Service & Maintenance | Mark Thompson Heating Engineer
We service both Gas and Oil Boilers.
To ensure your boiler is working safely, efficiently and to reduce the risk of breakdown, boiler manufacturers recommend your boiler is serviced every year. What’s more an annual service can save as much as 10-15% off your energy bills.
We service gas fires, gas water heaters and gas wall heaters, oil boliers AND carry out landlord’s gas safety inspections and certification. Mark Thompson Heating Ltd are specialist engineers and Gas Safe registered.
Gas Boiler Service
The following symptoms indicate that your gas boiler probably needs to be serviced:
- An irregular or yellow boiler flame
- Stains or smoke marks appearing on or near the appliance
- Hot water has limited flow or is less hot than it should be
- Boiler refilling and/or overheating frequently
- Boiler fan makes loud noises
- The boiler pilot light goes out repeatedly
- The pressure drops
When your boiler is serviced, your engineer will:
- Clean the:
- Burner/injector(s)
- Pilot/injector
- Flue-ways, including the draught diverter and heat exchanger
- Ignition components (these will also be adjusted)
- Flame supervision components
- Controls (these will also be lubricated)
- Repair:
- Gas leaks
- Check:
- Disturbed gas connections
- Boiler seals and joints
- For obvious signs of damage to the wiring
- Flame supervision device operation
- Open-flued boilers for spillage
- Re-set the:
- Burner operating pressure to that on the data label/plate
Oil Boiler Service
Signs your oil boiler needs servicing:
An oil boiler should produce very few emissions.
Signs that it may need servicing include:
- Black smoke or a build-up of soot – this prevents the boiler from burning oil efficiently
- A yellow or brown staining around or on the boiler
- A pilot light that frequently blows out
- Increased condensation inside windows
- A yellow rather than blue flame (apart from flueless fires)
During an oil boiler service, the engineer will:
- Clean the burner/injector(s)
- Clean the pilot/injector
- Clean the flue-ways, including the draught diverter and heat exchanger
- Clean and adjust the ignition components
- Clean flame supervision components
- Clean, lubricate and adjust controls
- Check all disturbed connections
- Check all boiler seals and joints
- Check there are no obvious signs of damage to the wiring
- Re-set the burner operating pressure to that on the data label/plate
- Test open-flued boilers for spillage
- Re-check the flame supervision device operation
It’s important to keep in mind that only Gas Safe Register approved engineers are qualified to service gas appliances.
