Mold is a problem that can crop up seemingly out of nowhere, though there are common areas where mold tends to recur, such as bathrooms, kitchens, attics, basements, and cellars. These areas are all prone to high levels of moisture and humidity, which promotes the growth of mold spores. While some people may be able to detect the presence of mold by scent or by sight, using a mold test kit is a much more accurate method and can provide users with detailed results so that they know what type of mold they are dealing with and how to treat the issue.
The best mold test kit for a home depends on whether users want to test the air quality or if a surface test is more appropriate. Take a look at the top products below to see examples of the various mold test kits available, then read on for more information about how to select the best mold test kit to test for the presence of mold in a home.

What to Consider When Choosing the Best Mold Test Kit
Don’t decide on a mold test kit without first understanding the various types of test kits, and then consider the accuracy of the test, the waiting period for results, and how easy or difficult the test kit is to use. These factors can help users decide on the best mold test kit to verify the presence of mold in a home.
Types of Mold Testing Methods
An in-home mold testing kit can test for mold in the air or on the surface of furniture, floors, or walls. Surface tests consist of swabs and tape strips, while air tests are done with an air pump or a petri dish.
- Swabs are a straightforward method of testing surfaces in the home for the presence of mold. These tests consist of one or more cotton swabs that need to be rolled over the surface to be tested. Swab tests provide results in just a few minutes. Other products require the user to send the test tube to a lab in order to test the sample.
- Tape strips are another type of common surface mold test kit. These tests are typically sent to a lab for analysis, so users will need to wait for results.
- Air pumps are made to sit on a table or countertop to test the air in the home. The pump collects air and mold particles. After testing, the kit must be sent to a lab for results.
- Petri dish tests provide a surface that’s treated with a microbial culture to help promote the growth of mold. When mold lands on a dish, it grows quickly, leaving the user with clear results. However, for the most accurate results about the severity of the air quality and the type of mold, it’s recommended to send the sample to a lab for testing.
Accuracy
When conducting a test for the presence of mold, mildew, lead, radon, or any other potentially harmful contaminants in a home, the tests need to be accurate; otherwise, there really isn’t a point. An inaccurate test is about as helpful as guessing. Swabs and tape strips are a good choice that can quickly gather a sample from the floor, walls, or any other surface in the home; however, these tests can be susceptible to contamination and false results if there are other substances on the tested surface.
Petri dishes keep the test isolated from the surface of the table or counter, but if they are left open for too long, airborne contaminants can affect the results. The most accurate test is an air pump because it pulls the air in without having to wait and it never comes in contact with potentially contaminated surfaces in the home. Sending each test to a lab will achieve more accurate results than users would be able to discern at home.
Waiting Period for Results
After testing for mold using a swab or a petri dish test, users may be able to get results in just a few days. The kit can give identification instructions for determining whether mold is growing in the home, but this isn’t the most accurate way to test for mold unless you or someone you know has professional lab experience and explicit knowledge about how to detect and identify mold and mold spores.
Air pump and tape strip mold test kits typically need to be sent to a lab, and even if the DIY user has personal knowledge and expertise, a professional lab likely has better equipment, so it’s best to send swab and petri dish samples away for the most accurate results. However, it can take between 3 days and 4 weeks to be contacted with the outcome of the test, depending on mail delivery options, location of the lab, and processing times.
Ease of Use
The purpose of an at-home mold test kit is to allow the average person to test their home for mold with a simple, intuitive kit that isn’t difficult to use. Typically, a mold test consists of taking a surface or an air sample, then either checking the results yourself or sending the sample to a professional lab for testing, which then mails the results back.
- Swab tests are performed by rolling the cotton swab over the surface of a table, wall, floor, or any other surface to be tested. The swab goes in a test tube and it’s then sent to the lab or checked at home.
- Tape strips need to be applied to the surface that is to be tested. Then, the strip is removed and is applied to the test board. This sample is then sent to the lab and there is a wait period before receiving the results.
- Air pumps require little effort. The pump pulls in air for the specified amount of time, based on the individual product. When the test is done, it is sent to the lab for the results.
- Petri dish tests need to be left out on a table or a counter. The dish collects spores and other particles from the air and then it is treated with a microbial culture to promote mold growth. After sealing the petri dish and allowing the contents to grow for at least 24 hours, the results are either checked at home or the sample is sent to a lab for a more accurate outcome to the test.

This Seeml Labs mold test kit includes one swab test and two tape strip tests, giving users the ability to test their home in more than one way with just one test kit. Gently roll the cotton swab on the surface to be tested, then place the swab into the test tube and seal it. The test strips need to be applied to the surface being tested, then removed and placed onto the test board. This traps the collected sample between the board and the strip. Place the board into the sample collection container and seal it.
After testing, the samples should be sent to the lab. There are no lab fees, though users may need to pay to mail the test kit. Once received, the lab can process the results in just 1 day, contacting the user through email with a detailed lab report and expert consultation to help understand the results and the next steps for dealing with a potential mold problem.

FAQs
Keep the home safe from lingering and spreading mold spores by testing and treating mold problems. For more information on mold test kits, such as how they work and whether these kits expire, read below to get answers to these questions and several additional commonly asked questions about the best mold test kits.
Q: How does a mold test kit work?
In general, mold test kits collect samples from either the air or a surface in the home. The sample is then checked by the user or sent to a lab for results that will be emailed within a period of 3 days to 4 weeks, depending on several different factors, such as the location of the lab and the mail transit timeline.
Q: Do mold test kits expire?
Most mold test kits don’t have an expiration date; however, it’s advised to use new test kits to reduce the chance of contaminated results because the chemicals in test strips, swabs, and petri dishes can degrade over time.
Q: If mold grew on the settling plate in my test kit, should I start treating my house for mold?
Settling plates or petri dishes are good for identifying the presence of mold, but not the type or severity of the issue. After using a petri dish mold test and finding mold on the dish, consider getting an on-site assessment from a professional mold removal company before treating for mold.
Q: How do I know if my home is free of mold once repairs have been made?
After cleaning up mold growth and making infrastructure repairs to prevent recurring mold issues, use a home mold test kit to determine if it worked and that the home is now free of mold. If you still aren’t confident after using this method, you may want to have an on-site assessment from a professional mold removal company.

