Frequently Asked Questions for Cheap Old Houses for Sale in Las Vegas, NV
What are the benefits of buying a cheap old house?
Older homes have an undeniable air of nostalgia, charm, and character about them that you wont find in a new build plus features like hardwood floors and crown moldings – they just dont make ’em like that anymore.
Old homes are clearly sturdy and well-constructed – if they werent, they wouldnt still be standing – but they can require a lot of work and investment in order to make them comfortably livable. However, on average, older homes are cheaper than new ones, so you would be saving some money and therefore be able to invest more.
Other benefits of older homes: they can have larger lot size, they can come with mature grounds, gardens, and trees, and oftentimes, they will be located in established areas and neighborhoods.

Abandoned New York home for sale with cheap list price of just $2,800
A standalone home in New York State is for sale for less than the price of a beat-up second hand car. Listed by the City of Syracuse after being left abandoned for years, the fixer upper’s asking price is sure to rattle any Australian – just $2,800 (US$2,000).
A difficult scenario for any New South Wales or Victorian resident to fathom, the home was originally listed early last year for $9,000 by the Greater Syracuse Land Bank, but had no offers. They’ve since slashed the price to just $2,800, according to NY Post.
The old NY state home had a beautiful past, filled with happy family memories. (Realtor)There are features worth keeping and restoring, including hardwood floors, woodwork and original leadlight windows. (Realtor)
The three-bed, single-bath home built in 1910 obviously needs some love. The bank estimates renovation costs to be $136,000 (US$97,000) due to fire and water damage, which is the reason behind the low price and why buyers are hesitant to snap the property up.
However, a search of recent sold listings reveals that three-bed, one-bath properties in Syracuse fetch north of $140,000 (US$100,000). Add a second bathroom to the reno and that price jumps north of $210,000 (US$150,000). Still seems like quite the bargain.

In a heartwarming twist, potential buyers will also have the peace of mind that the home was filled with happy family memories.
When the sale listing went up, previous owner Shirley Hojnacki contacted the land bank to let them know her family had lived there from the 1950s to the 1970s.
She shared old photos, which were uploaded to the Instagram @SyracuseHistory and shared as a video.
It seems there is no sad or tragic reason as to why the home was abandoned. In fact, it’s not uncommon for properties to have been sold then left without upkeep for many years. The city will usually take ownership of homes that become tax delinquent.
Therefore, the sale price for 103 Glahn Ave isn’t unique. It seems that Syracuse and other areas of NY State have become hotbeds for abandoned homes selling for ridiculously cheap. There’s even a hashtag dedicated to the dilapidated older-style homes: #cheapoldhousesny.
The Greater Syracuse Land Bank is also currently selling this four-bed, two-bath home for $12,500 (US$9,000) and a large six-bed, three-bath home for just $7,000 (US$5,000).
There’s even a four-bed, 1.5-bath home for an insanely cheap $1,400 (US$1,000), with renovation estimates at $165,000 (US$117,000). They’ll even throw in the home next door for $11,000 (US$8,000).
But if you were hoping to make a cheap land grab in New York State, you might be out of luck. The land bank is prioritising buyers who are Syracuse locals and contractors. They’ll often put conditions on the sale that buyers must abide by, such as being an owner-occupier.

Who needs the abandoned palaces of the Crimea
Palaces, dachas, villas – there are dozens of such objects representing a whole layer of different cultures and eras in Crimea. But only a few fall under the state program for restoration and restoration. First of all, it is lucky for the largest cultural monuments, which are the hallmarks of the peninsula. Nevertheless, even they have been waiting in the wings for years. What can we say about the old mansions standing in almost every Crimean city. They are not in guidebooks, and guides often lead tour groups past. And only bloggers talk about the former beauty of the now dilapidated, but once flourishing buildings of the 18th-19th centuries.
Could be museums
One of these abandoned mansions is located in the central part of Yalta. The Palace of Count Mordvinov, built in 1903 according to the design of the famous engineer and architect from St. Petersburg Fyodor Nagel , occupies an area of just over 2 thousand square meters. Built in the style of the Italian Renaissance, with many columns, arches and cornices made of marble, the palace consisted of 79 rooms, decorated with special luxury. The mansion was surrounded by no less luxurious park. Ancient plane trees and pine trees, as well as a palm alley, have been preserved here to this day.

