Who will the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Lumio suit?
Those with smaller kitchens who want a smart contemporary machine that’ll provide all sorts of coffees and more.
What is the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Lumio like to use?
Creating favourite hot and cold drinks is quick and simple with this machine.
Dolce Gusto machines are a fuss-free way to make a whole lot of different drinks, and the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Lumio is no exception. This machine swiftly produces all sorts of coffees (black and white), as well as teas and chocolate drinks.

Coffee options and taste
I could brew up whatever I had a notion for with the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Lumio: espresso, americano, ristretto and more to satisfy black coffee cravings; and macchiato, flat white, cappuccino and so on for milky coffee moments. White coffees just need the appropriate pod, so this machine’s a top choice if you don’t want to worry about steam wands or separate frothers.
The coffees it produced all had enticing aroma, an authentic crema for the black versions, and an attractive foam on the milk-based drinks.
The flavour of the black coffees was excellent. When it came to milky drinks, the cappuccino was a tad sweet for my tastes, but for many this will prove just the right drink.
Brewing up with the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Lumio
Getting started for the first time with the Lumio was easy, and I found operating the machine pretty intuitive. Removing and filling the tank was no hassle, and putting in a pod easy. Changing the volume of the drink with the selector was simple, too.
You can produce cold brews as well as hot with this machine, and this just required moving the switch to one side or the other to operate. The result? I felt like an all-round barista with this flexible machine.
The whole process was super speedy, although, on the downside, I did find some noise while the machine was making a drink.
Cleaning and maintenance
Removing used capsules from the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Lumio was as fuss free as putting them in. You do need to do this each time because there’s no used capsule container, but this sacrifice is well worth it if you have a small kitchen as it means the machine is compact.
The capsule container can go in the dishwasher if you prefer – although I didn’t find cleaning this by hand was a chore because the grinds stay in the pod so there’s little to do. The drip grid and tray needed washing-up, but again cleaning them wasn’t taxing.
One of the reasons this is my top Dolce Gusto machine is that, despite its reasonable price tag, it comes with the benefit of a descaling alert. You’ll just need to use the Dolce Gusto branded descaler as necessary to keep it in tip-top condition.

What to watch for
If you want streamlined modern style and colour, you’ll love this machine’s curvaceous lines, and its choice of black, white or red finishes.
This coffee machine has an eco mode, so it switches itself after one minute of inactivity, and it has an A+ energy rating.
Invest in the Lumio and you’re getting a really flexible machine that makes over 40 different coffees in one very unbulky package. The machine’s just h47 x W18 x D22cm, so it can fit into a compact kitchen without encroaching on work space. It’s also light at 2.5kg and therefore moving house with it won’t be hard work.
The capsules you require for this machine are easily available in supermarkets and online and there are compatible versions – in other words, you won’t need to be vigilant about supplies as they’re convenient to get hold of. There’s a recycling scheme – called CollectPlus – too.
Dolce Gusto machines in general are ideal if you want a really wide range of drinks with little clean up and easy shopping for capsules, so why is this my top Dolce Gusto choice? Well, if offers handy features, its design is intuitive, plus it’s easy on your bank account.
How does the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Lumio rate online?
Those who bought their machine via Dolce Gusto gave the buy four out of five stars overall. Users praised its speedy delivery, smooth coffee and the selection of drinks that can be made. For these buyers, a larger water tank would have been preferable, while the need to make sure the capsule holder was fully closed was a slight drawback.
Those who bought from Currys awarded an average of 8.7 out of 10. The machine’s appearance, ease of use, and value for money got the very best scores. Users acclaimed the speedy set up, the authentic layering of the coffees, and the coffees’ taste. Some of the machine’s users would have preferred that is made hotter coffee.

What is the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Lumio by Krups?
Minimalist coffee machine design has surely reached its pinnacle with the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Lumio by Krups. With every inch of coloured plastic pared back to only what’s necessary, it’s the barely-there alternative to blocky appliances that clutter the worktop, and it takes up a minuscule amount of space physically and visually.
On a functional level, it’ll make both hot and cold drinks from Nescafé Dolce Gusto capsules, with water dispensed in amounts ranging from a petite 35ml ristretto to a generous XL size for those who like a longer drink. It’s available in black, red and white.

Nescafé Dolce Gusto Lumio – Design and features
While it’s clear that a lot of thought has been put into the Lumio’s exterior, the design is a little hard to love for its lack of practicality.
The base and drip tray serve as a narrow plinth for an insubstantial circle of plastic that then supports the more complex head of the dispensing spout and the water tank at the back. Even more puzzling is the dispensing head, which is comprised of a separate clamshell-style capsule holder that’s inserted, and a cover that pulls down to lock it in place. This is the same mechanism as on its sister machine, the Dolce Gusto Colors.
The controls are more straightforward, with a roller to scroll through water-dispensing amounts and a flick switch at the back to choose between hot and cold.
As this is such a tall coffee machine, there’s plenty of space for glasses as well as oversized mugs to fit below the spout, and there are no restrictions on cup width. Other features include a removable drip tray that’s intended to balance on the plinth to bring espresso cups closer to the spout, plus a long, brightly coloured power cord to distinguish it from your other appliances, and a generous one-litre water tank.
Nescafé Dolce Gusto Lumio – What’s it like to use?
The Lumio and I didn’t get off to a good start. Having filled it and then started it on an initial cleaning cycle, no water flowed from its spout. There wasn’t a troubleshooting guide in the instructions, but after some searching online, I found that the machine includes a tiny needle secreted in the drip tray for clearing blockages. A quick poke around the nozzle and we were back on track.
One thing in the Lumio’s favour is that it heats up incredibly quickly and is ready to make a drink in seconds, which is perfect for busy mornings. However, the bulbous water tank is awkward to fill and can’t be topped up in situ.
I started by making a ristretto with a Ristretto Ardenza pod. I tried to balance a small cup on the drip tray on the machine’s platform, but it felt precarious, so I opted for having the cup lower down. Unfortunately, this meant small splashes of coffee on the worktop, although most of the drink made it into the cup. The coffee was strong and flavourful, but the crema wasn’t as thick and oily as it should have been.
The Lumio had a good recovery time between drinks, making it useful for rounds of coffee. Next, I tried the Grande Mild capsule – a pod designed for longer coffee of around 180ml. A taller mug proved more practical than the espresso cup, with fewer splashes when dispensing and greater flexibility over the shape of the cup that could fit below the spout.
The coffee that was dispensed looked watery, however, and lacked a complex flavour. There was a good crema for a long drink, but it still tasted more like filter coffee than from a pod machine. The only clean-up required was a rinse of the pod holder and the splashes wiped away.
Nescafé Dolce Gusto Lumio – How good is the coffee?
While it may have been down to distance from the spout or the pods tested, the coffee brewed by the Lumio during this test felt like it lacked the Dolce Gusto system’s usual aroma and silky crema. Even adjusting the amount of water for the Grande Mild capsules didn’t produce an aromatic, flavourful coffee. However, the current range of 40 options encompasses everything from hot chocolate and decaf to tea and cold brews, and even a soy cappuccino, so it remains a versatile option for catering for a crowd.