Mold can grow anywhere it finds moisture and organic nutrients to feed on. You may find it in a corner of your bathroom, laundry room, basement, or any space that doesn’t have quality ventilation. If you come across mold, it’s imperative to remove it quickly and safely. However, it can be a little difficult to know if mold exists in your home (especially if it’s airborne), which is where at-home mold testing comes in. Mold testing kits help you detect and identify growing spores in your home through samples collected via the air or from the surface in question. Some give you results right away, while others ask you to package the samples and send them back to a lab for a professional examination.
Our favorite testing kit is the LabTech MoldOk Detection Test Kit because it’s affordable, can sample multiple areas, and includes an expert consultation. With the resulting information, you can get the peace of mind you’re looking for while making all of the necessary arrangements to remove harmful fungi.
Here are the best at-home mold tests that are easy to use and effective.

What We Don’t Like
Test multiple samples easily and quickly with the help of the MoldOk Detection Test Kit. We like that this at-home mold test includes the supplies and instructions to collect up to 10 samples. This includes surface samples and bulk samples (for things like carpet fibers or insulation). You can use this mold testing kit to assess various areas of your home, garage, office, or vehicle for the presence of mold. It also means that you have the flexibility to sample as many—or as few—spots as you need to.
This isn’t a self-reporting mold testing kit, so you will need to send samples to the AIHA-accredited lab for analysis, but the $15 testing fee per sample is significantly lower than the fees associated with other testing kits. The mold analysis will indicate the type of mold spores present in a sample, along with their relative concentration (minor, moderate, or heavy). In addition, you can take advantage of the free expert consultation hotline to discuss more details about the results.
A unique feature of this at-home mold testing kit is the option to test samples for an expanded profile that also indicates the presence of pollen, dust mites, fibers, and skin cells present in the sample. The add-on testing incurs an additional $15 fee, but it can be useful when assessing whether or not mold or other allergens may be causing discomfort or health complaints for you or your family.

Many at-home mold test kits take a minimum of 48 hours to determine if you have mold growth in your sample. In the case of lab testing kits, you may wait a week (or more) to receive results. Looking for a faster answer as to whether or not you have mold growth in your home? The Healthful Home 5-Minute Mold Test Kit uses rapid-testing methods to quickly indicate the presence of more than 32 different types of mold.
A major perk of this at-home testing kit is the fact that you’ll know right away if you have mold growth from some of the most dangerous genera—aspergillus, penicillium, and stachybotrys. Two rapid tests using lateral flow assay technology provide results in five minutes. The testing method has been validated in an EPA-licensed and AIHA-accredited laboratory and eliminates the need to wait days for results from a lab.
Swab a single spot for individual analysis of an area or sample from multiple places in the home to determine if you have a mold problem that needs to be addressed with further testing. As an added value, the Healthful Home 5-Minute Mold Test Kit offers an expert consultation if you do receive a positive test result. Like many other self-evaluated mold test kits, you can opt to send in samples for laboratory testing. The kit includes sealed swabs and a pre-paid return envelope for your convenience, but keep in mind that lab testing will incur an additional fee.

An air pump is considered to be an effective and efficient way to test for the presence of airborne mold spores. However, it usually requires special equipment and professional services. My Mold Detective offers an at-home mold testing kit specifically designed for air testing and includes a small, user-friendly air pump and collection cassettes.
After following the kit’s instructions for use, you’ll need to send in the samples for professional laboratory evaluation. Keep in mind that the testing fee for each sample is $35, and you’ll also pay the cost of shipping the samples to the AIHA-accredited lab. However, many people will find the cost of the kit plus the lab fees to be more economical than a home visit from a professional for a mold evaluation. You’ll receive color-coded lab results indicating which types of mold are present in the samples, along with their relative concentration levels (normal, slightly elevated, or elevated). It’s nice to know that you can reuse the air pump for future at-home mold testing and separate sample cassettes are available for purchase.

The cost of testing samples for mold growth can quickly add up. However, you can use an affordable at-home test kit, like this version from Mold Armor, as a starting point to determine if you have mold present in your home, office, or car. This self-testing kit includes everything you need to sample and test one area of concern. It includes a single petri dish, growing medium, and swab, along with the directions for how to carry out the test. However, to sample several areas of your home or compare indoor and outdoor air quality, you will need to buy multiple testing kits.
One of the advantages of this budget at-home mold test kit is that you’ll typically be able to determine if you have mold growth within 48 hours of collecting a sample. If you want a lab analysis to determine the type of mold, you can mail the sample to Mold Armor’s AIHA-accredited facility. Keep in mind that this will give you more detailed results, but will also increase the price of this budget test kit as each sample costs $40 to analyze.

Many at-home mold testing kits include an option for professional lab evaluation. Usually, this will incur an additional charge of $30 or more per sample. However, the Health Metric Mold Test Kit includes testing fees for up to three samples—making it our top recommendation for a lab-tested, at-home mold test kit.
Designed for surface or bulk sampling, you can use the Health Metric Mold Test Kit to evaluate areas of concern. Tape strips are included for sampling just about any flat surface (including walls, fixtures, carpeting, and more), or you can send in a sample of bulk material, such as drywall or fibers. While plenty of surfaces can be tested using this kit, take note that it’s not designed for air sampling. If that is an area of concern, you’ll need to use a different mold testing kit for testing the air.
Once you’ve completed sample collection, send in three samples for professional analysis in an AIHA-accredited laboratory. You won’t pay additional testing fees or return shipping costs—these costs are covered in the initial purchase price of the at-home mold testing kit. However, you won’t have any clues as to whether or not you’re dealing with mold growth until you receive your testing report since there is no self-analysis option with this at-home mold testing kit.
The good news is you won’t have to wait long for testing results. Health Metric promises to return results in five to seven days after receiving samples at the laboratory. If mold growth is present in a sample, the testing report will include the type of mold present, along with an indicator of its relative quantity (the report uses minor, moderate, or heavy growth indicators).

What We Don’t Like
The MoldCheck DIY Mold Test Kit includes 10 test films, giving you the opportunity to compare samples from multiple rooms of your home or in various areas, like the bathroom and basement. Described as a search kit, the goal of this at-home mold test is to help you find the primary source of mold in your home. You collect samples by exposing the test film to each area. After collecting samples, you’ll add an activating liquid to the film. After following the kit’s instructions for development, the films can be compared by color contrast and colony quantities.
Keep in mind that mold identification is not the purpose of this testing kit. If you’re looking for confirmation regarding the type of mold you have growing, you’ll need to call in a professional or independently submit samples to a laboratory. However, this mold testing kit for multiple rooms can help you to find the highest concentration of mold in your home as a starting point toward mold remediation.

