Oprah’s Hawaiian Home
Once an ordinary little gray ranch that Oprah considered tearing down is now transformed into the perfect 21st-century farmhouse.

Oprah’s Hawaiian adventure began a couple of years ago when her personal
trainer turned property manager, Bob Greene, planted the idea that she might buy
land on one of the islands. Besotted with the weather, the mountains, and the
ocean, Bob had been visiting a certain part of Hawaii for 15 years, looking for
“the perfect spot.”
He found it in a remote up-country region, where the houses that dot the moss-covered rock hillside face the ocean. Bob then convinced Oprah to look at a nearby property for sale. “He was worried that some developer might swoop up the land and build condos,” Oprah says.
Instead, she bought the land—and has no plan to build any condos.
Oprah called Ellie,
her Hawaiian decorator, after seeing a photograph of Ellie’s Connecticut home on
the cover of a magazine; she was attracted to its informal American country
style. When the phone rang and Ellie heard Oprah on the other end of the line,
Ellie says, “I jumped out of the bathtub, grabbed my cell phone, and ran out on
the driveway for better reception—wrapped in only a towel. Oprah said, ‘I want
you to do my house in Hawaii.’ I thought we should meet first.”

Ellie and Oprah flew to Hawaii a few months later. “I saw a small porch, a
kitchen that needed work, a master bedroom that did not face the view and had a
low ceiling, and no connection between inside and outside,” Ellie says. “The
original plan was to do a quick job on the house then think about building the
ultimate Hawaii homestead.”
What started as a small renovation soon turned into a major project. Architectural designer Jeff Wooley, of John B. Murray Architect, rejiggered the quirky floor plan to create less-angular rooms and then, with the help of T.M.C. General Contracting Inc. and a team of craftsmen, stripped the house to its basic structure, moved the staircase, raised the ceiling of the master bedroom, installed French doors throughout, and wrapped the whole with a wonderfully wide veranda—a great place to sit and soak up the sweeping view.
The generous wraparound porch
looks as if it’s been part of the house forever. The outdoor furniture from
Weatherend matches the railing’s simple lines.

Figuring out how to furnish the rooms was not easy. At first, Ellie and
her team researched Hawaiian fabrics and antiques, thinking that the rooms
should reflect the locale. But that wasn’t what Oprah had in mind. “They came
with pineapple doodads and big flower things. They had everything but a hula
skirt,” she recalls. “I said, ‘Whoa! If I want to see Hawaii, I’ll just walk out
my door.'”
The interior decorator went back to her drawing board, and by the next time they all met, Oprah knew Ellie was on the right track—especially when Ellie, a former folk-art curator, suggested they go shopping for the kind of extraordinary antiques that are part of the American heritage.
The horses on the hills surrounding the ranch provided Oprah and Ellie with a strong theme for the living room. On one of their shopping trips, a late-19th-century American weather vane in the shape of a galloping horse caught Oprah’s eye, and Ellie made it the centerpiece of the room. The designer also transformed a reproduction tea canister into a lamp and placed it on a side table near one of the sofas, which were upholstered in a Boussac chenille. The curtains, elaborately embroidered in India, were also made just for this room.
Photo by Michel Arnaud, styling by Carlos Mota
From her bedroom, Oprah can step directly onto the terrace. The high
ceiling creates an open and airy space, and a flower motif, designed by Ellie,
was stenciled between the beams to continue the folk-art feel. A custom chair,
sofa, and ottoman—which doubles as a table—allow the room to be used as a
comfortable sitting room.
Photo by Michel Arnaud, styling by Carlos Mota
Oprah can pull up a chair and watch the clouds roll by from the veranda of
the master bedroom. The sheer panels, made from a Pollack Belgian linen, catch
the ocean breeze.
“She liked [the home’s] small scale,” Ellie says. “She already has a large home in Santa Barbara—this seems to go back to something real and personal. It’s a great house for her and two or three friends.”
Photo by Michel Arnaud, styling by Carlos Mota
Things that have been in Oprah’s life for years have also been put to
fresh use, creating a collage of her personal history. A Shaker chest that sat
in her Indiana kitchen for 10 years now stands in the front hall; a table from a
former pool house fits right into the new dining room. Ellie added the chairs,
covering them in a striped cotton that contrasts playfully with the checkerboard
design of the wool rug from Beauvais Carpets.
“I grew up in a rural folk environment, and I’m still rooted in things that have brought me comfort over the years,” Oprah says.
Photo by Michel Arnaud, styling by Carlos Mota
A strong connection to her past drew Oprah to The Waterboy, a 1946 masterpiece by the famous American painter Thomas Hart Benton. It’s one of her most recent purchases and one of the most dramatic. “He’s like someone I knew growing up,” she says of the painting’s plaid-shirted, straw-hatted young man. “I bought him because I loved him.” Now in the dining room, his presence powerful and alive, The Waterboy is like a welcome old friend.
On the 18th-century English dresser, which still retains its original blue paint, a cluster of multicolored French Jaspé pottery pitchers stands between two brass candlesticks housed in 19th-century glass hurricanes.

