Advice from the Experts to Help You Find the Cheap Apartment that’s Right for You
Of all the factors to consider during the apartment-hunting process, budget tops the list. The key to finding an affordable apartment is balancing your needs with your means. Sounds easier said than done, right? Let the following pieces of advice guide you on your quest for a cheap apartment and set you on your way to an ideal living situation that doesn’t break the bank.
What to Consider When Searching for Cheap Apartments
Before you begin searching, use this formula to set your budget: (monthly income after taxes) * 30%. Landlords use the same formula to determine if an applicant qualifies as a financially reliable tenant. But remember, you’ll also need to cover a few costs upfront, before you even move in. So it’s key to start saving for the deposit, utility set up costs (unless you find an apartment with utilities included), moving supplies, truck rental, etc. in advance. Moving is expensive, but it’s a lot less stressful when you know you still have money in the bank when it’s over.
It’s also important to look beyond just the cost of rent when deciding what you can afford. Think about outside expenditures ranging from your daily commute to groceries and how much you spend going out. Weigh out the pros and cons of having cheaper rent, but don’t forget to factor in your cost of living.
Competition for Cheap Apartment Rentals
Affordable apartments don’t stay vacant very long—so when applying for potential places, go above and beyond to stand out from other applicants. In a market where demand is high and supply is hard to find, making a solid first impression can improve your chances of snagging a cheap apartment rental. Come prepared with pay stubs to verify income and employment, recent tax returns, a credit report, references and a checkbook in case they’re ready to sign you right then and there. There are also other outlets that improve your chances of landing an apartment. Try checking for subsidized housing through the government—those with lower-income jobs can qualify to apply for more affordable rentals.
How to Look for Cheap Apartments
If you’re in the market for a cheap apartment, you must be flexible and open-minded during the process. The most expensive apartments usually fall within a prime location (think – close to bars, public transportation and landmarks)—so you’ll probably need to look at neighborhoods just off the beaten path. You might be surprised to find areas just outside city limits that are still in close vicinity to the action, but far enough away that your rent would be significantly lower. You’ll find lower pricing by staying true to what you need and sacrificing some amenities or settling for less square footage. And keep an eye out for move-in specials such as a discounted rent for signing a longer lease. Additionally, consider splitting a pad with a roommate or two. Often times this results in lower monthly rent, a more spacious apartment and indirectly broadening your social network.
Price-Conscious Renters of Cheap Apartments
Cheap apartment rentals call for renters to be reasonable in every aspect of their decisions. Balance the standards of living and really think about what you want and what you need and what you can afford. These questions will keep you focused in finding a cheap apartment for rent and allow you to live within your means as best as possible.

Visit Ukraine – How much does it cost to rent an apartment in Europe: a comparison of cities
You can support our activities and become an ambassador of Ukraine
HELP
The choice of housing is one of the most important issues that must be resolved before moving to another country. The easiest option is to rent. In this article, we will tell you how much you can rent a house in Europe, ranging from the lowest price range to the highest. In the first quarter of 2022, the average monthly rent for an apartment in 63 European cities is €16.05/sq.m. And this is 3.82% more than in the first quarter of 2021.
Prices between different countries of the European region may differ significantly, depending on the geographical location, effective demand and the standard of living of citizens. In addition, in each city, the cost of rent is influenced by various factors, such as economic and social well-being, popularity of the city among tourists and business, seasonality. Today, the average price of rental housing in the European Union is 885 euros per month.
The most expensive rental housing was recorded in:
• Geneva, Switzerland – from 1,500 euros per month.
• London, UK – from 2200 euros per month
• Paris, France – from 1360 euros per month
• Luxembourg – from 1742 euros per month
• Dublin, Ireland – from 1870 euros per month.
• Amsterdam The Netherlands – from 1740 euros per month.
The cheapest rent for an apartment is noted in:
• Brno, Czech Republic – 250 – 350 euros per month.
• Malaga, Spain – from 390 euros per month.
• Skopje, North Macedonia – 391 euros per month.
• Pristina, Kosovo – 417 euros per month.
• Iasi, Romania – 415 euros per month.
• Brasov, Romania – 490 euros per month.
• Timisoara, Romania – 517 euros per month.
• Lodz, Poland – 616 euros per month.
• Cluj-Napoca, Romania – 734 euros per month.
• Istanbul, Türkiye – 220 euros per month.
• Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina – 283 euros per month.
There are many options in Eastern Europe that offer moderate rents and comfortable living conditions. This is exactly the option when you can talk about value for money. For example, renting an apartment in Prague, Czech Republic, on average, will cost 773 euros, and in Tallinn, Estonia – 622 euros. In the capital of the Slovak Republic, Bratislava, the cost of rent is 700 euros per month near the city center, outside the city 600 euros.
Germany and Poland are also quite popular countries where many people come. Munich is the most expensive city to rent in Germany – 1150 euros per month. And this list can be continued with Leipizg, Cologne and Stuttgart. The average rent for a one-room apartment in Germany: Leipzig – 500 euros per month, Cologne – 750 euros per month, Stuttgart – 850 euros per month. Apartments in this country are often rented unfurnished, which is very inconvenient for those who come, as there are no comfortable conditions for staying and living. As for Poland, the prices in Warsaw are quite high, on average they ask for 400-500 euros per month for a decent one-room apartment. In smaller cities, such as Bydgoszcz, prices are several times cheaper. For the same 500 euros you can rent a 2-room apartment. In the rather popular city of Poznań, prices are slightly higher than in Bydgoszcz. On average, apartment owners ask for 363 – 400 euros per month.
