out.

– Speaking of poker, how long have you been playing poker?

From the age of 20, it turns out already 15 years, though there was a break for 2 years – from 2017 to 2019 – went into the crypt. I thought I would never go back to cards. But my friends showed me the mobile poker apps, and somehow I went back and got sucked back in.

— Why did you leave poker?

Tired for 12 years, constantly grinding for first place in rake races, began to burn out.

— What were your main disciplines before the break?

Used to play $5/10-$10/20 6-max Hold’em, tried PLO and mixed games. Went to the WSOP, got into the money. There was a fairly long period in my career when I played push-fold at 888poker, collaborated with Vladimir Shemelev – he was my backer. Rake kneaded there notably, in one year he somehow made $300K of rake, thanks to this he received the maximum rakeback in percentage, and he also received a solid profit. We fought a lot then with STiger at the same limits. I’ve played mostly $25/50, $50/100 and 100/200, but I’ve gone up to the VIPs by $250/500 and $500/1K. Feruell, Vedevas, Trueteller, Misha Rudoy earned their living a little higher.

The variance in this game sometimes just went through the roof, on especially bad days you could easily go into minus $50-70K without making mistakes.

— You know that we met once in our lives, you made it to the BPT finals, and I commented on it.

Seriously?) Yes, it was. In 2016, I came to a live series in Minsk for the only time and made 2 finals.

– You had a fairly popular blog on Pokeroff, what motivated you to keep it and why did you abandon it?

Many players then rushed into blogging, so that later, if they were lucky, they would sign a contract with some poker room. Shalamov, Filatov, Katsu, Rybachenko, Kravchenko succeeded. I have always been more interested in the process of playing than writing blog texts. I stopped blogging at Pokeroff when I co-founded my own resource Pokerway.ru, which lasted a couple of years. But then he bent over. Most likely, we made managerial mistakes there.

— How did you meet online after the break?

I started with PL $1/2 on PPPoker, I lost about $6K from the start (about 30 stacks), I played very badly. I went to JNandez’s website and studied the PL Omaha course. And little by little things got better. In fact, Omaha in applications and Omaha in classic poker rooms are two different games. The first one is more like playing offline – there are a lot of limp pots, multi-pots for 3-5 people are often played.

Many clubs have VPIP limits, such as at least 50%. You need to adjust for this factor. Now I play $3/6 with $5/10 shots and $10/20 with good lineups.

— What apps do you prioritize?

I play Upoker and PokerBros almost every day 1-2 sessions of 2-3 hours. But this is if the compositions are ordinary. If I manage to find the table of my dreams, I can stay. I recently had a record session – 21 hours

– What win rates can you boast of?

The average win rate for 2020 is about 15 BB/100. By the way, now I have started to connect GGPOKEROK, on weekdays I play regular PLO $2/5 tables there, and on weekends I play in apps.

— Have you streamed before?

No, I didn’t.

– Do you think there will be jitters?

I don’t think so. I have no fear of the public (spectators). By the way, I can tell you that in Cyprus I constantly participate in the life of the amateur Russian-language theater. Every week we have 2 rehearsals for 3-4 hours. We recently staged a performance based on Chekhov. There was a full house at the premiere, about 200 people.

— What can the viewers of the PokeroffRu twitch channel expect from your streams?

I think they will be interested.