In the kitchen, Ellie had the ceiling stenciled with a pattern inspired by an old quilt. Windsor-style bar stools pull up to the island, above which hangs a triple light fixture from Ann-Morris Antiques. The gas range is from Wolf. The polka-dot dinner plates and bowls are from Vietri. Floral design throughout is by Sheryl Suzuki and Eileen Woods.
Even across the Pacific and far from her roots, Oprah has created a place to call home. “I love, love, love my house,” she says. “It’s a gem, so sweet and exquisite. Such a real, normal house. It feels like a nice blanket.” Then she adds, “A lovely and soft cashmere one.”

Richest African American. Oprah Winfrey is an American television TV host and best known for her “Oprah Winfrey Show”. She is also a television producer, actress, philanthropist and author. On January 29, 1954, Oprah Gail Winfrey was born to Vernita Lee and Vernon Winfrey on a remote farm in Kosciusko, Mississippi. The Oprah Winfrey Show, which originated in Chicago and was broadcast nationwide from 1986 until 2011, was the highest-rated television programme of its kind in history. Known as one of the most influential people in her country and a multi-millionaire, she holds an extensive real estate portfolio with properties in Montecito, Chicago, Hawai, Florida, New Jersey, Colorado and Washington state.
Montecito, California
The main residence of Oprah is in Montecito, California. Promised Land is the name of the estate. The magnificent Promised Land estate, now valued at over $100 million, spans 70 acres. Oprah’s 23,000 square-foot estate, a majestic neo-Georgian mansion, lies in its centre. The magnificently planted grounds also feature rose gardens, terraces, and fountains. The mansion is a big guesthouse with a private pool, a wine cellar, tennis courts, a gourmet kitchen, 14 baths, 10 fireplaces, and two home theatres. Along with numerous gardens, the property also has fruit and avocado groves.

Madroneagle Estate
Designed by Dickinson McDowell and her late husband, Madroneagle Estate, a 41-acre estate situated on Orcas Island, is a part of Washington state’s northwest. It is an estate with 7,303 square feet and is designed using local sandstone and reclaimed wood making it a sustainable house. The eco-mansion features four bedrooms, and five bathrooms, and overlooks its very own beach. It is tucked away in a tranquil Asian-style garden. The open-concept living space in the house is exquisite. The room’s lofty ceilings, exposed stone walls, and massive fireplace leave a lasting impression. It has a light-filled kitchen with skylights on the ceiling. A home office where Oprah may work while away from the studio is one of the many entertaining elements of the house, along with space for wine storage and tasting. Even the guest house, a four-bedroom retreat, has its own name: the Gallery House.

Telluride Home
Winfrey bought this 8,700 square foot, incredibly scenic home in Telluride, Colorado, in 2014. The 8,700-square-foot house’s living room is the most stunning area. It impresses with a massive stone fireplace, spectacular floor-to-ceiling windows, and a double-height ceiling with wood panelling. The home has been outfitted with cutting-edge Smart technology that manages everything from security to lighting and heating. It also has a family room with a library, a billiards table, and a movie projection screen that drops from the ceiling and vanishes when not in use, which is a necessity for its book-lover owner. The open-plan kitchen is airy and features stainless steel worktops with fine oak cabinets. Although the area has exposed steel beams that give it a hip industrial appearance, the warm wood cabinets and rustic stone walls keep it from being dull. An eight-person dining space is accessible from the kitchen.

Maui Home
Spanning 163 acres, the Maui estate is a vacation home in Kula, Hawaii. The stunning farmhouse with its wraparound veranda, which, like the terrace on the upper level, is the best place to spend away balmy afternoons, has to be the focal point of Oprah’s peaceful Hawaiian hideaway. The high ceiling of her bedroom makes the room feel open and airy, and Ellie -her interior designer painted a flower motif between the beams to maintain the folk-art aesthetic. “She liked [the home’s] small scale, she already has a large home in Santa Barbara—this seems to go back to something real and personal. It’s a great house for her and two or three friends.”- Ellie.