One of the best defenses against the development of mold and mildew is preventing the conditions that are conducive to the growth of fungus, such as warm, damp environments. The Airthings Indoor Air Quality Monitoring System includes the Airthings Wave, Wave Mini, and Hub to keep tabs on your home’s humidity, temperature, radon levels, and VOCs. Using the Airthings app, you’ll have this information readily available.
The mold risk indication alerts you if conditions put your home at risk for mold growth. Even when you’re away from home, like at the office or on vacation, this system can provide you with the insight you need to be on guard against rising levels of humidity and warm air. With the help of the Airthings Hub, you can also use smart home assistants like Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or IFTTT technology to adjust your home’s thermostat, humidifier, and other appliances to minimize the chances of mold growth.

“When moisture levels become too high, it creates a ripe environment for mold infestation. The key to mold control is moisture control. Moisture can be controlled indoors by reducing humidity, increasing ventilation, and fixing any water leaks or other sources of moisture.”—Elías Rodríguez, M.P.A. Final Verdict
We recommend the LabTech MoldOK Detection Test Kit as a good starting point in assessing mold growth. This at-home test kit includes materials to sample up to 10 surfaces. While you will pay a fee to have each sample evaluated in an AIHA-accredited lab, the $15 charge per sample is lower than most and gives you the flexibility to test as many or as few samples as needed. For a single at-home mold test at a budget price, consider using the Mold Armor Do It Yourself Mold Test Kit which provides self-read results in as little as 48 hours after sampling.
Test Type
The type of test you choose will depend on what surface you are testing for the presence of mold. You’ll likely use a mold test kit with tape strips to lift a sample for surface testing. Or, you might use a swab to send a sample into a lab or spread a sample on a petri dish for evaluation. When testing the air for mold, the best option is typically an air pump that collects samples for evaluation in a laboratory. However, some mold test kits use collection film or petri dishes exposed to the air as a means of testing for mold. If you want to test materials like drywall or carpet fibers for mold, then a test kit with a pouch for including samples to send to a lab is your best choice.
Accreditation
Choosing an accredited at-home mold test kit can help you have more confidence in the results you receive. For lab-tested mold kits, check to see if the laboratory you’re submitting samples to has received accreditation from the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and other professional organizations, as noted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Result Type
There are two ways of receiving results from an at-home mold test: self-analysis or lab reporting. If you choose a test kit that requires lab reporting, you’ll submit samples (typically collected by a tape strip, swab, or petri dish) to a laboratory for analysis by an expert. Usually, this involves waiting a week or more for results and may incur additional fees for each sample submitted. However, you’ll receive a report that identifies the genus of mold growing, along with its relative concentration.
For self-report mold test kits, you can read results from your test kit within about 48 hours, although a rapid test can provide results in just a few minutes. If you’re on the fence about which type of test is right for you, keep in mind that some self-report mold kits can also be submitted to a laboratory once you see evidence of growth. The laboratory analysis will confirm the type of mold present in your sample.
Number of Samples
Mold tests will include the supplies for collecting one or more samples. If you have a number of surfaces to test, choose a testing kit that includes enough supplies to collect all of the required samples. Keep in mind that some kits for lab testing only include the analysis fee for a specified number of samples. If you submit additional samples, you’ll need to pay a fee for each one.
FAQ
-
“Common types of mold include aspergillus, cladosporium, and stachybotrys atra (also known as black mold). That said, there are many different types of mold,” says Dr. Balmes.
He adds that most mold growth is visible but can also occur under carpets or inside walls—making it important to consult a mold removal professional if you’re in doubt about how to proceed with testing or removal. -
While at-home mold test kits can provide you with some insights into the presence of mold that may be growing in your home, there are also a variety of factors that can undermine the accuracy of these tests—including collection errors, inability to properly read the test results, and improper storage or handling of the sample. For this reason, you might choose to use a mold professional for the assessment of any areas of concern in your home or property.
When using an at-home mold test kit for basic evaluation, be sure to follow all of the manufacturer’s instructions for testing for the best results. If you choose a test kit that includes lab evaluation, ensure that the lab has been accredited by the AIHA.
-
At-home mold test kits may provide you with an indicator of whether or not there is mold present. Keep in mind that since there are no federal or regulatory guidelines specifying a “safe” level of mold, any visible mold growth requires attention for cleaning and removal, regardless of what type it may be according to test results.
It should be noted that the EPA’s stance on mold sampling is that it should be conducted by professionals with experience in the collection and interpretation of results related to mold testing.
-
According to the EPA, “visible mold and moldy odors should not be present.” In addition, you should be able to occupy the area without any health complaints or physical symptoms connected to mold exposure.
While not required by federal or state regulations, you may choose to use an at-home mold testing kit to evaluate a previously contaminated surface for the presence of mold.
-
After a leak, various types of mold can begin growing within 24 hours. Signs of visible damage on the outside of the wall, such as obvious water stains, discoloration, or a change in the surface texture could be cause for concern. You may also be able to sniff out signs of mold, which has a damp and musty smell. You can use a mold test kit to send a test sample of your drywall for lab evaluation, but the EPA recommends that sampling for mold should be conducted by professionals.
-
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends removing every type of mold as soon as it’s spotted since you don’t know how it’ll affect you or anyone else in your household. There is no acceptable amount of any type of mold, and you should prioritize cleaning up spores—whether it be with the proper cleaning products or help from a mold remediation company if there’s 10 square feet or more of the affected area.
-
Yes. Check that the testing follows methods from the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) and other professional organizations, as noted by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). After the fact, the results of at-home mold testing can help you create a prevention plan and recognize a mold-free area.
This article was written by Erica Puisis, who has been researching strategies to improve everyday life and health for The Spruce since 2017. To find the best options for at-home mold testing kits, she considered a wide range of products that include both self-monitored and lab-evaluated options. When comparing options, she considered the type of test, the number of samples for each kit, how long it takes to receive results, the cost of any necessary lab fees, and whether or not additional help is available from an expert. All of the at-home mold testing kits on this list that are lab-evaluated are handled by an AIHA-accredited facility.
In the research process, we also interviewed Dr. John Balmes, a professor of medicine at UCSF and professor of environmental health sciences in the School of Public Health at UC Berkley. He shared insights on the most common types of residential mold, as well as the conditions that are most favorable for its growth. In addition, we spoke to Elías Rodríguez, the Deputy Director of Public Affairs for Region 2 of the EPA, regarding testing guidance and the role that moisture plays in the development of mold growth.