Why buy the Nescafé Dolce Gusto Lumio?
It feels like the Lumio’s function has been sacrificed for the sake of design, with more fuss than needed when inserting and brewing from a capsule, and an awkwardly shaped water tank. It looks beautiful sitting out on the worktop, but the practicality of brewing an espresso, the cornerstone of any coffee machine, has been compromised by the balancing the drip tray, which makes it hard to get a small cup anywhere near the spout.
For long drink lovers, it’s a better proposition – a compact machine that doesn’t need refilling after every cycle and can accommodate the biggest mug in the cupboard. But the Nespresso Vertuo Plus produces far better long drinks, with its innovative centrifugal system.

How to better use my product
What water should I use to fill the water tank and prepare my beverage?
Tap water (normal household potable water) is perfectly OK as long as it is free of odors that might alter the taste of the beverage. Bottled water is also OK.
Do not use refrigerated or warm water as this might impact the temperature of the beverage.
Use always fresh water and replace the water if system has not been used for more than 2 days.
For cold beverages, use water at ambient temperature, never refrigerated water, and place two or more ice cubes (20g per ice cube) in the cup.
To be noticed that water hardness is the first reason of machine calcification and so it is recommended to descale the machine frequently (every 3months or less according to water hardness).
Could I leave the used capsule in the machine or should I immediately discard it?
Once beverage preparation is complete and the power button stopped blinking red (about 5s), remove and discard the capsule. Don’t keep it in the capsule holder.
Can I put milk in water tank?
No, you must not pour the water tank with milk. The system works only with water. The usage of any other liquid, like milk, can be harmful for your machine.
How could I make my beverage hotter?
The extraction of the Dolce Gusto coffee is made at an optimal temperature, so that it gives a perfect coffee. It cannot be extracted any hotter, as this would cause the coffee grounds to have a burnt taste.
If the consumers want a hotter coffee, they have several possibilities:
• Preheat the cup.
• Ensure that you always wait until the machine stops blinking during preheat of thermoblock before starting a preparation.
• Extract some water without capsule, throw the water away and proceed with the capsule afterwards.
• Descale the machine if needed (if a decrease of beverage temperature was noticed recently).
Normal temperature in cup:
• Capsules with roast and ground coffee: above 70 °C
• Capsules with soluble products: above 65 °C
Can I use the Cold function to prepare hot drinks?
No, your preparation will never be hot. In addition, this will not work, as the range of hot beverages is not designed for cold dissolution and cold consumption. It could result in a “blocked capsule”.
Can I use the Hot function to prepare cold drinks?
Cold beverages have been developed to give the best taste and the best experience for consumers when prepared with cold water.
However it is possible to prepare these cold beverages with the Hot function.
How to use my machine in full safety?
To ensure your full safety during the use of your machine, follow the “recommendations for safe use” in the manual that came with your machine.
To use your machine safely:
• Never put hot water in the water tank!
• Never open the locking handle during the preparation of a drink!
• At the end of the preparation, the ON/OFF button flashes red for about 5 seconds. Do not open the handle during this time!
• Never move the selector lever while the locking handle is open!
• Do not touch the capsule after the preparation of the drink! Hot surfaces can cause burns!
How do I use my machine for the first time?
If you just bought your machine and you use it for the first time, read the manual to help you with the first steps. You can find all machine user manuals online on this website.
To help you, here are a few lines the steps for optimal use:
1. Fill the water tank of the machine.
2. Make sure to snap the water tank in the machine.
3. Turn on your machine and wait until the LED is “green”.
4. It is necessary to purge the machine before its first use. To do this, select on the head the maximum amount of water from the machine, drop an empty container under the head of the machine and press the Cold Water position (blue button) and wait for the end of the stream. Repeat the process on the hot water position (red button). Your machine is then ready for use.
5. Fill up your water tank.
6. Add a capsule in the capsule holder.
7. Choose the appropriate water level (the amount of water is specified on each adapted beverage capsule).
8. Select Hot/Cold water depending on your drink.
9. Then wait until the LED is “green” to remove your capsule safely.
10. Throw your capsule away.
How long do I need to wait before preparing another drink?
You just need to make sure the indicator light is green in order to prepare another drink.
Maintenance and cleaning
What is the best way to descale or clean my espresso machine?
Follow the instructions in your personal instruction manual for descaling your machine as techniques vary according to the model you own.
We recommend using the descaling product provided by the manufacturer.
For a daily average usage of 4 cups and if the water is hard, we recommend descaling your machine at least every 3 months.
If you live in an area where the water is very hard, you may wish to descale more often.
Does the water tank need to be cleaned?
Yes, if it is coated with scale.
Clean it with water and/or cleaning products recommended by the device manufacturer.
This can prevent clogging in the water outlet and hygiene issues.
How often should I descale my machine?
The frequency that you should descale the machine will depend on the water hardness and how frequently you use the machine.
Over time, limescale slows the flow of water through your machine and can reduce the effectiveness of the heating element making your beverage less warm.
For medium hardness water, descaling every 3/4 months gets rid of limescale build up, keeping waterflow fast and beverage temperature within expectations.
On some models (Jovia, Oblo, Drop, Stelia, Movenza, Eclipse, Piccolo produced since end 2014) there is a descaling reminder.
Each time the consumer touches the Hot or Cold button, it is considered as an extraction. Descaling warning is based on the number of extractions and it is triggered every 300 extractions by a orange ligthing of the ON/OFF button. Machine still works but we recommend to descale it.
It is strongly recommended to descale in the following three cases:
• If you find a lower flow of water when preparing drinks.
• If the water seems colder than usual.
• If the ON/OFF button turns orange continuously.
What does descaling do to my machine?
Over time, limescale slows waterflow, can reduce the effectiveness of heating the water used to make your drinks and can finally clog the needle used to pierce the capsule and to deliver the water.
For medium hardness water, descaling every 3/4 months gets rid of limescale build up, keeping waterflow fast and beverage temperature within expectations.
For my automatic machine, the user manual states that when you descale the machine, you only use the Hot button. Then rinse with both Hot and Cold. Don’t we also need to descale the cold water pipe?
For Melody 3 FS, Circolo FS and Genio 1st generation the whole descaling process is triggered when we press the Hot button, no need to press the Cold one, both channels are descaled. It is different for other automatic machines where both buttons need to be pressed.
My capsule holder is much dirtier after Chococino and Nesquik preparation than after coffee. Why?
Chococino and Nesquik capsules contains chocolate, milk and sugar. It may leave more sticky residues than coffee. It is important to often clean the machine in order to avoid a bad smell.
Can I descale my machine with vinegar?
NO. Avoid white vinegar that can damage your machine and cause leakage.