The palace could become a museum, but instead it is another “abandoned” with the territory that has fallen into disrepair. In 2010, the Yalta authorities put the estate up for sale for a whopping $20 million, but no buyers were found.
Another attraction of Yalta with a sad fate is the Ovchinnikov House, built in the form of a medieval castle in 1901–1903. After nationalization in 1922, the sanatorium “Red Pilot” was located here, and during the Great Patriotic War – the Gestapo. Today, the building is in a deplorable state – glass is broken in the windows, inscriptions cover the walls, traces of a fire are visible.
Illiquid “abandons”
In an attempt to breathe new life into such “monuments”, the authorities even tried to sell them for a symbolic price. The former head of the administration of Evpatoria Andrey Filonov at one time initiated a bill on leasing problematic objects for one ruble a year. The new owners were only required to take care of the safety of the buildings and maintain their historical appearance. But either because of restrictions on commercial use, or for other reasons, many mansions never became in demand. The official himself did not want to comment on his initiative. In a conversation with Oktagon.Krym, he explained his refusal by the fact that he had not been on the agenda for a long time.
The state is interested in preserving old mansions, while they must bring him profit. The most difficult thing is to attract investors in remote areas with low traffic and lack of tourist flow, the chairman of the Crimean State Council Committee on Culture and Cultural Heritage Protection Nikolai Volkov is sure.
“Preservation comes first. You can not build nearby or do something that can harm the object.
Of course, time is inexorable, and buildings have to be restored. But without changes, restoring the lost parts from the archives.
Nikolai Volkov
Chairman of the Crimean State Council Committee on Culture and Cultural Heritage Protection
– These are very complex projects in order to attract tourists there and make the objects financially attractive. These are cities such as Dzhankoy, which are far from a large traffic flow. Perhaps, when an atmosphere is created around them, to which business reacts, some funds will be attracted, Volkov reflects.
History in private hands
A positive example of the transfer of a historic building to private hands is the well-known Oreanda Hotel on the southern coast of Crimea, which, many years later, is still operating. It was built on the Yalta embankment in 1907 by a retired general of the hussar regiment Alexander Witmer . From the very beginning the hotel was famous for impeccable provisions, expensive furniture and cleanliness. Its lobbies always smelled of freshly ground coffee, and Aivazovsky and Shishkin . Later, “Oreanda” became a closed-type rest house of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR and a sanatorium of the NKVD. And at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the hotel housed a military hospital.

– We have many such examples when historical buildings are in the hands of private companies. Even the building of an old pizzeria in Simferopol or shops in the city center. There are private-public facilities. Just don’t think that “we’ll come, put up an umbrella and sell ice cream.” This will not happen. Only if there is a good project, – Nikolai Volkov emphasizes.
Such a partnership is beneficial primarily to city administrations – this is both additional jobs and advertising of settlements. But the system works poorly – the lack of interest of officials makes itself felt.
Two hundred objects in two years
At the same time, the list of cultural heritage sites is replenished every year. The Ministry of Culture of the republic reports that over the past two years, more than 200 different monuments have been included in the list, including in Yalta.
– A number of objects were registered, such as the Vorontsovsky wine cellar with the Massandra tasting complex, the Meller-Zakomelsky profitable house, the Shmigelsky manor house “Chair-Lar”, the Lansere villa “Chrysolite”, the “Panea” dacha of Sabashnikova, the Kharaks Palace and others,” the press service of the Republican Ministry of Culture tells Oktagon.Krym.

This year, the department plans to conclude a contract for the repair and restoration of the Schlee House in Simferopol, the creation of a respected German family that built almost half of the city. The architectural heritage of the late XIX – early XX century is located on Odessa street. The fate of the rest of the objects has not yet been announced.
A unique abandoned mansion in Florida worth more than $2 million
Have you ever thought about the fact that houses can look like people? And they have difficult fates. At first, cheerful voices and children’s laughter sound in the new, luxurious mansions. But the walls grow old along with their owners. And, as a result, old houses often live out their lives lonely and abandoned.
One of these houses with an amazing history is located in a small American town called Howey Hills, Florida. Today its cost reaches 2 million dollars.

Howie wanted to make the grand home his business residence. That is why he arranged a truly grand celebration in 1927 dedicated to the opening of a new house. The perspicacious politician invited all the inhabitants of the city to the celebration. And there were more than 15,000 guests.

The townspeople enjoyed the New York City Symphony and wondered how much the residence cost the owner to build. We’ll let you in on a secret: Howie spent $250,000. At the beginning of the last century, this was an incredible amount.

Jack Zona wanted to tell everyone the amazing story of this mansion. In the house, he arranged a museum and led tours here. He expected to receive state support, because the unique building has long been a cultural heritage. But this never happened.

Soon Jack Zona died and there was no one to look after the house. Once a wonderful mansion, today it is empty and abandoned. The police make sure that the vandals do not completely destroy it. But most often, law enforcement officers detain curious photographers who seek to capture the remnants of its former splendor.

Now the estate is waiting for a new owner, it is for sale. For a dilapidated estate, the buyer will have to pay at least $ 2 million at once. And a lot of money will need to be spent on its restoration.