Read What Many Satisfied DIY Mold Test Customers Have To Say About Our Test Kits.
I’m convinced that I got the best bargain for mold tests (kit includes laboratory analysis!)
I bought this kit because there was a leak in the apartment above mine which led to some nasty mold growth in my bathroom. The landlord simply cleaned the surface and I wasn’t convinced that it took care of the problem. The kit comes with three easy to use slides for collecting specimens which was more than enough for my need.
I tested the bathroom, dust that collected from my bedroom vent (to see if spores are circulating), and some mold in the insulation of my fridge (not a concern but I had a slide to spare.)
The turn around time was incredible; I received my results a lot sooner than I expected. I learned the same mold types existed in both my bathroom and in the dust from my bedroom vent. Customer service was stellar as well. Throughout the purchase process I was contacted multiple times by the service, assuring me that I can contact them with any questions or concerns I may have. I had some questions regarding the mold types found and got to speak with the lab guy. He explained potential causes for concern, variables in the collection process, limitations of analysis, and even suggested options for dealing with the problem. I didn’t expect this personal level of customer service.
For anyone looking for more information about mold growth in their homes, this is the kit to buy. You rarely see this level of customer service at this price point.
Great Test – Report Same as Professional Would Give
Works as advertised and was exactly what I was looking for to test a small, mysterious patch of mold on the wall. Tape lift easy to perform. Results came back quickly along with personal attention. To the best of my knowledge, the results were accurate (or were at least what I expected).
I’ve had professional mold testing done, and the report sheet from DIY was basically the same I got from the guy who charged $150/hour.
My only comment is that I would have liked to have had a zip lock bag and return mailing envelope enclosed in the package to make it seamless to return. Providing my own mailer was the only inconvenience to the process and was hardly an insurmountable obstacle. Also, a word of warning: the tape is stronger than it seems. I peeled off some paint when I did one of my lifts. It was my fault – the instructions clearly warn against pressing too hard – and I leaned into it because I wanted to make sure I was getting a good sample. Since you only get three slides, be careful. It requires a deft touch.
It was very easy to use this kit
It was very easy to use this kit. It might have been beneficial to have more than 3 samples sent in but I guess it does the job if you take them correctly and in locations that are critical. I did locations that were recommended and our results turned out to be just fine. Nothing bad was found so that makes it great.
I think if it found some bad mold it would have been a bad thing for us but a great thing that it was found. I am very happy with the entire process.
The Customer Service is outstanding with this company. Michael, who is the owner, was very helpful and his communication was great.Follow up phone calls and e-mails were terrific. He made certain that all material was received and that we were happy. Definitely worth the money . Anything that prevented us from spending $1000.’s on having serious mold corrected is wonderful. I was very hesitant to call any company that would stand to make money from ” finding MOLD” that was dangerous, especially if they are the ones doing the job. This company was objective and had nothing to gain whether mold was present or not. That is a good thing.Definitely a good investment to prevent future problems.I was thinking that we were going to have a problem and would have to undergo Mold Removal and mitigation because we had 3 episodes of minor basement water before our sump pump.
Happy to find out that there were no horrible molds present.
How to Test for Black Mold
It’s no secret that damp areas of the home provide the perfect conditions for mold and mildew to grow. Whether your nose knows, or your eyes spy dark spots in strategic locations, you want to make sure.
Mold doesn’t just eat away at your wood, wallpaper, or grout. Its spores get airborne and cause all kinds of health problems. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says enough evidence exists to link mold to upper respiratory tract symptoms like itchy eyes and runny nose to cough and wheeze in otherwise healthy people.
What is black mold?
When people say “black mold,” they refer to Stachybotrys, a greenish-black mold that grows on damp material with a high cellulose content. In our homes, that includes wood, fiber or gypsum board, paper, fabric, or green insulation. Just because mold is black doesn’t mean it’s the dreaded Stachybotrys though, which by the way also manifests itself in blue and grey. But because Stachybotrys can off-gas dangerous mycotoxins, it’s the mold variety most feared.
Testing for mold in your home
If you hire a professional mold inspector to come to your home, they’ll take samples from three areas—the air, the surface, and surrounding dust. They send these samples to a third-party laboratory to find out the concentration and kinds of mold in those particular areas.
However, this procedure takes time and isn’t cheap. Fortunately, testing for mold in your home is a relatively easy task that can give you faster results and save you money. If you’ve done everything you can to prevent mold but still have reason to think the air you breathe is compromised with mold spores, check strategic locations for visible signs of mold.
Common areas of mold growth include:
- Areas around plumbing lines, even behind the drywall
- Below sinks
- In the wall around leaking windows
- In closets, particularly those storing leather goods
- Under the carpet in damp areas or where there’s been a leak or flood
- Behind the refrigerator
- Coils of HVAC air handlers or ductwork
- Between the furniture and exterior walls, particularly in basements or concrete block houses
How to test for black mold
If you find signs of or suspect mold in any of these areas, purchase a mold test kit. Mold test kits are available in most home improvement or hardware stores and from online retailers. But not all kits are the same. Read the labels to learn their differences. Options may include:
- Kits that, within minutes, tell you mold is or isn’t present on a surface and what kind
- Kits that tell you mold is in the air but don’t identify what kind
- Kits that include lab fees in the purchase price, and others that don’t
Here are three of the most popular mold test kits, what they include, and how to use them.
Healthful Home 5-Minute Mold Test
This quick and easy test includes one test swab and one test strip for each Stachybotrys and Penicillium/Aspergillus that resemble those used in home pregnancy tests. It also includes three extra swabs if you decide to take more samplings for lab confirmation, a lab request card, and a pre-paid mailer.
To use this kit, simply swab the area, wet it in the solution in the syringe, and apply to the test strip. If you have one line, the test is negative. Two lines mean you have that type of mold present.
Mold Armor FG500 Do It Yourself Mold Test Kit
The Mold Armor kit includes a test swab, petri dish, and a bottle of mold growth medium. You can use this single kit in one of three ways—to test the air for mold spores, to test air quality in your HVAC duct, or to test for surface mold.
To use the kit, pour the growth medium in the petri dish, replace the lid, and allow it to gel for one hour. Then, either allow it to remain open to the atmosphere for an air quality test, tape it to your air duct for a HVAC test, or use the swab to remove a sample from a surface and apply it to the growth medium for a surface test.
If after 48-96 hours mold begins to grow in your dish, you may choose to send it to a lab for analysis. With a price tag of under $10, this mold test kit is affordable. But the lab fee is an additional $40.
DIY Mold Test
This easy test kit includes three tapes to lift samples from surfaces which you then mail back for analysis, a quick start guide, and a mold inspection booklet to walk you through the process. The $45 price of the kit includes the lab fees to test for all mold types, not just two or three. To use the kit, simply apply the tape to wherever you see mold in your home, lift off, and adhere to the enclosed sample card. You’ll receive an illustrated lab analysis report in the mail.
Before doing anything like cutting into drywall or removing baseboards to expose mold, don your personal protective equipment. The Environmental Protection Agency recommends when cleaning up mold (or possibly stirring up the spores) you wear long sleeves and pants, shoes, gloves, goggles without vent holes, and an N95 respirator.
If you receive positive test results, you can then decide if you want to remove the mold yourself or hire a professional.