To prolong the life of your machine, it is recommended to use the descaling kit sold on our webshop or other liquid descaling kit suitable for coffee machines.
How often should I clean my machine?
We recommend daily cleaning to make sure you will continue to enjoy the great coffee experience you deserve. For tips on daily cleaning and more, consult the user manual.
Can I put some piece of my machine in the dishwasher?
Only the capsule holder can be washed in the dishwasher. The drip tray and the water tank must be washed manually.
For my manual machine, the user manual states that when you descale the machine you only use the Hot button. Then rinse with both Hot and Cold. Don’t we also need to descale the cold water pipe?
Ideally both channels (Hot/Cold) could be descaled and this is the procedure applied for automatic machines.
However limescale build-up is not likely to happen in Cold circuit and it is very important that the majority of the descaling solution goes through the Hot channel. In order to ensure an efficient descaling of Hot channel (that is the most use), we recommend to pass the entire solution in Hot channel.
In order to have a perfect rinsing, and to avoid remaining drops of descaling solution in the connector collecting both Hot and Cold tubes, it is recommended to rinse Cold channel as well.
Technical support
What if there is water or coffee under the appliance?
Make sure that the drip-tray has not overflowed and empty if necessary.
Verify that the drip-tray is correctly positioned.
The coffee flows very slowly during operation of my Dolce Gusto machine. What should I do?
Clean the flow head of your machine using a small pin.
Consult the user manual and follow the instructions for cleaning.
What if the water does not flow?
If your appliance has not been used for several months, the pump may have difficulty restarting the water flow.
When you select a small or large cup, the pump makes a lot of noise but no drops come out.
– Remove the capsule if there is one.
– Fill the tank to the maximum with hot water (60°C).
– Turn on the machine and select the large cup.
– Take out and reposition the tank every 3 seconds. There should be air bubbles escaping from the tank valve.
– The priming is done and the water flows through the coffee outlet.
If priming is not possible after these manipulations, take the appliance to an authorized service center.
What should I do if my appliance is not working?
After following the instructions in the user manual for starting the appliance, make sure that your electrical socket is working by plugging another appliance. If it still does not work, do not try to dismantle or repair the appliance yourself, instead, take it to an approved repair centre
What should I do if the power cord of my appliance is damaged?
Do not use your appliance. To avoid any danger, have it replaced by an approved repair centre.
Why is the power button orange?
When the power button is orange instead of green, it means that the descaling warning has been triggered. This feature is available on models produced since 2014.
Each time the consumer touches the Hot or Cold button, it is considered as an extraction. Descaling warning is based on the number of extractions and it is triggered every 300 extractions by a orange ligthing of the ON/OFF button. Machine still works but we recommend to descale it.
Switch off the machine, press the power button for 5s until the power button starts blinking and the descaling mode is activated. Machine can be descaled according to the user manual available in the machine care page.
To be noticed that if the descaling mode is activated and the machine is switched off without doing the descaling, the power button will turn back to green and the counter is reset. After 300 new extractions, power button will again turn to orange.
Why the needle is removable and how can I remove it?
If the machine is not descaled on a regular basis and consumers use hard water (highly charged in calcium carbonate), the machine becomes scaly and the needle is likely clogged.
On new models, the needle can actually be removed and the main purpose is to allow consumers to clean the needle specially when it is clogged or the flow starts to decrease. This cleaning must be followed by a full descaling of the machine.
There is no flow, what should I do?
If the machine has no power or if the machine can be switched-on but the pump does not start when selecting the Hot/Cold button (no noise), there is nothing that you can do and the machine must be repaired.
If you hear the pump but there is no flow, follow the different steps:
1-Remove the capsule from capsule holder.
2-Check that there is water in water tank and that water tank is well plugged.
3-Select the cold channel, lift and put down the water tank several times and then fix it, flow should start. If not, the needle is probably clogged.
The needle must be cleaned with the cleaning tool provided with the machine and machine must be descaled.
If your machine is equipped with a removable needle (part in green), you can remove it to clean it deeply.
If after this, there is still no flow, machine must be sent to a repair centre.
Why do I sometimes get different foam levels/amount of beverage even though I always press on the same number of bars?
The amount of beverage depends on the size of the cup, the position of the drip tray, and sometimes the milk and coffee powders which are natural products that might show a small seasonality effect.
Water or liquid is leaking outside the machine during beverage preparation.
It is important to assess where this leakage is coming from (water tank, capsule holder or underneath the machine).
You can check whether it is from the water tank by pouring the water tank with water and keeping it on a table for a while (at least 30 mn). if it does not leak, it means that it is more related to the tightness of a water tube and in this case we recommend you to contact our consumer services center.
I can’t take out my capsule holder, what should I do?
Before taking out the capsule holder, make sure the selection lever is in the middle position and locking handle is lifted up.
If the locking handle is up but capsule holder can’t be removed, that means that the needle plate is probably not held in place properly and is in a wrong position. Please contact our consumer services center.
If the locking handle can’t be lifted up at end of extraction, please do not force it. The capsule might be under pressure. Wait for 20 minutes to release the pressure, lift up the locking handle, remove capsule holder and throw away the capsule. if it does not work, please contact our consumer services center.
During beverage preparation, coffee/milk is splashing out of the cup.
Adjust the cup support to the correct level in order to not be too far or too close to the beverage outlet. Use another cup size.
The beverage is coming out at an angle and not straight into the cup.
The quality of the final beverage is not impacted and can be consumed. Before preparing the next cup, clean and dry the capsule holder, particularly the beverage outlet opening.
Once I finish beverage preparation and stop the machine, there is still continuous dripping of product into the cup.
This is normal: as long as the capsule is not removed and discarded, it will continue to drip into the cup or the drip tray (once the cup is removed). The dripping lasts longer for coffee capsules than for creamer capsules. To stop dripping, remove and discard the used capsule after the light stops blinking.
Upon removal of the capsule holder and the capsule from the machine, some water/product drops are coming out from the top of the injector capsule.
It is likely that you have removed the holder from the machine too soon or has extracted a lower volume than recommended, causing this backflow. Always wait for the light to stop blinking before opening the machine.
Some drops of product are dripping out of the capsule holder as I remove the holder from the machine.
Normally, there should be no drops out of the capsule during removal from the machine and discarding. In order to minimize the risk of dripping on counter surfaces, a dedicated bin is provided with each machine purchase (except for Piccolo) and should be kept near the machine.
Water/product is dripping out of the capsule after I discarded it in the bin.
Once the beverage is delivered to the desired strength/volume, any remaining water (and some product traces) remains in the capsule in order to not dilute the taste of the beverage. Some of this remaining liquid might drip out of the capsule in the bin. The specially designed bin provided with the machine (except for Piccolo) allows for easy separation of liquid and solid waste (refer to the manual). Clean the bin regularly.
During beverage preparation, the flow is too fast or too slow.
Some products (e.g. coffee capsules) are designed to flow slower than others (e.g. creamer capsules) in order to achieve the desired cup quality. If flow is slower than normal, unblock the needle and descale the machine following the User Manual instructions.