Seamair Farm Estate:
Located right in the heart of Montecito, Seamair estate is spread over 23 acres and designed by Architect Cliff May following a ranch house style. The mid-century masterpiece boasts four bedrooms, five bathrooms, a wine cellar, and a total of four fireplaces inside of an open-concept design with wood siding. Encircled by a gorgeous tropical garden is a secluded swimming pool. Additionally, there are three charming homes on the site, which are used to lodge workers or visitors. The equestrian facilities on the estate are of the highest quality and have been kept in immaculate condition. There are well-kept grounds and an octagonal gazebo in the middle. A lovely koi pond with water-loving reeds adds up to the beautiful landscaping of the property.

Oprah’s Spanish Revival estate
Located in Montecito and designed by Californian architect James Osbourne Graig, The Spanish revival estate has a living area that has a basic, elegant, yet cosy vibe owing to its whitewashed walls, and wooden vaulted ceiling, huge lattice windows, and substantially sized fireplace. The kitchen maintains the same simple yet rustic design. Oprah loves the handcrafted wood cabinetry, the marble-topped centre island, as well as the wooden ceiling with many skylights. The kitchen is plain and minimalist but still manages to be a cosy and welcoming area. The master suite maintains the elegant concept. With exposed beams, bay windows, and French doors leading to the tranquil rear, the space is charming.

Inside look at Oprah Winfrey’s impressive real estate portfolio
Oprah has become a property mogul over the years.property portfolio. Picture: Realtor.com
Oprah Winfrey, the billionaire media mogul, philanthropist, and actor, also happens to be a real estate tycoon.
Over the years the media queen has bought and sold many properties. But we did some digging, and it turns out, those were just the tip of the iceberg of Winfrey’s holdings.

When it comes to real estate, Winfrey has so many favourite things.
The result is a massive property portfolio. Let’s break down the list of homes she’s bought, sold, and currently holds.
‘The Promised Land’
Although she owns homes from coast to coast, Winfrey’s main residence can be found in Montecito, CA, a coastal community near Santa Barbara. It’s nearly two hours (with traffic) northwest of Hollywood.
To get a sense of just how exclusive Montecito is, the median list price of a home in the town is $2. 3 million, and it has a couple of dozen homes currently on the market whose asking prices are over $10 million.
In 2001, Winfrey moved into the neighbourhood with the $50 million purchase of a place she’s dubbed “The Promised Land.”
The enormous neo-Georgian estate comprises six bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, and a 3,136 sqm home on more than 40 acres.

Offering mountain and ocean views, the gorgeous grounds include a pool, stables, landscaped gardens, her bountiful vegetable gardens, as well as a pond.
Other features include a tea house, an “upscale outhouse’, plus more than 600 verdant rose bushes.
Winfrey continues to expand her Montecito masterpiece. She snapped up an additional 23.26 acres in 2015 for $28.85 million.

Most recently, she snagged her neighbour Jeff Bridges’ longtime retreat for $6. 85 million, bringing her total acreage in the area to nearly 70 acres.

Aloha, Hawaii
Winfrey reportedly owns extensive plots of land in Hawaii, but the details are most clear for her farmhouse on the island of Maui.
Winfrey’s romance with Maui started back in 2003, when she purchased two properties in the Kula community on the Valley Isle, adding up to 23 acres for $5. 3 million.
Each of those lots contain multiple buildings.
That purchase appears to have included a boutique bed and breakfast. So it seems she always expected to welcome guests to her tropical paradise.
Winfrey has continued snatching up properties in the area, for a total of over $40 million and some 163 acres, according to O Magazine, which featured this video of Winfrey herself driving around her property on one of two all-terrain vehicles given to her by Ralph Lauren. She discovered the ATVs on his ranch.

She’s even rumoured to have built a secret road to her property, making access to the more populated parts of Maui that much easier.
In addition to her Kula holdings, she purchased over 60 acres in the Hana area back in 2005.
The Winfrey (Windy) City
“The Oprah Winfrey Show” was broadcast from Chicago from 1986 to 2011.
Along the way, Winfrey scored a few properties in Illinois. But with the end of her show’s long run in the Windy City, Winfrey appears to have also moved on from her real estate there.
In the 1990s, she bought four condos on the 56th and 57th floors of a luxury high-rise, with the idea of converting them into one duplex. The 900 sqm property sold in 2015 for $4.6 million.
She also shed a three-bedroom apartment over the Four Seasons Hotel that she had bought in 1994 for $100,000. The high-end home sold for $1.275 million in 2015.