What is Mold and Where Is It Found?
Mold are microscopic organisms that produce spores and are found virtually everywhere, indoors and outdoors. Mold can be found on plants, foods, dry leaves, and other organic material. Also susceptible to mold growth are cellulose materials, such as, cardboard, paper, ceiling tiles, and sheet rock. Mold spores are easily detached and made airborne by vacuuming, walking on a carpet or sitting on a couch. In indoor environments, mold can grow in air conditioning ducts, carpets, pots of houseplants, etc.
Mold Can Be Found In Many Areas Of Your Home
- Attic
- Living Rooms
- Bathrooms
- (HVAC) Ventilation System
- Bedrooms
- Kitchens
- Basements
- Any Moist Areas
- Carpets
- Garage
Why Choose PRO-LAB’s Mold Test Kit?
PRO-LAB’s Black Mold Test Kit utilizes patented laboratory analytical method for accuracy and reliability. Our simple do-it-yourself test indicates the presence of mold within 48 hours. Optional lab analysis is available, which identifies the type of mold present. To help detect the possibility of mold, do you notice any of the following?
- Discoloration or black mold on baseboards, wallboards, or wallpaper.
- Cracks in shower tile, lack of caulking, loose toilet seal, leaks under sink
- Carpet and padding in direct contact with concrete slab
- Poorly maintained or dirty air conditioning/heating vents and filters
- Damp basement or crawl space
- Water penetration (water marks on walls, mold spots on walls)
- Musty/ moldy odor
If you answered YES to any of the above questions, then you could be EXPOSED TO TOXIC BLACK MOLD!
The PRO-LAB Professional Mold Test Kit (patented) is designed to detect dangerous molds that may be in your home or office. The test kit offers four (4) easy sampling methods. The first two (2) air sampling methods can indicate the presence of a hidden or an elevated mold problem in as little as 48 hours. If mold growth occurs after the air sample is taken, an Optional Lab Analysis ($40) is available which identifies the type (genus name) of mold present. If you see mold growing in your home or office, the third or fourth method allows you to take a sample and send it to our laboratory for analysis to determine the type (genus name) of mold present.
Why Should I Worry?
Exposure to mold is not healthy for anyone but the following individuals are at a higher risk for adverse health effects: infants, children, elderly, immune compromised patients, pregnant women, and individuals with existing respiratory conditions. When inhaled, even in small amounts, mold can cause a wide range of health problems including respiratory problems (wheezing), nasal and sinus congestion, watery and red eyes, nose and throat irritation, skin irritation, aches and pains, fevers, asthma, emphysema and in some cases even death.
How Can You Be Exposed To Mold?
When moldy materials become damaged or disturbed, spores (reproductive bodies similar to seeds) can be released into the air. The following are sources of indoor moisture that may cause mold problems in your home or office: flooding, leaky roofs, humidifiers, damp basements or crawl spaces, constant plumbing leaks, house plants, steam from cooking, shower/bath steam and leaks, wet clothes, and clothes dryers vented indoors. Protection…Testing Is Your First Line Of Defense
To find out if mold is a problem in your home or office, you must conduct a mold test!
The PRO-LAB Mold Test Kit utilizes a patented laboratory analytical method for accuracy and reliability. The easy to use do-it-yourself test allows you to determine whether toxic mold spores are in the air that your breath. Visual sampling may also be conducted. Optional lab analysis is available to indicate the type of mold present.
The Black Mold Stachybotrys Chartarum (atra)
Stachybotrys Chartarum (atra) is a greenish-black toxic mold that colonizes particularly well in high-cellulose material, such as straw, hay, wet leaves, dry wall, carpet, wall paper, fiber-board, ceiling tiles, thermal insulation, etc. Stachbotrys, before drying, is wet and slightly slimy to touch. There are about 15 species of Stachybotrys, known throughout the world. This toxic mold grows in areas where the relative humidity is above 55%. This type of mold does not grow on plastic, vinyl, concrete products, or ceramic tiles. It is not found in the green mold on bread or the black mold on the shower tiles.
Stachybotrys produces a mycotoxin that causes human mycotoxicosis.
This type of mold is thought to be a possible cause of the sick building syndrome. Children’s exposure to Stachybotrys spores are thought most likely to cause pulmonary hemosiderosis (bleeding in the lungs). The following is a list of symptoms associated with exposure to Stachybotrys mold spores:
- Respiratory problems, such as wheezing, and difficulty in breathing
- Nasal and sinus congestion
- Eyes-burning, watery, reddened, blurry vision, light sensitivity
- Dry, hacking cough
- Sore throat
- Nose and throat irritation
- Shortness of breath
- Chronic fatigue
- Skin irritation
- Central nervous system problems (constant headaches, memory problems, and mood changes)
- Aches and pains
- Possible fever
- Diarrhea
- Possible hemosiderosis
- Immune suppression

