You can get free pallets (or very cheap) from:

Craigslist or Facebook’s Marketplace. A lot of the time people just put them on the curb for free for you to pick up.
Local businesses, distribution centers and stores (e.g Garden and Hardware Stores, Home Improvement Stores). You will see them sitting out back of stores, but always ask the manager before you take them because they could be rented pallets and need to be returned.
New Businesses – If you know a new business is opening in your area, that is a great time to find a lot of pallets too.

If you can’t find any free wood pallets, you can buy them for under $10 (typically in the $5-$7 range, depending on the type and size.

The great-grandfather of the modern pallet was skid (skid) , used in American factories in the early twentieth century. Overall pallet dimensions

Different countries have their own requirements for the dimensions of manufactured pallets.

USA uses pallet sizes 1016×1219 mm and 1219×1219 mm .
China, Japan, Australia uses pallets with dimensions 1100×1100 mm .
In Europe, almost the same pallet size 9 is used0009 800×1200 mm .
In Finland, a Finnish pallet (FIN-pallet) with dimensions 1000×1200 mm is used.

International Organization for Standardization (ISO) defines the requirements for pallets that apply to international shipping. In accordance with them, pallets can be of the following sizes:

14 unusual ideas for using pallets in the country house

Wooden pallets are usually thrown away or burned. However, a solid wooden “lattice” can become the basis for an original design idea or a new piece of furniture. It all depends on your imagination.

At first glance, no one needs old Euro pallets and they are only suitable for making a fire. In fact, they can perfectly fit into landscape design, become its element and, in addition to the aesthetic function, will be of practical use. We will now get acquainted with the most interesting examples of such an unusual “art”.

1. Vertical gardening elements
Vertical gardening is gaining more and more popularity, it allows you to unobtrusively hide the imperfections of the facade and ennoble the green area on the site. The Europallet is an almost ready-made basis for the “green wall”. You can plant plants in it or use it as a stand for small pots. A vertical garden from pallets looks best in a natural way, in other words, the pallet does not need to be painted and treated with complex compositions.

2. Euro pallet furniture
The possibilities of creating light garden furniture from Euro pallets are almost endless. Each product will carry a piece of warmth and vitality of the master, and will also allow you to update the exterior of the site, make it interesting and non-trivial. You can start simple – with dining and coffee tables, as well as coasters for pots. At the next stage, with a little practice, you will be able to assemble full-fledged sofas and armchairs from pallets.

3. Wooden Patio
If you have free access to a dozen used pallets, you can pave a small sitting area with them. Such flooring for an open terrace will require additional work – leveling the site, sealing cracks with boards of suitable size, grinding the surface and impregnating it with anti-rotting agents. But the result will be appropriate – you will have an original “deck” in your country house, where you can comfortably relax.

4. Life hack for storing inventory

This is really a very popular and simple solution, thanks to which rakes, shovels, hoes and choppers stop falling under your feet and blocking the passage. With the help of a pallet, they will always stand at attention and, importantly, it will become more convenient to get them out and put them back.

5. Bright summer bar
Dacha is not only work, but also a pleasant rest, especially when evening comes. Good old garden gatherings sometimes also want to diversify and change their format. If there is not so much free space on the site, then instead of an extensive patio area or tables, you can build a bar counter. Of course, it is better to paint it in bright colors that will be in harmony with the plants in the garden and the facade of the house. Sitting down at such a stand after a busy day in the garden is a pleasure!

6. Hanging swing
A small hanging swing can be set up with one pallet. All that is required is to pass a few strong ropes through the slots and tie them to the base. The “load capacity” of the swing can be adjusted using wide pallets and stronger ropes or metal chains. Also, the euro pallet can be made the basis of a small “amusement park” for children, however, for this you will have to carefully sand the entire surface of the material.

7. Pet house
Coziness is needed not only for people, but also for pets that you take with you outside the city. A small bed for a dog or a protected “place” for a cat can be made from a small pallet. If you cover the house with a blanket and decorate it with your favorite animal toys, it will be difficult to find a more grateful creature on the planet than your pet.

8. Shoe rack
Country shoes are rarely clean, they constantly walk through the beds, go down to the basement, look into the barn and, finally, enter the house. Dirty sneakers or boots usually huddle lonely at the entrance and make it difficult to pass. However, if you arrange them as shown in the photographs, this will help save space and give country shoes, if not quite aesthetic, but at least an original look.

9. Wall panel
If you have a lot of paintings and memorabilia, but you are not going to hang the whole wall with them, you can use the pallet as the basis for the wall panel. By turning the pallet over, you get a ready-made stand and photo frame. It remains only to fix it on the wall and decorate it with your favorite works of art and photography.

10. Small corner
Some summer residents complain that they “do not even have their own corner in the house. ” From 3-4 pallets you can put together a small and comfortable corner for yourself or children. It can be supplemented with accessories such as a bedspread or a towel, and if you put a low table next to it, then all household members will envy such a “paradise”.

11. Ecochandelier
Hanging a magnificent and artsy chandelier in the garden is inappropriate, and ordinary lamps look boring and too “businesslike”. If you have an extra wooden pallet at your disposal, it can be a useful blank from which you will make an ecological style chandelier. A multicolored clothes hanger can be arranged from the wooden pallet.