She also bid adieu to three units in a historic downtown building known as Acorn Lofts.
In 2013, she sold three of the live/work spaces, one for $675,000, another for $507,000, and a third for $875,000. For an idea of what the lofts look like, there’s a unit currently on the market (that’s not connected to Winfrey) for $1.6 million.
She also sold a modest colonial in Elmwood Park, IL, for $375,000 in 2018.
She’s also been spotted picking up homes in Tennessee, Illinois, and Indiana, most of those houses are believed to be occupied by members of her family.

Mountain getaway
Oprah also has a cold-weather hideaway. She purchased 66 acres in coveted Mountain Village, Colorado in 2014, for $10,850,000.
She apparently had a custom home constructed on the property, which sits above the ski town of Telluride.
But while it was being built, she reportedly bought a “temporary” home away from home to monitor the construction: a hi-tech mansion in Telluride for $13.7 million.
The contemporary construction offers complete privacy and direct trail access.
The grounds include a treetop observation tower, a fully functional funicular, and a glass and steel bridge over the great room.

Georgia on her mind
Some long-ago purchases have since been sold by the 65-year-old.
In Atlanta, Winfrey sold a 450 sqm, 39th-floor penthouse for $1.8 million in 2008.
Reports were not clear on whether she ever made use of the place for herself. She made a small profit on the property, which she bought in 2003 for $1,515,000.

She also had a 560 sqm house in Douglasville, GA, on 1.6 acres, which she had bought in 2005 for $825,000. That suburban five-bedroom home was gifted to a lucky somebody in 2011.
Island living
Back in the late 1990s, Oprah had a fling with Florida life. She decamped to ultra-exclusive Fisher Island as a winter escape and snapped up multiple condos on the private island paradise, which is known as having one of the highest per capita incomes in the country.
However, she’s since let go of her Florida homes, which were all sold in the early 2000s. Many of them were smaller one-to-four bedroom apartments, and appeared to be for her entourage and friends.
Oprah’s former four-bedroom condo on Fisher Island. Picture: realtor.com
Her 575 sqm penthouse sold in 2001 for $6.5 million. At the time, the sale price was considered “unheard of.” That seems quaint now — the same penthouse recently changed hands again for $13.5 million.
Of course, after those sales, Oprah began buying up homes in Hawaii, a place that obviously held more appeal for the A-lister.
And the island life beckons closer to the mainland, too. The real estate maven reportedly picked up a 43-acre estate on Orcas Island, part of the San Juan Islands in Washington state, last May.
Oprah’s new digs, for which she paid $8.2 million, include a four-bedroom, five-bathroom compound, plus a guesthouse.

Oprah Winfrey’s father dies at age 89

Oprah Winfrey’s father, Vernon Winfrey, dies at age 89.
Oprah confirmed in a social media post. She wrote that her father died in Nashville on Friday.
“Yesterday, with the family surrounding his bed, I had the sacred honor of witnessing the last breath of the man in charge of my life,” the media mogul wrote. “We felt peace enter the room as it leaves.”
Details of funeral plans not immediately released.
Earlier this week, Oprah surprised her father by throwing him a surprise barbecue in Nashville on the Fourth of July. The event was called “Vernon Winfrey Appreciation Day” and included a barber chair in honor of his long career as a barber and nearly 50 years of owning his own shop in Nashville.