After examining various mold kit options, we have chosen the most effective tests on the market. We judged each kit on how easy it was to use, effectiveness, price, and affordability. Here are the best mold test kits.
1. Home Air Check Active Mold Tests
Best Professional Mold Detector
Check Price
Home Air Check provides exact results on whether or not you have active mold growing in your house. It’s a small device that monitors the air quality and collects samples over a few days. The samples are then sent to a certified lab for analysis.
The test will show you a number of harmful substances that could be present in your home. These include volatile organic compounds, formaldehyde, chemicals, and mold.
What We Like
2000 Square Feet Coverage
Most home test kits will only do one room at a time. However, this air monitor will cover up to 2,000 square feet at a time. This means you can collect samples from an entire floor or a small house without having to move the device around.
Accurate Results From Certified Lab
Once you’ve collected enough samples, they’re sent to a certified lab for analysis. You’ll get to see exactly what’s lurking within your home. If you’ve been struggling with allergies or asthma, this will help you find the source of the trouble.
Analysis Cost Is Included
This device might seem expensive, but that’s because its cost includes lab fees. All you have to do is send the samples and the device to the lab. You’ll receive your results within five business days.
Measures Various Pollutants
This device checks for mold. But it also measures VOCs and formaldehyde. So if you’ve suspected that there are many nasties in your home, this test will reveal all.
Kit Provides Next Steps
Once you get your results, it’s confusing to know what to do next. But this company will give you advice on the next steps to take. You can contact the company via phone or email if you have any more questions.
What We Don’t Like
One Time Use
This air monitor is not yours to keep. After running the test and collecting the required samples, you must return the device and everything that comes with it.
Pretty Expensive
Considering you can only use it once, this is pretty expensive. But keep in mind that includes the lab fees.

2. DIY Mold Test by Mold Inspection Network
Best DIY Mold Test Kit
Check Price
Do you suspect mold in your house? This DIY mold test kit will give you the answers you’ve been searching for.
The test is easy to do, thanks to the instructional booklet to guide you.
The price includes lab fees and report fees (unless you’re in Texas).
The Mold Inspection Network also offers expert consultation if needed.
What We Like
Easy to Use
Start by inspecting your home. When you find mold traces, wipe the sample’s open side across the area. Close the tape again and continue to collect samples from around your house.
Once you’ve collected enough, send the samples to the certified lab and wait for your results.
Everything Is Included
All fees are included in the price. This includes lab fees, a detailed report, and even an expert consultation. If you choose to get a consultation, you’ll be able to discuss your results with an expert. The lab will explain your results in detail, and you’ll be able to figure out the best approach to your mold issue.
Results are Easy to Read
To help you understand your lab results, you will receive them as an illustrated report. Your results are confidential, and only you and the lab will know the results.
Budget-Friendly Price
Compared to our first pick, this is about 1/5 of the price. And that also includes lab fees! Just keep in mind that this doesn’t include those who live in Texas.
Tests for All Mold Types
Some kits will only test for a few different types of mold, but this tests for them all. They also guide you on how best to inspect for mold in overlooked areas of the home.
What We Don’t Like
Only for Visible Mold
This test kit won’t detect airborne mold spores. The test is meant to identify species of visible mold.
No Return Envelope Included
It’s not every day we post mold samples! It can be hard to know the best way to package them up. It would be great if this company included a return envelope and packaging.
Hard to Test in Corners
The sample testing strips do not bend, making it difficult to test for mold in corners. Plus, the adhesive on the strip isn’t best placed, which, again, doesn’t allow for the most accurate testing in corners.

5. Mold Armor Do It Yourself Mold Test Kit
Most Affordable Mold Test Kit
Check Price
I heard you, mold determination can be a costly task but it should not hinder you from determining the presence of molds in your home. This kit from Mold Armor won’t break your bank.
It has three testing methods to check for mold presence- indoor air quality testing, HVAC air sampling, and surface sampling. The instructions for different testing methods are pretty straightforward. Just make sure not to contaminate the culture media prior to testing in order to provide accurate results.
You get everything you need to run a single test. After the device has collected enough samples and detected the presence of a particular mold that you suspect to be a pathogenic one, you have the option to send the petri dish for mold identification where the laboratory scientists will analyze them. Take note though that the optional lab testing would require another buck from you.
What We Like
Has Optional Laboratory Analysis
If you are adamant about finding out what particular mold is present in your household, there’s a choice for you to have the petri dish with the isolate sent to the testing laboratory for further workup. Experts will conduct further analysis to determine what type of mold is present and if the concentration of mold is alarming. This isn’t mandatory though unlike the other kits.
Easy to Read Results
Reading lab results can be somewhat confusing unless you’re a scientist or biologist. However, with Mold Armor DIY kit, the presence of growth on the media provides you with an idea that the mold is present as the culture media is selective for mold growth alone.
Quick Results
Waiting for results for weeks can be frustrating. Luckily, this kit will give you initial results within 48 hours. This can be extended up to 96 hours to identify slow-growing molds.
What We Don’t Like
Longer Lab Analysis
Lab analysis fees aren’t included, so you’ll have to pay nearly $40 per sample. This might be worth it if you’re severely affected at home but don’t know the cause. Results also took almost three weeks, which is understandable because some molds might take a while to culture and obtain a pure isolate.
Product Specs
Detects Airborne Particles | Only mold spores |
Results Waiting Time | 48 to 98 hours or longer depending if you opt to have it analyzed in the lab |

Any Additional Fees | Yes — lab fees |

What We Like
Quick to Use and Get Results
Spending an entire afternoon running around the house to collect samples can be frustrating and time-consuming. After five minutes, the cassettes should’ve collected enough samples, and you can retrieve them.

Unlike the top test kit on our list, this device is yours to keep. When you need to test for molds again, all you have to do is purchase additional cassettes. With this kit, there’s no need to rent any expensive devices.
Analyzes Mold Levels
Not only does this detect mold, but it will also tell you whether your mold concentration levels are normal, medium, or high.
What We Don’t Like
Expensive With Extra Costs

7. Healthful Home 5-Minute Mold Test
Best Instant Mold Test Kit
Check Price
If you’re looking for a reliable and quick way to know whether or not you have mold, this kit is for you.
This test kit will give you instant results, so you can start looking for a solution even quicker.
You get a total of four test swabs (one testing swab and three applicator swabs) that you can wipe on any surface where mold is suspected. It’s a foolproof test meant to determine if what you suspect to be mold really is.
What We Like
Quick to Use With Instant Results
This is a quick solution if you suspect mold in your bathroom, attic, underneath your carpet, or anywhere else in your house. Simply swab the area and place the sample in the tube. You’ll get your results in an instant.
Easy to Understand Results
Testing for molds feels like testing for urine pregnancy, as its interpretation is like the latter. Two lines would mean a positive result, while a single line for control means a negative result.
Affordable Kit
This test kit is reasonably priced and won’t break your bank. In fact, it’s one of the cheapest on the list.
Validated by AIHA-Accredited Lab
While this may seem too good to be true, the test is validated in an EPA-licensed and AIHA-accredited lab. They have deemed it the market’s most sensitive and accurate fast test. Compared to other mold tests, it’s 100 times more sensitive.
What We Don’t Like
Further Investigation Is Needed
This test kit will only tell you whether or not you have mold — it won’t tell you if it’s toxic. You have to do further testing and inspection to know which type of mold is present.
You Can’t Test for Airborne Particles
This only allows you to test surfaces. You can’t check if you have mold spores in the air.
Testing Strips Can Be Defective
Many customers noted that their testing strips were defective. They often got inconclusive results. This is a shame when there are only two testing strips included.

