Decorating a green living room: 60 Green Interior Design Ideas (Green Room Designs)

12 Ways to Decorate With Green in the Living Room

Lauren Bamford; Design: Robson Rak

Although minimal, crisp, all-white rooms will never go out of style, it’s not the only look to model your home after. If you’re itching for a pop of color, consider diving into the color wheel for an unexpected shade of green. “Green is one of the freshest and chicest colors,” according to Decorist celebrity designer Jonathan Rachman. Not only is the bold color decidedly stylish, but it’s also rather in vogue. “It’s definitely gaining attention,” Rachman continues.

While you can certainly incorporate the hue in your living room by painting the walls (or just one accent wall) green, there are other ways to play with the color that don’t require a paintbrush or roller. Source bold furniture like accent chairs and coffee tables in varying shades of green. Hang art on the wall that features the grassy hue. Simpler yet, thoughtfully position real or faux plants throughout the living room for just a hint of the natural color. There are so many different options for shades of green, Rachman points out.

Get inspired by these green living rooms and find a way to feature the color in your home that best suits your personal style.

If you’re not ready to commit to painting the living room walls green, opt to include a simple piece of furniture in a shade that will subtly stand out among the rest of your décor.

“You can do so much with green besides just using green paint or fabrics,” Rachman explains. In this chic living room, modern coffee tables in a shiny lime green add just the right amount of color and contrast beautifully with the light blue couch and gray rug.

For those bold enough to put paint on the walls, start small with a single accent wall in a deep shade of green. If you’re looking to make a real statement, take a page from this striking living room and don’t just paint the walls but the fireplace and cabinetry as well. Keep the rest of the furniture in the room neutral to maintain a refined look.

A rich green wall color adds another element of design to this beachy living room. It also plays beautifully off of the vintage bamboo chair and ottoman with similarly colored cushions. When using multiple shades of green in one room, Rachman recommends looking for complementary colors. “Be sure the shades complement and support each other and are not struggling or fighting against one another,” he says.

This bright and airy green living room incorporates multiple elements of the color seamlessly, playing with patterns and textures. To keep a space looking refined even with multiple green aspects, just be sure to keep them in the same shade family, Rachman suggests. “Playing with the scales of your green items can be whimsical yet elegant also,” he adds. The way the large patterned wallpaper works with the muted green curtains and subtle green elements of the couch in this room is proof of that.

If you want to draw attention to a space, paint the walls a rich shade of deep blue-green. “It instantly creates an airy but bold and interesting statement,” according to Rachman. Again, the use of complementary colors like the olive green chair and ochre throw pillow in this living room help tie together the bold look.

For a more subdued approach, pick a shade of green paint that’s not so bold. In this Scandinavian-inspired room, a light gray-green paint color works as a neutral element of the space and doesn’t distract the eye. “Just remember to always follow your gut instinct,” Rachman says. If you’re not ready for bright colors, stick with what feels most aligned with your style.

Jessica Helgerson Interior Design

Another clever way to incorporate the color green in a living room, this space features two light green curved couches, a tall cactus, a bright painting, and an iridescent round mirror that reflects shades of green and blue from above the mantel. Pick accent pieces carefully to make even a room that’s painted white exude the fresh hue.

Brittany Ambridge

“A lot of people are scared to use everything green in a room, but if you choose wisely and pick the shades just right, they can be stunning,” Rachman explains. This eclectic living room certainly includes a variety of green elements, including accent chairs, wall paint, and art, yet the different shades work beautifully together. Complement a green wall in your home with the addition of a simple work of art with green elements.

“Commit and be confident when you use the color green,” Rachman urges. Don’t be afraid to pair light green paint with rich olive green couches like this spacious and light-filled space. It feels fresh and revitalizing without overpowering the senses with too many different green elements.

Pair an elegant, bold sofa with a natural shade of green on the surrounding walls for a stylish, modern take on the trend. You can also include more green elements like a simple potted plant to tie the space together.