Oprah herself had eyes in a wet place – however, this manner is not new to her. Emotionality has always been the main feature of her public performances.
That evening, many were in the mood for grandiloquent words. The 75th Golden Globes was under the auspices of Time’s Up, a burgeoning anti-harassment movement at the time, so many of the women attending the event needed an inspirational speech that seemed to confirm they were doing the right thing. Oprah gave them this speech. The effect of her speech was so hypnotic that the media mogul was immediately written down as a presidential candidate. Excerpts of her speech circulated on social networks under the hashtag #Oprah3020, and some celebrities publicly admitted that they consider the TV presenter an ideal candidate for the highest government post ( see also : “Oprah 2020: America welcomes its new president (female)”).
Protests in London over Trump’s visit to the UK. The British suggest that Americans consider another presidential candidate, July 13, 2018
Oprah herself, teasing the media with hints and insider statements that allegedly “anything is possible”, in the end, admitted that politics is not for her . “There are so many lies, dirt, undercurrents in politics that I definitely could not exist in it for a long time,” Winfrey said in an interview with writer Dekka Aitkenhead for British Vogue. “I am unable to do this. It’s not all clean. It would have killed me.” And here, one must think, the TV presenter is not disingenuous.
Saint Oprah
Most likely, if Oprah had not gone into the media, she would have become not a politician, but a preacher. At least, this was the nickname she was given at the age of three, when she, being raised by a strict and very believing grandmother, went to church every Sunday and read the Bible aloud in a very emotional manner. Some parishioners seriously believed that at that moment the Holy Spirit descended on the crumbs, while the girl herself simply worked out the ability to speak in public, which she was sincerely proud of from an early age.
Oprah Winfrey, 1970s
Grandma Hattie’s upbringing really paid off, albeit through strict conversations and caning for misconduct, especially compared to life in the company of a mother who simply did not have neither the time nor the proper experience (she gave birth to a daughter when she was not yet 20), no money to look after the child. So while mom worked in the city as a maid, and dad served in the army, little Oprah spent the first years of her life with her grandmother, who taught her to read, write and think a lot.
By the way, the TV presenter’s parents were never registered. In a sense, Oprah will follow suit: Winfrey has not yet married her longtime partner Steadman Graham.
Oprah and Steadman in 1987
And in 2015
And, perhaps, it could be a story about how poor, but kind parents, if childhood spent in the countryside would not have been one of the happiest periods in a girl’s life. In fact, the American realities in those years were much more severe: racial discrimination prevailing throughout the country and the anger of the black population at their disadvantaged position, a total lack of sexual education and culture, illiteracy and crime. So, when Oprah finally had to return to her mother, she actually moved from the village to a real ghetto, where she, a child, was regularly harassed by relatives and friends of her mother. Subsequently, Oprah admitted on the air of her own show that at the age of nine she was raped by her own cousin, after which, either as an apology, or in gratitude, he bought her ice cream.
Oprah Winfrey, 1991
This happened long before Hollywood actresses took a stand against workplace harassment. This is probably another reason why Oprah’s speech at the Golden Globes sounded so sincere.
It would be at least incorrect to downplay the hardships of the future celebrity’s childhood. And, perhaps, the child deserves all the more respect, who several times ran away from the ghetto to his father in Nashville (the girl’s parents had already dispersed by that time) in search of a normal life, even stealing money from his mother for this. She got pregnant at 14 and lost the baby. She ended up in a shelter for difficult teenagers (another punishment for her mother for disobedience) and faced constant harassment and assault. But nevertheless she found the moral strength in herself so as not to wallow in the chaos that surrounded her daily.
Oprah and Will Smith, A NIght at the Oprah, 1992
Of course, she did not succeed alone: the girl’s father, Vernon Winfrey, brought her up in the same strictness as her grandmother. “Father turned my life around, encouraging me to be better than I am, and believing that I can do anything,” Oprah admitted many years later. Mr. Winfrey taught his daughter discipline and endurance – for example, forced her to learn five words a day in order to get lunch. As a result, Oprah, who was already naturally talented and capable of learning, became a real school star, who preferred extracurricular extracurricular activities like a drama club or a debate club to lazy shopping with her girlfriends.
Her father’s efforts were not in vain: it seemed that since Oprah settled in Nashville, her success was only going uphill. She was the head of the school board, tried herself as a local TV presenter, participated in competitions and quizzes, even received an invitation from President Nixon to visit the White House. Winning another public speaking competition will earn her a scholarship to the University of Tennessee, where Oprah will continue to study communication beyond the theoretical level. However, the practice will not stop either – already in the first year she will be offered a job on a local TV channel, and Winfrey will begin her ascent to world fame.
Oprah performs stand-up, August 27, 1987
Broadcasting a dream
Oprah Winfrey’s career path is no secret – the TV presenter willingly broadcasts her story to anyone who asks her about it. So, the local channel WLAC-TV (CBS) made her the first black female news presenter, the Baltimore-based WJZ-TV glorified her as a reporter, entrusting her with the management of a separate show People Are Talking, which hit all the ratings. Then moving to Chicago and the morning show AM Chicago, which ousted the cult The Phil Donahue Show from the local market. Finally, The Oprah Winfrey Show, which is considered by many to be the best television program of our time. The woman opened her own publications and channels, made films and starred herself, founded book clubs and published her own works, received the most prestigious awards (including the Presidential Medal of Freedom) and interviewed world celebrities – and accompanied her in everything (and still accompanies her). ) success. So what’s the secret? Perhaps the answer to this question is much more interesting to get than listing other achievements of Winfrey and beyond.
Oprah on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, 1995
Titanic performance and natural charisma, of course, helped Oprah through life, but perhaps there is a much more important component in her success story – emotionality. It is enough to start with the fact that Winfrey did not work out, for example, with a career as a news presenter – there was not enough impartiality, neutrality in the narrative, and professionalism. A case is widely broadcast when a young Oprah burst into tears on the air, informing viewers about one of the past hurricanes in California. The management of the TV channel, of course, did not tolerate such a manner of presenting news. However, empathy, natural sensitivity, emotionality and unsurpassed oratorical talent opened the way for Winfrey to another format – a talk show.