What to Look For (Buying Guide)
There are multiple choices available on the market, but you must find the right one for you. Here are a few points to keep in mind when searching for the best mold test kit:
Outdoors or Indoors
It’s important first to determine where you’ll be doing the testing. There are separate test kits for indoor and outdoor use.
Some kits can do both, so always double-check so you’re not disappointed.
Lab Analysis
After gathering the required samples, most test kits require you to send them to a lab. Now, it’s good to choose a brand that uses an independent lab. This will ensure that you get accurate and unbiased results.
Even better, you can find several brands that use AIHA-accredited labs.
Additional Fees
Some test kits might seem affordable, but it’s wise to consider additional charges. Only a few brands include lab fees in the initial price, whereas others require you to pay extra. It’s also generally the customer who has to pay for postage.
User-friendly
When looking at potential test kits, consider how easy it is to use. A detailed instruction manual is also a plus, so you’ll know how to do the test correctly.
We highly recommend checking customer reviews to see how they found the results. Some lab results tend to be confusing, so look for one that might use color-coded results or easy-to-read graphs.
Types of Test Kits
There are different types of test kits to choose between. However, it’s essential to consider what you need from the test kit before settling on one. For example, some kits are for visible mold only, while others detect mold spores and particles in the air. Let’s explain a little further.
Air Quality Testing
This type of test kit will attract particles from the air onto a small cassette or petri dish (depending on the brand). The dish is treated with a “microbial culture” that promotes mold growth. As the dish is left open, it will collect mold spores. You’ll then close the lid, and mold should form after 24 hours.
Other air testers will use a small pump to collect air and particles. Some require only a few minutes, while others need longer (refer to the manual). You can then collect a dish or cassette and send it to a lab for analysis.
These types of test kits tend to be more expensive but highly effective. You get to know whether or not mold is present in the air. This also makes it possible to eliminate mold spores before they become actively growing mold (1).
Surface Tests
There are many things hiding in our homes that might look like mold. Mildew is one example of another fungus that’s often confused for mold. Dirt or mud can also resemble mold at times (2).
A surface test generally consists of one or more tape lift samples. To use this, lift the tape from one side of the sample, then press it gently against the moldy area. You can also use a cotton swab and gently roll it across the area and then on the sticky tape.
Afterward, send your samples to the provided lab. You can expect your results to arrive between two to five business days, depending on the lab and brand. Most brands will provide you with your results via email.
Other surface tests consist of one or more cotton swabs that you roll on the area and then slide into a tube. Inside the tube is a substance that will change color, indicating whether you have mold or not.
Importance of Testing for Mold
While mold can cause several health issues or none at all, it’s not something we want growing in our house. It’s important to test for mold not only to determine whether or not you have it but also to know what type.
There are many types of mold; some are toxic while others are harmless. Doing your own testing with a DIY kit is a good start. Then when your collected samples are analyzed, you’ll know exactly what species of mold you’re dealing with.
Different types of mold require different treatments. Some species are easily removed with vinegar, while others require something stronger such as bleach. Killing the source is crucial as the actively growing mold will otherwise spread throughout your home by creating spores.
Detecting Mold
Mold isn’t always visible, which makes it tricky to determine its presence. Here are a few things to help you detect mold:
1. Smell
One of the first signs of mold is a musty odor. If you have smelled mold in the past, you’ll probably never forget the scent. Mold outdoors and indoors tend to smell differently, possibly due to humidity levels and moisture.
Indoors, mold generally smells musty or damp, while it’s stale outdoors. It can become quite pungent and unpleasant. You can usually use your nose to sniff your way to the source.
Take Mold Smells Seriously
Smelling mold is a tell-tale sign that you have active growing molds in your house. This is not something you should take lightly. You must get further testing done to find proper treatment. Covering up with air fresheners isn’t an option.
2. Water Leaks
If you’ve recently had a water leak in your house, mold will likely form. In fact, mold will begin to grow within 24 to 48 hours if the conditions are optimal (3).
You must inspect the area around the leak closely. Do what you can to clean up as much water as possible. If the leak reaches a carpet, consider hiring a professional to dry it to avoid mold growth.
3. Health Symptoms
Even if you aren’t allergic to mold, you could still be dealing with a few health effects the fungus brings. The mold that can cause the most harm to humans is Stachybotrys chartarum, also known as black or toxic mold. This species produces mycotoxins, which can cause severe health effects (4).
Common symptoms of mold exposure include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Respiratory issues such as coughing and shortness of breath.
- Irritated mucous membranes.
- Fatigue.
- Nausea or vomiting.
- Skin inflammation or irritation.
- Allergic reactions such as a runny nose, red eyes, and sneezing.
The Institute of Medicine found, in 2004, that mold and exposure to dampness can cause upper respiratory tract symptoms. The IOM also found that otherwise healthy people can experience coughing and wheezing.
4. Visible Mold
If you see mold growing somewhere in your house, there’ll be no doubt it’s present. But the real question is: how much is there? If you see small traces of mold, try to follow it to find the source. Regardless, though, the entire area will need treatment.