Something as simple as a pair of green chairs can completely alter the design of a room. This A-frame living room is a stunning example of how green accent pieces can play off of one another without taking away from a fresh white paint color and neutral furnishings. Here, the olive green chairs and coffee table plant complement each other as well as the brass lighting elements, and rustic, white wood-beamed ceiling.

This light-filled green living room looks fresh and inviting thanks to the mint green paint color with neutral details. “Adding off-white colors that support your green can be extremely classic,” according to Rachman. He also suggests playing with different paint finishes in one room. “You’ll be surprised how layered green can look when done in various finishes.”

SUMMER LIVING ROOM DECORATING – CitrineLiving

There’s just something about summer isn’t there? Open doors, fresh air, green foliage. Bright colors, woven textures. A relaxed, casual elegance. A color palette of beautiful blues, gorgeous greens, shades of white, combined with natural textures and elements – I think this is my favorite seasonal decor to date and I’m so excited to share my summer living room decorating with you today.

I’m also thrilled to be joining an amazing group of talented bloggers, for our 2020 Summer Home Tour, hosted by the very talented Marty, of A Stroll Thru Life. Thank you, Marty for inviting me to join! I’m sharing this week’s full lineup at the bottom of my post.

If you’re visiting me from Erica, of Designing Vibes and her beautiful summer tour, welcome! I love Erica’s fabulous boho-chic style, she makes it look so effortless and is so talented! We met in person a few years ago and she is as gorgeous on the outside as she is kind and humble on the inside. You’ll love her!

I hope you enjoy this post and my summer living room decorating (it’s a long one, sorry!) and find some inspiration while you’re here, I’m so thrilled to have you!

I’d like to extend a huge thank you to Safavieh, Coterie Home and Lauren Haskell Designs for gifting product for our living room. Affiliate links are provided throughout this post  – see my full disclosure policy here.

SUMMER LIVING ROOM DECORATING

First things first – if you’re a regular reader, can you spot what’s new?? Our gorgeous hand-loomed jute rug from Safavieh! I’ve been wanting a natural woven rug in our living room for so long, and this one, from Safavieh’s Natural Fibre Collection, could not be more perfect. Truly.

The relaxed, beachy vibe, the beautiful natural texture, that chic pattern – it’s a perfect fit in our space (this is 9 x 12). I love the relaxed elegance it brings to our home. It feels great underfoot, and luckily, our lionhead bunny, Oscar hasn’t decided to feast on it yet (he roams free around the house), ha! That was a real concern but so far, so good, thankfully! We love the tone it sets for this space and I’m so happy with the gorgeous look.

You may also notice some new additions to my ginger jar collection from Lauren Haskell Designs.  I added a few small touches with the prettiest blue and gorgeous green throughout our living room.

Both are custom colors from the chart available on the Lauren’s site, Lo Home (Green SC-43 + Blue FN-031), which excites me even more! There are so many styles of jars and options to choose from on her site, there’s something for everyone.

I just wish I had even more of these vibrant beauties. I gathered many of my ginger jars together on our mirrored buffet to create a beautiful, statement-making vignette. So pretty!

If you know me, then you know about my love for beautiful pillows too. I’m always adding new ones to my roster and rotating my favorites. This season, I found these beautiful floral pillows from Coterie Home, and these gorgeous sky blue solid frame pillows from Lauren Haskell in the softest, prettiest shade of blue.

Jenny Tamplin, of Coterie Home, was so amazing helping me choose the right pillows for my summer theme, and her site is full of so many gorgeous and chic pieces. The floral pillows were the jumping off point for my summery blue and green color palette, and this large-scale, floral pattern, Davenport by Kravet, was the ideal print to help bring my vision to life.

These pillows are truly exquisite and the floral is gorgeous together with the soft blue – the combination plus all of the other touches of blue, green and natural elements in here, make my heart so happy!

I’m going to have some trouble changing things up this fall. I could keep this look year round that’s for sure.

I’ve said it many times, I need to move south, preferably near the ocean. Florida is calling! Or California, I would gladly take either one!