What do the different LEDs in the machine mean?
• When you start your machine and during the rise in water temperature, the on/off button flashes red for about 30 seconds.
• When the machine is ready, the on/off button turns green.
• At the end of the preparation of the drink, the on/off button flashes red for about 5 seconds. Do not remove the capsule holder during this time!
• Eco Mode: after 5 minutes of non-use, the machine switches off automatically.
• If the on/off button flashes red/green, it means that machine has detected a lack of water. Check that the capsule is not blocked and that there is enough water in the tank before starting a new preparation.
• If the on/off button turns orange/yellow continuously (descaling warning), you should descale the machine.
For more details about the LEDs on your machine, please refer to the user manual of the machine.
Can I use a machine in countries with different voltages?
No, you can only use safely machines from countries with the same voltage. In the case the voltage is higher than the one where the machine was bought, it won’t work or the fuses will burn. In case the voltage is lower then it’s possible that the machine won’t work.
Why does the capsule holder leak on the side?
Check that the capsule holder is properly closed.
To close the capsule holder correctly, make sure you press the lid twice. The lid will then fall slightly underneath the closure of the capsule holder. Pressing the lid twice will ensure that the injector is properly inserted into the coffee cup. This allows the coffee and milk to flow through smoothly. When the lid is only pushed once, it looks like the capsule holder is seamlessly closed, but the capsule holder is still not closed correctly.

Press lid of the capsule holder once: almost seamlessly closed.
Press lid of the capsule holder twice: there is a little edge.
If the above does not work, the capsule holder is probably leaking because the injector and the water tube no longer fit together perfectly.
The machine needs to be repaired.
Various topics
What makes an authentic Espresso Coffee?
The sign of a true Espresso is the froth which is created by pressure within the machine whilst the coffee is being made. The pressure is measured in bars (from 1.5 to 19) so the higher the bar pressure the richer and thicker the froth.
How does an espresso compare to filtered coffee?
An expresso has a stronger aroma than a “normal” coffee.
In fact, an expresso can be distinguished by its rich aroma and the creamy foam on the surface of the cup.
This requires a pressure of 15 bar (achieved only by espresso machines), water heated to 90-92°C and finely ground and measured coffee (7 g per cup).
Where can I dispose of my appliance at the end of its life span?
Your appliance contains valuable materials which can be recovered or recycled. Leave it at a local civic waste collection point.
I’ve just opened my new device and I think there is a part missing. What should I do?
If you believe that one part is missing, please call Consumer Services Center and we will help you find a suitable solution.
Where can I buy accessories, consumables or spare parts for my appliance?
Please go to the “Accessories” section of the website to easily find whatever you need for your product.
What are the guarantee conditions of my appliance?
Find more detailed information in the Guarantee section of this website.
I’ve heard that the machine is equipped with an aluminum thermoblock, coated with stainless steel. Does this mean that the hot water will only be in contact with the stainless steel but not with the aluminum? I’m worried, as the aluminum in the water is bad for health.
The aluminum in the thermoblock is not in contact with water, it is only there for heat transfer purposes. The water pipes are made of stainless steel.
Is it recommended to use the machine as a water boiler?
The machine is not supposed to be used as a water boiler. Without capsule the flow is higher, the heat transfer is lower and the temperature will probably not reach the expectation of consumers.
Are there any other safety precautions I should take? I have small children and I am concerned about their safety.
We do not recommend the appliance to be used by children. This information is clearly stated in the User manual.
What is the maximum of beverages a machine can make per day?
There is no limit in the number of coffees a machine can make in a day, but consumers need to be careful not to make too many coffees in a row, because if they are continuously extracting beverages it might lead to an over-heating of specific elements of the machine resulting in error mode triggering.
What we can advise is that consumers can make 5-6 coffees in a row, but then they need to wait for a moment (1-2 minutes should be enough) before resuming extracting.
Can I change the color of the red wire of NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto® machine?
Each NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto® machine has a protective red wire which can’t be changed.
It ensures the safety of consumers that is so important to the brand of Modern Art Café: NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto®.
What is the difference between a manual and an automatic machine?
There are 2 different types of machines:
In the case of a manual machine, you are the one controling the amount of water suitable for your drink. The machine does not stop by itself and stops when you move the selection lever back to the middle position.
In the case of an automatic machine, you choose in advance the amount of water that will be delivered. The machine will stop by itself automatically.
How does the system work?
The NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto machine heats water, which is passed at high pressure – a maximum of 15 bars – through a capsule of high quality roast and ground or soluble products (milk, chocolate, etc…) depending on the capsule variety.
The coffee that is used in the capsules is made mainly of premium Arabica varieties.
The capsules are designed to deliver an even distribution of water and pressure over the coffee to ensure that flavour is maximized. This system uses pressure similar to that of professional machines.
Whilst coffee percolators operate at one bar of pressure (normal atmospheric pressure) and a number of other machines operate at no more than two bars, the NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto system can operate up to 15 bars.
Does the machine have a shelf life?
No, the machine is not a perishable item and can be used as long as it works properly.
Is the plastic hose used inside PE (Polyethylene)? PP (Polypropylene)?
Nescafé Dolce Gusto machines are carefully developed and manufactured in order to ensure the safety of our consumers and the delivery of the best in-cup beverage experience. The choice of component materials is carefully selected based on safety, durability, cleanliness and cost effectiveness. Before release for sale, all our machines are passed through stringent tests to ensure that the machine meets all safety requirements for food contact materials in all selling markets. How best to use my appliance
What kind of water should be poured into the beverage tank?
Tap water (ordinary domestic drinking water) is excellent for this purpose, as long as it does not contain odors that can change the taste of drinks. Bottled water is also suitable.
Do not use chilled or heated water as this may affect the temperature of the drink.
Always use fresh water and replace it if the system has been idle for more than 2 days.
For cold drinks, use water at room temperature, not from the refrigerator, and place two ice cubes (20 g each) or more in a glass.
It should be noted that water hardness is the main cause of calcium deposits, so it is recommended to clean the machine regularly (every 3 months or more often depending on the degree of water hardness).
Can I leave the used capsule in the car or should it be taken out immediately?
Once the drink is ready and the power button has stopped flashing red (after about 5 seconds), remove the capsule and discard it. It is not recommended to leave the capsule in the holder.
Can milk be poured into the water tank?
No, milk cannot be poured into the water tank. The system can only be filled with water. The use of any other liquid, in particular milk, may cause a malfunction.
How can you increase the temperature of the drink?
Dolce Gusto technology ensures the optimum temperature for the perfect coffee. If you raise the temperature of the drink, the ground coffee will have a burnt taste.
For those who prefer hotter coffee, there are several options:
• Preheat your cup.
• Be sure to wait until the indicator light stops flashing while the fuser is heating up before making a drink.
• Before inserting the capsule, pour some water from the machine into the cup, pour it out, then insert the capsule and prepare the drink.