Manufacture of molds for pressing thermoplastic materials
Molds for pressing thermoplastic materials
Thermoplastic molds are used for injection molding plastics that require additional processing to give them final properties. Simultaneously with the manufacture of the product, the material is exposed to external factors for molecular crosslinking of the structure or hardening of the polymer.
Thermosetting plastics are plastics that become non-smooth and insoluble under the influence of external physical or chemical factors. For hardening, they can be affected by temperature, ionizing or light radiation, pressure, chemical compounds. The most common types of thermoplastic polymers are polyester, epoxy resins, formaldehydes.
Features of thermoplastic molds
Reactoplastic resin injection molds are designed and manufactured for the production of custom parts. Tooling for technological equipment consists of a base, a matrix, channels for the delivery of the polymer mass and a cavity. The configuration of the finished product depends on the shape and size of the cavity.
The mold for pressing may have several cavities. This design allows you to produce several finished products in one technological cycle, increase the volume of production of products and reduce production costs.
Injection molds must meet the following requirements:
-
have a set of punches and dies that determine the final shape of the product;
-
have cavities through which the thermoplastic material is delivered to the cavity;
-
have heat exchange circuits to ensure heat removal during cooling or hardening of the part;
-
have structural elements that simplify the removal of plastic castings from the mold;
-
have high strength to withstand the injection of polymer mass under high pressure;
-
do not react with the plastic mass, which is used to produce the finished product.
Making a custom mold for casting requires a high initial cost, but after that it allows you to get large volumes of products with minimal cost. At the same time, the accuracy of the dimensions and shape of the products is maintained. Mold development will be cost-effective for batches of plastic products starting from 1000 pieces.
How plastic molds are made
JSC “Plant” Snezhet “provides services for the design of molds for pouring thermoplastic masses according to the technical specifications of the customer.
The custom mold manufacturing process consists of the following steps:

Abstract
Pusher is a rod made of hardened, nitrided or other steel.
Tappets are available in cylindrical, rod, tubular, stepped, flat, flexible, inch, and custom designs.
Trimming pushers is one of the most important and demanding tasks in mold making. It is necessary not only to accurately cut the pusher, but also to give it the necessary roughness. The appearance of the product depends on this stage.
Calculating the size of the pusher
In order to cut the pusher, you need to know its size. The size is calculated by calculating the actual size of the mold block and its plates.
This dimension consists of the following:
1. Dimension from mold mounting plate to block guides. We measure this distance using a depth gauge.
2. Dimension from punch base plate to bottom of punch. We measure this distance with a micrometer.
3. Dimension from the plane where the pusher is located to the bottom surface of the punch. We measure the distance with a depth gauge.
Add up the three values and get the required pusher size.
Pruning of pushers
What will we need
Cutting and grinding pushers
Stand of
9000
0004 Pusher trimming process
1. Set the tappet size using a micrometer screw on a special tappet trimming machine.
2. We fix the pusher in a vise.
3. Turn on the machine.
4. Smoothly and slowly bring the pusher to the cutting disc and cut off the pusher.
5. Bring it to the grinding wheel and grind the surface.
6. We take out the pusher and measure the obtained value with a caliper.
7. If there are deviations from the size, set the grinding wheel to this deviation using the flywheel and grind the rod again.
8. We make a control measurement with a caliper or micrometer.
9. We cut the pushers to the required size.
10. We carry out grinding and polishing of the surface of the end face of the pusher.
The pushers are ready, and now you can start assembling the mold.
Assembling the mold
Before assembling the mold, clean it of dirt and chips, and then lubricate the mating elements, such as pin and pusher guides.
What we need
Key set
M6 screws
Guide pins
Springs
Special stand
Assembling the fixed part of the mold
2. Now we can screw in the screws and tighten them.
Mobile mold assembly
1. Align the punch plate with the mounting plate using the guide pins. We make screwing and tightening of screws. In order not to damage the shaping surface of the punch, we put it on a special stand.
2. We put the springs in the holes. We insert counter-pushers into the pusher plate, which, in turn, are inserted into the springs, connecting with the assembly.
3. Insert pushrods.
4. Align the mounting plate with the assembly, screw in the screws, set screws and tighten them.
Checking the correct assembly of the mold
1. Checking the stroke of the pusher system. If everything was done correctly, then the pusher system will run smoothly.
2. Finally, we check the mold on the mounting block. To do this, we mount each half-form into a part of the block and fix them.
“
The mold is ready and now we can move on to testing on the injection molding machine. But first, let’s test the acquired knowledge in practice!

Plastic injection mold design
The injection mold consists of two main parts: a static die and a moving punch. Their weight can reach up to several tons, closing on both sides they create a huge effort.
Depending on the purpose, the constituent elements can be divided into three main groups: shaping, constructive, auxiliary.
Molding parts are in direct contact with the molten polymer and participate in the formation of the casting. This group includes: inserts, inserts, fixed and movable rods, sprue bushings, dividers, ejectors. The quality of the cast element depends on the correct calculation of their design and the location of the forming cavities.
These parts interact with the melt, it is they who take on hydraulic and thermal shocks. They are made from alloyed high-strength heat-resistant steel, which retains dimensional stability when heated. To improve wear resistance, they are additionally subjected to heat treatment (quenching), or nitriding or aluminizing. After processing, they need to be polished. To obtain high quality castings, the surface roughness must be at least class 9.
Constructive, with their help, molds are installed in the matrix and punch. During the filling process, the structural components create an exact relative position of the static and moving parts. They also provide fastening of the mold for the injection molding machine.
Auxiliary: gates that form threads and complex surfaces of plastic parts, signs, pushers that automatically remove the formed product, cooling system, hot channel.
Benefit plastic injection mold
You will ensure the cost of goods is much lower than any other market participant, you will be able to successfully oust competitors and completely occupy the target niche.
It is the most economical and fastest method of producing plastic products.
The mold for injection molding machines is produced only once and is capable of producing millions of products. With proper use and timely maintenance, it will last for many years.
However, the production of molds for an injection molding machine will require significant costs, so such an investment will be profitable only for large runs, from 1000 pieces and more.
The cost consists of:
– complexity of the configuration of the final product (thread, thin walls, internal cavities),
– gating system type,
– circulation, durability requirements,
– number of working nests,
– way of working: manual, semi-automatic, automatic,
– type of steel.
Depending on the complexity of the structure being created, a cold (much cheaper) or hot method of injection of molten raw materials is used.
Matrices designed for large batches of products must be made only from hardened steel. For abrasive raw materials, the requirements for tool durability increase, as does its cost. In order to produce products in very large volumes, several nests are designed at once on one matrix. Then the production of molds for injection molding machines turns out to be more expensive, but the casting, when converted to one unit, is cheaper.
Automation significantly affects the price: if the mold for injection molding machines is automatic, in 1 minute it is possible to obtain a much larger number of sets than with manual removal. As a result, the resulting product will be cheaper.