SUMMER DECORATING ON OUR BOOKSHELVES

I love symmetry – one of the fundamental elements of classic design. Something about it just makes me happy. Maybe it’s my OCD tendencies for everything to be just right, ha! I love the way it creates calm and a gives sense of tranquility to any space.

We built our bookshelves in here to do just that and also to create a focal point. I always style them with a symmetrical sensibility, using it where I can and balancing it out with some asymmetry also.

I wanted to bring in a few touches of greenery, sprinkled around our shelves. I used woven baskets with some faux greenery stems (similar here and here) and a mix of different sized dried moss balls, which by the way, I love!

They’re a great way to add greenery without having to only use real or faux stems. They look great gathered in a bowl just about anywhere.

Aren’t these punchy blue ginger jars (custom color FN-031) just fabulous? Love them paired with my pale blue jars, blue and white chinoiserie pieces and gorgeous green touches.

I’ve decorated these shelves many different ways, and for my summer living room decorating, I wanted to bring in a touch more color. My favorite tried-and-true blue and white pieces always work, and with the added greens, it’s the perfect summery feel.

Warm, neutral-toned pieces, like my horses, decorative inlay box, wood and brass candleholders and gold frames (which I often have styled here), balance out all the blues and are a gorgeous compliment to our new rug. Did I mention how much I I love this rug?

SUMMER DECORATING ON OUR OTTOMAN

I came close to recovering our ottoman in something pale blue to match the pillows and add a pop of color, but in the end I decided to leave it as is.

This piece has had a few different coverings, and this one from Tonic Living is my favorite so far. I used the same fabric to recover our kitchen stools recently (click here to see them), and they look so good!

Admittedly, I don’t change the decor on our ottoman that much from season to season. It’s usually styled with blue and white, real or faux flowers, books and pretty objects that I love. I’ll swap out a couple of things each season, or change the books depending on my color palette, but mostly it stays the same.

I wanted to create a large-scale floral arrangement to make a strong summer statement. I found these beautiful snowball hydrangea stems at Michael’s. I love them in my blue and white vase.

I used 19 stems (I would have used more if they had more!), and by bending the stems downward and separating them, it creates a full, beautiful arrangement.

My new vibrant green ginger jar is such a pretty addition on our ottoman too! This custom color (SC-43) is perfect and paired with the blue it is so beautiful, don’t you think? The only thing I’m missing is a woven tray. I had no time to source one, but I still love my gold leaf tray that I refinished years ago. I think it’s time for a little refresh since it’s pretty chippy looking lately, but I still love it.

You can see a peek at our entryway, where there’s some small updates happening in there too – stay tuned!

photos in the interior, tips for choosing green wallpaper, design ideas for a living room, bedroom, kitchen Botanical prints are also in trend – banana leaves, ferns, grass.

All shades of green have a positive effect:

  • relax
  • relieve tension in the eyes
  • cheer up
  • energize
  • relieve anxious thoughts.

Classic, herbal green and olive make for relaxation, suitable for everyone who loves harmony and tranquility. In the living room of a temperamental and active person, rich green wallpapers – kiwi, jade, menthol are appropriate. Depth of tone and companion colors also affect the atmosphere, so let’s look at different shades of green.

Green color and features of room

  • Deep dark green or emerald color accentuates the luxurious setting of a large living room with classic dark brown furniture. For example, wallpaper with vertical stripes in a similar color will allow you to decorate a room expensively and tastefully.
  • Meanwhile, in a small room with small windows, light green wallpaper will look more harmonious, which makes the space more free.
  • Each living area has a different shade of green. Especially carefully you should choose the color of the wallpaper for the bedrooms. Relax and relieve tension muted tones – olive, sea wave. nine0008

An original way to decorate a bedroom

  • In a small nursery, you can highlight one wall with bright green wallpaper or make inserts with moldings. A contrasting accent will visually increase the area and make the interior more interesting.
  • If the room is located on the north side of the house – pick up wallpaper with a warm green-yellow tint – a color close to ocher.
  • Wallpaper, such as non-woven wallpaper, can also be used to decorate the ceiling. Different shades will allow you to divide the living room-studio, while there should not be a lot of light green tones, and mint or olive colors can dominate. nine0008

Wallpaper in combination with other interior colors

Green harmoniously combines with other natural colors. The most comfortable combinations for the eyes are often found in nature: green with white, green with woody, green with yellow.