It was the 70s. The feminist movement, which advocated the complete social equality of men and women, gained particular strength. One of its effects, writes the writer and researcher of American capitalism Nicole Ashoff in a column for the Guardian, was the popularization of “feminine” topics in society: those of home, personal life and, of course, personal tragedies. Oprah, whose story of childhood and youth was a real quintessence of a variety of social problems, was ideal for the role of a new national preacher. A dark-skinned woman, struggling (at first, at least) with excess weight, breaking through the shameful “glass ceiling”, sincerely wanted to trust. In addition, Oprah really perceived every story of the guests of her show as her own.
The TV presenter easily, without any shame, raised on the air such controversial topics at that time as divorce, depression, alcoholism, violence, homosexuality and even incest. “When I first went on the air, I said to myself, ‘This is what I want to do. It’s like breathing,” Oprah later recalled. It was then that Winfrey won her most important and most loyal audience – housewives who clung to the screens, leaving everything they were doing, just to immerse themselves in another story of someone’s life and listen to how Oprah would sympathize with all this.

Teacher, speaker, preacher, psychologist – all the professions that Oprah dreamed of devoting her life to over the years have come together.
It was the format of the talk show that glorified Oprah Winfrey throughout the country, bringing her first serious money. The Wall Street Journal coined the term “Oprafication”, referring to the trend set by Oprah for the most sincere and honest communication with viewers. Time, meanwhile, wrote: “Winfrey was the first to recognize the power of television to connect the private and the public. TV connects strangers, spreads stories and broadcasts them directly into our living rooms. Like a member of the family, television sits down with us for dinner and talks to us when we are completely alone. Capturing this paradox, Oprah makes us worry because she does. This is her genius and this will be her legacy, as the changes she brought to the talk show format we are accustomed to will continue to permeate our culture and change our lives.”

And so it happened: very soon, Oprah’s trick will be used on every second TV show, which Winfrey, as the universally recognized queen of television at that time, could not help but notice. However, she knew where she should go next. Already by the mid-90s, when other shows will just adopt Oprah’s style, the TV presenter will decide to radically change her format. Or rather, not even the format – but the presentation. In interviews that she gave herself, Winfrey admitted that she regrets that modern talk shows have reached a state of outright chaos. But, fortunately, she knows what to do: “It’s time to stop thinking about ‘how unhappy we are’ and start asking the question: ‘How can we solve our problems?'”.

So in Oprah’s career, and with it in the lives of millions of Americans, a new era began – the era of total self-development, responsibility for one’s own life and control of one’s own destiny. In an interview with Larry King in 1995, Winfrey admitted that from now on she wants to “uplift” people and will “use her life and her show to broadcast the idea of virtue.”

More and more often, instead of ordinary Americans eager to share their tragic story with Oprah, celebrities with inspiring success stories, coaches and gurus began to appear on her show – in a word, those whom everyone would like to look up to. Everything Oprah does, whether it’s her show or her publication, still boils down to the media queen telling the nation how to be successful. The recipe, in her opinion, is very simple: dream, surround yourself with inspiring people, work hard, put responsibility only on yourself, think positively and follow other truths that the “American dream” has. And they still believe her, because she herself is a living example of how a free America gives a chance to everyone who is ready to work hard. And they still love her – after all, she herself is an example of a successful person, which absolutely anyone can become. Americans perceive Oprah as a member of their own family, dear, inseparable – it is no coincidence that when Winfrey made the decision to close the Show, people did not even try to hide their tears.
Oprah speaks at the Women’s E3 Summit, June 7, 2018
Oprah teaches that anyone can be successful regardless of economic or political factors. The main thing is your own “I”, will, determination, craving for knowledge. In other words, everything that depends only on a person. Years go by, presidents change, society evolves, and Oprah is still relevant and loved. For this, Janice Pak, one of Winfrey’s success researchers, very aptly called the business woman a “cultural icon of the neoliberal era.” Probably, if Oprah had been born in any other country, her story would have been much more modest. But fortunately for her, America continues to live the American dream – and, apparently, it will definitely continue to live it further. At least as long as Oprah Winfrey is alive and well – an example of a modern self-made woman.