• If there is scale in the machine, remove it (if you have only recently noticed a decrease in the temperature of your drinks).
Normal drink temperature in a cup:
• Roasted and ground coffee capsules: above 70 °C
• Instant coffee capsules: above 65 °C
Can I use the Cold Water function to prepare hot drinks?
No, your drink will not be hot. Also, this feature will not work as the range of hot drinks is not designed to be dissolved in cold water and consumed cold. This may result in a “Capsule locked” error.
Can the hot water function be used to make cold drinks?
Cold drinks have been specially designed to be prepared using cold water to guarantee the best possible taste.
However, these cold drinks can be prepared using the hot water function.
How to use the car safely?
To ensure maximum safety when using the machine, please refer to the “Recommendations for Safe Use” section in the Operator’s Manual.
To ensure safety when using the machine:
• Never draw hot water into the water tank!
• Never open the locking handle while a drink is being prepared!
• At the end of cooking, the power button flashes red for about 5 seconds. Do not open the locking handle at this time!
• Never move the selector lever with the locking handle open!
• Do not touch the used capsule after making a drink! Contact with hot surfaces can cause burns!
What should be done when the machine is turned on for the first time?
If you have just bought a coffee machine and are going to use it for the first time, please read the user manual. Instruction manuals for all machines can be found on our website.
Here are some suggestions for optimal use that will help you:
1. Fill the water tank.
2. Install it in the machine and click into place.
3. Turn on the machine and wait until the indicator turns green.
4. The machine must be cleaned before the first use. To do this, select the maximum amount of water, place an empty container under the outlet of the drink, press “Cold Water” (blue button) and wait until all the water has flowed. Repeat the process in the “Hot water” position (red button). Now your machine is ready to use.
5. Fill the water tank.
6. Insert the capsule into the holder.
7. Select the desired water level (the volume of water is indicated on the capsules).
8. Select “Cold/Hot water” depending on the desired drink.
9. Wait until the indicator turns green before removing the capsule.
10. Discard the used capsule.
How long should I wait before preparing the next drink?
You just need to wait for the indicator to turn green and then prepare the next drink.
Maintenance and cleaning
What is the best way to descale or clean my coffee machine?
Follow the steps in the instruction manual as the methods depend on the model you have purchased.
We recommend using the descaling agent supplied by the manufacturer.
If you make an average of 4 cups of coffee per day and if you use hard water, we recommend that you descale your machine at least every three months.
If you live in an area with very hard water, descaling should be done more frequently.
Does the water tank need to be cleaned?
Yes, if it has scale deposits.
Wash it with water and/or a cleaning agent recommended by the device manufacturer.
This will avoid blockages in the water outlet and ensure overall hygiene.
How often should scale be removed?
This depends on the hardness of the water and how often the machine is used.
Over time, scale slows down the flow of water and can reduce the efficiency of the heating element, which in turn will reduce the temperature of the drinks.
If your water is of medium hardness, it is recommended to descale every 3-4 months: this will ensure a fast water flow and optimal temperature of your drinks.
Some models (Jovia, Oblo, Drop, Stelia, Movenza, Eclipse, Piccolo from late 2014) have a descaling reminder.
Each time you press the “Hot water” or “Cold water” button, the machine considers it to be preparing a drink. The descaling warning is activated based on the number of preparations and appears after every 300 drinks. You will see an orange light on the power button. The machine will continue to run, but we recommend descaling.
Descaling is important in the following cases:
• If the water flows more slowly when making drinks.
• If the water seems colder than usual.
• If the power button is constantly flashing orange.
How does descaling affect the machine?
Over time, scale slows down the flow of water, can reduce the efficiency of heating water for making drinks, and clog the needle that pierces the capsule and allows water to pass through.
If your water is of medium hardness, it is recommended to descale every 3-4 months: this will ensure a fast water flow and optimal temperature of your drinks.
The manual for my automatic coffee machine says that only the “Hot water” button should be used to descale. Then rinse using both buttons: “Hot water” and “Cold water”. Shouldn’t the cold water pipe be descaled?
Melody 3 FS, Circolo FS and Genio 1st generation models start the entire cleaning process by pressing the Hot Water button and there is no need to press the Cold Water button. Both channels will be cleared. In other automatic machines, both buttons must be pressed.
The capsule holder is much more soiled after making Chococino and Nesquik than after making coffee. Why?
Chococino and Nesquik capsules contain chocolate, milk and sugar. They leave a stickier residue than coffee. It is important to clean your machine regularly to avoid bad odors.
Can vinegar be used to remove scale?
NO. White vinegar can cause malfunction and lead to leakage.
To prolong the life of your machine, we recommend using the descaling kit sold in our online shop or other liquid products that are suitable for coffee machines.
How often should the car be cleaned?
We recommend that you clean your machine daily to ensure that it works and that your drinks are of the highest quality. Tips for daily cleaning of the machine are given in the instruction manual.
Can the parts of the mechanism be washed in the dishwasher?
Only the capsule holder can be washed in the dishwasher. The liquid tray and water tank must be washed by hand.
The manual for my automatic coffee machine says that only the “Hot water” button should be used to descale. Then rinse using both buttons: “Hot water” and “Cold water”. Shouldn’t the cold water pipe be descaled?
It is best to descale both channels (Hot/Cold) and this is the procedure for automatic coffee machines.
However, scale build-up is almost non-existent in the cold channel, and it is very important that the majority of the decalcifier pass through the hot channel. To ensure effective descaling in the hot channel (which is the most commonly used), we recommend running all the solution through the hot channel.
To thoroughly flush the system and remove residual solution in the connector connecting the hot and cold water pipes, it is also recommended to flush the cold channel.
Technical support
Why does water or coffee appear under the appliance?
Check if the drip tray is full and drain if necessary.
Check that the drip tray is properly installed.
When using the Dolce Gusto machine, the coffee flows very slowly. What can be done?
Clean the machine head using a small needle.
Follow the cleaning instructions in the owner’s manual.
What to do if the water does not flow?
If you have not used the appliance for several months, the pump may have difficulty starting the flow of water.
If you select a small or large cup, the pump makes a lot of noise, but no water comes out.
– Remove the capsule, if present.
– Fill the tank up to the maximum level with hot water (60 °C).
– Turn on the machine and select a large cup.
– Remove and replace the reservoir every 3 seconds. Air bubbles should come out of the reservoir valve.
– Preparation is complete and water flows out of the coffee outlet nozzle.
If the machine does not prepare after these steps, take the appliance to an authorized service centre.
What to do in case of a device malfunction?
After reading the instructions for starting up the instrument in the user manual, verify that the electrical outlet is working by plugging in another device. If the device does not work, do not attempt to disassemble or repair it. Take the instrument to an authorized service center.
What should I do if the instrument’s power cable is damaged?
Do not use the device. To avoid danger, have the cable replaced at a service center.
Why is the power button flashing orange?
When the button flashes orange instead of green, it means that the scale needs to be removed. This feature is available on models from 2014.