Colors that go with green

Nature perfectly combines bright colors with more subtle ones, but when decorating an interior, it is important to choose the right depth of colors.

For example, light green and cooler greens should be used in moderation and combined with warm colors such as brown and red. A nursery for a girl can be stylishly decorated with light green wallpapers and pink accessories. nine0003

Children’s room

In addition, golden and wooden picture frames look elegant on the light green wall.

Wallpaper in pastel colors – pistachio, yellow-green – beautiful
background for interior in Provence or romantic style. pale green combination
and white will make the space free and light. And thanks to chocolate or
chestnut accents, these colors will look elegant. And the deeper
brown shade, the lighter the green should be.

A spacious room with dark green wallpaper looks noble and expensive. The color of emerald is one of the colors of chic classic interiors, a favorite among connoisseurs of harmony and tranquility.

Saturated green tones are also appropriate in baroque and neoclassical styles, in combination with golden, beige, burgundy, black elements.

Design: architect Tatyana Vakueva

Emerald and similar expensive classic colors may be present in small quantities in modern youth or avant-garde interiors. In this case, the colors of green are used to decorate the accent wall.

The latest minimalist projects also use black and green wallpaper, the color of basalt. But only in spacious rooms, and only to highlight one work area. The more black, the stricter the interior looks.

Fashionable wallpaper design

Stylish wallpaper – plain or printed?

Modern, trendy design ideas value minimalism and simplicity, and plain wallpaper is always appropriate. Thanks to the depth and richness of one green tone, the living room becomes stylish and self-sufficient.

Combination of classics and modernity

At the same time, wall designs with flowers and original tropical prints are in fashion, which create a summer mood in the room. A large and bright pattern on the walls – palm leaves or creepers – visually makes the room taller and can become the main detail of the style, a reference point for selecting other details of the situation. nine0003

An example of how to green an interior without plants

Plain and printed wallpaper can be combined to highlight areas
in the children’s room or living room. Canvases with floral ornaments will harmoniously
look on a separate wall with open shelving.

Green murals in the design project

Wallpaper with a picture of nature, for example, grass and flowers, helps to solve a number of design tasks – visually stretch the room, gracefully highlight one accent wall. nine0003

A stylish way to update your bedroom

Photo wallpapers with landscapes, photographs of parks and tropical resorts have recently returned to fashion. They give the interior depth, make a small room spacious. But in the living area, decorated with such canvases, there should be simple miniature furniture and a minimum of additional decor.

In the interior of the living room

Living room in green tones is associated with classical European style, expensive and harmonious. Walls of a deep green hue were in the homes of English aristocrats. nine0003

Design: Tatyana Vakueva

There are ready-made historical solutions on how to decorate the living room walls to make the room look spacious and not gloomy. For example:

  • On one wall there can be wallpaper with vertical green and contrasting stripes, on the rest – plain dark green.
  • Only the lower part of the walls can be pasted over with striped wallpaper, and for the upper part you can choose a harmonious color – blue or white.
  • Wallpaper with a golden pattern always creates a pleasant festive atmosphere, ideal for friendly meetings. nine0008
  • Spacious living room will be homely cozy if you complement the strict green background with objects of milky color, yellow, beige or blue.
  • A small living room can be decorated in country or Provence style by choosing wallpaper in white and green checkered or plain light green.

In the bedroom and nursery

In the bedroom there should be a pleasant soft shade of wallpaper that relieves tension and fatigue, restrains emotions. The green color you like will also cheer you up when you wake up. nine0003

Choose natural tones such as pistachio, herbal or olive. In a spacious seating area, you can combine green wallpaper and, for example, beige.