British singer Adele gave her first long interview to TV presenter Oprah Winfrey in several years. During this time, the pop star released a new album, broke up with her husband and lost weight. All these events were widely discussed in the media and social networks. Now Adele spoke about them in the first person.
Adele, 33, said she was shaken by her divorce from London businessman Simon Konecki in 2019 and has been frustrated with the institution of marriage ever since.

According to the singer, bouts of “wild longing” after the divorce pushed her to start training and lose 45 kg in two years.
The two-hour CBS interview was interspersed with new songs and old hits, which Adele performed in the picturesque park of the Griffith Astronomical Observatory in Los Angeles, with the famous Hollywood Sign in the background.
American rapper Lizzo, actress Melissa McCarthy and British comedian and TV presenter James Corden participated in the sunset concert with Adele. Nine-year-old son of Adele and Simon Konecki Angelo saw his mother singing live for the first time.
“I’ve never been so proud of anything in my life as seeing you here, baby!” Adele said from the stage.
During the concert one of the spectators proposed to his fiancee. She agreed and wept. Adele performed her hit Make You Feel My Love in honor of the happy couple.
“Thank God she said yes, otherwise I wouldn’t know who to dedicate the next song to,” said Adele.

Shock and disappointment
“I’ve always been obsessed with the idea of a family of two spouses and children, because I didn’t have one,” Adele admitted to Oprah Winfrey. The singer’s father left home when she was two years old.
“From a very early age, I promised myself that when I had children, we would all be together. I tried for a very long time,” she added.

46-year-old Simon Konecki is a New York native who moved to the UK with his family at the age of 10 and later founded Drop4, a firm specializing in the construction of water pipelines and water treatment plants.
The couple started dating in 2011, got married in 2016 and bought a mansion in West Sussex in southern England.
An anonymous source close to the pop star previously told Hollywood Life that Adele’s constant touring was the main reason for the divorce.
According to Adele, she really felt that her marriage was falling apart when she filled out a psychological test in a glossy magazine in the company of acquaintances.
One of the questions was: “Is there anything nobody knows about you?” Adele, she said, turned to her friends and blurted out: “Yes, I’m unhappy, I don’t live, but I can hardly drag my feet. ”
“They gasped,” recalls Adele. “And from that moment on, I never stopped asking myself: “What am I doing? What is all this for?”
According to her, the relationship actually ended in 2018.
“I took marriage very seriously,” she says. – Looks like it’s not like that now. I showed disrespect for the institution of marriage when I got married and divorced almost immediately. I was blown away by how quickly it all happened.”

Adele insists she still loves Simon even though she is no longer in love with him. The homes of the former spouses in Los Angeles are not far from each other, and they raise their son together.
The star says that her husband saved her life after she became famous.

“At that time I was so young and wanted to try everything. I could well go down the wrong path to self-destruction. And then he appeared – the most reliable person I met. I would trust him with my life even today “.
Music from nowhere
Songs like Hello and Someone Like You touch millions of people, but Adele admits that their power is a mystery to herself.
“I don’t think that as a person I have everything that is embedded in my songs. I take it from somewhere else, I don’t know how. It’s strange, because I don’t know life that well,” – she confessed with a laugh.
Answering the question why there are so many personal and intimate things in the lyrics of her songs, Adele said that she wants to help people who are going through the same experience.
“Music helps me in many ways, and I also try to help others, to remind them that they are not alone. Sometimes, when I record or listen to a song, I say to myself: “This is probably too personal.” But there is nothing scarier than what I’ve experienced in the last two or three years behind closed doors, so I’m not afraid of anything.”
Reconciliation with her father
The singer admitted that her father Mark Evans caused her the most severe trauma in her life in her childhood with his absence and indifference to his daughter.
“It’s because of my daddy that I didn’t learn to be loved and never expected good things from people,” she said during an interview.
Father and daughter did not communicate for many years, but reconciled in the last three years after Evans became seriously ill.
He once said that he hadn’t heard any of her songs, except for the only one, Hometown Glory, because it was “too painful”.
“It shocked us both,” says Adele. “I think I could sing about it, but not talk about it. We are similar in that way.”
Shortly before her father’s death in April of this year, she sang her entire new album to him via Zoom.
“Surprisingly, he liked most of all those songs that I especially liked. He said that he was proud of me. After that, I felt that the old wound had healed.”