Each time you press the “Hot water” or “Cold water” button, the machine considers it to be a drink. The descaling warning is activated based on the number of preparations and appears after every 300 drinks. You will see an orange light on the power button. The machine will continue to run, but we recommend descaling.
Turn off the machine, hold down the power button for 5 seconds until it flashes and enters cleaning mode. For descaling, see the appropriate section in the user manual.
It should be noted that if you activate the cleaning mode, but then turn off the machine without descaling, then when you turn it on again, the indicator will turn green again and the cooking counter will be reset. After another 300 drinks, the indicator will turn orange again.
Why is there a removable needle in the machine and how can I remove it?
When using hard water (high in calcium carbonate) and not cleaning regularly enough, scale builds up in the machine and the needle cavity may become clogged as a result.
The newer models have a detachable needle so that it can be removed and cleaned, especially when the water flow slows down when making drinks. After cleaning the needle, carefully descale the machine.
Fluid does not flow, what can be done?
If the machine does not turn on, or turns on but the pump does not start (and no sound is heard when the Cold/Hot water button is pressed), the machine needs repair.
If you hear the pump running but no water is flowing, try the following steps:
1-Remove the capsule from the holder.
2-Check that there is water in the reservoir and that it is correctly installed.
3-Select the “Cold water” mode, raise and lower the water tank several times, then lock it. The flow of water should be restored. If this does not happen, then the reason is most likely a contaminated needle.
It must be cleaned using the tool supplied with the machine and the machine itself must be descaled.
If your coffee machine has a removable needle (green), it can be removed and cleaned.
If the water flow is not restored after cleaning the needle, the machine needs to be repaired.
Why do I sometimes get different levels of foam/drink volume, even if I always choose the same pressure?
The volume of the drink will depend on the size of the cup, the position of the tray and sometimes the milk or coffee powder, the composition of which may vary slightly depending on the season.
Water or other liquid is leaking from the machine while a drink is being prepared.
It is important to determine where the machine is leaking (water tank, capsule holder or bottom of the machine).
To check the water tightness of the tank, fill it with water and place it on the table for at least 30 minutes. If water does not flow from it, this means that the reason is most likely a leak in the tube, in which case we recommend contacting the customer service center.
I can’t get the capsule holder. What can be done?
Before removing the capsule holder, make sure the selection lever is in the middle position and the locking handle is up.
If the locking handle is raised but the holder cannot be removed, the needle plate may not have been installed correctly. Please contact our customer service center.
If the locking handle cannot be lifted after the beverage has been prepared, do not use force. The capsule may be under pressure. Wait 20 minutes for the pressure to release, lift the locking handle, remove the capsule holder and discard the capsule. If this does not help, please contact our customer service center.
During the preparation of a drink, coffee/milk is sprayed out of the cup.
Adjust the cup holder so that it is neither too close nor too far from the drink outlet. Try a different cup size.
The drink is poured at an angle, not straight.
This does not affect the quality of the drink in any way. Before preparing the next drink, clean and dry the capsule holder, especially the opening through which the drink is poured.
When the drink is ready and the machine is stopped, the liquid continues to drip into the cup.
This is normal: if you do not remove the capsule from the machine, the liquid from the capsule will continue to drip into the cup or drip tray. When using coffee capsules, the drink may drip longer than when using beverage capsules with cream. In order for the liquid to stop dripping, you need to remove and discard the capsule immediately after the indicator stops flashing.
After removing the capsule and the capsule holder, the rest of the water/drink drips from the top of the injector.
You may have removed the holder too soon or the volume of the drink was less than recommended, causing the water to backflow. Be sure to wait until the indicator stops flashing before opening the machine.
When I remove the holder from the coffee machine, the rest of the drink drips from there.
When removing the capsule from the machine, nothing should drip out of it. To minimize the risk of dripping on the kitchen surface, the machine (except for the Piccolo model) comes with a special capsule collection box, which should be kept near the machine.
Even after the capsule is ejected into the collector, water/drink continues to drip from it.
When a drink of the desired strength and volume has been prepared, water (and drink) residues are retained in the capsule so as not to affect the taste of the drink. This residual liquid may flow into the collection. The capsule collector supplied with the machine (except for the Piccolo model) makes it easy to separate liquid from solid waste (see instruction manual). The capsule collector should be cleaned regularly.
The drink is dispensed too quickly or too slowly.
Some products (eg coffee capsules) are designed to allow water to flow through them more slowly than other products (eg beverage capsules with cream) in order to achieve optimal beverage quality. If the drink is poured more slowly than usual, clean the needle and descale following the instructions in the user manual.
What do the different indicator colors mean?
• When you turn on the machine and the water starts to heat up, the power button flashes red for approximately 30 seconds.
• When the machine is ready for use, the power button lights up green.
• When the drink is ready, the power button flashes red for about 5 seconds. Do not remove the capsule at this time!
• Eco mode: if the machine is not used for 5 minutes, it will turn off automatically.
• If the power button flashes red/green, it means that there is not enough water in the tank. Check that the capsule is installed correctly and that there is enough water in the reservoir before preparing a new drink.
• If the power button is permanently lit orange/yellow, it means that the scale needs to be descaled.
For more information about indicators, see the instruction manual.
Can the coffee machine be used in countries with different voltages?
No, the safe use of the machine can only be guaranteed in countries with the same voltage. If the voltage in your country is higher than the one where the machine was purchased, the machine will not work or the fuses will blow when the machine is turned on. If the voltage in your country is lower, then the machine may not work.
Why does the capsule holder leak on the side?
Check that the capsule holder is properly closed.
To properly close the capsule holder, press the cap twice. The lid will be slightly below the closure of the capsule holder. By pressing the cap twice, you will make sure that the injector is correctly inserted into the coffee cup. So coffee and milk will flow smoothly. If you press the lid only once, it may seem that the capsule holder is tightly closed, but it is not.
See picture below
Pressing the capsule holder cover once: almost flat surface.
If you press the cap of the capsule holder twice: there is a small protrusion.
If the above steps do not help, the capsule holder may be leaking due to not having the perfect combination of injector and water tube.
Machine needs repair.
Miscellaneous
How is real espresso coffee different?
True espresso is the crema created under pressure in the coffee machine during the preparation of the coffee. Pressure is measured in bar (from 1.5 to 19). The higher the pressure, the thicker and higher the foam.
How is espresso different from drip coffee?
Espresso has a stronger aroma than “regular” coffee.
Espresso has a rich aroma and thick foam.
To prepare this coffee, water heated to 90-92°C is passed under a pressure of 15 bar (which is only possible in automatic coffee machines) through a precisely measured amount of coffee (7 g per cup) finely ground.
How can this appliance be disposed of at the end of its useful life?
Your appliance contains valuable materials that can be recycled. Take it to the city waste collection point.
I just unpacked my new car and it looks like one of the parts is missing. What to do?

What are the terms of the warranty for my device?