A calm, natural tone should also dominate in a child’s bedroom. But the wall of the play area can be decorated in rich green, which evokes energy.

In a toddler’s room, you can use light olive or pale green wallpaper, even close to white – colors for restful sleep. In a stylish teenage room, on the contrary, bright mint accents, a combination of light green and red prints or accessories are appropriate. nine0003

Design: Maria Makhmudova

Useful shade for kitchen walls

Green shade is very useful in the kitchen, as it normalizes digestion.

Green wallpaper in warm tones will look harmonious in the dining area. The work nook can also have soft leafy tones that will make kitchen work less tiring.

Design: Maria Makhmudova

In a spacious kitchen-studio, green wallpaper can be perfectly combined with sand, yellow, beige or light brown. nine0003

The colors red and orange, which stimulate a healthy appetite, can also be used sparingly in such a room. But it should be borne in mind that the bright scarlet color enhances the green. Therefore, if the main color is a rich green, the accents can be pale red.

Trendy interior styles

Greenish tint has long been recognized as the color of harmony, prosperity and wealth. Saturated colors: malachite, emerald – prevailed in rich houses in the era of classics, romanticism. nine0003

Dark green wallpaper will create the right atmosphere in an interior decorated in a certain historical style: classic, baroque or gothic. The peculiarity of such interiors is ostentatious luxury: large chandeliers, large vases.

Olive color can become a hallmark of the French classic interior. And green wallpaper with patterns on the walls is part of the elegant Art Deco style.

Interior close to French

Colonial and eco-style also favor the abundance of saturated colors that prevail in nature. The combination of green with wooden carved or wicker furniture is the main thing in natural style. nine0003

Colonial-style room

Very close to ecological tropical style. His markers are similar – items made of natural wood, indoor palm trees and themed wall murals.

Bright wallpaper in emerald or khaki colors can become the basis of a colorful oriental style.

Bright design idea

Shabby chic and country style, styles in which coziness is more important than ostentation, on the contrary, favor pale, pastel green shades and their combination with white, baby blue or pink. nine0003

Country style bedroom

The newest style – techno, progressive style – also cleverly uses the natural and comfortable color of the grass. The decor of a modern room with new appliances, chrome details will complement the gray-green wallpaper or coniferous color.

Trendy wallpaper design

Finally, green walls can become the basis of a nautical-style interior. Especially those shades that are associated with the breeze, the sea. The style requires a harmonious combination of green with blue, blue, turquoise and white. nine0195

Curtains for the room

Versatile colors for curtains in green-dominated rooms – beige, white and grey.

Scandinavian decoration

Green walls will also be combined with curtains in marine shades – blue, turquoise or more vibrant green.

Country decor

If your room has pale green wallpaper, choose curtains in a more saturated color to make the interior more dynamic.

Green wallpaper for living rooms

A few years ago, the use of wallpaper to decorate the living room was considered a relic of the past and was practically not used by designers. However, over time, designers and home owners have realized that wallpaper is not only practical and economical, but also stylish and elegant. nine0003

There are a large number of wallpapers in various tones and shades, decorated with ornaments, drawings and patterns of various shapes and sizes. Green color is no exception, many design companies offer their own branded wallpaper in green tones, which are perfect for decorating the interior both in the living room and in other rooms of the house or apartment.

For example, Grasscloth offers a wide range of wallpapers in rich and neutral shades of green, both plain and patterned.

Creative and original living rooms in greens and shades

A stylish green living room can be created not only by painting the walls of the room with green paint or using green wallpaper, but also by adding green furniture, interior items and accessories to the room in accordance with the chosen style of the room, which will make the living room original and unusual. nine0003 So, for example, green curtains or curtains on the window can transform and decorate the living room in a house or apartment in one minute.

The designers at Chelle Design Group have created a truly unique and original living room in a small modern town house.
