Will Smith’s home in California where he lives with his family.

Houses of stars and celebrities are often interesting not only for the fact that one or another person lives in them, but also for their very appearance. Approximately such a situation has developed with the house of Will Smith (Will Smith) and his family. Let the house itself be built about ten years ago, but still it would be unfair not to talk about it.

Will and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith became interested in adobe houses from Californian architect Stephen Samuelson back in the 1990s. After Will Smith visited Gene Hackman’s Samielson home in Santa Fe and saw photographs of another adobe home owned by Carol Burnett, the architect’s choice was final.

The Smiths purchased a ranch in the Santa Monica Mountains of California as a site for their future home, as well as several forest areas around the ranch. A secluded location near a small town with picturesque landscapes around it provided an ideal start for a future project.

A feature of Stephen Samuelson’s approach to the construction of the Smith House was that most of the work was done by hand. That is, literally hundreds of master builders, carpenters, blacksmiths and seamstresses were involved in the project. The figure seems exaggerated, but given that the area of the house was more than 2300 square meters, it becomes clear that it is quite real. Absolutely all the details of the situation in the house of Will Smith are made by hand. Of course, you can also find antique items here. For example, the front door of the house was once the gate of an Indian fort and, like many other accessories, it came home as a souvenir. Jada Smith has a thing for doors in general, so even to imagine that the house could have ordinary doors is simply impossible: this is the first joint house of the couple that they built together, and everything here must be special, especially the doors, because they symbolize a new stage in life.

The house designed by Samuelson turned out to be winding, with continuous lines flowing one into another. There are a lot of secluded places here, which is not surprising with an area of more than two thousand square meters per five people.

Traditional upscale adobe home stucco applied in three coats looks perfect in its imperfection and is the perfect backdrop for all sorts of handcrafted curiosities from Persia, Morocco, Spain and India. The old ceiling beams that once supported the roof of the former ranch, handmade wrought iron railings and outlandish patterned masonry on the floor made of natural river stone complemented the image quite well.

Designer Waldo Fernandez assisted the architects in decorating the house, but the image we see today has changed significantly since the completion of construction. Judith Lance was brought in to detail the spacious star home of the Will Smith family. She had to work with an already formed and painted building, which needed to be saturated with decorative elements so that it looked organic and complete. At the same time, the decorator was put in a rigid framework: to use only handmade items. In such a situation, catalogs of tribal jewelry and jewelry came to the rescue, which gave a lot of ideas and ready-made solutions for decoration, although, nevertheless, it was not possible to find ready-made solutions in the full sense of the word, and all the elements had to be made by hand.

And now let’s count again 2300 square meters and over 500 unique interior decoration items, all handmade. Yes, there would indeed be something to do for several hundred workers.

Billionaire Rybolovlev bought a house from movie star Will Smith

For the former owner of Uralkali, this is the third high-profile deal with foreign real estate

Mansion in Hawaii, the star of the films “Independence Day”, “Ali” and “Men in Black” Will Smith and his wife, actress and singer Jada Pinkett-Smith sold in December 2011. The house was not put up for public auction, so the name of the new owner was then kept secret. As Forbes found out, Russian businessman Dmitry Rybolovlev turned out to be a generous buyer. For the mansion, which in 2009was bought by an actor for $13.5 million, the new owner offered $20 million, wrote The Wall Street Journal. According to the publication, the subject of the transaction was a one-story house with an area of about 205 square meters. m with three bedrooms and three bathrooms. It is located on 2.8 hectares of land overlooking the beach, where there is a swimming pool, tennis and volleyball courts.

Two of his acquaintances told Forbes that it was Rybolovlev who became the buyer. The representative of the entrepreneur did not comment on this information, the employees of the PR agency 42 West, representing the interests of Will Smith, did not respond to a request from Forbes.

In the ranking of the richest businessmen in Russia, 46-year-old Rybolovlev ranks 13th. At the heart of his fortune (according to Forbes, in 2012 it amounted to $ 9 billion) is the Uralkali company. Rybolovlev bought up its shares during privatization at voucher auctions and investment competitions, he consolidated a controlling stake in 2000. Ten years later, he sold a little more than 60% of Uralkali’s shares for $6.3 billion to a pool of investors led by Suleiman Kerimov (No. 19 on the Forbes list, worth $6.5 billion). The deal was preceded by an accident at Uralkali’s oldest mine and an investigation into its causes, started by the then Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin.

After selling the company, Rybolovlev settled in Monaco. Since then, he has acquired a stake (now about 5%) in the Bank of Cyprus and the Monaco Football Club. All other transactions of Rybolovlev, which became public, concerned exclusively real estate. Back in 2008, after the successful IPO of Uralkali, Rybolovlev acquired the mansion of American billionaire Donald Trump in Palm Beach. The amount of the transaction (about $100 million) set a record in the Florida real estate market. And Trump himself called this price the highest ever paid for a detached house.

The Rybolovlev family set a new record in 2011, when the businessman’s daughter Ekaterina became the owner of a penthouse in Manhattan. He cost her $ 88 million (at that time it was the most expensive deal in New York). Rybolovlev prefers to make purchases for his daughters since his wife Elena filed for divorce in 2008 (the divorce proceedings continue, the businessman’s wife claims a significant part of his fortune). Rybolovlev also has a villa in Monaco. In Russia, as a result of a deal with Kerimov, he received the Voentorg building and apartments in the Moscow Hotel.

Investing in luxury real estate is not a quick speculative operation, Andrey Zakrevskiy, First Vice President of the consulting company Knight Frank, comments that it will not be possible to sell it twice as much in a year. But a portfolio of high-quality real estate can be used in business, for example, as collateral to attract credit funds.

Wealthy people around the world believe in the potential of investing in real estate. The latest report from Knight Frank and Citi Private Bank shows that in 2012, in the portfolio of businessmen owning liquid assets worth more than $25 million, investments in real estate account for the largest share (23%), followed by investments in securities (21% each). – in stocks and bonds) and cash (15%).

In Russia, a real boom in real estate abroad happened in the pre-election year of 2011: then, according to the Central Bank, Russian individuals and legal entities withdrew about $12 billion from the country for these purposes (twice as much as in 2007 and 2008) . London is still the leader in their preferences.

In the US, the real estate market is just beginning to recover from a deep crisis.