Adele sang old and new songs in Los Angeles
Adele’s appearance was the food for numerous rumors and fortune-telling after she got rid of 45 kilograms of excess weight through intense training.
“After the divorce, terrible attacks of melancholy periodically rolled over me, – the singer said. – They literally paralyzed me, I could not control my own body.”
Noticing that she felt better in the gym, Adele began to go there every day. “It got my brain right.” she says.
- Adele is recognized as the richest singer in Britain
Oprah recalled her own experience of losing weight and how some people turned away from her when she first decided to go on a diet. In their opinion, caring about appearance humiliates a woman.
Adele responded by admitting that she had also come across similar comments, but she didn’t care about them.
“It doesn’t shock or upset me,” she said. “Throughout my career, I’ve always been too fat or too thin for anyone, too passionate or too cold. I don’t try to judge how others feel about their bodies. It’s a pity if someone suffers because of their own complexes, but it’s none of my business. I arrange my life.”

Oprah Winfrey singled out the latter in particular, quoting: “I’m at a loss. The more I try, the more I fall into decline. I’m my worst enemy. I hate myself.”
Adele said that this is how she felt after the divorce, and then her friends told her: “Hold on.”
“It was so hard to deal with all this: getting a divorce, becoming a single parent, not seeing your child every day. It’s not what I dreamed about when I became a mother.”
Speaking on CBS before the interview, Oprah Winfrey said that this “beautiful and heartfelt song deserves to become the anthem of all the people in the world who are suffering and struggling.”

Mother: Vernita Lee (1935-2018)The famous American TV presenter Oprah Gail Winfrey is one of the women in show business who can change a lot at will. The presenter leads not only a talk show, she is engaged in social activities, she is an actress and producer at the same time. Many times she was called a celebrity, a person of the year, a wealthy woman. Never before has a black representative of show business become a female billionaire, she is included in the list of one hundred influential people in America. Oprah acquired a film studio, a periodical, a radio network, and a television channel.
Oprah’s hometown is Kosciasco, Mississippi. Her parents are Baptists. Initially, the girl was baptized as Orp, just like a character from the Bible. The biography of the girl has undergone a name change. For many relatives, this name was dissonant and poorly pronounced. Because of this fact, even the birth document had to be changed. Parents often changed jobs, but they never lived richly. Mom is a maid, father was a miner, a hairdresser.
Oprah’s childhood passed in the north, in a remote village under the supervision of her grandmother. There the girl learned to read, attend church, she earned respect for the artistic retelling of the biblical chapters of the book. From childhood, a girl felt blows with a rod on her delicate skin if she allowed herself not to fulfill her grandmother’s order. At the age of six, her mother moved her daughter to the old Milwaukee ghetto.
At the age of 9, Oprah was raped by a relative, and at the age of 14 she gave birth, but the baby died almost immediately. The girl went through another drama: her mother, believing that her daughter had dishonored her, placed the girl in a special shelter where “difficult” teenagers lived. The father took his daughter, and after that she moved to her father, who made every effort so that Winfrey received a good education. The girl did not let her parent down: she won competitions, was the best student, and at the age of 18 she became the winner of a beauty contest. She did a lot of oratory.
From the age of 17, Winfrey showed herself as a talented reporter on the CBS channel, there were no black women on television before her. The girl was noticed, offered to host the six-hour news and talk show Baltimore Speaks. Oprah was then allowed to create her own entertainment program. From that moment on, the biography of the young talent again underwent a change, wealth and influence appeared, which allowed her to acquire a whole television channel.
There was a moment in Oprah’s biography that made her an actress. She played a minor role in the popular film The Color Purple. This work brought her an Oscar and a Golden Globe. Then there was another film and several television series. The rest of the time, Winfrey is engaged in a show that brought her both fame and money.
It took the talented girl only one month to promote her program. Her show was on the very first lines in the viewing ratings, it was broadcast in 138 cities. The show brought in more than $125 million to the state treasury. After 7 years, The Oprah Winfrey Show was watched by viewers in 64 states.
The most famous politicians and actors, musicians and businessmen came to Oprah to shoot the program. Viewers enjoyed the recorded interview with Michael Jackson and Tom Cruise. The programs attracted even more new viewers, fans of the King of Pop and the famous actor.
The stars who came to the TV presenter revealed their secrets of success to the huge TV audience. Such episodes were considered master classes from the stars. Oprah perfectly feels the interlocutor, she supports the emotions of the guests, she herself has hypersensitivity, which disposes to herself and to frank conversations.
Since 2011, Winfrey began to receive well-deserved titles and awards. She has an Oscar and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Barack Obama personally presented the medal to Oprah. The presenter has a beautiful plot in California, a house in New Jersey, a Chicago apartment, a ski house in Colorado. And this is not the whole list of available real estate from a successful media mogul. The woman owns a restaurant in Chicago, has her own magazine, and is actively involved in charity work.