For more information, see the “ Warranty ” section of this website.
I have heard that the machine is equipped with an aluminum fuser with a stainless steel coating. Does this mean that hot water will only come into contact with stainless steel and not aluminum? I am afraid that aluminum that gets into the water is harmful to health.
The aluminum in the thermoblock does not come into contact with water, it is only used for heat exchange. The water pipes are made of stainless steel.
Can the machine be used as a water heater?
No, the machine must not be used as a water heater. Without the capsule, the pressure will be stronger, but the heat transfer will be insufficient and the water temperature will most likely not meet your expectations.
Are there security measures to keep in mind? I have small children and I am concerned about their safety.
We do not recommend that children use this machine. This is clearly indicated in the instruction manual.
What is the maximum number of drinks per day that can be prepared in the machine?
There is no limit on the number of drinks per day for the coffee machine, but you should not make too many drinks in a row, as this may lead to overheating of some elements and an error.
Up to 5-6 cups of coffee can be brewed in a row, but then wait 1-2 minutes before continuing.
Can the red NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto® cord be replaced with a different colored cord?
Every NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto® coffee machine comes with a non-replaceable red security cord.
It ensures user safety and is an important part of the Modern Art Café brand: NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto®.
What is the difference between a manual and automatic coffee machine?
There are 2 different types of machines:
In the manual machine, you can control the amount of water to prepare your drink. The car does not stop by itself; it stops when you move the lever back to the intermediate position.
In an automatic machine, the amount of water for the drink is predetermined. This means that the machine will stop automatically.
How does the system work?
The NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto coffee machine heats water, which then passes under high pressure – maximum 15 bar – through a capsule containing high-quality roasted and ground or instant products (milk, chocolate, etc.) depending on the type of capsule.
The capsules use predominantly premium Arabica coffees.
Capsules are made to ensure even distribution of water and pressure in the coffee and guarantee a rich taste. The system provides the same pressure as in professional coffee machines.
The pressure in the percolator is 1 bar (normal atmospheric pressure), in some other machines the pressure does not exceed 2 bar, and in the NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto system the pressure is 15 bar.
Does the machine have an expiration date?
No, you can use it for as long as you like, provided it works properly.
What is the plastic tube inside the mechanism made of – polyethylene or polypropylene?
Nescafé Dolce Gusto coffee machines are designed and manufactured to ensure the safety of our customers and ensure that our drinks taste great. Component materials are carefully selected based on their safety, strength, purity and economy. Before being put on the market, all of our machines are subject to mandatory testing to ensure that they comply with all safety regulations regarding food contact materials in all markets. This is why we can assure our customers that any Nescafé Dolce Gusto drink made with a Nescafé Dolce Gusto machine is compliant, safe to drink, and based on the wishes expressed in the consumer research process.

How best to use my device
What kind of water should be used in the beverage container?
Tap water (ordinary domestic drinking water) is excellent for this purpose, provided it does not contain odors that can change the taste of drinks. Bottled water is also suitable.
Do not use chilled or heated water as this may affect the temperature of the drink.
Always use fresh water and replace it if the system has been idle for more than 2 days.
For cold drinks, use water at room temperature, not from the refrigerator, and put two ice cubes (20 g each) or more in a glass.
It should be noted that water hardness is the main cause of calcium deposits, so it is recommended to clean the machine regularly (every 3 months or more often depending on the degree of water hardness).
Can the used capsule be left in the machine or does it need to be removed immediately?
Once the drink is ready and the power button has stopped flashing red (after about 5 seconds), remove the capsule and discard it. It is not recommended to leave the capsule in the holder.
Can milk be poured into the water tank?
No, milk cannot be poured into the water tank. The system can only be filled with water. The use of any other liquid, in particular milk, may cause a malfunction.
How can I increase the temperature of a drink?
Dolce Gusto technology ensures the optimum temperature for perfect coffee.
Normal cup temperature:
• Roasted and ground coffee capsules: above 70 °C
• Instant coffee capsules: above 65 °C
Can I use the cold water function to prepare hot drinks?
No, your drink will not be hot. Also, this feature will not work as the range of hot drinks is not designed to be dissolved in cold water and consumed cold. This may result in a “Capsule locked” error.
Can the hot water function be used to prepare cold drinks?
Cold drinks have been specially designed to be prepared using cold water to guarantee the best possible taste.
However, these cold drinks can be prepared using the “Hot water” function.
How to use the machine safely?
To ensure maximum safety when using the machine, please refer to the “Recommendations for Safe Use” section in the Operator’s Manual.
To ensure safety when using the machine:
• Never draw hot water into the water tank!
• Never open the locking handle while a drink is being prepared!
• At the end of cooking, the power button flashes red for about 5 seconds. Do not open the locking handle at this time!
• Never move the selector lever with the locking handle open!
• Do not touch the used capsule after making a drink! Contact with hot surfaces can cause burns!
What should I do when I turn on the machine for the first time?
How long do I have to wait before preparing the next drink?
Just wait until the indicator turns green and then prepare the next drink.
Instrument care and cleaning
What is the best way to descale or clean my coffee machine?
Follow the steps in the instruction manual as the methods depend on the model you have purchased.
We recommend using the descaling agent supplied by the manufacturer.
If you make an average of 4 cups of coffee per day and if you use hard water, we recommend that you descale your machine at least every three months.
If you live in an area with very hard water, descaling should be done more frequently.
Do I need to clean the water tank?
Yes, if it is covered with scale.
Wash it with water and/or a cleaning agent recommended by the device manufacturer.
This will avoid blockages in the water outlet and ensure overall hygiene.
How often should I descale?
This depends on the hardness of the water and how often the machine is used.
Over time, scale slows down the flow of water and can reduce the efficiency of the heating element, which in turn will reduce the temperature of the drinks.
If your water is of medium hardness, it is recommended to descale every 3-4 months: this will ensure a fast water flow and optimal temperature of your drinks.
Some models (Jovia, Oblo, Drop, Stelia, Movenza, Eclipse, Piccolo from late 2014) have a descaling reminder.
Each time you press the “Hot water” or “Cold water” button, the machine considers it to be a drink. The descaling warning is activated based on the number of preparations and appears after every 300 drinks. You will see an orange light on the power button. The machine will continue to run, but we recommend descaling.
The capsule holder gets much more dirty after making Chococino and Nesquik than after making coffee.
To prolong the life of your machine, it is recommended to use the descaling kit sold in our online shop or other liquid products that are suitable for coffee machines.
How often should the machine be cleaned?
We recommend that you clean your machine daily to ensure that it works and that your drinks are of the highest quality. Tips for daily cleaning of the machine are given in the instruction manual.
Can the machine parts be washed in a dishwasher?
Only the capsule holder can be washed in the dishwasher. The liquid tray and water tank must be washed by hand.
The manual for my automatic coffee machine says that only the “Hot water” button should be used to descale. Then rinse using both buttons: “Hot water” and “Cold water”. Shouldn’t the cold water pipe be descaled?
It is best to descale both channels (Hot/Cold) and this is the procedure for automatic coffee machines.
However, hardly any scale builds up in the cold channel, and it is very important that the bulk of the decalcifier pass through the hot channel.
Coffee flows very slowly when using the Dolce Gusto machine. What can be done?
Clean the machine head using a small needle.
Follow the cleaning instructions in the instruction manual.
What should I do if the device malfunctions?
After reading the instructions for starting up the instrument in the user manual, verify that the electrical outlet is in working order by connecting another device to it.
If the machine does not turn on, or turns on but the pump does not start (and no sound is heard when the Cold/Hot Water button is pressed), then the machine needs repair.
It must be cleaned using the tool supplied with the machine, and the machine itself must be descaled.
If your coffee machine has a removable needle (green), it can be removed and cleaned.
If the water flow is not restored after cleaning the needle, the machine needs to be repaired.
Why do I sometimes get different levels of foam/drink volume even if I always choose the same pressure?
The volume of the drink will depend on the size of the cup, the position of the tray and sometimes the milk or coffee powder, the composition of which may vary slightly depending on the season.
Water or other liquid is leaking from the machine while preparing a drink.
It is important to determine where the machine is leaking (water tank, capsule holder or bottom of the machine).
To check the water tightness of the tank, fill it with water and place it on the table for at least 30 minutes. If water does not flow from it, it means that the problem is most likely in the tightness of the tube, in which case we recommend contacting the customer service center.
Coffee/milk squirts out of the cup during beverage preparation.
Adjust the cup holder so that it is neither too close nor too far from the beverage outlet. Try a different cup size.
Drink is poured at an angle instead of straight.
After removing the capsule and capsule holder, water/drink residue drips from the top of the injector.
You may have removed the holder too soon or the volume of the drink was less than recommended, causing the water to backflow. Be sure to wait until the indicator stops flashing before opening the machine.
When I take the holder out of the coffee machine, some coffee drips out.
When removing the capsule from the machine, nothing should drip from it. To minimize the risk of dripping on the kitchen surface, the machine (except for the Piccolo model) comes with a special capsule collection box, which should be kept near the machine.
Even after the capsule is ejected into the container, water/drink continues to drip from the capsule.
Drink dispensed too quickly or too slowly.
Some products (eg coffee capsules) are designed to allow water to flow through them more slowly than other products (eg soft drink capsules with cream) to achieve optimal beverage quality. If the drink is poured more slowly than usual, clean the needle and descale following the instructions in the user manual.
What do the different indicator colors mean?
• When you turn on the machine and the water starts to heat up, the power button flashes red for about 30 seconds.
Can the coffee machine be used in countries with other voltages?
No, the safe use of the machine can only be guaranteed in countries with the same voltage. If the voltage in your country is higher than the one where the machine was purchased, the machine will not work or the fuses will blow when the machine is turned on. If the voltage in your country is lower, then the machine may not work.
Why does the capsule holder leak on the side?
Check that the capsule holder is properly closed.
Press the cap twice to close the capsule holder correctly.
Pressure is measured in bars (from 1.5 to 19). The higher the pressure, the thicker and higher the foam.
How is espresso different from drip coffee?
Espresso has a more pronounced aroma than “regular” coffee.
Espresso has a rich aroma and thick foam.
To prepare this coffee, water heated to 90-92°C, is passed under a pressure of 15 bar (which is only possible in automatic coffee machines) through a precisely measured amount of coffee (7 g per cup) finely ground.
How can I dispose of this instrument at the end of its useful life?
Your appliance contains valuable materials that can be recycled. Take it to the city waste collection point.

What grade of stainless steel is used in the manufacture of the machine, 304 or 316?

The capsule holder gets much more dirty after making Chococino and Nesquik than after making coffee.
To ensure effective descaling in the hot channel (which is the most commonly used), we recommend running all the solution through the hot channel.
To thoroughly flush the system and remove residual solution in the connector connecting the hot and cold water pipes, it is also recommended to flush the cold channel.

No, the machine must not be used as a water heater. Without the capsule, the pressure will be stronger, but the heat transfer will be insufficient and the water temperature will most likely not meet your expectations.
Are there security measures to be aware of? I have small children and I am concerned about their safety.
We do not recommend that children use this machine. This is clearly indicated in the instruction manual.
What is the maximum number of drinks per day that can be prepared in the machine?
There is no limit on the number of drinks per day for the coffee machine, but you should not make too many drinks in a row, as this may lead to overheating of some elements and an error.
Up to 5-6 cups of coffee can be brewed in a row, but then wait 1-2 minutes before continuing.
Can the red NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto® cord be replaced with a different color cord?
Every NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto® coffee machine comes with a non-replaceable red security cord.
It ensures user safety and is an important part of the Modern Art Café brand: NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto®.
What is the difference between manual and automatic coffee machines?
There are 2 different types of machines:
In the manual machine, you can control the amount of water to prepare your drink. The car does not stop by itself; it stops when you move the lever back to the intermediate position.
In an automatic machine, the amount of water for the drink is predetermined. This means that the machine will stop automatically.
How does the system work?
The NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto coffee machine heats water, which then passes under high pressure – maximum 15 bar – through a capsule with high quality roasted and ground or instant product (milk, chocolate, etc.) depending on the type of capsule.
The capsules use mainly premium Arabica coffees.
Capsules are made to ensure even distribution of water and pressure in the coffee and guarantee a rich taste. The system provides the same pressure as in professional coffee machines.
The percolator has a pressure of 1 bar (Normal Atmospheric Pressure), some other machines have pressures below 2 bar and the NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto system has a pressure of 15 bar.
Does the machine have an expiration date?
No, you can use it for as long as you like, provided that it works properly.
Is the plastic tube inside the mechanism made of polyethylene or polypropylene?

It is best to descale both channels (Hot/Cold) and this is the procedure for automatic coffee machines.
However, hardly any scale builds up in the cold channel, and it is very important that the bulk of the decalcifier pass through the hot channel.
Coffee flows very slowly when using the Dolce Gusto machine. What can be done?
Clean the machine head using a small needle.
Follow the cleaning instructions in the instruction manual.
What should I do if the device malfunctions?
After reading the instructions for starting up the instrument in the user manual, verify that the electrical outlet is in working order by connecting another device to it.
If the machine does not turn on, or turns on but the pump does not start (and no sound is heard when the Cold/Hot Water button is pressed), then the machine needs repair.
Coffee/milk squirts out of the cup during beverage preparation.
Adjust the cup holder so that it is neither too close nor too far from the beverage outlet. Try a different cup size.
Drink is poured at an angle instead of straight.
I have just unpacked my new car and it looks like one of the parts is missing. What to do?
If you think any parts are missing, call Customer Service and we will help you find a suitable solution.
What are the terms of the warranty for my device?
For more information, see the “ Warranty ” section of this website.
I have heard that the machine is equipped with a stainless steel coated aluminum fuser.
